What a lovely place to stay, very friendly and clean. Our only complaint is that we would have liked a kettle and some cups to make a cup of tea.

Perfect location; only 1/2 block from the Duomo& a few blocks from the mercado centrale. The view from our room of the street scene below was the best part. We could watch the street come alive in the AM ( to sound of the Duomo bells)and observe all the activity on Borgo San Lorenzo all day long. There is a nice cafe for coffee and rolls for breakfast and several bars/restaurants on the street as well. The room needed more towels and a bar of soap for the sink. The bathrooms were new and very clean. The climb up 3 flights is not for the weak and the 1am curfew is a minus if you like the nightlife. Delita the desk person was charming. She and my son had an instant connection.

It was definitely a pleasant stay. The manager was really nice. she can speak really good English and was very nice to us. Pointed us to the super market, museums, resturants, etc. The price was also very good. If I were to go to Florence again and I'll stay there again.

This hotel is more like a motel than an hotel. There is no character to the place. Just a bed and a shower. The room was quite spacious, but felt very cold (white walls, very basic furniture). The bathroom floor was old and tiles were broken. No matt provided. The closing doors of the shower were not very easy to handle. The windows were facing the street; Quite noisy. The price was ok. Friendly owner who speaks French and English. She is passionate about India. I do not think that I will go back there as the place lacks personality and warmth. Good basic budget hotel, clean.

The day we came we unfortunately booked the wrong date, and after a while was stumped what to do, but the owner kindly offered help where we stayed in another hotel for one night. After coming back the next day, we were finally shown our room, and was decorated nicely, all other rooms including the bathroom had a modern finish. The room was pleasant and cool during the evenings and was kept tidy from some mess we left. Each morning bed sheets were changed. The hotel is located 3 mins walk to the duomo and is located near a bustling leather and clothes market (san lorenzo). The only complaint was having to ring a buzzer for entry, but is for security. It wasn't a problem because we where tired from sight-seeing all day and came back early. The owner often would make a few jokes at us, that made the hotel rememberable and were kind enough to let us leave our huge rucksacks on checkout day. To summarise an excellent little hotel in the heart of Florence, with a slightly intimidating but friendly service that made our stay totally worthwhile!

Gracias

This place is fine to stay as long as you know what you are getting, and if you have low expectations. It is a hostel, not a hotel: there is a very strict 1:00am curfew, and you must turn in your key as you leave. The effect of that is that you feel like you are reporting to your mother when you come and go, only if your mother was a patronizing, unfriendly and unhappy woman. We had a double room with private bathroom and shower. The room was large but dirty (well, stained is probably more accurate, as the mess appeared to be old rather than recent), although the bathroom was clean. We had an air conditioner which worked poorly, and which the proprietor turned off at her whim (much to our dismay). That said, our room was very cheap, and the location of this place is great. If you don't mind the curfew, and are just looking for a cheap, not-horrible place to crash, I'd recommend this. If you're looking for something more, go somewhere else.

Very nice pension, the only thing that bothers me are the time limit given to use the shower for the shared bathroom ( not after 9h30PM) (We would want to take cold shower after hot evening...) Door closed at 1 AM in the morning ! which did not bother me but, might take attention to someone whom want to go out late. The other thing is no lift. For older people whom have heavy suitcase, you have to walk up to 3rd- 4th floor.

Hotel Pensione Canada was a good value for the money. It was simple...no bells or whistles...just a spotless room with a place to sleep and shower. The location is unbeatable, down the street from the Duomo. One thing to note is that there is no air conditioning. We were there at a very hot time and had a rather sweaty night. Also, we asked to leave our bags for a few hours after check-out and we couldn't - not a deal-breaker but something to be aware of. I will definitely stay here again in the future, but not in peak summer heat.

Really a nice place, near the Duomo (from our room we could see the Campanile!!) and a good price. The lady were so kindly with us, truly a pleasant place to stay! I hihgly recommend it to everyone, with one exception: If you are expecting to fully enjoy Firenze´s nightlife this is not a good choice because at night closes the door. For us this wasn´t a problem as we weren´t in Firenze for party, but it´s better to know.

The lady was somewhat bosy and irritating. The room was clean and okay but with the rooms setup like a dorm room any noise one makes disturbs the next door neighbour. So, like us with a baby it was not a good option. Also, I think for the price one can get much better options. No breakfast is included and this is not a hotel like.

Very nice place. We were warmly welcomed and given the information about the local area as soon as we arrived. The room was simple but plesant and although the bathroom was shared, we never had to wait for one of the two bathrooms. The location is perfect with the cathedral just a few hundred metres away. From here, the whole of the central city is within walking distance. We will definitely stay here again when we next return.

