The HOTEL RIVER was a great hotel to stay in. Just a short distance from attractions. Their breakfast was excellent - great variety. Just so happened that it was a Saint's day on our last day at the hotel. The HOTEL RIVER has a waterfront view with a terrace on the 4th floor (elevator). That evening we were treated to a 50-minute fireworks display!

The Hotel River is overlooking the River Arno and the view is magnifico! The rooms are the typically small but adequate variety and the bathroom has a shower only,no bath. Because there's no bath, there's only a shower curtain and water does find its way on the bath floor. The breakfast was very good and had a nice variety. There also was an upstairs (small) terrace on the top floor that we sat out at night. We could see the large replica statue of David lit up across @ the Michaelangelo Piazza! The desk staff was helpful with dinner suggestions & reservations, directions and arranging the taxi the morning of our departure. All in all it was a very good experience and I wouldn't hesitate a minute with making reservations again at the Hotel River.

My family had stayed at hotel river about four years ago and found it a very pleasant experience. This time not so much, mainly due to the the personnel attitude, which was rather cool and not very welcoming or helpful. Parking for our rental was rather a chore and expensive (25 Euros per day at a garage that would pick up your car and deliver it when needed) The shower stall in the bathroom was much smaller than i remembered. The view from the Hoet terrace as gorgeous as ever. Breakfast more than adeguate. Overall experience still favourable but a little less than our previous stay.

A ROOM WITH A VIEW Our room had a river view with a terrace which overlooked the Arno River and Piazzale Michelangelo. The terrace was divided by planted shrubs giving us a semi-private space so others could sit on the terrace and enjoy the same expansive view as well. The staff is friendly, efficient and responsive, especially Gino at the desk. The hotel is clean, breakfasts are good (ask for one of their excellent cappucinos), and the hotel is within walking distance of Piazza San Croce, Ponte Vecchio, and several museums.

I'm a business traveler. The stay in River LHP Hotel in Florence was delightful; there is no parking in the hotel, but the receptionist takes the keys of your car and call a parking not so far and they park for you! For turists: Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi and Palazzo Pitti are 10' walking far, and you walk on the lungarno. Employees are more than kind; they remember as they meet you your name and room number; and this for just 69 euro a night!

Clean and tidy hotel with a real service culture. Nothing was too much trouble for the reception staff including booking tours and providing reliable information. If you are staying for more than one or two nights, ask for a room with a balcony overlooking the Arno. The room was well appointed although small. The bed was spacious and comfortable. It is preferable if visitors carry out some pre-planning of where they want to go and what they want to see before arriving in Florence including booking admission tickets to Galleries etc. There are 4 electric mini bus routes that buzz through the back streets. Use the the one that stops outside the hotel. You can use them for 70 minutes for E1.20 or buy a season ticket and hop on and off . It saves leg work for galleries! A thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Excelent hotel!!! Worth every penny. The bus stop is right in front of the hotel so it is very easy to get to it. The hotel is in front of the river, a 15 min walking distance from Uffizi and Ponte Vecchio and other main attractions. I strongly suggest to stay at this hotel, actually I wish we would have stayed longer.

This is a lovely location on the river but much farther from the train station than we anticipated. Room was a triple and a nice size to make that work. It was in the basement and the window appeared to open onto an alley which was a little noisy with the window open. It was necessary to have it open because the room was too hot to stay in and the thermostat didn't seem to work. Couple that with very hard, lumpy beds and we didn't get much sleep. Shower was just a corner of the bathroom with a shower curtain creating a very small space. Breakfast buffet was fine. With all the rave reviews we read in advance, it was a real disappointment.

It´s a perfect hotel for couples in a four days visit to Firenze and vicinities. Perhaps a short products offering in breakfast (no cocoa for milk or bread and oil)could be the only dissapointment in a otherwise confortable and nice hotel

Great location for seeing Florence (especially if, like us, you are only looking for somewhere to stay for a couple of nights. This hotel is incredibly charming. It is decorated beautifully, and is extremely comfortable. The breakfasts were fantastic and the staff was very helpful and spoke English. The hotel is located right on the river and is quite magnificent at night. The only thing that would have made this perfect was if it was located more in the center of the city. It is a very small point. Considering everyting, we found this to be an amazing value and we would certainly stay again.

