It was our first trip to Hotel Villa Irlanda..and we will definitely be back! The hotel was perfect, our room was amazing, the grounds beautiful and the staff couldn't have done anything more to make our vacation relaxing and special!

Great pool, great welcoming, nice room (standard), but you need a car as Gaeta is 2km from the hotel! I recommend it!

The only "Grand" thing is the garden, which is beautiful. Ask for a quiet room with a view onto the nice swimming pool and you'll keep yourself from the noisy street running by the other side. The hotel is very poorly staffed and services provided are not sufficient for a mid-range hotel, but this one calls itself "Grand". One hour before they ended serving breakfast, only a quarter of jam tart was left alone on the buffet and at least ten people were waiting to be seated, their hunger taking over. Bring your towel to the swimming pool, they will not be providing you with. Nearby Gaeta, do not miss Sperlonga a very picturesque village.

This is our fourth stay at Hotel Villa Irlanda Grand Hotel. In the past, we stayed in the main building. This time we were put in an outer building with many stairs but rooms were comfortable and clean and the estate is really beautiful.

This hotel was fab, the swimming pool was beautifully kept and cleaned a few times a day, also we had a really friendly pool attendant who seemed to be great at looking out for all the kids in the pool. The rooms were really clean and very big with a big bathroom too. The staff at reception were really helpful too and provided us with info on car rental and nice restaurants in the area. Also unfortunately we had to leave a day early and they very kindly didn't charge us for that, even at such short notice! They only gripe we had is that the hotel is quite a way from the beaches and main hub of gaeta and you would defo need a car/bike/buses to get around. Also the hotel restaurant is very posh and quite expensive so you prob wouldn't want to eat there every day. But overall a great place to stay!

We stood there for two nights and it was our first vacation there. We enjoyed the wonderful houses, including the pool area and garden. The room had a nice view to the garden and pool and was very silent.

Rather boring hotel for the price. Almost nothing made of the history of the buildings which was a shame. It seems to have weddings every night which is fine unless you don't like late night parties. It's location just off the beach is a little off given there is a main road to cross and then rocks. It would have been nice if they had a relationship with one of the beaches that got you on for free. Having said all this the roooms were fine and did have a conecting door from us to the kids so we could hear them easily, the staff were nice and the large pool empty of people.

Bellissimo hotel, grande e bellissima piscina, ambiente rilassante malgrado i banchetti serali. Ideale per passare un lungo fine settimana.

Although the location of the hotel is entirely different from the given location on ViaMichelin's maps, the settings are as beautifull and special as advertised. The hotel buildings are impressive and beautifully restored/developed into a hotel. Even for a single business traveller the rooms and especially the bathroom are small. Service excellent and friendly.

We visitied the hotel in late October 2005 and were very impressed. The hotel buildings including the original 19th C villa are lovely and the setting is idylic and the hotel nearly empty for the week of our stay. Our room was beautifully clean, a lovely old high ceilinged room, perhaps a little on the small side, but with a stunning bathroom, floor and walls tiled in marble and with huge old fashoned fittings. We looked out over the pool, which was lovely but might have been noisy in high season. The public areas in a late 19th century style are typically italian and very nice and are set around the pool area which is the highlight of the whole hotel, although it could perhaps do with a little updating. The staff were very welcoming and service excellent, although they were not busy as the hotel was very quiet. The hotel is obviously very popular for local weddings and other events due to it's location and style. This resulted in one very noisy evening meal, with lots of Italian wedding guests, although as visitors from the UK, we found this local colour enjoyable, others might not agree. The noise was confined to the dinning area and did not affect out room by the pool. The only adverse comment I would make is that the hotel is quite close to the fairly busy main road which runs along the coast. This did not affect us unduly, although traffic can be heard from the pool area. This may be less noticeable in the summer when I imagine that the pool area would be more noisy anyway. I imagine that traffic noise might be a problem during the day for the rooms at the front of the hotel overlooking the sea.

