Funchal Design Hotel - Funchal

The design indeed is exceptional and the interior is beautiful, but it has some downsides, for example the tilted mirrors, that make it very dificult to use the sink. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the location is quite good between the city and the major "hotel area". The breakfast is nice. There were little problems like lack of attention to some small needs like replacing soap, shampoo etc. (i have used all of it during my 5 nights stay there and they never brought new, though i have asked). Some basic services are missing (iron for example). At the end of the day - it was good a good choice to stay in this hotel.

Great location in a great site. We stayed there two weeks and enjoyed the most stylish, comfortable apartment ever. Almost all places of interest in the city centre are in walking distance - just a 5 to 15 minutes footwalk. Highly recommended to people who don't like packaged tours but want to discover Madeira island and the city of Funchal on their own.

This february 2010 was my 3rd time in Funchal. This hotel is within 3 minutes walking from the very heart of the city and the same from Santa Catarina Park, so very convenient to explore Funchal by yourself everyday. Simple rooms are not very spacious but the sudios with well equiped kitchen are quite nice. All members of staff are very nice and competent and will do their best to make you feel at home. The food at the italian restaurant is quite good and at very affordable prices. I got a studio for 38 €uros a night. It's really worth to spend your hollydays in Funchal in this small 4* hotel (only 16 rooms and studios on 4 floors). Experience it !

Poor TV/Radio programm and quality. Poor light in bathroom (mirror).

The hotel is exactly like on the pictures! Clean, quiet and very close to the center of Funchal and the marina. big breakfast - a basket of 3 different rolls, 3 differnt fruit, marmalade butter and a yoghurt and coffee/tea/juice to drink. the staff was very welcoming, but they didn't really know where the aerobus stops, so I lost a bunch of time walking all around Funchal with a suitcase trying to find it on my way back; they also didn't know where the sightseeing bus stops.. but I wasn't there to stress, so I let it pass. Overall A+!

We stayed for a single night, but the experience was great! We're sorry we didn't stay longer! Rooms are minimalist and just as in the photos. Friendly staff, very helpful and polite. As this hotel is small, and no lunch could be provided (only breakfast at the moment), they offered us free transport to another bigger hotel belonging to the same group company, in Monte, where we could have lunch or dinner, or use the spa facilies, pool, etc (the latter with no extra cost) Its location is superb, in a pebble street right in the city centre just beside Dolce Vitta Shopping Centre. Stunning decoration. The only flaw: black paint can be, or actually IS cool, but in the shower I personally need a bit more light. No other complaint apart from that. Breakfast was nice, though we missed more ham and cheese, only one slice to share for my partner and I, and we are Spanish 'morning bocadillo-sandwich' lovers so were slightly dissapointed, but only slightly) Other than that,and not to sound fussy and greedy, the hotel is as good as it gets. Excellent!
