Enjoyed the elevator, good bed and AC, and breakfast they provided. Can't beat the location facing right on Piazza della Republica, and all the sights a short distance in any direction. Area is great after dark or for getting an early start in the morning. Highly recommend.

Hotel Olimpia is located in the center of everything. You can walk anywhere, no need for cab or bus. We walked from the train station to the hotel in about 15 minutes. The room was clean and the breakfast was the best we had in all of Italy. The only thing I didn't like is that the room is outdated. It's appearance is not very appealing to the eye. Also the bathroom shower is not partitioned off, therefore everything gets wet including the toilet. On the bright side the hotel has one of the fastest elevators, we didn't wait much for it. The windows have to be closed if you expect to get any sleep, also if planning to stay here request a room far from the breakfast area otherwise be prepared to get woken up very early :)

Ideal central location. Small and friendly hotel. We stayed for six nights. The only problem anyone could have is the lift is small and cramped but perfectly alright for our party of four. We had a great time in Florence and the Hotel Olimpia ticked all our boxes.

Location! Could not have asked for anything better! Right on the square, with music and restaurants at your fingertips! One block from the Duome. Clean and tidy room, though tiny bathroom. Good breakfast. Wonderful stay! Close to everything and more!

Very big rooms. Lots of space and the location overlooks the square which is an action packed place with lots of people walking, eating, bands playing music everynight. So if you are looking for quiet then this is not the place. Bathrooms and the elevator are the only drawbacks. Bathrooms are very bad. The shower is fitted over the toilet with no barrier or enclosure. When you shower, the whole bathroom gets wet (Interesting! LOL) and the space is very cramped. Next is the elevator. Its an interesting one, with a gate and a door that you have to manually close before being able to use it. It feels so flimsy that the first time you use it, you will be crossing your fingers. Other than that, its in a great location. 5 min taxi ride from the train station. Can be walked as we did with light bags.

The location was great. Walking distance to the Duomo, Uffizi, Accademia, Ponte Vecchio and shopping areas. About a 15 minute walk from the train station. Our room overlooked the lively Piazza della Repubblica. The new windows kept our room quiet. Our family room had a double bed and 2 twin beds. The room was clean with basic 60's furnishings. The breakfast room was bright with views of the Duomo above the roof tops. Breakfast selection was adequate with an assortment of pastries, yogurt, juices and hot beverages (self serve from a beverage machine). On the negative side the hotel was hard to find. We found the building with a Hotel Olimpia plaque on the facade at eye level but once in the lobby there was no signage indicating that the hotel occuppied the top two floors in the 5 storey building. There is an elevator. The decor in the room was drab. The bathroom was very outdated and small. There is mildew in the tile grout. The shower floor was common with the bathroom floor. You had to step through the shower to get to the toilet and bidet. Once someone took a shower you would have to put your shoes on to use the toilet or your socks would get wet. We didn't spend a lot of time in the hotel so the amenities were satisfactory. A relativey inexpensive hotel, centrally located with an adequate breakfast was what we wanted.

It was the first time for me in Florence, but the place is really nice. The view from Piazzale Michelangelo..like a dream! The location of the hotel is very good, we found it easy with the map. It is an old building, but the price/quality rate is good, the emplyees very polite and kind. The bathroom was too small.

The hotel is in an ideal location for a short stay in Florence. Everything is in easy walking distance and we found the room to be clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and breakfast was plentiful. Having read previous reviews, we had advance warning that the entrance to the hotel might be difficult to find. Better signposting near the main door on the ground floor would help. The main drawback was the lack of a proper shower space in the tiny bathroom. Everything was crammed in with little room to hang clothes or towels - not too much of an issue for a couple of days' sightseeing but a minus point for longer stays. On the whole, we had a very enjoyable time.

I traveled with a friend & we stayed in a 2 twin bed size room. The beds were filled with bugs - we both got rashes even though we were clothed head-to-toe. The bathroom was dirty & there was black hair on the bathroom floor. The shower we had in our room was much worse than the picture showed on the site. The toilet floor was part of the shower floor. If you sat on the toilet, your feet were 3/4 over the shower area. I took pictures of the bathroom because I knew that nobody would believe our story of how bad this bathroom was. This coming from a well traveled person who's been all over the world & been in all kinds of conditions.

