You really can't beat the location and the price for this place. However, it's very noisy if you have a room facing the street. Be sure to bring your earplugs or ask for a room that is not on the street. The party outside goes on most of the night, especially at the end of the week. It took us a few days to realize there was an elevator. They should be sure to tell you that when you check in.

We enjoyed our stay at this clean and comfortable hotel. Our room was a little small but had everything we needed and we received a free upgrade to an ensuite room thanks to our kind hosts. Ines and family were very welcoming and helped us make the most of our short break in florence, and got us everything we needed during our stay. The location of the hotel was perfect and close to all the main sites and some great restaurants. We would definitely recommend albergo por santa maria to other travellers!

This accommodation was just one step from a hostel, but for the price and location, it was fair value. Terribly hard to get to by car! The staff was very helpful. The room was small, the air conditioning could not accommodate the 32 degree heat, and the location was very noisy, right above the market with its early-morning set-up noise and music bar late into the night. There is a lift!

Hello! I forgot to put a comment, and one year later, let's do it ^^ As long as I remember, it costs me 210 euros for 6 days = 30€/day. Saying that, the quality is really astonishing compared to the price. It is a nice albergo near the centre. Service is really nice, always helping :) And the sanitary, sooo nice! Never seen a shower "on the ground", and there is 2 bathrooms, the quality and design is astonishing. It was so hot outside, but with the clim, it was enough bearable ^^

Eraldo at the front desk was incredibly helpful, calling a taxi for us and calling restuarants for reservations. Only comment is that we had a very hard time getting from the train station to the hotel. There needs to be more specific instruction on where to pick up the C2 minibus outside Firenze S.M.N. train station (road intersection, walking directions to stop).

Very nice hotel in the center of Florence: one minute from Uffizi, five minutes from Duomo and Ponte Vecchio, ten minutes from Santa Maria Novella railway station. The stuff is really nice and helpful. A little bit noisy - but what you want from the place between Piazza della Signoria and Mercato Nuovo? Earplugs would save you.

The rooms are quite small but very clean. Staff are friendly. Our room had a private bath, but, in my opinion, the rooms with a private shower only (and shared toilet) are a viable alternative. Location is awesome and the price-quality ratio is excellent. If you are looking for a clean room in a central place, book without worries.

Stayed in Florence for 3 days. Hotel staff OK (family-run apparently) but not very helpful in general. Rooms very clean but very poor equipment, bath towels cheap (and not changed daily), bedtime lamp missing (and no solution proposed), no internet possibility. No isolation whatsoever (temperature/noise). Location is truly grand, but the price/quality relation is not very good.

Given the price, an excellent value. Clean rooms and fabulous location (right on Vecchio Square)! Yes, the "trash trucks" do come by early in the morning (between 6 and 7 a.m.), but other than that, surprisingly quite given the location (I would recommend rooms facing Via Bacchereccia, not Via Calimala).

PERFECT LOCATION! Easy 10 minute walk to anywhere you want to visit in Florence. The straw market is right outside your door. Not very well marked, but if you have the address it is easy. The staff was very helpful and let me store my bags when I had a train later than my check out time. Upon arrival I was also given a map of the city. The room was small and the "private bathroom" was across the hall from my room. I will definitely stay here again when I return to Florence. Great value for the money.

We LOVED this little place!! it is right in the center of town, right where you want to be. each night we were serenaded by a new musician; one night enjoyed a cocktail party in the forum below our window. yes, a bit loud at times, but we were able to close the window and rest peacefully. We are middle age husband and wife. We liked our stay in this hotel very much. You cannot dream of a better location - 30 sec. to Piazza della Signoria! Lapu and Inessa were very friendly and helpful, their English was great. We liked our room on the second floor. It had 2 bonuses: the terrace/court yard and the kitchen (appliances were not allowed to use but the table and chairs were helpful for a home breakfast). The room and bathroom were clean. New air conditioner was wonderful! Will highly recommend to budjet travelers. Would love to return.

As a single female traveler this place was perfect. It is perfectly located between the bronze boar and the piazza signoria. I walked every where I wanted to go in Florence with ease. In addition, the people spoke english and were very helpful with my travels. I had the single with a shared bath. The room includes a shower in the room, you just have to share the toilette. In three nights, I only had to wait for the bathroom one time and it was for only a few minutes. I would definitely stay here again. Great stay for the price.

