Its great to stay in the genova and during the day travel to different beaches and places in liguria. the continental hotel offeres a good price for its comfortable rooms and is located at the train station. the breakfast was delicious and the staff was enjoying its work. in the escalator i felt like being catapulted back in time and i could imagine meeting humphrey bogart, giving the hotel a special touch :)

After a long drive to Genova we arrived at the hotel at 9:30 pm to find that our two rooms where booked on separate floors. They changed them and gave us two rooms next to each other (since we have three young children we needed the proximity). I was not offered help help with our suitcases in spite of being alone (and struggling with the bags) while I also had our three children with me. The worst part was: After realizing that the A/C was turning off, we asked for help at the front desk who sent someone. The person pretended to fix things and left. We realized that it was still not working (on both rooms) after our children were fast asleep and we were unable to have people come in the room and try to fix it. I realized that I was getting up from bed every 5 minutes to turn the A/C back on, that was until 1:30 AM. I later woke up from the heat at 4 AM to start the dance again of turing it on every 5 minutes. It was probably the WORST night of my life. I was exhausted from the long drive and I couldn't rest well, in spite of needing it since we were planning on continuing the drive the next day. We believe that the hotel staff knew that the A/C didn't work but checked us in there anyway. That certainly was NOT a 4 star hotel. Thank you for asking for input.

This was one of the best hotels we had stayed in in all of Italy. Everything was perfect, including the price. Beautiful old "Grand Tour" hotel that I would highly recommend to family or friends. So convenient, as it was directly across the street from the train station (not normally a good or safe location for European hotels, but this was not a problem for Genoa). One of our favorite experiences! Thank you, Hotel Continental Genova!

We stayed one night at the Hotel Continental Genova in mid October 2010. This is an older, elegant hotel that has been very well maintained. It couldn't be more centrally located to the Piazza Principe train station. It's literally across the street. The breakfast buffett was great. The front desk was very helpful and was fluent in English. The rooms were well equipped, clean, and very nice. Regarding the proximity of the location to tourist areas, we had a friend drive us to the main marina area where many of the more historic buildings were. I'm not sure you could easily walk there from the hotel. I'd definitely go back.

I am a woman and I was traveling alone. The hotel itself is very nice but it did not seem like a safe area for me to be walking around at night (there were some streets that I was a little nervous during the day!) The hotel could only recommend one restaurant and it was just OK. I think it was really the only one that was close enough for me to walk to at night. I wouldn't stay here again. The employees were really wonderful and the hotel was just fine, but I did not like the location.

While I booked the Hotel Continental, when I arrived I found a note on the door to go next door to their "sister" hotel Grand Hotel Savoya. The Continental was undergoing renovation. At first I was upset, but when I arrived at the Savoya and realized that it was a 5 star hotel, I was much happier. The hotel was truly beautiful. Just a couple of comments... 1) the first room we were given was taken. That should not have happened. 2) While the location was right near the train station (just what I wanted), if I ever stay in Genoa again, there are areas that I would prefer over this one. It didn't feel very safe. Overall, a very good stay though.

We stayed five days in Genova. The hotel was wonderful--very nice rooms, well appointed, spacious bathroom, and tasteful common areas. The breakfasts were the best of any hotel we've found in our trips to Italy. The location is perfect--easy walking to all the major museums and points of tourist interests. The staff were helpful, professional, and attentive to any requests.

From when I booked to when I stayed the hotel must have changed names, so I had a lot of difficulty finding the hotel, as I was driving and trying to see the name, so I was extremely frustrated from the outset. Parking is not on site, but up a steep street around a corner, so not so good for older travellers to lug bags etc, and also not easy to find if driving. If travelling by bus then it is extremely near to the station. Roller shutters controlled the noise fairly well. The hotel itself was OK, but I was pretty stessed from an hour and a half negotiating Genoa traffic trying to find it and probably did not appreciate it fairly.

