A good hotel. The rooms are a bit dated but its a quiet area and very central at the same time. Excellent staff so I think good value. Florence is a great city, some lovely inexpensive places to eat if you look around. My one piece of advise is to check the prices of Ice cream cones before you buy, you could be in for a shock when it comes to paying!

Lovely Hotel, well located with very good rooms, pleasant crew at a convenient price. My wife and I recommend and will return. Jorge & Tina

Great location. Very close to the train station. We were able to walk everywhere. Room was quite large. Internet access was spotty in the room, better in the lobby. Breakfast was plenty. Staff was friendly and held our bags after checkout while we were out. We didn't have any of the noise problems others mentioned.

We had a family room and a double room and both were a good size and exceptionally clean. The hotel is tucked away down a quiet side street which minimised street noise. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was plentiful. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Noisy, Noisy! Hostel across the street has a piano bar and next door neighbors like to party. I and my wife like open windows, so bring your ear plugs. This is an excellent location and wonderful staff. Next to train station, 5 minutes.

this hotel was overall very good. Our room was over a noisy lane which leads to the station so we heard luggage being rattled over the cobblestones at all hours , rubbish being collected and one very noisy party of Australian men who had obviously been out for a good night( shame on our compatriots). There seem to be just a few rooms facing this way so just ask for an internal one. the staff were very helpful . Our room was lovely. the breakfast is adequate but basic. the hotel is just a short walk from the railway station which was very useful.

Room was very small, but comfortable. (We had the “Double Economy” type of room.) Recommend at least the next size larger, as you could not walk around the bed if someone was sitting at the desk. Desk clerks were very helpful. Breakfast was cereals, fruit, bread/rolls, meats & cheese. Internet connection is wireless, which we could not get to work in our room. Also, only available in two hour increments, although the desk clerk will give you passwords for more than one period at a time if requested. Close to train station, but in a nice area.

Handy to the station and a great location. Very helpful, friendly staff who went out of their way. Rooms were good but a bit tight. Late night entertainment(?) can be provided by the neighbours. Good breakfast.

Very nice property. Polite, helpful, clean and spacious rooms. Little to no noise travels between rooms, but street noise is an issue. I'm not sure this would be better at any other nearby hotels.

We were 2 couples traveling together and stayed in 2 double rooms. The bathroom was spacious and clean, staff was very friendly and helpful for directions and arrangements. Breakfast was good. Quiet area, but close to shopping and sightseeing. Excellent resturant several doors(Trattoria Enzo e Piero).

This charming hotel is located close to the train station and only a stone's throw from the San Lorenzo market and the Duomo. The Uffizi and the Accademia are also within walking distance. The rooms of this hotel are gorgeously furnished. Staff are very professional and friendly. Free internet is definitely a plus. Will return in the future.

Internet reviews persuaded us to choose this hotel and we were not disappointed. Even after a long and tiring journey, it was easy to drag our bag from the railway station to the Porta Faenza. Once inside we were kindly welcomed and immediately felt at home. The room (at the back opening on to a courtyard) was small but extremely quiet. The bathroom was a good size and well equipped. In the morning the breakfast, which included fresh fruit, was all we could have wished for. The position of the hotel is ideal. The Via Faenza is not busy but it is in easy walking distance of all the artistic and architectural attractions that we wanted to see. In the evening there is a good choice of restaurants a few minutes away. The staff, from the chamber maids to the management, were very friendly and extremely helpful, charming in fact. We stayed four nights and would use this hotel again. We felt it represented very good value for money and we liked its atmosphere.

We went to Firenze to have a look at the beautiful art galleries. We left the Terravision bus and we only walk five m' to reach Porta Faenza. We especially appreciate the cleaning of our room. We recommend the restaurant Nerone situated in the same street at two m' from the hotel.

Beatrice was cheerful and quite accomadating. Initial room was tiny tiny tiny but eventually we were switched to a larger room (although it was near the lobby and noisy early in AM). Location very convenient to train station.

Excellent hotel - located in an old historic bldg but underwent renovation, nice stylized interior design. Good value. Has elevator! The only complaint is that they are serving for breakfast the worst coffee in Italy.

Stayed 4 nights. Very nice hotel, friendly staff who spoke english, reasonably good breakfast, close to all the major sites we wanted to see as well as the train station, spacious room (ours had a quaint balcony outside), free wireless internet, good elevator. Made our Florence stay very pleasant. Directions from train station to hotel were vague and incomplete.
USA, Oct 2007
We stayed 2 nights. Our first night the room was very small and smelled terribly of mold. They moved us the 2nd night to a bigger room, but no smell. We were told they have a sewer problem when the weather changes (october). Also, the location is not very desirable - we didn't think it was a 3 star due to the location so near to the bus station with no good restaurants nearby.