My overall assessment is that The River is a lovely small hotel, extremely clean, helpful and friendly reception staff, great location, a perfect choice for our first visit to Italy. There was some maintenance work being done during our stay of which we had not been notified and so this came as something of a surprise. This included re-painting the exterior, up-dating some of the rooms, re-fitting the public bathroom which was inaccessible throughout, and most significantly re-polishing the marble floors which was very noisy and off-putting on our arrival. However, as our visit was in November which is not exactly peak season, and I understand that hotels do have to schedule maintenance work out of season, the work was at worst a minor inconvenience, although sharing breakfast with the workmen was a novel experience. The hotel is in a lovely location, and even for me, a not very fit forty-something, only a 10 minute walk to the Uffizi and thus into the heart of tourist Florence. (A tip- the Number 13 bus from the railway/bus station stops virtually right outside the hotel. The bus stop is across the road from the station, almost outside McDonalds. Don't worry about missing your stop, keep a look-out for an ancient tower on the river front, as you near the hotel the bus will be heading straight towards the tower. As the bus turns right just in front of the tower, which was the Florentine mint, ring the bell and get off at the first stop on the riverfront, about 5 steps away from the entrance to The River). We loved Florence, just wandering around and marvelling can fill hours, without actually 'doing' the sights. Just remember to always look up, carry a map, don't worry about getting lost because it's small enough to find your bearings just around the next corner, and try the ice cream at Gelateria dei Neri (about 5 minutes walk from the hotel) as I can guarantee you will go back for more. I expected a lot from Florence and it never disappointed.

Very nice hotel. Just a 15 minutes walk from Florence downtown. I think it's the ratio price/quality is the best you can get. Excellent welcoming by Salvatore. Just two remarks: 1) the luggage room should be slightly bigger 2) we got probably the smallest room (#204) in the hotel. can it be that venere's user get the smallest rooms? however it was big enough for 2 persons and next time I will go to Florence I will stay again in the Hotel River

Finding a reasonably priced hotel in Florence is definitely a challenge, but Hotel River is a good solution, if you are prepared to sacrifice centrality for value. It's a (pleasant) fifteen minute stroll into the city centre, and the riverfront location is very pretty. The hotel itself is exactly as described - a pleasant 3-star hotel; no more, no less. It is clean, nicely decorated and welcoming.

An overall excellent choice: The room (obviously recently renovated) was spacious and clean, the employees were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was ok, with a good variety of choices. The hotel is within walking distance of most of the major tourist attractions, about 10 minutes to the Ufizzi. For that price, it is difficult to imagine a better deal. One word of caution: The cab ride from the main train station is quite expensive (EUR 15-20). You may want to try the bus or walk, if your luggage allows.

Unbeatable location at unbeatable price! I paid 50 € a night, breakfast included, for a nicely-located , very well-kept and quiet hotel along the Arno, 10 minutes walk from the Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio, during the month of August : this was the best bargain of my whole trip in Italy (I stayed 8 days in Italy and all my hotels were booked through Venere) . The rooms and beds were comfortable and practical, as was the bathroom . Breakfast was OK by Italian standards . Only minor drawback, but this has nothing to do with the hotel itself, but rather with its close location to the city center : if you come with a car and want to avoid heavy fine, you have to put it in a public parking which costs almost half the price of the room !... However, all in all, this remained a terrific deal . I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Florence .

A clean, quiet, charming hotel off the beaten track. A 5 minute walk past Santa Croce, but this is why it's so quiet. Great river views, terrific room and good staff. I'd stay again! I had a single room although it had a king-sized bed that had a balcony with table and chairs overlooking the inner courtyard. (room 210). The bar was very nice and well stocked and breakfast was included. Older travellers who are not used to walking much would need to taxi from the station and to some places in the city. Anyone who is reasonably fit will find this hotel a great value for the price.

Off-season this hotel was a bargain! Very nice accomodations, good breakfast, half-mile walk to everything, very convenient overall. Salvatore at the reception was one of the most friendly and helpful persons we have encountered in Italy in five weeks of travel. If you have a car and want to use it during the day, skip the garage and park across the street in the paid blue areas. The price is the same and you have the car available when needed, it just requires a little advance planning for the metered payment. If you don't need the car, have reception put it in the garage. I would highly recommend!

Hotel River is on the beautiful Arno River and across from Michaelangelo Pilazzo. The staff were cordial and professional and provided any requested information and suggested good restaurants. Their breakfasts offered a variety of choices, rooms were large and very clean and well decorated. The major sites to see were within walking distance but public bus points were just across the street. One suggestion, to consider clock radios in the rooms since many visitors may be Italian speaking challenged in watching television and music is a universal language.Prior to our visit, we had e-mailed them a couple times and they answered questions in a timely fashion. Their efficiency and desire to provide top service was constantly evident. They helped to make our trip to Italy a memorable, wonderful experience.

