Very friendly staff, wonderfully kind and helpful. Super place and excellent value for money. Great location: 5 minutes from the train station and just off Santa Maria Novella Square with its relaxed atmosphere and great ice cream shop! The Duomo, Pontevecchio and art galleries are an easy walk away and there are lots of great places to eat nearby.

It was quite a shock to find the triple bed room of Hotel Ottaviani ( which was actually Pension Ottaviani) near the Florence railway station with virtually non moving fan in midst of peak summer. Regulator not working and the room and towels smelly. Under circumstances the only option was to keep the window open for some amount of fresh air to come, which unfortuantely faced the extremely noisy street down . The staff of the hotel was unhelpful and failed to address the problems faced by us .They could neither provide alternative to the show piece "fan" nor the cotton buds to block our ears from the terrible noises which we experienced through the night without catching a wink of sleep. The beds were equally uncomfortable to add to the restlessness we experienced there. We were forced to pay in cash as credit card was not acceptable where as the hotel website said otherwise. I would recommend this property to my enemies only. The worst experience ever!

I stayed at the Ottaviani in July 2009. The rooms are very clean but also very basic. There are no extras (such as soap or shampoo or bathroom in the room). The breakfast is minimal with coffee from a machine and brioche with jam. Think of it as a pensione, not as a 'hotel'. It is good value in a pricey city and the padrona is very friendly so I would recommend it to travelers who don't mind roughing it a bit. I recommend the nearby "Trattoria al Trebbio" for dinner (Via delle Belle Donne, 47-49): very atmospheric eating outdoors in the small piazza. If you are hungry and in the area of the Bargello, try Pizzeria "Mastro Ciliegia" at 34R Via Matteo Palmieri.

We stayed for two nights. Hotel was clean, convenient near the train station. Everything is in walking distance to the main sites so you really dont need to take buses or trains. Employees are very nice, they helped us go on a wine tour in Siena. Breakfast was good which included coffee and pastries. Overall, hotel was good.

Location is great. Piazza Ottaviani is the piazza behind the church of Santa Maria Novella, so only a 5minute walk from the station. The sign is for Pensione Ottaviani. Not much customer service offered, I was merely pointed in the direction of both my key and the room and given no details about provision of breakfast. Small shower and sink in room. Only one toilet to be shared and both mornings I could not get access to it. But good location, cheap (for Florence), clean and safe.

I have just returned from a wonderful trip to Italy with my wife. We came to know about this lovely hotel via tripadvisor and we really enjoy our stay in this hotel. The hotel is very near to the train station and Duomo. The lady who run the hotel really made us felt at home. The room is nice and sweet. It has a detached bathroom. There is a ceiling fans too. The share bathroom and toilet is clean and nice. The breakfast is provided and there is free flow of coffee from the machine.

Hotel Ottaviani was a wonderful suprise! The room we stayed in was huge and so spacious. The bathroom was right next door and was kept clean at all times. Breakfast was a roll, croisant and a cup of tea/coffee but perfect to start the morning off. The staff were friendly and very accomodating and even though the lady at the front desk could not speak english that well she was very helpful and welcoming. I would definately stay here again : )

Comunque ci tornerei!

Good location, close to railway station and historic centre. Rather noisy, but you won't probably find a quiet place in the city. You cannot close the window at night due to lack of air-conditioning. Very clean, including public bathroom. The bathroom in the room contained of a sink and a timy shower in the corner.

no shower in the room as specified in the web site! so, just a shared bathroom, with a more than tiny shower... really not enough, even for 50€/night. and very badly soundproofed, we can hear every word of our neighbour... otherwise, very kind people in this hotel!

We paid 65 Euros per night. The location was good, about 10 min walking distance to the train station. We stayed in Room #12. We had a hard time falling asleep at night because of the loud noises coming from the street (cars, glass bottles being thrown around, trash dumping of local retaurant/cafe, people). The older woman at the front desk was rude when we arrived for check-in. She was on the phone for a good 10 mins before paying any attention to us. There was only 1 bathroom facility per floor. We had to wait to use the bathroom at night. Our room did contain a shower and sink, but no toilet. The shared facility was kept clean. I would not stay here again because of the level of street noise for that price.

Stayed there for 2 nights in May 2009 for the price of euro50/night for twin sharing without shower facility. Room is dirty, the floor is filled with dust. Location wise is ok, very near Santa Maria Novella train station ~ 500m. It was very noisy at night and we did not actually get a good night sleep. Breakfast - bread and tea/coffee.

No geral, valeu a pena pra mim e minha esposa.

You could not get a much better location in Florence than this place. It is within a couple minutes walk of the train station and Ottaviani square is right outside your door. This was my first trip to Florence and I'm not sure I would stay at Hotel Ottaviani again. Great location for young people trying to save money but I would never ask my parents to stay here. We did share a bathroom which was right across the hall. If you like having a normal sized towel, bring your own otherwise you will be using a hand towel to shower with. Hotel staff does not speak English well.

Nice place, reminds me of home due to the floor tiles which were the same as my house. The shower which was ensuite was small and needs some getting use to. The breakfast was ok, 1 brioche and a bread. But it is the same for the rest of the days and you can get quite sick of it. I suppose one shouldn't complaint, this is not a 5 star hotel. Cheap food/eats is across the street at the bar (friendly staff). Expensive food is equally across the street, at the historical Busta Mario's (1886). Expensive but authentic. The location is great as it is next to Firenze SMN.

Well, we had a bit of surprise when we first arrived. Although I have booked a room with private bathroom, the bathroom is nothing more than a square of 1x1 meter of show area in the corner of the room covered with shower screen (the toilet is actually shared in the common area). We asked for room with a proper private bathroom but has to pay 25 euro extra a night. The room is actually not too bad except there is virtually nothing in the room apart from a table and a wardrobe (forget about the luxuries such as TV and Mini bar). We have asked for a hair drier but been told that there is only available for the entire hotel to use so we have to returned it when as soon as we have finished with it. One more thing to mention, the hotel does not except credit card so make sure if you have got the cash to cover the bill.

Pension is really in the center, very near from the realway station. It was really loud on the streets at night, but I think it's a common problem of this touristic town. No air conditioner, but we were there in october and it was not necessary. Breakfast was a cup of coffee, croisant, jam and a roll, so if you like something more substantial, you should go to a cafe :-) Room and bathroom were very clean and there weren't any problems with the staff. But it is a good place for all who is travelling on budget.

The good thing about this place is that it is close to the main railway station. There was a shower and sink in the room but the reception told us to take a shower from the share bathroom which is located outside opposite to our bedroom.

+: The staffs are really friendly. Strategic place near to the SMN train station & other tourist spots. Clean room & extremely clean shared bathroom + WC.Although the rooms are not so well equipped as they are pension but u could ask anything from them, They have it. -: The room i stayed is quite noisy although it's located @ the top floor. Eventhough the window are closed, we still can hear the noise from the crowd of the bar downstairs located juz opposite the street. Breakfast is only 1 bun + 1 croissant + 1 cup of tea/coffee (can be refilled) every morning. Can be more variable.

the hotel is situtated in a central zone, is clean and minimal in the furniture. There just one restroom for all rooms but its clean. The breakfast its just a cup of hot drink from the automatic machine,a croissant and a little bread with jam. But the relationship between price and quality is good.