Positives: the room was clean, adequate size for one or two people, staff was very friendly and helpful, breakfast was fantastic (everything you could imagine), hotel's location was close to downtown and train station, hotel's appearance was overall great. I would definitely return. Negatives: construction around the hotel (noise, some dust), and minor issues upon arrival, all timely (by Italian standards) resolved by staff (my room had been "given away" since I arrived at 10:00 PM, but I was "upgraded" to the next door 5 star hotel Savoy for the same price; there, the room key, the TV and air conditioning did not work proper initiallly, but were fixed by the satff)

Though this was just a stop over for us, we were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. Just across from the train station we didn't have to drag our luggage far. The staff were very welcoming. A visit to the old port and the aquarium, both near by, was a pleasant way to spend the next morning.

The location near the train station was perfect for us, seeing we arrived from Firenze in the afternoon. The woman at the desk on the day we checked was friendly and extremely helpful. She provided us with a map of the area, sites and suggestions for transportation. The room was lovely with a beautiful view of the train station. It was easy to get a taxi at 5 in the morning for the short ride to the airport. Dinner at their restaurant was very nice. A wonderful hotel for travelers.

The number of TV channels was limited and it was necessary to pay to rent movies. However the rental ordering system in our room was broken. An hour before the end of our four day stay, somebody was sent in to repair this. The dining room was understaffed at breakfast and depressingly empty at dinner. The proximity to the railroad station and Palazzo Reale is wonderful, but there aren't many restaurants nearby. Most of the closest ones are in the old town on the hill down toward the water, and these streets are dark and feel a bit threatening late at night. Still, it is a short walk to other major tourist destinations. The building itself is charming and the staff capable and friendly.

We staid two nights in the hotel.First night was awful because of noise in the street ( works in progress during night) Staff has been kind enough to move us in a quieter room for the second night. Considering category of hotel, it should plan for investing in a new elevator!

Pretty good option for the railpass holiday that we were on... try to get a room at the back. We were at the front and the usual trade off between oxygen and noise was brought into play. Decent location for a walkabout....didn't try breakfast. I feel comfortable recommending this hotel at the price that we paid.

Amenities in bath room and room are nice for me but some dust are in ashtray and before the mirror. Employees who clean rooms should care of them. The room I stayed is just front of the road, I woke up twice during the night. I satisfied variety of breakfast and I could leave my big suit case after check out.

Street was closed, under construction - hotel entry almost undiscernable. No doorman when I arrived. In area of few restaurants for dinner. Construction may have been a positive factor for a very quiet room for a city hotel. Generous size room. Pleasant restaurant. No public lounge space. Would stay again for good access to train, clean, quiet, nice room, and good service. (got a cab at 4 am)

Stayed for two days in Savoia Genova, 3 adults and 3 children (in two rooms). Hotel is very clean and furnishings of a high quality, the bathroom facilities are also of the best and spacious I have experienced in Italy. The breakfast is also one of the best with an extremely wide variety. Suitable for a family with 1 or 2 children. The only down side was the building operations next door. I would definitely recommend the hotel to visitors in Genova, as the hotel is quite conveniently located in one of the better areas.

The hotel was beautiful in the classic tradition of European hotels. The room was very quiet and nicely appointed including the marble bath. Francesco went above and beyond to help us recover an internet receipt we needed in order to board a ferry. The hotel is located directly across the square from the train station at which we arrived and it was a short cab ride to the port to catch the ferry when leaving. The hotel is an elegant, convenient place to stay when visiting the city. If you are traveling from Italy to Spain, use the overnight ferry service which, with a cabin, cost us 254 Euros versus about 3,000 to rent a car and fly. Genova is a city I would like to visit again and I will stay at the Savoia. We especially liked the elevator which is a must see.

It was a comfortable stay. My sleeping room & bathroom(with bath tub) are spacious, and I like the old fashioned style of the building and decor. Absolutely "excellent" for Quality vs.Price. Only thing if I think it may be negative is location. It's very convenient to the station(Principe), but a bit far from center of the city. Other than that, staff are efficiently helpful, and not overly friendly. Recommendable for a short stay. If I could get similar room rate again, I would like to stay there again.

The location of the hotel is excellent - perfect if you want to stay somewhere that is not too expensive and within easy reach of exploring Genova. However, the map / directions on the website are terrible; fortunately, though the signs around Genova are very clear. The welcoming was poor - the receptionist was unprofessional, a real misery and very unfriendly. The barman, however, was really professional and very charismatic. The rooms were average - perfectly clean and nicely decorated, although fairly small - and you need to get your hiking boots on, the distance it took to get to your room from the reception!
