The Agnello d'Oro is a lovely hotel located in an ancient and picturesque alley in the historic center of Genoa. The construction of Vico delle Monachette, where the property is located, dates back to 1580 and originally hosted the convent of the Teresiane Scalze.

The building still preserves the structure of the ancient convent, with the original large windows that look onto the courtyard and a section of external frame of 5 feet (1.5 meters). The original construction was modified by the noble lady Maddalena Centuriona in 1840, to create a school that remained open until 1849.

Today, fully refurbished, the property still feels like an old inn, but with pleasant and luminous rooms and modern furnishings. From the windows in the attic, guests can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of the historic center and ancient port.

The tile floors in the room were not clean and the bed was very uncomfortable. The breakfast was very good, the location (5 Min walk from the train station was excellent) If I was looking for location, this would be a good selection. Were we staying for more than 2 nights, I would have changed to a larger room with a better bed.

They tried to accommodate me as I got their early and had to go to a job interview. The room had thin walls and was very small. The kind of room where you can sit on the edge of the bed and pee into the toilet. Really small. Like walk sideways across the front of the bed. The room could use some paint.I don't think the lady who owns it liked me. She was kinda surly.

As a family of four looking for a city centre hotel in Genoa with a separate bedroom for the children we were delighted to find the Agnello d'Oro. The location couldn't be more central (Palazzo Reale 3min walk, Aquarium 10min) with secure parking just outside the front door and buses within 100m. The description "family room" is much abused on websites but our room was excellent. Having been converted from a monastery this family run hotel has lots of interesting nooks and crannies with vaulted ceilings so no two rooms are the same. Our room on the first floor had two bathrooms and separate bedrooms. Being in the narrow streets of the old town there are no views except from the fabulous roof terrace. In summary the Agnello d'Oro is a small, friendly and charming (nearly eccentric) place with an unbeatable location in a great city. On our last day we slept so well we missed breakfast by hours but the staff reopened the breakfast room specially just for us, you can't beat that!!!

Hotel has quite met my expectations- near the Principal train station, quiet, small. The continental breakfast- adequate, in spacious room (pleasant surprise after London:)).Competent and friendly staff. The only complaint- the only window in my room was high up and faced the inner yard, so practically only artificial light all day long. The water in the shower took its time to get warm too.

The hotel was conveniently located near the Principe train station. Very easy to find. Our room has a great view of the harbor. However, the hotel has the feel of the 90s and badly needs an update. Old carpet. Old fashion shower. Insuffiently hot water. The wifi is available only in one little room near the lobby. Limited selection of restaurants nearby. One thing of note is that the Genoa metro shuts down short after 9 pm. However, it is not that far to walk to the Piazza delle Erbe where the nightlife is. There are buses too.

We stayed for 2 days- definitely too short a time to visit beautiful and interesting Genova. The view over all of Genova's old harbour from our balcony was stunning. Parking in the hotel's private parking basement is an unexpected convenience at only 10€. We will love to return to the city and definitely stay at Agnello d'oro again.

Comfortable hotel in central location only a few minutes walk from the harbour. The staff spoke English well and they were friendly and helpful. The air con didn't work in one room and the receptionist couldn't do much about it however after we came back from dinner they'd put a fan in the room - good customer service! The rooms were quite spacious and vary in levels of modern decor, the style of bathrooms also varied. Very little noise from the street and the breakfast choice was ample. The only thing I would say is that the rooms needed a more thorough clean. For a 3 star hotel it was good value for money.

Hotel Agnello was better than expected. A Boat Fair was on that weekend and although she was very busy, the receptionist took time to give us tips to move around n recommended a nice restaurant for dinner. Location fantastic for people like us who were there in transit only, spacious rooms for a triple. Would recommend to anyone who needs stopover in Genoa or stay there again myself. The staff was most helpful, e.g., providing very detailed maps, making several dinner and transportation recommendations, and finally for arranging for a very early taxi to the airport without added charges. Breakfast was also excellent. Since we forgot to return the hotel key during the wee hours of the morning when we left, the staff also made provisions to pick up the key at the airport.