Looks better than in the photograph. great staff and nice ambience and tapestry. very clean too. big bathroom by european hotel standards. need to walk quite a bit to most tourists sites. but in Florence, the tourist sites are all over the place anyway. would consider staying there again for my next trip if its over a few days. However if it's just one day, maybe better to stay near train station as the cab ride is about 15 min and costs 15Euros. nevertheless a great hotel for its price.

We spent two nights at Hotel River at the end of July and would highly recommend Hotel River. We were very impressed with the services offered, the price, and the location - right along the Arno River. The hotel is located a short walk (a little over a 1/2 mile) to the Uffizi. The location is also good for those wishing to watch a beautiful sunset at Piazzale Michelangelo, as the hotel's location provides a fairly easy walk (although uphill). The hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was typical, but filling. For the price, this is a real find! We would definitely stay here again. The only word of caution is that we had a very difficult time getting to the hotel. We attempted to take the bus, but didn't know what stop to get off at and the bus driver was of no help. From S.M. Novella train station, take bus #13. Get off at the second Zecca Vecchia stop, which will be about a 15-20 minute bus ride winding through the city. If you know where you are going (i.e. have a good map and the address of the hotel) and don't have too much luggage, the walk from the train station is not that bad and is just slightly longer than taking the bus. Alternatively, you could always get a cab. Have a great stay!

The extremely friendly, helpful staff made this a wonderful stay. Delicious breakfast, lots of selection and a beautiful, sunny room to eat in. Nicely decorated, clean room and bathroom. Fantastic location, within walking distance of all the sites and right along the river. Can easily walk across the bridge and up the hill to the best viewpoint in Florence. There were so many tourists in Florence that it was great to be able to mingle with everyone at the sites, then walk back towards the hotel, where it was much quieter. Free internet at the hotel was handy.

The hotel was very good. The nearest main attraction is Santa Croce. It is about a ten minute walk to the Ponte Vecchio and main areas. The air conditioning was very good even though it was 37 to 38 Celsius outside. Breakfast was continental and adequate. The gentleman on reception recommended us two good restaurants (Baldovino and Osteria de' Benci) and we found Boccadama. All three were very good and good value. Overall the hotel was very good and good value and I would stay their again. We had a triple room.

It was not made clear while booking that the special rate of 72 euro was only for street level rooms at this hotel, and that no special rates was offered for rooms at upper levels through venere.com. However once you got used to the sound of people walking past your window, it was pretty good value for money and all other facilities were very good.

We would not return this hotel. It was OK, but the walk to the main city area was a bit too long on a daily basis, especially in summer when it was really hot. The rooms were quite plain, not much atmosphere, the internet facility was a small booth, which was very hot and not air-conditioned. The breakfasts however were very nice, expecially in the garden setting. The friendliness of staff varied, some were again nice. However, after all the good reviews on this website, my husband and I were actually a bit disappointed.

Friendly helpful staff, nicely renovated rooms and quality feel.Room in the Court Yard , whilst not huge was adequate and represented value for money. Breakfast was ok perhaps lacking in a little choice. Overall this was nevertheless a very nice little hotel and I would have no hesitation in recommending it and would definately stay there again

We loved The River Hotel. Of all the hotels we stayed at in Italy, this was by far the best. The staff was exeptionally helpful and friendly and spoke very good English. They recommended great restaurants and were very accommodating with organizing excursions and calling taxis. The room was outstanding. Plenty of space in the main room, spacious bathroom, and a quiet view into the courtyard. (I'm sure we could have paid more for a noisier room with a view of the river.) The air conditioning worked very well, even in the heat of July in Florence, which made for great sleeping after a long day of stomping around Florence. Breakfast was very nice; simple, typical Italian, and fresh. The River Hotel is within 7-10 minutes walking to the Ufizzi Gallery and 25 minutes walking to the train station (or the desk can cheerfully call you a cab to arrive within 3 minutes of the call). We loved this hotel. We hope you do too.

Excellent hotel for a short stay in Florence. It was within a 20 minute walk along the river to the centre of Florence (Duomo). It was another 20 minutes to the Station area. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. If you are in a car then parking is not readily or cheaply available outside, however there is an arrangement with a valet parked garage at 21 euros (cash) per day. A couple of good restaraunts just around the corner in Santa Croce area and the hop on & hop off touist bus stops outside the hotel - which was very handy. The hotel did have a small bar and it looked closed until you realised that the reception staff would get you a drink. Breakfast was the usual continetal mixture you would find in Italian hotels. The air con in the rooms was neccessary! If we were to return to Florence we would use the Hotel again.

