Hotel Madeira Regency Cliff - Funchal

We stayed in one of the ocean-view suites on the second floor. It was spacious and had a beautiful view as promised. The rooms below us opened directly on the hotel patio and would have lacked privacy. We forgot that our reservation came with breakfasts (and were not reminded at check-in) so we forewent two morning meals. The hotel floorplan requires guests to walk through the dining area to go to the elevator; it is an awkward arrangement for guests and for diners. The hotel is located directly on the water, but there are no beaches in Funchal. The hotel pools are small and deep; not for young children or adults who want laps. We enjoyed the pools for simple recreation. Also, the hotel is located in a cluster of many other hotels in a commercial area on one of the main roads into the Funchal city center. There are a variety of convenient shops and restaurants nearby, but the surroundings are urban (concrete), not tropical (green). The public transport into Funchal runs regularly along this road, so it was easy to get into town.

Excellent breakfast. Very quiet room. Excellent view on the ocean. Reality overcomes the presentation. Quite a lot expensive to dine here. Better referring to the restaurants of the old city.

Lovely hotel. Really quiet, all rooms away from road with great views from balcony over Atlantic. We were upgraded, which the hotel seems to do when possible. Staff very friendly and helpful. Regular courtesy buses to town centre. Breakfast very good and we recommend dinner deal - food is excellent and attractively presented. Only minor criticism is that swimming pools are rather small. Ideal hotel and country for older couples but not so good for children or young couples wanting nightlife - which we didn't. Probably the nicest hotel we have stayed at. We will be back!

The Madiera Regency Cliff is a great place to just chill, and small enough to provide that personal touch. The staff are friendly and helpful and work as a family team. We love our room and have been back 4 times now. The champagne cocktails are great, the only thing that it lacks is indoor space for sitting around apart from the main lounge - but when you have got a nice balcony with breathtaking views why would you want to worry about sitting around watching others.

First visit to Madeira. WebPrice (1E/day) was an error-was NOT impressed by hotel reaction to my booking(email conversation available if you're interested?)but actual stay was excellent, particularly the staff who were universally friendly & helpful.

Despite Madeira being a very beautiful island I was disappointed with Funchal. The city in my opinion lacks character and with all the elderly English holiday makers there it was like 'little England' (but in the glorious sunshine!!) However, the excellence of the Regency Cliff somewhat made up for this. I really could not fault the standards of the hotel itself or the employees who were all extremely friendly and helpful. We did not eat dinner there although the food did look as if it would be good. We did not like the idea of the 'themed' evenings. There are some very good restaurants in the area where we enjoyed some fantastic meals including Villa Cipriani where we went for our wedding anniversary dinner and found it to be a delight. Breakfast in the hotel was good with adequate choices. Eating it out on the patio was a perfect way to start the day. This hotel was exceptionally good value for the price charged and I would thoroughly recommend it.

Good hotel located amongst growing development outside Funchal. Easy access to local transport and restaurants. Peaceful location and views spoilt by very loud piped music in restaurant and dining terrace.

We stayed at Madeira Cliff Hotel for 10 nights in September 07. The hotel had emailed us prior to our holiday to ask we if we would like them to arrange transport from the airport to the hotel, for which we were grateful. Upon arrival, we found the hotel reception staff extremely helpful and we even had a room upgrade to a suite which was a welcome added bonus. The hotel is spotlessly clean and we found ALL staff very helpful and polite. Nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend the evening meal deal for three or four nights at the hotel as the food was quite delicious, especially the evenings when there was waiter service rather than buffet. There is evening entertainment most nights and nothing beats eating al-fresco (weather permitting). The surrounding area was excellent with a shopping mall nearby and restaurants within walking distance should you fancy a change from the hotel. All in all a wonderful holiday and we shall certainly return to Madeira and stay at the Madeira Cliff Hotel.

A small friendly 4* hotel, good quality rooms and staff service. Good breakfasts with ample choice. Evening dinner rather disappointing but in fairness we did only eat in on 1 evening. Location ideal,just that little bit further out of the main busy area and lovely and peaceful. Ideal hotel for the more mature holiday makers. No noise. Good pool facilities. Would certainly stay in this hotel again and recommend to others.

The hotel was exceptional, we were upgraded to a premier room at the same price. We stayed 7 nights instead of the 1 night that we had booked originally. The breakfast was buffet style, plenty of fresh fruit, cooked breakfasts needed more variety. We would use this hotel again if we returned to Madeira. The courtesy bus into Funchal was very convenient.

The photos don't really do the hotel justice. We loved this hotel. It is modern but fairly small and the views from our room were stunning. The breakfasts were excellent though we didn't eat an evening meal in the hotel. We would definitely return to this hotel - can't wait!