The hotel was difficult to find because it is on a small one way side street. This area was difficult to access so you had to drive from the harbour and come up from the back end as it was all one way. Although we felt safe in the hotel, we did not feel safe in the area walking to the harbour. We would not recommend this area of Genoa as a vacation spot for a family. The people at the hotel were friendly and helpful.

Agnello d'Oro is a charming accomodation in the heart of swarming old Genova - a short walk away from its giant port - equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The breakfast haunts you with its tastiness and the view from an upper floor window can take your breath away - if not with the harbour vista, then with the quite uncurbed height behind the low and hardly existing windowsill. Note that the parking has a height limit of 1,9 m (but parking in the street seems to be also a secure alternative under the façade of the carabinieri headquarters, provided that you ask the hotel receptionist for a special form confirming your stay to put behind your windscreen).

HORRIBLE SERVICE, HORRIBLE BUSINESS! Long story short - I phoned to cancel my reservation as Venere said to do if I was canceling up to the day before the night of stay. I was told they would cancel my reservation without charge due to my circumstance (emergency and had to leave the country early), but what pops up on my credit card? A nights stay at this hotel. After writing a letter and phoning the hotel manager I was told - sorry, tough luck; and now I am paying for their incompetent employees mistake of not writing the cancellation down in the books. HORRIBLE BUSINESS PRACTICE!

My wife and I were happy with the accomodations. We were on the 4th floor but they have an elevator which most hotels do not have in Italy. The staff was very accomodating and helpful. The rooms had a fridge which was supplied with bottled water daily. We had to check out at 5:00 am on our last day in Genoa and to our pleasant surprise the front desk clerk had fresh coffee waiting for us at the front lobby as well as bottled water and he offered us to have continental breakfast even though it does not usually start till 7:30 am. Also the continental breakfast at this hotel was the best we had on the entire trip to Italy. We did not like the location of the hotel in the small alleyway but it is a short walk to it and it is well lit at night. We would recommend this hotel.

If you are on a backpacker budget and want a cheap hotel near the station, then this is fine. However, I would not recommend it and I would not go back. The hotel is on a narrow back street (and did not feel very safe at night)near the station (also not v. safe). The room and bathroom did not appear to have been decorated since c. 1960. There was building work going on next door from early in the morning. In summary, you could't get a good night sleep and would not want to stay in the room a minute longer than necessary.

Overpriced for this level of property. Extremely hard to find - this street does not appear on maps. It's actually nearby the station but if you come by car like we did you may spend an hour driving through oneway streets of Genova trying to find it. The building is really old - it smells like mold in corridors although efforts are made to deodorize. In the morning you find yourself in the middle of construction site - the building just next to the hotel is being reconstructed (as of June 2004). Breakfast was very good and personnel nice and friendly. Prepare to add 11 Euro for parking to the price if you need one.

A convenient hotel for a short stay in Genoa, with helpful staff and a good breakfast. Well situated close to the main station but watch out for the public sector strikes which can get in the way when using the buses! I would go back there again although probably after all the building work has been finished relating to the European Capital of Culture which Genoa has been awarded for 2004.

When we travel Europe, we like to get the feel of the old world and avoid the modern boxy hotels. This had the charm of a 250 year old monastery and all the modern conveniences of a Holiday Inn. We were delighted. In fact, the room was the largest of any of the places we stayed in.

This hotel is ok to stay for one or two nights in Genua. But the weekendrate of 90 €uro is very high, so i think 70 €uro would be enough.

A somewhat Spartan but immaculately clean property. The staff were very helpful. The location in the city is not very desirable but it is close to the main train station and on a main bus route which connects to all locations in minutes. Overall, this property provides excellent value despite some obvious shortcomings.

A basic but good city centre hotel, very good for the railway station.

The Hotel is medium to lower class. But we had the best room with a good view over the roofs of the harbour quarter and the harbour itself. This was very nice. If we would have had another room on a lower floor or towards the alley, we might not havbe been as content.

Hotel not in the best area of Genova - altho convenient for transport - but we had a panoramic view from the room, which was spacious. Breakfast limited and member of staff on duty not very cheerful! Public rooms not inspiring.
