This was an excellent hotel with a delicious restaurant as part of it. The hotel owner, Stefano was incredibly gracious and friendly. We enjoyed our stay very much and would definitely recommend this hotel.

Everything fine, only one comment: if you are the kind of tourist that rushes from one place to the next sight, it is really far (around one hour) from almost everywhere you may want to visit. So you'll have to trace back your route one hour again the next morning!

Amazing fairytale location, a jewel hidden away in the mountains. The proprieter is an excellent friendly person and I would definitely reccommend this to anyone who stays in the area or even intends to stay in Bergamo!

Before booking I read the other guest reviews and noted the comments on the lack of soundproofing in the rooms. This did not put us off booking, as the other comments were so positive. Nevertheless, you can hear every sound through the walls, even when using ear plugs. Because of the tiled floors sounds are magnified in the extreme. Apart from this problem, I cannot think of anything negative to say about the hotel. It is astonishingly good value for money. While the rooms are not very large, there is plenty of room to move around and there is always the balcony to sit out on. The bathroom was a good size and there were large size towels. I don't think I have been in a cleaner hotel. Everything was spotless. The owners are incredibly helpful and friendly - and the food - the best we had in Italy. My husband doesn't like pasta but came away raving about the ravioli and I don't usually eat meat, but feasted on rabbit. The breakfast was superb with lovely bread and delicious cheese.

AKA "Echo Central." Location was fabulous - up in the scenic gorgeous mountains. Lots of cute local farms and good photo ops. We got there late in the afternoon and the check in was sort of self-guided: they just left the keys laying out and we grabbed them. We didn't see any hotel employees until morning. I believe it is just a father and son. Breakfast simple but yummy: croissants, tea, etc. Don't expect anything cooked, like eggs or bacon. NOISY!! This has to be the loudest hotel I have ever stayed in. All the noise originated from inside the hotel from other rooms. Even from 10 doors down or 3 floors above, I could hear people coughing, sneezing, snoring, clearing their throats, talking, etc. I am not exaggerating. There is not a single bit of sound insulation in this solid concrete sound amplifier of a hotel. Also the beds were extremely HARD and I am a thin person, so hip problems are incresed on super-hard beds. Showers were hot, rooms all had their own bathroom, lots of space. Sparsely decorated, if at all: plain white walls and no pictures/paintings. Do not spend a honeymoon here unless you are celibate or you don't mind a couple dozen other people knowing your business. Extremely picturesque, but quiet a distance from any major towns or any tourist activities to speak of at all. Isolated. I would stay here again, but only on the condition that I had earplugs with me (which I did) and I could get padding for the rock-hard bed.

We booked this hotel for one night as we wanted to be near Bergamo airport early in the morning. The internet route planner we used said it would take only 25 mins but you should count 50 minutes. It's a steep climb with many hairpin bends. This family run hotel offers excellent quality - the meal was the best of week stay in Italy. The gnocchi with creme of walnuts blew our minds.

I'd definitely recommend the Hotel Moderno despite a few minor disadvantages - like the noise (the hotel seems to be made of that concrete that makes even distant high heels and chatter echo sharply in every room). We only stayed there one (short) night before heading down to Bergamo airport for an early morning flight. The journey down the 1000m+ mountain takes about 40 minutes at 4am so it's quite convenient for early departures... probably much less so if you hit rush hour. The location is lovely - high in the hills/mountains in a village that is at the same time totally unremarkable and really charming. We probably should have eaten at the Hotel - the very friendly and amenable owners were in the kitchen when we arrived, the menu sounded great, and the open fire was inviting, but we wanted a pizza and headed out to one of the two pizzerie in the village for a pretty average meal, then stopped for a digestivo at the Bar degli Alpini, where they were also really friendly and a group of men were playing an impassioned and photogenic game of scopa or briscola, berating each other in dialect so thick that only the bestemmie were distinguishable. I'd go back as it certainly beats staying in a hotel on the motorway, and Fuipiano is a nice contrast after the chic glamour of Bergamo Alta.

We had an excellent holiday at the Hotel Moderno - contrary to other reviewers we did not find it difficult to find (just make sure you don't miss the turn-off in San Omobono!) The road up to Fuipiano (about a dozen hairpin bends!) was great fun and the views from the village stunning. We had a top floor room with balcony looking out over the valley which was perfect. The room was clean, reasonably spacious and comfortable, and the bathroom was also nice. Our only slight irritation was the amount of noise you could hear from the other rooms - you could virtually hear the people in the next room snoring, and one guest who wore high heels as she clumped around her room at 7 am provided a somewhat unwelcome early-morning call! The hotel staff - the hotel is family-run, I think - are polite and helpful and the owner speaks good English, (and other languages too I think) so Italian is not necessary. Breakfast was plentiful and enjoyable - juice, sweet croissants, rolls, ham, cheese, hot drinks. We only ate one evening meal in the hotel, which was very good indeed - I think the cuisine is probably generally very good, but because it was mid-October and the hotel was quiet we felt a bit conspicuous on our own in a large and otherwise almost empty dining-room! Besides, Fuipiano is off the beaten track - if you go out for the day, you don't want to return for meals until it's time to go back for the night. All in all, however, an excellent find, probably under-priced for what it offers and an idyllic location for a 'get away from it all' holiday. Recommended.

Very nice hotel and surroundings. Staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent restaurant and not very expensive. We will return next time. The only thing we did not count with is the distance in time to the airport. Although it is just 30Km, the road is very windy and passes through many villages. Count on at least 3/4 hour if you take the correct route.

This hotel is a pearl in the hills above Bergamo. We have stayed here twice now and despite the windy roads, will return as often as we can. The friendlines of the staff, and the generous and wonderful food alone make this hotel well worth the extra driving!

This is a wonderful mountain get-away. The food was fabulous! The room was spacious with a balcony. It was a bit difficult to find, so make sure you have good directions. You must have your own transportation to get here--we had a motorcycle and it was a terrific way to experience the mountains. This is a wonderful property. As I said, the food is fabulous!

A very nice place, only 50 minutes from Bergamo Airport and City, and 1 hour from Lecco Lake. Very friendly staff. Nice and clean spacious rooms. Baby facilities. Fuipiano is an osasis of quietness, and Moderno is the best place to enjoy it. We will come back, sure.

To get to this wonderful hotel you do need a car to go up the hairpin bends but it is absolutely worth it! The food was amazing and the owner/waiter Stefano very helpful and speaks also English. Up in the mountains it was wonderfully quiet and cooler than in the valley below. Definitely worth exploring the area, we will be back.
