Hotel Moderne - Geneva

While the location, 2 short blocks from the main train station (Cornavin) was excellent, there was some issues. The rooms are small (by American standards, maybe typical for Europe). My room had a carpet which looked rather old and dingy. The hot water temperature was very high in the evenings, but the hot water ran out a few of the mornings (around 8AM) as everyone was showering. The breakfast was good but not stellar, a basic European "continental" breakfast. Overall, the rate was excellent for a decent hotel in a very convienient location.

Small simple room, clean but noisy, when windows closed, it' s some hot. There is only a fan in room. Some problems with bathroom, when we take shower, water is here and there on floor all wet. Reception is not so friendly, give us wrong tips for parking fee. No park place but just public place. Free in sunday. Very Good location, 8min walk to the lake and 5min to railway station. A lot of restraunts and bars in surrounding. Good breakfast.

The room overlooks a street with a havy traffic all aver the night, impossible to sleep. Decor and equipments are very outdated but clean.

Centrally located and reasonnably priced, but noisy due to heavy traffic in the nearby street. You can't have it all. Very convenient if you reach Geneva by train (3 minutes from Cornavin Station).

Pretty expensive, but it's in the very center of the city... with the disadvantage of noisy traffic late in the evening and early in the morning.

Excellent location. The staff at the front desk on day shift (before 9 or 10pm) was nice but the staff at night shift (after 10pm) was less helpful. The room was dirty and only one light in the room was working. The wall and floor were very dirty. Breakfast was very good.

Very good located, only two streets from the main train station. Breakfast excellent with different types of food, sweet and salty. I chose this hotel for my boyfriend and me, and we loved the stay. The reception staff answers to all your questions and the even recommended us a good swiss typical restaurant that was really good. I will definately come back to this hotel.

This location gives you exactly what you paid for. It is not the 3-star for sure. There was no hairdryer - not a problem for me - I always have my own. Furniture is what you call old-fashion. That was not an air-condition in the room - so if you go in a hot season - be aware. The heating was exellent :-) Ideal for one-two nights stay if you only need the place to sleep and have a shower. Breakfast is really good - fresh bread, coffee, cheese, yougurt, fruit salat etc. Ideally located - just 5 mins to get from railway station. Also very close to the lake. Tourist office is just around the coner. They provide free ticktes for public transport and boats.

The hotel location is good, near the station and some of the landmarks. The staff was helpful. The room was noisy due to some construction in the surrounding area. The breakfast was also good. Good if you are on a budget.

The room was not big but comfortable. The staff was very polite and helpful. Good location. There was very hot in the room. The parking was very expensive: 30 EUR for several hours.

Good relationship between price/quality. Good surrounding (close to city centre and railway station). There was no air-conditioner in my room, so the hotel not quite suitable for hot days.

The location is perfect, very close to train station and the cable to Mont Blanc. Facilities available in the room are perfect. The staff is professional and considerate.

Switzerland is expensive - a known fact - the hotels generally don't correspond in any way to the excellence of the country. Hotel Moderne offers, nevertheless, a decent alternative to the much more costly luxury hotels.

OLD BUILDING BUT IN A VERY CONVENIENT LOCATION . RECEPTIONIST GENTLY BEHAVIOUR UNFORGETABLE .

An ordinary, fairly not too expensive middleware hotel next to the heart of the city.

Althought not as all Modern - this hotel is clean and spacious and has all you need, but it is nothing fancy. Nice and close to train station and restaurants and you can walk anywhere really. Friendly enough staff. Good breakfast.

The hotel is awesome! Rooms are big and very clean, breakfast is good, stuff was more then welcome, price is so low for Geneva. I will definitely stay at this hotel when i'm back! And the location is perfect, 1 minute from the train station and 10 minutes by walk from the old center.

Location superb, if want to a quick hop on Geneva. And close to rail station.

Not very clean, but in a central position, near the station and tourist information office. Staff was very kind and we had free ticktes for public transport and boats. L'hotel n'était pas très propre, mais il se trouve au centre près de la gare et du bureau du tourisme. Le personnel est gentil et on a donné les billets gratuits pour les bateaux.

Large rooms and great location - close to train station and therefore very centrally located. On the other hand, hotel is not precisely new and you can see that re-newing the place has certainly not been a priority of management (bed cover looked like a decade old and we had an armchair in the room that looked as if picked up from a trash container)... place is comfy enough, though far behind from what you'd expect from a 3*** stars accomodation for Geneve... Or maybe that's the reason why the price/quality seems expensive, with Geneve not being precisely heaven for anyone with a limited budget.