Location is this hotel's strongest attribute. Our room faced right onto Repubblica Square, very nice. The room was also quite large, another plus. When we arrived we met a girl named, Manuela. She is great! She immediately helped us with restaurant recommendations and tour booking/advice. She called the museums for us as well. Unfortunately, I hardly slept that night, not because of the square below, but because of the noisiness inside the hotel. The rest of our stay we used earplugs to sleep. As I said before the room was spacious, but the bathroom...a different story completely. Granted I wasn't expecting the Ritz by any means, but sharing a corner with your toilet, bidet and shower? That was a bit much. Because please keep in mind, there is no actual "shower." You get a shower head and a drain in a corner about 6 inches away from the toilet and bidet with nothing more than a dirty shower curtain to separate them all. Weird to say the least. Manuela wasn't there the following days and that was a pity. The other two gentlemen weren't nearly as friendly or helpful. So to wrap it up, great hotel if you're going for nothing more than the location, but in Florence everything is so close its hard not to have a great location. I would spring for a place with a bathroom a little bigger than your kitchen pantry, but hey, that's just me. ;)

The only problem is that the hotel is in the middle of the most crowded place in Florence - between Cathedral and Ponte Vecchio. People sing, laugh all the night (esp. at Saturday). But when you take a look from the window or walk around and breath the atmosphere of Florence this problem goes away. The most important advantage: employees are very friendly and helpful. Thank you. BTW. it is not too easy to reach the hotel - when you're first time there it is not obvious that you should enter the lift and go to the 4th floor :) - no clear indicators.

We found this place very easily from the train station. (It was about a 10 minute walk.) It is right on a large square and very conveniently located for site seeing. Unfortunately the toilet that when you flushed it, leaked water from the bowl onto the floor and the jack hammering that was in the next room over that started Saturday morning at 8:00AM, were both major detractors. This room was affordable, so I wasn't expecting a palace, but the bathroom that doubled as a shower, and the moderately disinterested staff made this the kind of place I'd only suggest if saving money was your only concern.

We arrived in Fierenze by car. Although the place of the hotel Olimpia was indicated in map, it was very difficult to get there due to many, many one-way streets, road works, bus-only lanes and pedestrian areas. A map with an indicated access way to the hotel would be fine. The road signs indicating the way the the hotel was in our case not very helpful, because of incompleteness.

The manager was nice, but there was another person who checked us in and he knew Nothing about service!!! Kept talking on the phone to a friend about casual chit-chat while we waited tired and hungry to be checked in! Very unfriendly and unhelpful, not willing to go an ounce over bare necessary. Location was Great. Room was ok, the bathrooms were HORRIBLE!! Mould on the bathroom tiles! Makeshift shower!Just a terrible bathroom. I thought this was a 3 star hotel! Rest of the staff was nice, but when we checked in it was a disaster and that stays with you. I would definitely pick another hotel next time I'm there. This was the worst hotel experience of the major cities we stayed in Italy.

We loved our stay at the Olimpia. As others have said, the location just can't be beat. 5 minutes walk to just about every major attraction in town. We were in room #7 - no difficulty with noise at night, but perhaps that's because our room didn't face directly out onto the Piazza de la Repubblica. Big room, yes the bathroom was a little strange as others have mentioned, but it worked out just fine. Decent breakfast, **incredibly** helpful staff - they were OUTSTANDING!!. The only real struggle we had was getting to the hotel by car. Having a car in Florence is a real liability - would NOT recommend it! The parking garage the Olimpia works with is very helpful (they came and picked us up when we got stranded in the vast maze of 1-way streets and bus-only lanes) but parking is expensive (24 euro per night). Would absolutely stay here again - with such a courteous, professional staff, comfortable rooms, and again, outstanding location, what more can you ask for?

The bathroom was very small and whenever you had a shower, the floor was flooded and you had to go through water. Staff was friendly. The hotel is vrey hard to find if you dare entering Florence by car. We needed 1 hour! Actually you are not allowed to drive on Piazza della Repubblicca. It should be a notice in the hotel's description that for a short time (unloading your luggage) you may park in front of the hotel. The garage is not at the hotel, the car is taken away by a hotel's employee to a public garage about 20 minutes away!