ATTENTION!!! You have to be in the hotel at 01.00 at night! There is NO possibility to enter the hotel later and the staff is NOT AT ALL willing to make compromises. Cancelling the reservation after having found out is also not possible... Also the bathroom has to be shared with several other rooms. In my eyes a 100% DO NOT GO THERE...

This hotel can't be beat. The location is literally a stones throw from the Doumo. The hostess was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were well sized and clean. I can say if for some reason you plan to be in your room during they day,(I don't know why you would in Florence) it can be noisy from the street until about 8. Finding the hotel on the street was a little tricky because the name plaque was pretty small. It's a bright shinny brass sign.

Was pretty much what we expected for the price. Unfortunately, there was construction going on right outside our window, so we were awakened early every morning to very loud drilling noises. Also didn't know about the 1 AM curfew. You're required to leave your key at the desk every time you leave and ring a buzzer to be let back in, which was somewhat annoying. Shower door was broken, and would not stay on track. GREAT location though.

We stayed two days in this hotel and we have to use the shared bathroom. The location is good(in the downtown),but course it's near the street, there is a bit noise. The hotel staff keep asking us not to do this ,not to do that.I don't think it's worthy of the money. But generally speaking,we think the location is the most thing among the other services.

My husband, two young adult children and I stayed in a large room with a double and 2 single beds in the back of the hotel--very quiet and the room was very spacious and immaculate. We shared a nice, clean, bathroom down the hall, but never had any problems with availability. Very welcoming, and quite inexpensive for being in the very heart of Florence. Parking available in a garage not far from the hotel. The woman at reception spoke excellent English. There are some steep steps.

Rooms were great, very clean. I think the nicest we stayed at in Italy. The shared bathroom was spotless, recently renovated and I would love to have one like that in my house. Our room had a small patio. The hotel was very centraly located, easy to find from the train station. Upstairs from a very busy pedestrian street, just ring the doorbell and you are buzzed in. As you go up the stairs (two big flights if that is a problem don't book here) the street noise disappears. Every time you leave you have to be buzzed back in. The atmosphere is a little bit quiet and convent like so if that makes you uncomfortable don't stay here. Otherwise it is very convenient, attractive and clean. I would recommend it.

This was a very nice place to stay for us a a middle -aged couple. It might be more difficult for older or infirm travellers as there were nearly 50 stairs to climb. Younger travellers might find the 1:00am curfew limiting. But for us this quiet location was fantastc...just steps from the Duomo on a pedestrain thoroughfare which led to a terrific street market near San Lorenzo as well as the Central market where we could get reasonable coffee and breakfast with fresh fruit from the vendors. All sights and shops and train connection were very close.

I was not impressed with the climb to the office as I had lots of heavy luggage...it really was difficult. However, for Florence this was an excellent choice for us...the price was very good, the receptionist was very friendly and helpful...I find this a common thing as I make a point of being polite and friendly and people respond..The room was not thrilling, but it was pleasant and very clean...we made a mistake about check out time and still they were very good about it. very convenient location. This was an excellent choice except for the stairs.

The owner of the hotel (not sure of spelling - Diletta?) was fabulous and speaks excellent English. She made us feel very welcomed right away, was always helpful with pointers, recommendations and answered all of our questions. The hotel itself is simple, clean, and quiet (except for nearby church bells, which would likely be heard from anywhere) - exactly as advertised. Diletta has decorated it with photos from around the world, offers a couch and tv for guests to relax, and uses a fragrance from the nearby Santa Maria Novella farmacia to add to the atmosphere. Based on online feedback we'd read, we requested a room not facing the street and received a large room in the back with a private bathroom and a small, lovely courtyard. Despite expectations (again, based on others' online feedback) that our room wouldn't be cleaned during the day, they did in fact provide new clean towels daily. The location of this small pensione is amazing! The street it's on offers several cafes and restaurants, shops and gelaterias. Half a block to the north is a church and the San Lorenzo market, and the amazing Duomo is a block to the South. The train station is a 10-15 minute walk away, as is the Mercato Centrale. Aside from a river view you couldn't ask for a better location. There is security for the building (have to be buzzed in, and a gate) and Diletta opened the door to the Pensione to greet us each time we returned. Lugging our bags up the flights of stairs wasn't much fun, but its an old building without an elevator and the stairs weren't bad after that first time up. (During previous trips to Florence I'd always had staircases to climb, but never such quiet rooms.) All in all, an excellent budget pensione without feeling too "budget".

Hotel Pensione Canada is situated very central (1 min. to the Dome), you can reach every sightseeing point and railway station by foot. The street in front of the Hotel is very noisy until late in the night (Florence is noisy!) but there are also rooms towards an inner courtyard. Hola!

