An efficient hotel, close to the railway station and convenient for walking around Florence

Hotel had good location, close to street markets and easy walk from train station. Room was basic and no frills. Windows with thick wood shutters made the street noise nearly disappear for good night's sleep. For about $40 more a night you'll get something that looks a little nicer, but I'm happy with the slight trade-off.

Make sure you use a good map to find this place, as we had some trouble, though it was the fault of the map, not the hotel. Extremely friendly service from all staff, room small, but we enjoyed our stay in Florence.

Not bad for the money, but the temperature in the rooms was extremely hot (stayed at the end of April). Although they advertise as having A/C, they told us that they could not turn it on until the end of May. So, you could either sleep in the heat (sweating all night) or open the window (extremely noisy street by the train station) and not get any rest due to the noise. Lose/Lose situation. The internet is not free and the eating area is tiny. Those are the negatives. The positives are: It's extremely close to the train station, around the corner from the Duomo, pretty clean, and the breakfast (Warning: European style - no eggs) was great. For the money it was worth it. The heat was the biggest issue.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel in October of 2007 along with my parents who stayed in a separate room on the same floor. While the hotel itself isn't bad, I have to say that the first night and rest of the next day, there was no heat. My husband and I asked the front desk if they could turn on the heat and we were told that the heat doesn't work in any hotels in Florence until November. One of the front desk clerks did bring us a space heater for each room which worked okay, however, my parents' room had two windows in it which really made the room feel a lot colder. The next morning at breakfast, we sat next to an older woman who said she had to spend the night in her pajamas and several layers of clothes sleeping on one of the benches in the hotel's corridor. She had asked for a space heater but was told the hotel had no more to give out to guests. For the price of what hotels in Florence go for, this should be inexusable. Apparently, many complaints must have been made because by the following evening, the heat had been turned on in the rooms. As far as the room and bathroom, these were both kept clean. The cleaning lady was very nice and tried to be as helpful as possible. The hotel is very conveniently located to the train station - I would say it is about a 5 minute walk. It is also close to all of the major sites in Florence, especially the Duomo and Cathedral. The breakfast was good consisting of rolls, pastries, fruit, yogurt, coffee and juice.

The proximity to the train station was both a little worrisome (at first) but also very convenient. It could have been a few blocks cloer to the old town for convenience, but we still walked everywhere without trouble.

Had a very good price - beginning of summer, so quality vs. price is tricky. Not the first time in Florence, good location - close to the market and internet cafe's. Good boufet breafast. Shower is small - for tiny people, bathroom is ok. Highly recommended - depands on the price you get.

We didn't enjoy our stay at this hotel. The rooms were very simple and the furniture was cheap. Airconditioning was self controlled but didn't seem to work. Staff were fairly rude and unwelcomining. We found better value for money elsewhere in Europe. We wouldn't stay again.

An excellent hotel for the price. The room, location and staff were all first class and we would definatly recomend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit florence on a budget. The hotel is within 15 minutes walk of all the main sights and is ideally placed for those travelling by train as it is less than 5 minutes walk from the S.M.N station. The staff were great, and very helpful and the rooms were better than we expected for the price. Highly recomended

Arriving late at night as i did, the location of this hotel was ideal - less thn 5 mins walk from the train station/coah stop. Check-in was quick & friendly, breakfast fine and rooms very well kept. My single was spacious with excellent en-suite bathroom. Only neagtive comment was that it suffered from road noise till early hours from the very busy road at the front of the hotel. Very convenient for all of Florence's major attractions, particularly the Duomo, and plenty of places to grab quick snacks close by. Good value for money overall.

Hotel on great location (near train station and close to the very heart of the city center). The main problem was with the staff that was either arrogant or ignorant.

We really enjoyed hotel Sempione. It was in a great location, perfect for the train and touring the city. The accomodations were nice, clean and perfect for our needs. The only negative was even with the air conditioning on it was still hot. We would stay there again.

It's very, very close to the train station, which was great for us, although it's definitely in the heart of the tourist area, as the entire street is filled with hotels. The bathroom was tiny, but the room was fine. We had a large balcony with no view (we were on the first floor), but a little table and a couple of chairs. The staff was pleasant. I found there to be a slight sewage smell in the lobby, but my boyfriend thought it might be from the rainy weather we had been having. Over all, our stay was great... another wonderful Venere.com experience!