Excellent hotel with spacious rooms and friendly staff. We stayed for 4 days bed and breakfast and were delighted with value for money. Pool area was fantastic and a pleasure to use, resturant was excellent. Only one downside which the hotel can fix, there was no booklet, in English, in the room explaining the hotel facilities like you get in other hotel rooms i.e. resturant opening times, bar price list, dinner prices, how to book for dinner, map of the hotel grounds etc. Perhaps the hotel would think about this for future guests.

Fabulous hotel in a beautiful setting. Only drawback is that it is too far to walk to the center. But the beaches are just across the street.

THE STAFF WERE FRIENDLY, KIND AND HELPFUL,SURROUNDINGS BEAUTIFUL TO RELAX IN AND RECHARGE MY BATTERIES. THE BREAKFAST GOOD QUALITY COMPARED TO OTHER ITALIAN HOTELS AND THE EVENING MEAL EXCELLENT ESPECIALLY THE ANTE PASTA BUFFET. IT WAS SOMETIMES HARD TO FIND SERVICE IN THE LATE AFTERNOON. THE POOL WAS WONDERFUL TO SWIM IN AND RELAX BY. I WAS SORRY TO LEAVE AND HOPE TO RETURN ONE DAY

Wonderful setting and great pool. Dinner excellent. Breakfast was basic - had to pay extra for a boiled egg! We booked a suite (214) but the arrangements were cumbersome being on 2 levels (full storey in height difference) and not very usable as a suite. Access was only partially by lift and then by stairs only.No help with bags.

There was no promotion of the area. There are good beaches, restaurants, places to visit, easy train journey to Napoli, visits to the hills etc.. A car is necessary. I had the impression the hotel is geared to the local community and local commercial visitors. this is a pity as the area has a lot to offer.

This Hotel is excellent its a pity it was march and the swimming pool was too cold. The pool area is stunning. In summer this hotel would be amazing. The surrounding area is also a hidden Italian Gem. Hotel rooms are a very high standard. we stayed in six hotels on our trip this was the best.

Your hotel remains one of our best memories. This is not only due to the ambience of the surroundings (rooms, grounds and pool) but also due to the graciousness of your staff. The one gentlemenan who handled our bags was also there to acquaint us to the pool, set up chairs, etc.). We are still talking about how delicious your antipasti buffet was at diner.

It was a beautiful hotel and the nicest around. Unfortunately we only had one night to enjoy this hotel as we were on our way to Naples. It was such a nice hotel that I hated to move on. It was one of the few we stayed in that we had ready access to our car. We had not intended to use the beach but we were pleased that it was so close to the beach.

Bello il parco con la piscina, deludente la camera, spartana e con un bagno minuscolo (inesistente il piatto doccia, ci si lavava praticamente sul wc, allagando tutto il bagno).

Absolutely fantastic swimming pool and surroundings, just as it looks on the photos. Very few people , we had the whole pool to ourselves some of the time, and this was in July. Our room was brilliant, but a friend had the room with the extractor for the kitchen going past the corner and the noise was like being on a runway. However this was only mid-morning and then from around 6-10pm.

There where nearly no restaurants in Formia! And very long to nearest restaurant in Gaeta. The menu at the reception of the hotel did not show prices.

Summary: Nice relaxing facility to recover from jet lag. Everything was better than shown on the website. Pros: Large 25m outdoor pool, beautiful grounds, nice view of the bay, Mediterranean beach just across the road, good breakfast buffet with a nice outdoor patio, good on site restaurant, fantastic banquet hall, bus stop just outside the front gates of the Villa, € 12-15 taxi ride from Formia train station or buy a € 0.77 bus ticket from the Tobacco stand at the station and take the first orange bus because they all go straight past the Irlanda on their way into Gaeta. Gaeta is a busy little town with a USN base, Italian Coast Guard School, Italian military bases, boat builders and a large fishing fleet. Formia has less obvious industry and a little more shopping. Cons: None.

Don't mess with the restaurant manager - he is not crazy about guests in shorts at dinner.. Otherwise a wonderful, friendly hotel in unsurpassable surroundings. Rooms are smallish - but you'd never dream of staying in them anyway. We'd love to come back.
