A good quality affordable hotel. Location is excellent---close enough to all local sites and train station that you could stop back in the middle of your day to re-charge and continue on. They made the best cappuccino that we had in Italy!!!

Really nice staff. Large room. A little loud on the street side but the windows really blocked the noise. Nice breakfast. Bed was a little hard and kept us up a little at night. Close to train station which was great for us, 2 day trips out of 4 days in Florence. Walking distance to all Florence sights. Close to restaurants, stores and Mercato Centrale which is a great place to grab a local meal.

Good little hotel, staff fluent in English, very short walk from the rail/bus station. Excellent position for walking into the main tourist area. Nice little breakfast. The street it is situated in has good resturants, the one on the opposite corner does a tremendous creme caramel/brulle. The hotel will reserve tickets for the art gallerys with no booking fee to be paid. The only draw back we found was the market is only about 100 metres away , stall holders started pulling their stalls out of storage at about seven in the morning, rattling up the cobbled streets to set up. However you dont go to a place like Florence to lie in bed all morning, you need to be up and out to see all the sites, and Florence has many of them !.The hotel does not have a lift for its two floors, this may inconvenience some people. We thoroughly enjoyed the city, all the food was good (even the tripe), and the local people are very nice.

A short 5 minute walk from the railroad station and access to the metro, tour and airport shuttle buses. A 5 minute walk to the Douma. A quaint hotel with lots of small restaurants in the immediate area. 24 hour front desk staff was extremely helpful with direction information and things to see. Breakfast was simple, but very adequete.

I really liked this hotel as it had a nice feel to it. This is an older hotel which is lovingly cared for by the friendly and helpful owners. It's not slick, but everything works and it has a certain style. It may be the best budget option in Florence and I will definitely stay here again.

The first room we were given(#26)had a very foul, burnt smell but the hotel staff was able to move us to another room that was much more pleasant. The hotel is close to the train station and the historic city center. It is also close to the market so you will hear the stalls wheeled across the cobblestone streets.

Nuova Italia was amazing! My partner and I stayed for four nights. The staff are all extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and well kept. There is colorful, funky artwork everywhere. Breakfast was simple and a great way to start a day of sight-seeing. The price was definitely reasonable for the comfort and amenities offered. The only downside is that the hotel is located on a busy street that can be a bit noisy. The street-facing rooms do have noise-blocking windows, which reduce the noise by about 80% and make a huge difference. Wireless internet was included in the price. The connection was fast and glitch-free! The location is within walking distance of the Santa Maria Novella train station, but far enough away so that you're not beset by street vendors every time you leave the hotel. Did I mention that the staff was super friendly? I loved our interactions, which became even more pleasant and personal as the days progressed. I felt welcomed, comfortable and secure during my entire stay at Nuova Italia. I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel, and would definitely stay there again!

Hotel Nuova Italia, as a budget hotel, serves its function: a decent place to stay in a city I enjoy for not a whole lot of cash. It's located about five minutes from the Duomo--a definite plus, as that's a good centralized point in the city to find anything and everything. The staff was friendly and accomodating of my limited Italian skill. My room was adequate and never too noisy given its proximity to the city street. The bathroom is tiny, functional, clean and well-stocked with toiletries. However, be sure to use the shower curtain or the whole bathroom will be flooded. (As an aside: my room had two beds and was worth more euro per night than the agreed rate, though I'd actually only booked a single. Though the hotel charged the agreed rate, do make sure they don't charge extra if this happens after you booked a single via Venere.) Two great upsides: 1.) their breakfast, served by a kind and hardworking staff, fills you up with what you need to get going in the morning. 2.) Their laundry service (at cost) was top-notch...give them your clothing in the morning before 9am and they'll have it washed and dried by the evening. I may return to Hotel Nuova Italia if I'm on a similar tight budget.

Great location--convenient to train station as well as sites; trattorias and internet cafes right outside the door. Hotel was exactly what we expected given our price range, although breakfast was more limited than other hotels we'd stayed at. Front desk controlled room temperature when we asked, but we do wish we'd been told this upon check-in. Street noise was loud, but with AC running, that didn't keep us from sleeping well. Staff was very friendly!

We really enjoyed our stay at Nuova Italia. The hotel was clean, the staff was very nice, the reception desk was open 24hrs, the breakfast was great. We traveled all over Italy and this was our favorite hotel. The location was great and close to everything including the train station. The hotel room wasn't big and the bathroom was small as well but that is what we expected in Europe. The room was very clean though and the bathroom as well. The bathroom fan was a little loud when we turned it on but that was't a big deal in comparison to everyhting else. We would definately saty there again and recommend this hotel.

Bed bugs in the room and we are still battling with the rashes. The room at Nuova Italia did appear clean, the staff seemed helpful but there were bed bugs that I killed- I showed them the bloody evidence on the sheets. After that, they acknowledged and offered to transfer us to a different hotel. They still charged us the whole amount and transferred us to hotel Boston- which was worse! Our assigned room in hotel Boston stunk like the central sewer. Stay away at all costs from these hotels even if you have to shell a couple of bucks more.