The location is very good, but the toilet was very small and the heating in the room was lacking: I had to turn on my hairdryer (that I brought by myself, the room was not provided of it) to warm up the room. In return the price and the location is very good.

I arrived early (at 11 am), and they allowed me to check-in at that time, which I appreciated. The room and bathroom were large by European standards, and they were clean. The room overlooked a side street cafe, which would of course be noisy at night, but it was not so bad as it was a Monday night. The location was good for me -- very close to the train station. They have a room where you can leave your bags if you check out early. I was able to leave my bags there until I was ready to leave at 2pm.

The only problem of this hotel is that it should change name: my room had an old-fashioned charme, with creepy wood, a lot of space, old bu clean and large bathroom. Mice breakfast

Internet use a bit pricey. Staff was very, very helpful and flexible.

When we checked-in, we were sent to a filthy room that hadn't been cleaned. The carpet was covered in stains and the bed in the room was not the double we had booked. We were finally given a different room, but that room smelled, a light burned out as we entered the room, and if you left the bathroom light on longer than 2 minutes, it smelled like plastic was burning.

When I came, the first receptionist was not warm welcome, but when I came back after tour another receptionist was very good and helpful. in general, good location, so so hotel. the map is not so good (not clear road between train station and hotel)

Well, reaaly central location near the lake and the railway station so the price is advantageous for Geneva. But becaause the location is really central, plan some earplugs 'cos it might be noisy.

HOT, and not in a good way. Yes in was a hot day in Geneve, but this was 3am and it was still over 90 in the room and the open window had zero breeze coming through it. The curtain never moved. Of course opening the window let it very loud street noise. All night long horns honking, large delivery trucks, etc. The pillows were amazing. Usually you can flip over the pillow and it's cooler. These were actually hotter. Moderne, is the worst possible name for this place. I would not stay there again if it were free.

The welcoming was very good and the staff evry kind. The hotel is located in a very convenient place close to the train station and the city center within a few minutes walk.

Not a bad Hotel for the price. It is unfortunate that the whole Hotel smells of sigaret smoke.

Good central location although directions could be better - walked too far! Staff were excellent - knew my key number after first night. Breakfast is tiny so you may have to wait for a seat but food was OK. Geneva is pricey so if you can get under 100 CHF it is a bargain.

Considering the name of the hotel is "Moderne" we found it very dated - 1950's. The breakfast room was far too small for the number of guests staying in the hotel. Sound-proofing was non-existent. Despite having our internal door closed, noise from the corridor and the adjacent room woke us up several times during the night.

No tea/ coffee facilities in room, Triple room was twin room with extra bed added, giving very little space to move in the room. Room smelled of smoke, needs redecorating and new bathroom.

Great location, very good base for everything in Genevea!

The hotel was in an ideal location to explore Geneva and close to all the major attractions, as well as transport links. The quality of the rooms and breakfast was extremely good value for money and the staff did everything to make our stay as enjoyable as possible and provided banter as well. A great budget hotel.

It is very well ubicated near the lake and the train station. The personel was really kind and attentive.

Generally pleasant, helpful staff. Excellent location, but very noisy. We had to keep the windows closed--in the midst of a heat spell--and there is no air conditioning. The facilities are ageing, and it doesn't appear too much effort is going into upkeep. Reasonable quality for the price.

Nous avons été dérangé une bonne partie de la nuit par les occupants de la chambre voisine (555) qui étaient très bruyants (c'est peut-être un cas exeptionnel, nous n'avons passé qu'une nuit). Nous avons apprécié d'avoir une cabine de douche plutôt qu'une baignoire.

Are there different categories of rooms: one to let travel agencies take high quality pictures, and the others for the guests. Mine was poorly equipped: no bulbs (or broken ones) in the lamps, questionable cleanliness...

Good hotel, clean and friendly with good breakfast provided. No parking available and public car parks are very expensive. Rooms very hot in summer and lack fans and airconditioning.

I'm sorry, but after my opinion the breakfast and it's room were very poor.

Clean, comfortable, spacious... great breakfast... but hotel clerk came into room with 3 male, potential guests to "show them the room" ~ with only a brief knock... we were grateful we were dressed... very rude to invade privacy before we had checked out.

The Hotel Moderne is a poor hotel in every respect. The room was very noisy, dark and smelled extremely of tobacco. Not to be recommended.

Hotel was adequate. Location good. Rooms are in desperate need of refurbishing and new furniture.

Except the decoration of the room is as old as 70's year. I was satisfied staying at this hotel because the staff was very kind. And the breakfast was very good than I had expected.