I really liked the location of this hotel, it truly is in the centre of the city which at the end of a tiring day is a blessing as it really is 'two steps' from the Piazza Signoria. If I were to return to this hotel, it would be for a short break and not a full week or more, as to spend that much time without a TV is too long for me (which is more a comment about me than the hotel). The facilities were clean and they worked; the different people in reception were all very courteous and helpful. And Florence itself never disappoints!

I booked here at the last minute because all the other hotels were full. I had to choose between being further out from the city-center, or having a private bathroom. I went with Hotel Por Santa Maria based on location, and decided that I'd give sharing a bathroom a try. It was PERFECT! We had a shower and a sink in the room and it ended up that sharing a bathroom wasn't a big deal at all. The location was prime. We were able to walk easily all over the city and stop off at the room several times a day to drop off our purchases. The staff was very friendly and incredibly helpful. The room was very clean. Florence is very noisy so I would definitely bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper, but that is not a problem unique to this hotel I believe, so I won't downrate them for that. My only complaint was that while the shower was fine when you were the only one trying to use it, whenever someone else in another room ran the water it seemed to cut our water pressure in half. If you can plan to shower at non-peak times this probably won't be a bother. The only other thing is to make sure you learn how to empty the water from the individual AC units. They fill up after about 8 hours and shut off and we had no idea how to fix it the first time.

It was a great place to stay. The staff, in particular one girl who was working there, were very friendly. It was right in the heart of Florence, therefore there was a general bustling noise outside the window, but actually quite pleasant and didn't stop me sleeping. Only thing I would say, is why not offer breakfast? Italian breakfast is so basic in places usually, surely even just a coffee machine coffee and croisant or something could be included in the basic cost. But other than that everything fine, I had a lovely stay.

Staff simpaticissmo, camera pulitissima.

The rooms were clean and the woman who greeted me at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. The only negative point was the noise from the street during the night due to the proximity to Piazza Della Signoria. This hotel is fine for a one-night stay - I was in Florence on a rail tour of Italy and this was ideal for what I wanted. It is convenient for the station and right in the middle of everything - do not expect it to be quiet! Crowds are milling about in the street below all the time and after I went to bed I was able to listen to a brass band concert! The public areas of the hotel have been recently refurbished, this does not as yet extend to the room I was in which had various interesting electrical arrangements such as a lamp over the mirror which once turned on would not turn off again and I had to unscrew the bulb. Also the shower was not hot. The toilet was right opposite so very convenient though not ensuite. There is no breakfast. This is a very basic one-star hotel, fine for a very short stay and near everything you would want to see in Florence. It is expensive for what it is, bearing in mind I paid the same price for a three-star hotel elsewhere in Italy, but that no doubt is what you expect in the middle of a city like this. I would add that the directions to this hotel were very good - it's down a tiny side alley and I would never have found it without the detailed instructions.

Neat and tidy at the 4th floor. Good location but small room and rather noisy till late in the night, the consequence of the location next to the piazza della signoria. In many respects, it would be difficult to find a hotel in a better location. It’s about 1 minute from the Piazza Signoria, 2 from the Uffizi and the Ponte Vecchio, 4 from the Duomo, and so on. The downside of this is that the rooms are extremely noisy and you need either to have good earplugs, or to be a very deep sleeper to get a full night’s kip. That aside, the hotel represents wonderful value for money: the rooms are very clean, the hotel building itself is very elegant (with a really stylish, if slightly small lift), while the hotel staff are just about the most friendly and welcoming people you could possibly hope to meet.

Instructions about the fact that the 'hotel' is on the 4th floor and how to enter the building were not clear. We arrived at night and were quite confused. However the staff were most polite and helpful, the room was clean and the location was wonderful.

Very good location. If you travel by car - really difficult to find parking (it's common problem of Florence centre). We use underground garage close to Viale della Giovine Italia, 47 EUR for 1 day and 2 nights. No breakfast, but there are lots eating places around. Small and modest room, but if room is with bathroom - it's OK, cos location outweigh all.

The Por Santa Maria is excellent in every way. I had a room without a bath, therefore sharing one with others and it worked out fine. The rooms are spotless and the hospitality is wonderful. Location is great as far as being close to the historical spots and three blocks of beautiful jewelry. A great place to stay with an affordable price and they have a lift. Susie USA

I stayed at Hotel Por Santa Maria for a couple of nights in April. The staff is very welcoming and helpful. The hotel is in a great location, literally steps from Piazza della Signoria, the Duomo and Marketo Nuovo. And I'd be surprised if the walk to Santa Maria Novella station is really 15 minutes long, more like 10! This hotel is perfect for single travellers or young couples - however I wouldn't recommend it for more mature travellers. Overall I had an excellent stay! I would absolutely return!