Excellent location for rail travelers - only 5 minutes from station (but just a bit south of where the map indicated it would be). Several nice small restaurants are within a few minutes walk. Major attractions were 15-20 minutes away via a comfortable walk through interesting areas of town. Clean, comfortable, but small room was adequate for 2 persons, as was the smallish bathroom (1 there at a time). Our second floor room was very quiet, with windows opening to a small rear courtyard with no view, but offering a nice breeze. Breakfast was modest (rolls, cereal, coffee, juice) but adequate. Staff was very helpful with directions and recommendations.

Hotel Nuova Italia was a great value for the price. It's located right around the corner from the San Lorenzo market, and is close (but not too close) to the train station. We got a room that was larger than we had expected. The rooms clearly havn't been redecorated since the 1960s (except for the newer bathrooms), but they are kept quite clean. The innkeepers are warm and chatty, and were especially kind when I got sick halfway through our stay. They are happy to book reservations for you at all the major museums. It's an unpretentious and homey place. Don't go there expecting luxury, but it's a welcoming place to come back to after exploring Florence all day. Note that there is major construction on Via Faenza until October 2008. It didn't hamper our visit there. However, it's a little harder to walk on the street (if you have mobility concerns) and no cars are driving down it.

The hotel has a perfect location - just a few steps to Duomo and to the railway and bus stations. The staff is nice and helpful. I was surprised with breakfast-very poor in comparison to other hotels of this kind I used to stay at. My room was very noisy, without access to sun, there were also some flying insects on the wall. That is why I think the relationship between price and quality is quite low.

This review actually applies to Hotel Boston and Nuova Italia because when we arrived at Hotel Nuova Italia, they stated that Venere messed up and our two rooms were not available. Venere should have emailed us about the change, they said. We were then directed to walk to Hotel Boston in Florence, where they had rooms waiting for us. This was fine, but no e-mail was received for this change. Hotel Boston honored our price from Nuova Italia, but when it came time to check out, they wouldn't accept our credit card, even though they had stickers showing that they would. But, we refused to pay cash...as they wanted 740 Euros right then! We told them we would pay Nuova Italia with our card. That's what we ended up doing, but just so Venere knows, I think Nuova Italia is doing some shady backdoor deals with other hotels and then blaming you when it inconveniences guests. I lived in Italy for awhile and know how some Italians can work. At any rate, I wouldn't recommend Nuova Italia or Hotel Boston just because of all that is mentioned here. The rooms at Hotel Boston worked fine, but the A/C they claim, isn't really A/C, it's more like a swamp cooler of sorts, and our's leaked all over the floor. The back patio area was nice though.

This hotel is located very near the market and within 10 minutes walk of most of the major sights. The breakfast is fresh rolls, jam, juice, and coffee made to order served at your table in the dining area. The rooms are clean and plumbing modern but the showers are such that there is no stall, just a curtain to section off part of the bathroom. This took some getting used to. The windows are triple glazed but the rumble of the market carts going by in the morning ad evening is audible. Although no voices penetrated the walls the sound of slamming doors is apparent when guests enter or leave their rooms. This seems to be acharacteristic of most of the hotels I visited in Europe. The hotel is owner operated and they are very friendly and accommodating and speak fluent English. This hotel is good value and well located. I would stay here again although I would reccommend earplugs for those who want to sleep late. Ask about the discount for payment in cash.

This is an excellent hotel! Rated as a 2-star, it is everything one would ask for -- I would not have been disappointed if it had been rated 3-star. The staff were fluent in English and extremely helpful and friendly, even letting us camp in their breakfast room in the afternoon with a bottle of wine and allowing us to commandeer their glasses. The rooms were extremely clean and well maintained; the mattresses were also excellent. The airconditioning was more than adequate, even during unseasonable weather. Despite the proximity of the markets, the noise level was quite low, due to very good windows. It is near the Mercado Centrale and Mercado San Lorenzo markets; and interesting location. It is also quite near the railroad station (a plus only if you're arriving by train) and within walking distance of all of the major sites. IT took us less than half an hour to get to the Pitti Palace (and of course making numerous shop window pauses along the way). All in all, an excellent hotel -- we'd gladly go there again.

When reviewing the website, we did not notice the "no elevator" and hence had to haul two large heavy suitcases (with travel necessities for 1 month's travel) up two flights of stairs for a 2 day stay - if we knew in advance we would have packed our requirements for the two days in a foldup carry on. The parking arrangements were good; as soon as the hotel called the garage attendant promptly came and picked up the car - parking cost was $22 Euros per day. The reception people spoke English quite well so were helpful and accurate in assistance esp for restaurant suggestions and directions. The bathroom was a little small and we showered over the bidet and toilet.

Excellent value. Walking distance of train and major sights. Staff very helpful in some ways - for example got our laundry done same day at reasonable price - but not very helpful in choosing restaurants. Reasonable size rooms.

There seemed to be significant street noise, which was a bit surprising, for a Sunday morning. But other than that, it was a pleasant environment. Florence is o small that everything is convenient, but this place is especially convenient, just three minutes from the train station, and three minutes from the Capella Medici.

No need to keep looking. For an enjoyable stay at an affordable price in a favorable location in Florence, you can't do better than the Nuova Italia. What makes this place very special are the owners, who are incredibly warm and welcoming. They have us excellent recommendations on restaurants and other attractions. We highly recommend this hotel.
