no interaction by staff, building is old fashioned, & reception area lets it down badly, rooms basic but location great

best value in Galway for the midweek individual traveller, with own room and bathroom it cheaper than most hostels. Definitely recommend it and staff could not be more helpful particularly the receptionist and breakfast waiter. Just check if you have access issues as steps outside front door of hotel, there is a lift in hotel

We had a very nice, clean, quiet double room at this property with free garage parking and full breakfast. The cost was reasonable. The staff were competent and pleasant. The property is located in the heart of Galway City and within an easy walk to shops, restaurants, pubs and tourist attractions. We enjoyed a great evening of live traditional music in the hotel's own pub. We would be happy to return to the Western Hotel and to recommend it to family and friends.

Stayed here for a week. Good situation, breakfast was good and lavish. Some remarks : the room was a little bit noisy (I could hear my neighbor's TV and also the traffic down on the street (my room overlooked it)). Room service was late (not before 5:00pm as far as I was concerned) and wasn't provided once. The hot water tap wasn't working properly.

Galway is a place that you didn't know how much you'd enjoy a visit until you're given a reason to do so perhaps for business as I had been given. The city is so easy to get around and there is alot of history in the old town and now pedestrianised section of the main centre. The Western Hotel itself is just a few minutes walk from the Bus & Train station and also very centrally located for making it your base and exploring not only Galway but surrounding towns and counties. My room was spacious, cozy with warm colours and included a big well-lit bathroom providing plenty of hot water. My room was pleasantly quiet and the bonus of staying here was their very good restaurant serving excellent cuisine and breakfast in the morning. If you're looking for a nice get-away destination off the beaten path, do consider Galway and book at the Western Hotel - I hope to do so again, business or not! Thank you Beth and Sinead for your kind assistance during my stay.

Excellent location close to everything you would want to walk to in downtown Galway (ie. 2 blocks to the New Coach Station where tours leave from, 2 blocks from Eyre Square, 4 blocks from the bus and train station etc.). WiFi right in the room. We stayed four nights and the price varied according to the night. Was on the expensive side for other places we stayed on our trip, but was very nice. We stayed in two different rooms since a third person joined us on the last night. The first room was across the street from a pub that broadcast their music outside. Some noise from there until about 11:00 each night. The second room was very quiet. Close to a grocery store (Marks and Spencer) to get fruit and snacks. Breakfast was excellent at the hotel with good variety and service.

Great Accomodation, the staff was very kind and the room (after the change from 106 to 304) was fantastic!

The hotel was nice and friendly and the room was very spacious although the wallpaper was peeling off in places. It was clean and tidy though. The hotel staff were very helpful. Breakfast was quite good with a lot of choice. Fabulous speciality breads but the preserves were awful, really tasteless jam and marmalade which let down the rest of the standard of food. The live music in the bar was pretty awful at times! Overall though we enjoyed our stay and would most likely return again.

Nice hotel just off Eyre Square (but far enough to be away from the pub crowds). Free WLAN in the bar and lobby on ground floor. Good spacious room, there was some disco music at nights but not loud enough to be annoying.