Olympia was exactly what we were prepared for. It remonded me of what italian hotels used to be like in the 60's and 70's. A little bit tired, not very quiet but cheap and cheerful. The location was excellent making it very easy to take very little with us during our tours of Florence. You were never more than 5-10 mins walk from the hotel. The building next door to the Olimpia was being renovated when we were there so we were woken each morning at 8am by an almost comedy amount of noise but we didn't mind. We were too eager to explore Florence to let this spoil our stay. Overall, i would say its the best value hotel for location vs price. Anything else in the centre would be from €180+ a night. V. happy.

Very good located small hotel in the heart of Florence. Very friendly and helpfull employees, nice rooms. We stayed there for three nichts and it is ideal for evey sight-seeing - just two minutes by foot. Really recommandable!!!! Better not arrive with car-there are no parking facilities around. The hotel offers in cooperation with a public garage parking service. This is very comfortable, but expensive! And don`t think about-there is no cheaper garage in Florenz.

We were excited to be in Florence. Our hotel looked great from the outside. It was a bit confusing, we registered on the third floor and were told our room was on the fourth floor. After walking around for quite some time(the rooms weren't numbered very clearly) we entered our room and were immediately disappointed! The beautiful picture we were shown on line was a far cry from the bleak room we were standing in. The room resembled a bare retreat room: stark white walls(15 feet tall), 2 tiny pictures hung on the huge walls, one tiny window was at the end of the rectangular room(it had shutters that wouldn't stay open so the room had no outside light coming in at all). The worst part of all was the bathroom. I had been warned about the small size but no one could have prepared me for the mold! Yes mold was on the shower curtain and the floor and walls. I proceeded back to the registration desk and I realized I was up against a brick wall. The staff was not helpful in either refunding our money or in giving us another room. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Our memories of Florence are certainly not the fondest part of our trip throughout Italy.

The Olimpia is very convenient in location - we were able to walk everywhere within Florence that we wanted to. The bathroom was actually a big shower - the entire floor flooded when you took a shower, and the room was very cramped, but it was a private bath. There was no area we could bring a bottle of wine and sit and relax - we had to do that in our room and the room was extremely small, just room for a bed, 2 nightstands, a wardrobe and a small desk & chair. We did end up with the smallest room in the hotel, though, so there were more spacious rooms, but we did not know to ask and see if they would cost more, etc. Overall, our stay was ok but if we visit Florence again we will look for another hotel.

I was prepared for the "corner of the bathroom" shower from other reviews, but I was not prepared for the EXTREME sparceness of the hotel. I expect A LOT more of a three star hotel charging me 100 euros a night. The lighting in the room was terrible--only a flourescent light and two tiny lamps (there was a third lamp on the desk but no plug to plug it into...). The television kept turning itself off. It was also very cold because the ceiling in very high and it is apparently against the law to turn the heat on before November in Italy...so if you are going in October beware. (There are extra blankets in the "closet" though.) There is no space to unpack--no drawers or hangers. If I had not been the only person in this room--and therefore able to leave my stuff lying on the second bed and all over the desk it would not have been pleasant. It was, however, a GREAT location (if slightly confusing at first since the reception is on the top floor of the building). And lastly, whoever said breakfast was excellent clearly doesn't know what breakfast should involve. If all you want to eat is a piece of bread and pre-packaged croissants with coffee you'll be fine, but if you are expecting more you will be dissapointed. Water was not even served. Bottles had to be purchashed. In conclusion, if you could care less about ammenities and just want a great location this is a good bet, but if you are looking for a little comfort you are defintely going to walk out of there feeling like you definetly overpaid.

Hotel entrance hard to find as the hotel is on the fourth floor, accessed by a very quaint lift, above restaurants etc but the location and views are first class. Staff welcoming and friendly. If you are looking to be in the heart of things, the Olimpia is a great location. Don't be daunted by the shower as the entire bathroom becomes the shower stall which makes two simultaneous users impossible, enjoy how close you are to everything. I suggest you book the room without the breakfast (though it was okay) as there are excellent breakfast choices just across the piazza and on your way to the Uffizi.

