Excellent central location, room cleanliness, polite and welcoming staff. The best price-quality rate ever experienced. We went in the dependance hotel, bath was in the room, tiny but extremely clean, beds comfortable. The dependance does not have a lift so i wouldnt suggest this to people who require help with the stairs. Access to the hotel at any time, possibility to leave the luggage in the main hotel reception during the last day after checkout.

Hotel Montreal is a very nice hotel for its range. It's our 3. stay here and if we go back to Firenze, this will be our preferred place to stay. It's rather quiet for such a central placing (near everything), and its nearest neighbour is a wonderfull pizzeria.

At 60 euros per night this must be one of the best deals in Florence. Beautiful, clean rooms, simply but tastefully decorated, very friendly staff. The location is good too, with the hotel very close to the station on a pleasant street (though a little noisy from about 10p until midnight with the nearby bars, though closing the shutters on the window took care of that)and within easy walking distance from the centre. At this price, and in Florence, this is one of the best deals I have ever found anywhere. I would certainly stay there again if I returned to Florence, and I will!

I caught a flu while in Florence and the receptionist at Hotel Elite (there's apparently two hotels under Hotel Montreal -- we stayed at Hotel Elite)was super nice and helpful about my being sick. She directed us to the local pharmacy, helped us find a local doctor and overall was very good during a time when I really needed help. Highly recommended.

It was a simple but very clean room. The breakfast is 4€ per person and it is worth it. The location is also really good: between the train station and the most relevant places to visit. Deffinetly a good price/quality relationship.

Due to a disaster with our flights, we arrived very late to the hotel. While we did let them know, the person on reception was very unfriendly when we arrived and demanded payment up front for a three-night stay in cash. This was somewhat inconvenient and we did think it was a bit insensitive. Thankfully the other staff were very plesant and helpful and for the price this is an excellent hotel in a beautiful city. We certainly would recommend it - just don't arrive late!

Clean and spacious room, good location. This was maybe fifth time in Florence but first at this hotel. Florence in general has become very dirty city during these seven years since my last visit maybe that´s why hotel surroundings were also smelly and dirty. And lots of refugees in that area.

The problems with the dependent room include the following: 1. About two blocks from the main building. 2. No lift!! this is very annoying... 3. No operator, no reception at night or in early morning. My family has no way to call me... 4. No internet. I think travellers should try to book rooms in the main building. There are lift, operator to direct your call, and free internet service. Anyway, the recptionists are very friendly and their instructions are clear, and suggestions are useful. BTW, the map provided by the hotel is rather rough, and traverllers should try to find an information center to find a more detailed map with all streets marked on the map.

Hotel location is close to the Train station, but since Florence is such a tiny city, location does not matter much really. I suggest anyone who stays in Florence focus more on other aspects than on location. The hotel is tiny, there isn't much public space in the main site nor the 2nd site. The room is clean and quiet, should meet the basic need to having a place to sleep, but nothing more. Service is the same deal, just enough to get by. Anyone who wants something beyond bare minimum should try somewhere else.

We stayed here for 5 nights then returned for 3 more after a trip to Venice. The hotel is located in a great spot for exploring Florence. If you request a quiet room they do their best to give you a room away from the street. AC worked GREAT, beds were typical Italian beds, not the most comfortable compared to what we are used to. Overall it was a nice hotel and we would stay there again.

The hotel is conveniently located near the Train Station, and an easy walk into the heart of Florence. The receptionist was so helpful and cheerful. She recommened a wonderful inexpensive restaurant near the hotel for great Tuscan food (Ostaria dei Centopoveri), and allowed us to keep our luggage in the room after checkout until our train departed. The room had 3 beds, 2 twin and 1 double, and was spacious. The room was clean, and the location of the hotel very convenient. The negatives were you had to climb stairs with luggage to get to the lobby, and the TV did not work.

