Room was quite large and located very well to access the city. Only the decor was very old and drab however, it was clean and comfortable.

Great location--convenient to train station as well as sites; trattorias and internet cafes right outside the door. Hotel was exactly what we expected given our price range, although breakfast was more limited than other hotels we'd stayed at. Front desk controlled room temperature when we asked, but we do wish we'd been told this upon check-in. Street noise was loud, but with AC running, that didn't keep us from sleeping well. Staff was very friendly!

We really enjoyed our stay at Nuova Italia. The hotel was clean, the staff was very nice, the reception desk was open 24hrs, the breakfast was great. We traveled all over Italy and this was our favorite hotel. The location was great and close to everything including the train station. The hotel room wasn't big and the bathroom was small as well but that is what we expected in Europe. The room was very clean though and the bathroom as well. The bathroom fan was a little loud when we turned it on but that was't a big deal in comparison to everyhting else. We would definately saty there again and recommend this hotel.

Bed bugs in the room and we are still battling with the rashes. The room at Nuova Italia did appear clean, the staff seemed helpful but there were bed bugs that I killed- I showed them the bloody evidence on the sheets. After that, they acknowledged and offered to transfer us to a different hotel. They still charged us the whole amount and transferred us to hotel Boston- which was worse! Our assigned room in hotel Boston stunk like the central sewer. Stay away at all costs from these hotels even if you have to shell a couple of bucks more.

The rooms were very small and the bathroom even smaller. Everything was very clean and current, not worn or old. The location was excellent. For the price, perhaps its average but the smallness of the room made me think it should be somewhat cheaper.

Excellent location for rail travelers - only 5 minutes from station (but just a bit south of where the map indicated it would be). Several nice small restaurants are within a few minutes walk. Major attractions were 15-20 minutes away via a comfortable walk through interesting areas of town. Clean, comfortable, but small room was adequate for 2 persons, as was the smallish bathroom (1 there at a time). Our second floor room was very quiet, with windows opening to a small rear courtyard with no view, but offering a nice breeze. Breakfast was modest (rolls, cereal, coffee, juice) but adequate. Staff was very helpful with directions and recommendations.

Hotel Nuova Italia was a great value for the price. It's located right around the corner from the San Lorenzo market, and is close (but not too close) to the train station. We got a room that was larger than we had expected. The rooms clearly havn't been redecorated since the 1960s (except for the newer bathrooms), but they are kept quite clean. The innkeepers are warm and chatty, and were especially kind when I got sick halfway through our stay. They are happy to book reservations for you at all the major museums. It's an unpretentious and homey place. Don't go there expecting luxury, but it's a welcoming place to come back to after exploring Florence all day. Note that there is major construction on Via Faenza until October 2008. It didn't hamper our visit there. However, it's a little harder to walk on the street (if you have mobility concerns) and no cars are driving down it.

The people at this hotel are wonderful--very friendly and helpful. Rooms are small and a bit dingy but adequate. It is in the process of being rennovated. Air conditioning is controlled at the front desk--you have to make a request to have it turned on and off.

One of the two rooms we got was on ground-floor, which actually was semi-basement, so you cannot open the windows. The smell in rooms was not pleasant. Very noisy at night and in early morning. No lift. The kinds of food at breakfast were really limited. Not worth the price we paid.

The daytime staff was helpfull and spoke fluent english. They also helped us in securing side trips to the Tuscan area. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Good value and friendly staff. However the evening staff did not speak very little english.

The hotel has a perfect location - just a few steps to Duomo and to the railway and bus stations. The staff is nice and helpful. I was surprised with breakfast-very poor in comparison to other hotels of this kind I used to stay at. My room was very noisy, without access to sun, there were also some flying insects on the wall. That is why I think the relationship between price and quality is quite low.

Double room for my wife and I. Located close to the train station. Fifteen minute walk to the river. Five to ten minute walk to the Duomo. The staff was excellent. The made reservations for us to visit the Accademia and the Uffizi. There also is a travel agency less than a block from the hotel that will issue train tickets (no additional fee) and exchange money. They speak excellent English.

We liked Nuova Italia very much. The staff was great. Very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was OK, served in a cheery room. Excellent sound-proof windows blocked most of the early-morning noise from the street below. Be sure to pay a visit to Mercato Centrale - just around the corner.

Great hotel, wonderful staff, good breakfast. The only issue was that we were not advised by Venere that the airconditioning would cost an additional $8 per night. This is on top of the $100 per night rate.

This is the best value hotel we have stayed at in Florence. Its walking distance from the train station and close to all the main sites. The Hotel has been given a fresh makeover recently and it has a fresh appearance. The breakfast was very good and much more than the basic that you would expect from a hotel of this rating. Highly recommended!

The location of this hotel is brilliant, close to the station and the market and town centre. The proprietor and his daughter are very friendly and warm. The breakfast was very simple, but being in the centre, no problem getting food/drinks.Only one snag (which will soon be rectified, we were told): there is no lift! Next time we are in Florence, we will definitely go back!!

