A very nice hotel ran by an Italian family. Clean and proper rooms. The breakfast was poor. However, I will go back to this hotel if I go again to Florence.

This was my second time in Florence. This is a good hotel and we had a really big room, really comfortable as well. Shame it was not possible to use the garden (under refurbishment)and the car park provided by the hotel would be 15 euros a day (too expensive).

Even though the staff did not speak english, they were more than helpful. We had a great time and will be coming back as soon as possible. Thank you so much for all the wonderful breakfast treats and cappucinos!! Great place to take walks from and close enough to see the beautiful sights of Florence

I'm surprised by the hotel's quality: clean, quiet, large sized room, esp. fascinating its high ceiling ... ; it is located in typical residential area; with quiet neighborhood. only less ideal for a busy visitor is the hotel's location is not very close to major attraction and commercial area, but it's not really trouble for us since Florence is not a large city like Rome; ... overall it is excellent. we like it.

Good value for money, especially for rooms with terrace facing garden. Breakfast is quite plain, but typically Italian. Historical center is easily reached by foot, for example 20 minutes leasurely walk to Pizza S.Croce, along parks and residential housing. Bus 17 (not number 10 !) goes from Stazione S.M.N., but is a bit hard to find. There are not chestnuts on this street!(the name derives from a renaissance artist). Lemon and orange trees in the garden make up for this.

The hotel is communicated well by the center and as soon as you know where you are, you needn't any transport. It is very clean and is ideal to rest. A noise is not heard. The personnel is efficient, specially the ladies who are in the recpetion in the niaght. They are wonderful, sweet and very friendly. It was like when you arrive to your grandmother's or aunts's home.

The price was great, the location quiet and the older ladies (family members?) very accomodating. It was very clean. Our bed was fine. Our room location however was horrid. The room was in the basement and so dark that the light had to be on during the day. With the light out, and the door to the outside open, it was still almost totally dark. We felt very claustrophobic. We asked to be moved to upper rooms, some with a balcony, opening to the garden but were told they were full and could not accomadate us. We left on the 2nd of 4 days. They made us pay for a 3rd night anyway.

Rooms are quite spacious for Italian standards. They are clean, and have a fine terrace looking to an interior court. From hotel to the Dome you can walk in about 20-30 minutes. Very good value for the money.

I was in Florence for two weeks on a business trip, and stayed at Villa the whole time. My main complaints are the dodgy internet-that's an Italian problem though, not restricted to this hotel-and that the rooms in the bottom floor, where I was, let in too much noise sometimes. Overall, however, this is a perfectly fine hotel for families, older people, or generally someone seeking to get away from the crowded, expensive, noisy historical center of FLorence. Prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly, and the neighborhood is nice for an evening stroll.

The hotel has 2 major inconvenients: rather far from the center - so poorly served on bus, even no direct bus, and the personnel does not speak english at all. The first point is not a problem as you need just 20 min by foot to get to the historical center, and the rooms are really quiet, but the fact that all stuff does understand ONLY Italian is very embarassing when you dont speak italien at all, especially to fill out resident cards - they can not help you even to explain what information is required in each field (we were obliged to rewrite at least 3 times and the proprietor finished by filling them in himself). Otherwise, breakfast is nice and garret single room is really cosy.

Overall this hotel is fine for people wanting a good night's sleep. It's in a quiet part of town about 20 minutes' walk from the centro storico, and thus isn't very loud or expensive; there's a grocery store and an excellent place for lunch up the street. The staff is generally nice but their English skills are limited. A little Italian-nothing beyond what you can find in a guide book-will get you very far with them, as they're happy to help when they understand you.

