Hotel Ocean Gardens - Funchal

Nice hotel. Poor directions on website. Some road noise but only at busy times which were not frequent. Bus stop into Funchal immediately outside the gate and shuttle bus from hotel were very useful. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was plentiful and good. I suggest sharing mains at the restaurant unless you are very hungry. Best garlic bread in Madeira.

The hotel is quite recent and rooms are spacious and confortable. I would however expect more from the isolation provided by the windows: even though the area is quiet, you get to hear some traffic passing by. The reception personnel could be friendlier, perhaps it's because of the fact I am portuguese in a hotel usually visited by non portuguese tourists. Overall I had a very pleasant stay and the price / quality ratio is unbeatable!

Hotel is situated on a uphill road with medium traffic, including trucks and busses, which can be very loud, due to the steep slope. Windows are only of average noise dampening, so take ear plugs for proper sleep. All rooms are towards the road. Due to the slightly remote location nothing to be reached by footwalk, bus stop in front of the hotel to get in the city, otherwise a rent car is recommended for those individually planning their journey.

Excellent hotel, friendly and helpful front desk staff. Good restaurant with fair prices, beautiful swimming pool and garden, stunning views from everywhere. Don't come for less than one week to Madeira, it's too short.

Absolutely splendid vacation. The time was running fast, we visited many places, but we shall come back one day, of course to the same hotel!Magnificent views from the restaurant terrace , Funchal looked very nice from that perspective. No such views were seen elsewhere, just fantastic. Thanks Venere!