This review actually applies to Hotel Boston and Nuova Italia because when we arrived at Hotel Nuova Italia, they stated that Venere messed up and our two rooms were not available. Venere should have emailed us about the change, they said. We were then directed to walk to Hotel Boston in Florence, where they had rooms waiting for us. This was fine, but no e-mail was received for this change. Hotel Boston honored our price from Nuova Italia, but when it came time to check out, they wouldn't accept our credit card, even though they had stickers showing that they would. But, we refused to pay cash...as they wanted 740 Euros right then! We told them we would pay Nuova Italia with our card. That's what we ended up doing, but just so Venere knows, I think Nuova Italia is doing some shady backdoor deals with other hotels and then blaming you when it inconveniences guests. I lived in Italy for awhile and know how some Italians can work. At any rate, I wouldn't recommend Nuova Italia or Hotel Boston just because of all that is mentioned here. The rooms at Hotel Boston worked fine, but the A/C they claim, isn't really A/C, it's more like a swamp cooler of sorts, and our's leaked all over the floor. The back patio area was nice though.

We had a great stay here the hotel is run by family and they are all really friendly and help full. Breakfast was limited but good quality with great coffee. We will definately be returning to this hotel in the future. A must visit is the local market hall just around the corner with great fresh produce.

The location of this hotel is perfect...we were able to walk to everything. The reception was very friendly and welcoming, and their English excellent. The room was very nice with a huge comfortable bed. The bathroom was clean and worked well, the shower was the Italian type - not separate, just a tile floor with a drain and a curtain to partition off that part of the bathroom. I had no problem with it. The price for the quality and location was a great deal. I hope this review helps!

Hotel Nuova Italia is a good central location near San Lorenzo market and not far from train station. Rooms were good size. Our party had 2 rooms, one of which was on a lower-level corner and I'm told it had a lot of outside street noise in the early morning. Breakfast, especially cappucini and sweet croissants, was good.

Stay was ok, the only disappointment was the unbelievable bad smell in the room. I felt as if I were in a smokehouse, you could hang up sausages. They should air the room more often if smokers leave the hotel.

The room was on the ground floor with rubbish disposal and a cleaning staff utility room next to it - this presumably accounted for noise beginning around 5am. Otherwise very friendly staff - would use it again (but not the same room).

The hotel was very hard to fine, in fact we got lucky finding it. THere were a lot of steps as we were on the 3rd floor. The staff was great, the rooms good, the parking garage was too small. I put scratches down the side of my rental car trying to drive it in. The street is very small also. I would stay there again if I went to Florence but park elsewhere.

This hotel is located very near the market and within 10 minutes walk of most of the major sights. The breakfast is fresh rolls, jam, juice, and coffee made to order served at your table in the dining area. The rooms are clean and plumbing modern but the showers are such that there is no stall, just a curtain to section off part of the bathroom. This took some getting used to. The windows are triple glazed but the rumble of the market carts going by in the morning ad evening is audible. Although no voices penetrated the walls the sound of slamming doors is apparent when guests enter or leave their rooms. This seems to be acharacteristic of most of the hotels I visited in Europe. The hotel is owner operated and they are very friendly and accommodating and speak fluent English. This hotel is good value and well located. I would stay here again although I would reccommend earplugs for those who want to sleep late. Ask about the discount for payment in cash.

This is an excellent hotel! Rated as a 2-star, it is everything one would ask for -- I would not have been disappointed if it had been rated 3-star. The staff were fluent in English and extremely helpful and friendly, even letting us camp in their breakfast room in the afternoon with a bottle of wine and allowing us to commandeer their glasses. The rooms were extremely clean and well maintained; the mattresses were also excellent. The airconditioning was more than adequate, even during unseasonable weather. Despite the proximity of the markets, the noise level was quite low, due to very good windows. It is near the Mercado Centrale and Mercado San Lorenzo markets; and interesting location. It is also quite near the railroad station (a plus only if you're arriving by train) and within walking distance of all of the major sites. IT took us less than half an hour to get to the Pitti Palace (and of course making numerous shop window pauses along the way). All in all, an excellent hotel -- we'd gladly go there again.

When reviewing the website, we did not notice the "no elevator" and hence had to haul two large heavy suitcases (with travel necessities for 1 month's travel) up two flights of stairs for a 2 day stay - if we knew in advance we would have packed our requirements for the two days in a foldup carry on. The parking arrangements were good; as soon as the hotel called the garage attendant promptly came and picked up the car - parking cost was $22 Euros per day. The reception people spoke English quite well so were helpful and accurate in assistance esp for restaurant suggestions and directions. The bathroom was a little small and we showered over the bidet and toilet.

There seemed to be significant street noise, which was a bit surprising, for a Sunday morning. But other than that, it was a pleasant environment. Florence is o small that everything is convenient, but this place is especially convenient, just three minutes from the train station, and three minutes from the Capella Medici.