Our 3 day stay at Olimpia was one of the highlights of our one month European trip. The room was clean and spacious with a view of the busy streets below. Very central. We had a quad room for ourselves and our 2 daughters. It provided a king size bed for us and 2 twin beds for our girls. This was so much better than 2 doubles, it gave them plenty of room to themselves and avoided a few fights, I think! The elevator was tiny, but adorably "Italian", if you know what I mean. The room was not terribly glamourous but perfect for our needs.A nice size and the location of the hotel itself was GREAT, could not have been better.

We only stayed here one night and the weather was bad while we were in Florence. The main reason I highly recommend this hotel is location, location, location! It is near everything (all the main sights)! The no- frills bedroom and the small bathroom were clean and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom had a shower that is just part of the room with a shower curtain. A little messy but adequate, given the location of this hotel. The price was high, given the quality of the room, but Florence is an expensive city.

The room was clean and the staff was VERY friendly and helpful. The location was unbeatable. My only complaints are 1) the entire bathroom becomes the shower area leaving a very wet mess when you need to dry your hair, brush your teeth, etc. after you shower, and 2) although the room was fairly quiet, I could still hear various people outside at times and the man snoring in the room across from our room.

Olimpia is in a central location, safe, convenient, noisy if your room is facing the street, but the noise comes from crowd that hangs around the plaza and beats their obnoxious drums til midnight. I got the back room so it was dead quiet. My room was very clean. Breakfast was more enough, dont be looking for american breakfast. It's no diferent from other small hotels. Great place to stay specially if you're in FLorence just to shop due to its location, but everything, shops, major sites, restaurants are all closeby. I would stay again at Olimpia. The location of this hotel is pefection. It is within walking distance of all the major sites we wanted to see and was situated in the same square as the Savoy Hotel!! It is literally 3 minutes to the Duomo, 5 minutes to the main square and 8 minutes to Michelangelo's statue of David. The hotel its self is based on the 3rd floor (upwards) with the reception being on the 4th floor. We paid 330 euro's for a double room for 3 nights bed and breakfast. There were two cafe resturant's directly outside the entrance which were very convienent. The only critism I would have (but this is easily offset by the location of this place) is it was fairly noisy in terms of other people i.e. you could hear door closing etc during the night (however we were there at the weekend). If you plan to go upto the Duomo or see Michelangelo's David I would recommend you do these activies first thing in the morning to avoid queing. And with the Duomo when you climb to the top the last section is two way traffic i.e. poeple going up need to pass people coming down and its very very pokey (we did this early morning when there was very few people and slowed us right down!). One last point here about the Duomo is if you do decide to climb to the top (on your ascention) when you get the chance to walk around the 2nd level to see the ceiling close up dont take it as this directs you back downwards (and its difficult to get back up again - without passing lots of tutting people). After you have climbed to the top you descend this way down so you will see this part then.

The hotel is perfictly located in the middle of the old section of Florance, within easy walking to all the major site. However this is also its dark side, in that Florance is a city that never sleeps and there were parties every night until 1:00 in the plaza in front of the hotel. Also don't expect to take long showers, the bathrooms are very small, even on European standards, and there was no place to place a bar of soap while showering.

Hotel was basic but in a great location. If you have a car you are only allowed in the city at certain times and you have to store the car in a garage which cost 21 Euros per night.

This is a great hotel right in the middle of Florence. The old historical part of Florence is quite small. The hotel is located right in the middle of everything - its really near to the Cathedral, train station, Uffizi, Gallerie Dell'Accademia, various churches and other museums. An ideal place to stay in Florence. The hotel is on the 4th floor of a building but there is a lift up to it. There aren't really any communal public rooms in the hotel - no lobby area or bar. The breakfast room is nice - overlooking the square. The room I stayed in was large - twin beds. The bathroom was tiny, no bath just a shower, toilet, bidet and sink. There was no separate shower tray in the bathroom - so it was a kind of a wet room but with a shower curtain so most of the room except for parts of the floor stayed dry. There isn't realy anywhere to put your toiletries while showering though. All in all I'd recommend this place and definitely stay there again. Just a little tip - if you want to see Michelangelo's David or go to the Uffizi gallery then the queues are massive (that's where all the tour groups go), its advisable to book a few days in advance - +39 055 294 883 (they speak good english)- it will cost an extra €3 but it beats queueing for 4 hours or not being able to get in at all. For the Galleria Dell'Accademia this will allow you to go straight to the top of the queue and straight in. For the Uffizi this will let you queue with a load of other people who have all booked for the same time - then the group are let in together to go through security etc.