After traveling for a month in Europe, this was by far our favorite hotel that we stayed in. The rooms and bathrooms are huge. Big bed with nice linens (not just two twin beds pushed together which is often the case in European hotels). Flat screen tv with cable, air conditioning, free internet access in the lobby, bar, and delicious breakfast in the morning. We had a great time and it was well worth the money. Also, it is a great location to walk into Rome to shop or see the sights. Not more than a 15 min walk into town. The staff were very helpful and knowledable about getting around town. You will not be disappointed if you stay at Hotel River.

The hotel staff were most helpful in reserving our tours and providing directions to the local attractions. The triple room was small, but the shower was a decent size. Bathroom was spacious. Also this hotel had a decent directory of services as compared to the others we stayed at during our vacation. Facing the Arno River makes the hotel picturesque. Overall, our stay in Firenze was very good.

Excellent hotel. Excellent service. Rooms were very nice and comfortable, and were much better in real life than what appears in the photos on the hotel website or on Venere. The staff were very polite and helpful. There is plenty of parking just outside of the hotel. The hotel's location is not exactly central, but the centre can be easily reached by a short and pleasant walk. One thing that potential guests should note is that the Ponte Vecchio cannot be seen from the roof top patio, despite what other reviewers have said. All in all, this hotel is highly recommended.

Lovely. If this hotel had larger rooms it would be 4 star. Good quality furnishings, thick towels, crisp clean sheets, decent breakfast and in 30C air conditioning that really worked and a was not that noisey. We could have even have sat on the balconey but it was too hot for us.If there was one thing negative the shower cubical was tiny but worked well.10 minutes walk from all the sites will stay again. All staff gave excellant service

Hotel River was a good value hotel for us. It had features that put it above a budget hotel yet the prices were very reasonable. The room was small but well appointed with a queen bed. The air conditioning worked well.French doors opened out onto a small courtyard. The bathroom was basic but functional and of adequate size. The breakfast was good. The hotel was located right at the edge of the historical district so the attractions were a bit of a walk. Over all we had a good stay here and would stay there again.

We were overly impressed with the friendliness of the staff at the front desk and their willingness to provide service. There was never any doubt we could always find our hotel easily because of the location right on the River. We would return to the River again.

We thought this place was great! Right on the River Arno, great views, walking distance to everything we watnted to see! Day staff was very friendly and helpful. The overnight guy was grumpy and almost rude - or only complaint.

Overall, a very nice facility. Free internet in the lobby, very helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable employees, varied and good breakfast with little sun room sitting area. Room was a bit small but was clean, had flat screen TV, comfortable beds, and A/C. Only drawback is lengthy walk to city center -- especially after a long day of sightseeing (about 20 minutes).

Nice and convenient. Room small and quaint on a courtyard. Plumbing good by Euro standards. Breakfast good with a garden room. Parking a hassle. The local garage guy wanted more money for our mini van and we had no choice. It came out of his tip. The river across the street is very nice and quiet in the early, early morning hours. Maybe not so in the summer. Would stay here again.

Overall, we had a very good experience. Rooms were nice, clean and very functional. Service was very nice. Breakfast was good. The hotel is less than a 10 min walk to Santa Croce and there are a lot of nice restaurants there. It's another 15-20 mins to the centre of the city and shopping. Although the hotel is not in the centre, the city is small enough to walk and the area around the hotel is nice. If necessary, calling taxis is easy and they are inexpensive in Florence (because everything is so close). It's a nice trade-off to be outside the city but in a very quiet room. Would recommend and would return.

I'd definitely recommend this hotel to everyone. We had the most pleasant stay there, and although it's the only hotel I'm acquainted with in Florence, it pretty much filled in on all of our requirements. The breakfast was very nice, and with many choices available. The location on the site, it's not exactly correct, the hotel is a bit more to the west, almost next to Piazza Piave. Anyway, the distance on foot to Santa Croce is about 7 min if you take a leisurely walk, so no problem there. We had no problem communicating with the staff, but we do speak portuguese/Spanish, so Italian doesn't really impose any major worries.

As far as quality vs. price, this hotel is well worth the money. It is not a fancy place, but it is comfortable, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again!