We had a very nice stay at the Pensione Canada. Great choice for a budget accommodation RIGHT in the center of Florence. I was immediately charmed by this place for one particular reason - the delightful woman at the desk. Incredibly kind, warm, talkative, helpful. We were coming from Venice and missed a train and arrived VERY VERY late (12:30 AM!!). She opened the door and in a whisper told us check-in closed at 10 PM. But then she took one look at our crestfallen and slightly bedraggled travellers' faces and bustled us inside and showed us to a room. She speaks EXCELLENT English and French. She gave us recs for restaurants and other tips. I had long chats with her about our mutual love of India and any number of topics. This is definitely a no frills establishment. No breakfast and VERY strict curfew. (we felt like horribly naughty teenagers when we came home one night 10 minutes past the 1 AM curfew). The rooms are IMMACULATE though so large as to be a bit barren. They have rooms available both along the street and in the back on a shaft. If you want to feel part of the flow of the city and people-watch I REALLY recommend a room on the street (one evening my boyfriend and I sat there on the windowsill and drank a bottle of wine and enjoyed the hubbub tremendously.) However, that being said, it is QUITE noisy in these rooms at night ESPECIALLY on the weekend. If you are interested in a quieter stay I would suggest a room on the shaft - still plenty of light but no view - and these rooms might be the quietest in Florence! Before arriving I read reviews mentioning the stairs and honestly expected the place to be on the top of the building or something. It's not, it's just two floors up, really NOT a big deal unless you are older, weak knees, disabled, fatter than average or with more than a suitcase each. The only unpleasant moment in our stay was upon leaving - we had thought check out was at 11, so we stayed in bed till 10:30 our l

Good price for a great location. Right around the corner from Il Duomo and just a few minutes walk from the train station. Travelers should note that you will need to carry your luggage up two flights of stairs, but of course this is not unusual in Europe. A few toiletries were provided and room was cleaned every day. The only downside to this hotel is that it is very "echoey". My wife and I called it the whisper hotel, because talking in a normal voice is definitely too loud! We did not have any problems with others being too loud, but we did get "shooshed" while talking in our room at night. Other things to note: 1:00 a.m. curfew, no breakfast, cash only.

We messed up our booking but still received excellent service. Great location, mostly quiet (can't help the cathedral bells at 0700).Strongly recommend for conveniece and value.

The only thing I would complain about, which isn't really that much of a complaint, is that we were moved after 2 nights into another room which was less quiet. But, all our things were moved over without any work on our part, which made the transition extremely easy! Other than that, the location is ridiculously good, and we got good restaurant recommendations and information from our hostess. Be warned, there are lots of stairs.

A brilliant place to stay in Forence - spotlessly clean, good value, excellent central location and the most friendly and helpful lady owner you could wish to meet. Would not hesitate to stay at the 'Canada' again if visiting Florence.

Absolutely awful experience for a young couple. Maybe okay as a youth hostel, but we felt uncomfortable the whole time. Every little noise was amplified by the bare walls, so we could hear everything in every room at all times... no privacy at all. We did not feel welcome, either.

Pensione Canada is not a small charming budget hotel rather a hostel type atmosphere of rules and lack of service. The location is great but I would not recommend this place.

A lovely place, quiet, welcoming, spotless spacious rooms. The uxorious owner was always waiting at the door with the key. Right in the middle of town, but our room was on the inner courtyard so very quiet. One pays in cash, but not too much of it. 100 yards from the Duomo you can't complain about the bells at 7am!

Location could not have been better. There is no elevator, but we knew that. The only possible shortcomings were no telephone was available & the shower stall was very small.

Fantastic place to stay. Basic accomodation but very clean with really helpful staff. Excellent location. Very good value for money. I have only rated the quietness of the room less than 10 because the bells from the basilica are very loud early in the morning. The accomodation itself is very peaceful and quiet.

We had a really nice stay at this hotel. The hostess was really friendly and kind, our room was on the inside so it was quiet and the church bells weren't very loud in the morning at all. The bathroom and floor was the cleanest of our whole 2 week trip. I cannot stress enough how surprisingly clean it was in that bathroom. I didn't even feel the need to wear shoes in there which NEVER happens. there was no elevator up, but we needed the exercise. and Tina wrote on our map and showed us how to get to our destinations and recommended a restaurant across the street Giannino in S. Lorenzo, which had a great florentine steak and ribollita. I would recommend this place and stay there again, for the price it was definitely worth it.

TO AVOID ! A Trap! Otherwise it was clean, and in the deep center. room: 7m²(I mesured), with 2 small beds (one was a cot!) i said that I booked for a double room, the owner answer me for that price (59.5euros)I had to send email when i booked to ask why it's so cheap!! She told me if i am not happy i can go away; but on the 30th of december, difficult to find a cheap hotel (that's why i booked!).

