Spanish Arch Hotel - Galway

This is the perfect place to stay in Galway if you are interested in checking out the Latin Quarter! Fantastic pubs, restaurants and live music abound, and there is also a good amount of shopping in the area as well. We had a car with us which was no problem, as the car park is just a few doors down. The street the hotel is on is a pedestrian only street, so we parked nearby and then went to the hotel for confirmation on which car park to use, as they stamp your parking ticket for a fantastic deal on parking. The room we were in was on the top floor, facing the street which we found ideal. I would recommend requesting a room such as this for two reasons; you have a charming view of the street below as well as the water, and you will be as far from the bar noise as possible. The noise was the only thing I could possibly fault about this place, but it wasn't a problem for us because we knew ahead of time there would be a live band in the pub below, and we booked for location and atmosphere, not peace and quiet. That being said, if people are concerned about music and are not planning on enjoying the atmosphere of the area then book elsewhere (outside the Latin Quarter in fact) or make sure there isn't a band that night. The pub was very nice, we didn't have a meal there but stopped in for a pint. They even have a local brew on tap called "Galway Hooker" which was interesting. The bar staff were quite charming, as were the local patrons in the pub. In fact anyone we talked to in the area were very friendly.The room furnishings were quite plain and seemed a little worn to be honest, but the entire room including the bathroom was extremely clean and the bed was comfortable. Just don't be expecting a brilliantly decorated room or brand new furnishings. The bathroom fixtures were older, but we had more than enough hot water and good pressure in the shower. Overall would definitely recommend the Spanish Arch Hotel! Outstanding location, charm, and value.

The room was very small. The carpet looked not really clean, so we did not want to go on bare foot on it. The window was open on arrival and in the whole room it smelled like in a kitchen (fat). It was not possible to get another room so we left the hotel after one night, originally there were 3 nights planned.

It's a very good place to stay at if you don't mind lestening to the music until the early morning, as the street of the hotel is full of restaurant terrasses and the music goes on until late, as well as the voices of people. Anyway, it's worth, for it's placed right in the heart of lovely Gaillimh.

Fine if you're on a stag night otherwise I would avoid it. Don't expect too much of the staff.

My partner Tony and I really enjoyed our stay, the receptionist couldn't have been more helpful, The room was nice. The only thing I didn't enjoy (and this wasn't the hotels fault!) was the building work going on just outside my room, but as that didn't start until morning my sleep wasn't that disturbed!!! Great Hotel.
