We were very comfortable at the Astoria, and found the welcome, and the advice and assistance at Reception particularly good for a city hotel, which can often be impersonal, but not at the Astora. Breakfast is only moderate. Would definitely stay there again.

The only problem was with the advertised free WIFI in the room, which was intermittent, and when the staff were told this they said it was our laptop. This was not the case at all.

Excellent breakfast. The bunker bed ment for children was not big enoug for our teenagers so I slept there. The hotel is near the city center. The port area is beautiful.

The hotel is over rated. 75e without breakfast and parking is too much. I made a mistake coming in this hotel. They even charge the internet.

Our main problem was finding the hotel. It is not as near to the railway station, which is Brignole not Principe, as we had been led to believe and nobody was able to help us find it until we enquired in Hotel Moderno Verdi which is much nearer. We had to leave too early to try the breakfast. There were some problems opening the windows.

I would make the hotel a bit more modern especially as concerns the rooms, the lift, the doors.

I was in Genova for holidays. And I Discovered a nice and very interesting city. Just a little remark of the city and Hotel: For the city: be carefull about cleanliness and for the Hotel: a poor amability of breakfast's employeed.

Hotel Astoria is a very charming place, situated a footstep away from Brignole Station and not far from the city centre. The hotel staff is very welcoming, bilingual and competent. Rooms are bright and bathrooms are spatious, the public area is very nice and the old-style elevator is a lot of fun. Breakfast is a good and varied all-you-can-eat buffet. Rates might be a bit expensive for the normal traveler, especially in singles (we stayed in a triple, which are quite affordable and still very nice), but the place is certainly worth it. Overall, I can highly recommend this place! And what a city...!! :-)

This is a difficult one to mark as our 1st night room 103 was dreadful(especially for 120 euros),more like a hostel and the traffic noise terrible. We obviously complained and the next night we were given one of our best room (403) ever, huge gorgeous decoration and no noise at all with a bathroom to die for. So overall we enjoyed our stay but the breakfasts were nothing to speak home about. It is 300 yards from the station NOT 100 as stated.

One of the reasons we booked this hotel was to have secure parking. When we arrived we were told there was no parking, we pointed out to the very nice young girl on reception that this was the reason we had chosen this particular hotel, she got on the phone and found us a space in their car park, The hotel recommended a restaurant which had some sort of connection, there was not a lot of choice but the meal was adequate. The surrounding area was a bit messy as they are putting some sort of railway extension in and the work was right outside the front of the hotel, but we heard no noise. Lovely old fashioned lift which unfortunately got stuck on the top floor and there was no one on hand to fix the door,my husband ended up sorting it out, took him two minutes. Windows were a bit old and coulld have been dangerous if a young child climbed up at them

The hotel is not as close to the train station as advertised (at least 100 metres uphill). The furnishing in the room was not up to a 4 star standard. On the other hand the room was very clean, just like the bathroom. Breakfast was included and quite rich (lasted us through lunchtime). Staff was nice enough, they allowed us to leave our bags with them way after check out time which was really helpful since our ship was at ten in the evening.

Nice typical italian hotel (very nice elevator). Spacious room for 4 (2 adults + 2 children : 8 and 10). A bit noisy (street and train) but acceptable in vacation. Nice breakfast.

To be honest I was a bit worried about the location I had chosen. I have been to Milan twice using Venere.com and me an my mates decided to come here for a change. It was fantastic,it had everything. We found some nice bars and restuarants. The Astoria was well presented, clean , friendly and would definatley recomend this place to people. Im not certain that the price I was qouted was the price we paid that was my only issue but it only worked out slightly more expensive.

Travelling as a family of 4 we were so happy to have found this wonderful accommodation. Everything in the room - very spacious and beautiful bathroom - fantastic breakfast - we only wish we had stayed longer as it is also a beautiful city.

The location was excellent for our needs although not one of the more picturesque areas of Genoa. The shower was just plain silly as there was very little water pressure. Otherwise, the rooms were spacious and warm, the beds very comfortable.

Lovely old hotel with 'old world' feel about it specially the old wooden lift. Staff were very helpful and friendly and the hotel was very clean. Only let down was that it is slightly off the beaten track.

1. i asked for a room with a double bed and was given a twin bed room. THis was wrong. I specifically selected "double" rather han "twin" on the website. 2. At breakfast, we were rudely asked to leave the restaurant by a member of staff because it was tem minutes past ten! This was amazingly rude and unacceptable given the price paid. We will not return in view of the above complains

Very nice hotel, in the middle of the center just 3 minute walk away from the trainstation. The antique style of the hotel is very nice, especially the old iron elevator. The stuff was very friendly, i just can recommend this hotel.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Astoria. Our triple room was big, had airconditioning and a minibar, and a wonderful ceiling! We also liked the old-fashioned lift. The staff was helpful and the breakfast generous, with meats and cheeses, pastries and fruit. The hotel is a five-minute walk from the Genoa Brignole station (a main stop) and a ten-minute to the historical centre. We would certainly use the Astoria again!

Very large and comfortable rooms. The pictures are a bit nicer than the reality, though the hotel was still attractive. The public areas were being worked on while we were there (June 2003), so by now they may be nicer. Near the train station, which is convenient, but noisy. The hotel said that they did NOT have parking; we were directed to a lot by the train station, which was euro15/night. Parking on the street is permitted, but impossibly crowded.

We booked a quadruple room (junior suite ) in the Astoria as we have 2 young children and prefer to have them nearby. The junior suite had a separate adjoining room for the kids. The rooms were spacious and elegant, silk wall covering and heavy brocade curtains, a large bathroom, all old fashioned and very European. We all enjoyed the wrought iron elevator and the spacious landings. All in all a welcome change from the blandness and cramped conditions of "international" style hotels.