Porta Faenza was even better than we expected. We had a GPS, so we were able to drive right to it, although it may have been a little difficult without it. Each time we dealt with someone at the front desk, they were very friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome. We were able to stay in a special room on the ground floor. It was very spacious and beautiful with brick floors and old wooden beamed ceilings. The bathroom was new and clean and we had a small flat screen tv by our bed. The room was right next to the luggage room, so it could have been noisy, but we must have lucked out because it was nice and quiet the night we were there. Breakfast was very nice (pastries & breads, spreads, cereals, meats, cheeses and fruits) especially by Italian standards and the common areas of the hotel were decorated with antiques. It was a short walk (5-7 minutes) to the Duomo and the center of Florence. The area around the hotel had many nice looking restaurants. I would definitely stay here again when I am in Florence.

This hotel provided excellent value for money. The price was much lower that in the other seasons as I think we paid 80 Euro. You could easily walk there with heavy bags from the train station and was in a safe area. It was close to the Duomo area and within reasonable walking distance to everything. The rooms were clean and there was one really great english speaking hotel clerk which really helped. She had a British accent and worked on some evenings or late afternoon. Our room was quiet from hotel noise but because we were right above the main entrance to the hotel and we were in a semi-busy neighbourhood, there was outside noise from the street, however that cannot be helped and did not keep us up. The shower was not that great as it was one of the hand-helds attached to the wall and there was no full shower door, however, it was adequate for showering and was not a reason not to stay there. The double room we stayed in was a decent size. Fast Internet was available free for use which was very convenient and was not the norm at the places we stayed. There was a variety of channels via satellite...it was the only place which provided both CNN and BBC and we had a flat-screen tv. The breakfast was standard, but included sufficient variety. I would definitely stay here again.

Great location. Be warned...mosquito infested...bring bug repellant! Quiet at night but walls are thin...the person in the room next door had gas...I could HEAR it. In the morning the housekeeping staff is loud so you must be up by 7am unless you can sleep through the noise. Otherwise cute hotel, great free internet for keeping in touch. GREAT location walking distance to everything. Cute little street. WOuld recommend again, just bring ear plugs and insect repellant and you're good!

It is a nice hotel and we are pleased to stay at hotel porta faenza. Breakfast is fantastic with quality and choice. Room is nice and clean. But the extra bed for a 3 person room is just an entension of sofa and the size is small. And a little disappointed with the location and check in procedure in this hotel The lady didnt ask for any proof document and passport when we checked in. Just pass me the key and even didnt show me the direction to my room. However, it is not a big deal. I will stay at there again for my next visit.

The staff were great! I corresponded with them by email multiple times to adjust my reservation and they were very professional and super helpful. Once I got there the first room I got smelled vaguely of smoke and they prompty switched me to another. The rooms were very clean and the breakfast was solid. While the location is very good, there isn't any view available and there are only a handful of rooms (2?) with a balcony. However, the top-floor room with a balcony is super (room 303 I think); it is spacious and has a long deck that overlooks the rooftops.

Italy, Feb 2006
We arrived together with 3 other families to stay there for only a day and the first thing that I had a problem with was where we could safely load and unload our vehicle because the hotel was located in a very narrow street with traffic going in and out every so often. We actually got in an argument with an Italian man when while we were unloading got very rude and wanted us to move our vehicles out of his way. Then we learned that the parking area for the hotel was located a block away from the hotel itself and that we had to reserve a spot for our vehicles ahead of time. The parking garage itself was very small so we had to make adjustments to how we were going to park our vehicles while inside the parking garage. When we got to our rooms we had been given a smaller bed than our other friends who paid the same exact price for their room which had a larger bed to sleep in. The pictures on the venere web site do not agree with the actual room size. We tried to explain that to the reception clerk but they said that we were to blame for the small room. As far as the location of the hotel, it is located within the city itself so we had fun going to the nearby markets, bars and cafes. We enjoyed our stay in the city of Florence but this hotel is now on my "never get this hotel if your staying in Florence" list. Hope you found this review helpful.

We were a family of 4 and had two rooms. I found the hotel to be very conveniently located (within easy walk of the train station)and the service and rooms to be of a very high standard. The hotel was in walking distance to everything in Florence and a great price. Highly recommended.

Enjoyed an excellent 3 days at this hotel, booked at the last moment, but was delighted with the quality of the hotel and its location. Its right in the hub of Florence but on a quiet side street, meaning that after a heavy days sight seeing you could retire to a massive comfortable room and unwind. Only complaint was that on our last night the tv blew up in the room! Apart from that, highly recomended

We were a group of four with one married couple and two female friends. We booked two superior rooms. One was very spacious with a nice bathroom. This was our 7th visit to Florence. On previous trips we have stayed in hotels which were within a couple of minutes of the Duomo. Very convenient but about £50 - £100 a night more than this hotel.I found Porta Faenza on the internet purely by chance but since our favourite cafe, Sabatinos, is in Via Faenza we knew roughly were the hotel was.[Do go to Sabatinos it is small, family run and has the best capuccino & snack meals in Florence.] Back to the hotel!.As good as any we have stayed in. Had a 'superior room' Well equipped.Facing the street so expect some noise from late night revellers & early morning street cleaning machine. Not a great problem unless you are a hypersensitive type. Staff very friendly & helpful. Breakfast perfectly adequate.Would we stay there again? Absolutly. At £81 a night very good value.