The hotel is very centrally located, which makes it easy to get to the places of interest. The breakfast was a bare minimum and not as good as I have had it at hotels at the same level in Rome.

Right at the piazza dei republica, what can you ask for ? The prize is proportional to the location, without being exagerated. Staff is helpfull. Breakfast is average but complementary. Rooms are OK, clean but a little old. Very close to all major attractions in the town center.

Great Hotel. The guy that is there at night, did not know English, but made a very good and friendly effort, which I appreciated. We managed to understand, after a lot of laughs, where to park the car, to be picked up by the Parking Lot Driver (the Parking they work with). After the horror of driving in (old) Firenze, we thought 25 Euro a night is well worth it. The staff is very polite and friendly, knows English, and very helpfull in tourist info. The Hotel is located on the top 2 floors of a building at the Piazza Della Republica, which is an excellent spot. The Room was big, clean, with one King Size bed, and two single beds - perfect for us. The A/C worked well - we had to turn it off when it became too cold, while outside was very hot. Breakfast was plentiful, and good. All said, this is an excellent choice for a hotel in Firenze, and if we're lucky enough to come again - we'd like to stay here again.

This was without doubt the best place to stay in florence. If you want to be in the heart of everything and truely soak up the lifestyle and culture. Ok so the bathrooms are a bit small and the shower shoots water everywhere so what, the whole point of this hotel is to provide you with an excellent base for your holiday and it does that with ease. The breakfast is typical italian fare so if you are expecting bacon and eggs go down the lift turn left and visit one of the many places that do american breakfasts. The rooms were cleaned every day without fail, all of the staff were really friendly and most could speak english, but please for the love of god could you at least learn the basic polite italian phrases, it will truely enhance your holiday.

Based on location of the property, the price was good. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Although the hotel is old and not "upscale" at all; I would recommend this hotel for a stay in Florence.

The staff were very nice and welcoming. We were 4 in a room with two teenage boys and the room size was great. The only thing that needs improvment is the shower, it was the slowest shower, but the bathroom was still very clean. The location of the place could not have been any better. 2 minutes walking from shopping, 5 minutes to the Uffizi and across the street from the "Nordstrom" of florence. Downstairs from the hotel 2 cafe's and an ATM machine accross the street. Overall we were very happy with the Olimpia.

We had greater expectations than reality. Though probably a good value for the price -- and the location was EXCELLENT -- we were under-whelmed and moved to a different hotel after dinner the first night. We ended up paying 150E but were thrilled with the hotel we changed to and it was only a couple of blocks away and so also well located.

You couldn't choose a better location in Florence! Olimpia is on Piazza de la Republica in the heart of Historical Florence. The rooms was spacious and we could see the Duomo from our window. The employees were courteous, warm, and helpful. Some of the services we appreciated included wake up calls, pleanty of bath linen and extra blankets, a great breakfast, arrangements for parking (they pick up your car from the hotel and bring it back whenever you need it), area information, and maps. The employees were always smiling. We could walk to all the famous sites and stop at our room whenever we wanted to take a rest or needed something from the room. Even though is located in the heart of the city, the room was not noisy. I recommend this facilities if you are staying in Florence!

Great location. Only thing I would change is requesting a room that looked out, my room looked out on an internal courtyard.

Brilliant position for seeing all the sights and feeling part of the city. Very friendly and helpful staff. Substantial breakfast. Nice touches like in-room safe (no charge). Double-glazed windows to keep out street noise. Not cheap, but value for money.

The hotle's location makes it an excellent choice when in Florence. The rooms were comfortable although the main lighting was florescent which is annoying and the shower was very cramped. The included breakfast was reasonable.