Por Santa Maria is located in the heart of Florence. Each morning I stepped out of the hotel and corssed the Ponte Vecchio to have my coffee and danish. The area around the hotel was completly safe and filled with every thing one would need. The staff were charming polite young people and very helpful. I will stay here again and I hope I get the same room.

This is a small hotel situated on a single level of a building occupied by other tennents. Our room was the only one with a bathroom, the rest are shared. Rooms are noisy but that is common in most Italian hotels. Rooms are old and need repair but staff are great. No breakfast included but if you go to Italy you dont go to eat at your hotel! Great location. Good place for someone who just needs a bed to sleep in and will be out all day sightseeing.

I had a great time! as a single woman I felt very safe and the employees were very friendly, welcoming and took care of everything that I needed. First of all the location is in the center of florence, this is a tourist area, it's safe to travel there even at night since it's a busy place. 5 min' on foot from the Duomo 15 min' from the train station. The hotel is located on the 4th floor and has few rooms, the employees are very nice and will try to help you in anything that you'll need, I came to Italy for a business trip, It's my first time to be in Italy so I needed a room just to put my luggage and to go out and travel and see Florence, so for me it was the best place in the best location and I can't believe that I got it in that price. I was in that hotel for 10 days and was very satisfied. I definitely will recommend it for everyone especially for single woman.

Perfect location--- exactly in the city center so it's so close to everything. Room is nice and clean. However, it's a bit noisy coz it's by the street. And I had some problem with hot water --- in the late night and in the early morning there's no hot water in my room. The personeels are quite friendly and helpful. I had a very good time in Florence.

The staff at Hotel Por Santa Maria are extremely helpful and very friendly. They helped us with driving directions, calling cabs and procuring phone cards. The room was very spacious and clean. We had a shared toilet, but there was a shower and sink in the room. Great water pressure and lots of hot water. There is an elevator, which was helpful with our luggage. Easy cab ride from the train station (10 euros). The room had a nice view overlooking the Mercato Nuovo. The only downside was the street noise at night...pretty noisy for light sleepers. Other than that, the stay was excellent. The hotel is located right off Piazza della Signoria...so it was very easy and quick to walk to the Palazzo Vecchio, Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi Gallery and the Duomo. Lots of restaurants and shops around too! Florence was magical at Christmastime!!

Single room with own shower and shared bath. Best thing about this spot is the location. Just outside Piazzo del Vechhio, easy and nice walking to Duomo, Uffizi, everything you want to see. Room was clean, simple. Shower was typical small stall in corner. Shared bathroom was clean; didn't have trouble accessing it but I was a bit off-season. Room door lead to the small lobby, and it's not well insulated. I could hear conversations in the lobby (although never disruptive). The staff were extremely helpful. Great value and location for casual traveler.

This hotel is a fantastic deal for the price. It is incredibly located--right next to the Piazza della Signora and the Mercado Nuovo, and within walking distance of every main site. Because it is so central, at night the street outside remains a bit loud, so I would recommend it more for people who will be out rather late at night or don't mind the noise. The staff does not speak much English, but everyone was very courteous and helpful. They allowed us to leave our baggage even after checkout while we were still walking around the city. It is certainly no frills--the shower is in the room but the bathroom is down the hall--so travellers wanting luxury might want to look elsewhere, but for a traveller looking for a fantastic deal at a central hotel/hostel, this is the right place.

It's better call to the hotel in advance to ask the explanation how to find them. I had the map of the city, which I took being in Florence last time about 4 years ago and I don't know why, but there was no hotel street on the map. So I called the hotel in advance to understand where was it. It was very easy to find the hotel afterwards.

The hotel was in a great location--many points of interest were a short walk away. The room was spotless and comfortable; the service extremely personable and helpful. The hotel is adjacent to a very busy part of the city so I'd suggest using earplugs if you are a light sleeper. I highly recommend this hotel for its location, service and cleanliness.

First time at this hotel, staff very friendly and helpful, and located right in the centre of the city, literally a stones throw from Ponte Vecchio and Piazza della Signora. Great view from the room overlooking the boar as shown from the photograph. However you can't be so central and not expect noise, this hotel may not suit people who want quiet at bedtime. Our room had a shower but no toilet, so check if you are fully en-suite.