The hotel is fine. Comfortable and a good value. Its well located near the train station and sightseeing buses, with all major sights within walking distance. However, if arriving by car, its in a pedestrian area of Via Faenza and so finding it will be difficult and luggage a short haul. I parked in a bus spot and my wife walked up and down until she found it.

Quite simply a lovely hotel. The web introduction to it lets it down slightly. We loved that everything that we wanted to see was in walking distance from the hotel. We loved it here and would love to come back and have already recommended it to all of our friends. We were only staying for one night but wished we could stay longer. Unfortunately the directions on the web site did not work due to major road works, the ring road around the Fortress is running in the opposite direction. However once we got there it was excellent having the car park just up the road and this worked brilliantly. Well worth the money. The location of the hotel was great, close by to everything we wanted to see. The rooms were beautiful. The breakfast was the best we had in Italy (Rome and Venice). The reception staff were English and very kind and helpful.

Porta Faenza was a great find with lovely clean rooms and the best breakfast of our trip. Everyone on the staff was exceptionally friendly, helpful and educational. The location was excellent for both exploring the sights on foot and for driving out of town to visit other locations. The room was large and very nicely decorated. The bathroom had both a tub and a shower, was clean and appeared to have been newly refurbished. Everything was really excellent. The hotel's location is absolutely central, all the famous places and the downtown can be reached on foot in a few minutes. They offer a garage with a quite acceptable fee, so if you come by car parking is not a problem either. The rooms are very clean, however ours had only a small window looking onto a backyard- so it was very dark. That was the only problem which we faced to. I can recommend it for everyone

This hotel was nicely furnished and had a comfortable day bed for our son. We had a triple room. The bathroom had a makeup mirror, which is a welcome item for lady travelers. If I sayed there again I would ask for an inner room, as I had to close the shutters at night for complete quiet. We had a room facing the street. It was a very short walk to the station, which is important when you are carrying bags. Overall, very comfortable.

I was very pleased with my room at Hotel Porta Faenza. Though compact, it was clean, modern and fully equipped; and ample for my needs. It even had a little balcony overlooking the central 'well' of the building. The staff were friendly and helpful, and although they spoke excellent English, seemed indulgent of my attempts to speak some Italian.

I did not give a high rating in clealiness of rooms because they did not smell well. The rooms were clean but the bathroom had a bad smell coming from the pipes. The reception desk staff tried to solve the problem but it is a general problem of that hotel that cleaning will not solve.

We spent eight nights at Porta Faenza - if we are fortunate enough to return to Florence we would wish to stay here again. Not only was our room spacious and lovely with plenty of "old world" charm, but it was also very comfortable and had a new, modern bathroom. Maid service and breakfast were also excellent. I highly recommend this hotel.

I thought the photographs of the hotel that I saw when I was booking were completely different than the hotel itself! I was pretty shocked to find the location of the hotel. I thought the room was spacious and the furnishings just fine but it would be nice to have a comfortable chair to sit in sometimes. I thought the shower was the most ridiculous one I've ever seen. How are you supposed to regualte the water temperature and get into that thing without getting water all over the bathroom? It was horrible! I still tell people about it! I thought the common areas of the hotel could have been a bit more welcoming as could the staff.

Friendly and helpful staff. Convenient location on foot, but difficult to access by car.
How to reach Hotel Porta Faenza
By car
The hotel is easily reachable from the A1 highway. Take the exit Firenze Nord, or Firenze Sud, and follow the indications to centro and stazione, until you reach the big fortress called Fortezza da Basso. At the first trafic light turn right into via Santa Caterina D'Alessandria and continue straight for via Nazionale: the second street on the right is via Faenza. To access it drive straight until the end of via Nazionale, turn right and then right again in piazza Adua. Enter via Cennini in front of you, go straight on and you will find via Faenza. Turn right and after 30 metres you will see the hotel.
By train
The Santa Maria Novella railway station is only a 5 minutes' walk from the hotel. From the main exit turn into via Nazionale, the second street on the left is via Faenza.
By airplane
The Florence Amerigo Vespucci airport is approximately 5 km away. You can reach the hotel either by taxi or by the shuttle bus SITA which connects the airport to the Santa Maria Novella railway station: the bus ride takes about 25 minutes. Then follow the above-said directions.