My stay here was quite good the room and bed were large and i had an ensuite bathroom. I was on the 3rd level with no lift so by the end I hated stairs! :) but my bag was carried to my room for me. The staff were very friendly and helpful but basically didnt speak english. the gentlemen that was often at front desk knew a few words and he sometimes understood my english which helped. there were some difficulties though as one night i stood outside for 20min as they had locked the front doors early and when i called they couldnt understand my english, i eventually found the buzzer at the front door which got their attention to let me in. besides this mishap though, everything else was very pleasant, good room, good bathroom, clean and also good breakfast. The directions dont tell you, but dont go all the way to campo di Marte station. the closest bus stop is via luca giordano which drops you at the end of the street from the hotel (very close!) but to get back to town you have to walk further down from this stop and then turn right (i cant remember the name of the stop i think perhaps it was via Masaccio). If you can deal with the language difficulties it was quite a nice stay and very good for the price.

Room was very spacious and tidy... Reception desk personal stank heavily of body odour at 10:45am, pity as wanted to get out fast. Bathroom light was extremely noisy thus very annoying.... Check in was at 13:00, was not accepted and had to return 2 hours later. Breakfast was the standard of a B&B.... This is a B&B disguised as a hotel...

We liked this place a lot. Most staff were making an effort for service..the place is impeccably clean, good coffee in the morning..plain choices for breakfast. Although the bus ride to the city center was at times tiring and night life restricting..it was a good place for us and would come back again.(watch that night man:)

We spent 2 nights at Hotel Villa il Castagno during our holidays and encountered problems to find the hotel, it was not well indicated. The hotel is located in a nice area and really close (15 mn by feet) to the historical center. The room we had on the ground floor was comfortable, clean and spacious.

The Hotel was clean and in quiet area, little bit outside of the historic center 20-30 minuts walk, but for us it was great, we have liked. From the central railway station 15 min. by bus and the stop was 2 min walk from the hotel. General area of the hotel was nice, because when u spend the whole day betweeen mass of the turists u come back with pleasure to the more quiet place to have a rest. And the same time you can feel little how the normal people live in the city. We stay in the hotel 3 nights and it was O.K. Services quality very poor, when we arrived and say for welcoming Buongiorno nobody answer and it's stay like this up to the end, we were traweling in Italy the whole two weeks and it was the most strange and not nice hotel services what we have met. But from the other hand u sped just nights in the room because during the day u are outside, so finally it's not so important.Breakfast very poor too, we get used for the Italian continental breakfast and it's can be very good when it's fresh croissant and good cafe:-) it wasn't case in the hotel.Summarise we liked the property and area but the services was bad, but we don't care about because Florence is beautiful and we spend there 3 wonderfull days :-)

Basic but nice rooms. The hotel was a little difficult to find at first and we had to ask a few people for directions. It’s out of the centre of Florence but only about a 10 minute walk. There is also a small local train station very nearby. (not all trains going through stop here though so check before travelling) Breakfast was also quite basic, coffee, bread & croissants. But were quite fresh unlike the breakfast at the hotel we stayed in previously

Excellent price/quality ratio. Note if you arrive by car: parking is not free on the street, you have to pay 1EUR/hour between 8am and 8pm --- We had a slight problem with their card reading machine. we left in the early morning hours (around 8am) and they told us it starts working at around 9am (what?!?). Finally it "booted up" quite quickly, so we managed to pay with a card - otherwise I should've withdrawn money from the cash machine on the corner. Not the best thing if you use a credit card, or a foreign debit card...

The walk from train station to the hotel is about 20 minutes, it is not 5 minutes(the data in the website is incorrect). And, we walk from the hotel to the centre of Florence around 30 minutes, it prefers to take a bus to the centre, the bus stop is just near the hotel. But overall, it is a very good hotel, we would stay again if we go to Florence the next time.

Simple hotel with quiet rooms. If you visit the town the and don´t have to stay in the hotel during the day it´s a good place for a visit of florence without spending too much money. the breakfast isn´t worth a word, just go in a bar for a second coffee and have some nice italien speciality. Best way to find the location is going to train station campo di marte. Summery: simple, clean hotel to stay the night during the town visit.