Myself and my wife were at the Pensione Canada, Florence for one night, our stay was very pleasant. We were welcomed by a very informative, nice and hospitable owner. The hotel is located right in the center of the city, almost overlooking the main attractions. The shared bath was cleaner then the attached bath we have had at any 2-3 star hotels within Europe. Owner 'Tina' was really really nice. She not only made recommendations for the places to see, gave us the attractions map, and recommended some great places to eat(even vegetarian) for all the budgets, she also told us a bit about our next destination 'Rome'. I will definitely recommend this place to independent traveler, family, couple or just plain tourist. The Hotel is on the second floor, in the building which does not have a lift, so pack light. We both were really satisfied.

Pensione Canada is one of my favorite budget hotels in Italy. It's a great value for the price. The location is right in the center of Florence. The rooms are clean and large. The price is affordable. But most of all the staff is so friendly and welcoming.

for value, our room with a very spacious shared bathroom, was excellent, a lot of steps up from street level to the rooms makes sure there is no street noise, walk out into the street and you are in the centre of Florence, a safe and secure Hotel, with friendly, very helpful staff, clean linen each day.

We had a wonderful stay here, and the owner was very helpful with recommendations and advice for sites, areas, restaurants, gelateries etc. to take in. Keep in mind, since the location is so close to the bell tower of the Duomo, you'll get a very loud wake up call at 7AM every morning.

We saw some negative feedback from previous guests, but find this hard to understand. You must realise that this is a budget, family-run hotel. Yes, there is no lift. Yes, there are a lot of stairs from the street to reception (53). Yes, you must pay in cash. Yes, there is a 1 a.m. curfew. Yes, you must ring the bell at the door and wait for it to be opened every time you go in. The ensuite double room we stayed in was spacious, spotless and quiet, apart from the frequent sound of church bells. The facilities were recently installed. The location is superb - in the centre, not far from the SMN station, near the street market and with plenty of choice about where to eat. Talk to the owners for recommendations about where to go. We liked the people there and the place itself and recommend it whole-heartedly.

The location was amazing, less than a block from the Duomo and the San Lorenzo markets, about a 10-15 min walk from the train station, so very convenient. However, the proximity to the Duomo meant we were awoken very early, and very frequently, but the VERY loud bells from the church: charming the first few times it happens, but decidedly LESS charming by the 3rd morning. Lots of stairs to reach hotel, probably not a good choice for those with lots of bags, or the elderly or disabled. GREAT service provided by the wonderfully warm and kind reception/hostess. Her service redeemed the hard beds and early mornings, along with the lack of hot water and water pressure and an extremely small shower stall. Overall, this is a good choice for a budget traveller looking for great service and location, someone who is not too concerned with the amenities.

The hostess was very helpful, warning me not to wear my bag at my back because of pickpockets. Also helped to recommend interesting things to do. The rooms were simple and clean. Excellent location right near Il Duomo and restaurants. 'The Fool' restaurant across the street is yummy.

This hotel is extremely clean, the rooms are spacious and the lady who runs it is very friendly and helpful. Be aware that there are no kitchen facilities, so breakfast is not an option, but that wasn't a problem for us since the location is right in the centre of Florence. We paid 80 euro/night for a double room with en-suite and it was probably worth it, given the location, friendliness of the staff and cleanliness of the rooms. We actually decided to stay an extra night and had to change rooms for the last night, but the second room was just as good as the first. Would stay here again.

We traveled as a young couple to Florence. Pensione Canada is at a great location as it's located at the city hub itself ... the Duomo is just a 2 minute walk from it & other city attractions too are at a walking distance, infact we never had to use any kind of transportation to visit the sights. Just a caution here as its kind of little difficult to find the place the first time. The hostess was very gracious & helpful. We had reached the guesthouse an hour before the check in time, but we were pleasantly surprised when she informed us that our room is ready. We took a room with attached bath. The room was very spacious, well kept, quiet & clean. The bathroom too was spacious & had a shower. Even after checking out I believe we can keep our luggage there & collect it when its time for us to leave the city. Couple of negative points about the place is that they dont serve breakfast & considering this fact I felt the room rate was little expensive. The guesthouse is located on the 1st floor of the building but the building has no elevator. But all & all I would definitely give a thumbs up to Pensione Canada & would surely like to stay at Pensione Canada again

This is a wonderfull place to stay, in the centre of Florence. The owner is very friendly, the rooms are spacious and clean and so is the shared bathroom. The rooms on the site of the street are very noisy though (all night long), so bring earplugs and don't stay in these rooms if you're a light-sleeper.

This hotel is a real bargain, my favourite stay in Italy. It is located just around the corner from the Duomo, so you will be right in the centre of Florence. The lady working there was the friendliest we had met in Italy and her English was excellent. The shared bathroom was very clean and spacious, as was the bedroom.