The hotel has been renovated fairly recently with the addition of en suite facilities carved out of bedroom space In our bedroom not enough space had been allocated to the bathroom which was very narrow, and it would have been impossible for an overweight person to get into it, let alone use the loo! For us it was fine and there's not much can be done about it now except knock the wall down and try again! Also we were there on a Saturday night and the noise from the bar just round the corner was pretty bad (with the window closed it was tolerable) Florence is an expensive place but the Montreal on balance gave good value for money, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful

We were only one night in this hotel, but we had quite a bit of luggage. The elevator only went to the 1st floor and it was up 2-3 flights of small stairs after that. We had 3 requirements when choosing a hotel in Florence: 1) near to train station and car rental, 2) relatively inexpensive, 3) clean and quiet. The Hotel Montreal appeared to fit all 3 requirements and we were not disappointed in our choice. The hotel is a short 5 minute walk from the train station and was the same distance to our car rental (for traveling to the Chianti area - you do not want/need a rental for Florence). The hotel met all expectations. The only thing that was a bit disappointing was how small the bathroom was. On the positive side, it was the most comfortable bed/pillows I saw for 2 weeks in 5 different places. The area immediately surrounding the hotel is not what you came to Florence to see. Good news is, you are a 15 minute walk to the Ponte Vecchio, Uffuzi and "old" Florence that you came to see. I would recommend the Hotel for a quick stay in Florence, if longer stay, you may want to upgrade a bit and get closer to the sights. Personnally, I would recommend no more than 2 days in Florence to get the history and art education. Do not try to discover Florence on your own. You must book a tour in order to really appreciate the history and art in the area. Yes it costs more than aimlessly wandering around, but it gives you a much deeper appreciation of what you are seeing. After that, get in a car and spend 4-5 days in Tuscany/Chianti. What a beautiful and relaxing area - of course the wine helps with the relaxing atmosphere.

The Montreal is close to the Rail and Bus stations, so was very convenient for us as rail travellers. We walked to all the city centre sights and took buses to Fiesole and Siena. Accomodation was comfortable though our room (110) was on the small side. Air conditioning was essential - there was little natural ventilation. Breakfast was better than average, though not included in the price. Staff were helpful and friendly. We booked 4 days initially then extended by two days. The price for these two was less than half the first two! I felt the price overall was high for a one star hotel, but the central location meant we were living in historic Florence rather than just visiting it.

The staff was one of the friendliest out of all the hotels I stayed at during my trip. So helpful and willing to go above and beyond. The only bummer was that the internet wasn't always reliable. Although a good price, this place had the feel of being a "flashpackers" rather than a hotel. While there was some sound proofing, the neighbourhood (and some of the hotel clientale) was very noisy and meant earplugs becoming a necessity... The location was convenient (near the train station etc. but a little dodgy at times.

One of the best hotels we experienced in Italy. It is much better than the the one star standard it is given. We had a clean spacious room, but we noticed that some other rooms were not as large. We may have been given a larger room for booking for 6 nights. Ensuite was smallish but modern and clean. Convenient location near the railway station and the tourist information centre. Breakfast was good as was the service. The breakfast area is a bit cramped though. The receptionists spoke fluent English and were helpful. We would stay at the Montreal again without hesitation.

I stayed in the dependency (Hotel Elite) about a block away from the 'mother' Hotel Montreal (which the sites' pics correspond to). It was great! The room was cheerful and clean. The receptionist (Nadya) was so helpful and welcoming. The place was quiet. THe room I had overlooked the street which could be a bit noisy at times but it's a city, you deal. It was air-conditioned, a definite plus. The location was convenient to the train station (without being dodgy) and about a 10 minute walk from the city center. THere was a shower in the room which was great. THe WC was shared but it was clean and never an issue; it was almost like staying in a house with other guests rather than in a hotel. There were only about 10 rooms so not really that stark hotel feel. Very quiet (which of course depends on who is staying there as well). I would absolutely stay there again, especially for the price. I was a woman travelling alone and felt very safe.

We have stayed at the Montreal before so knew what to expect. Having booked a superior room however we were offered room 110 which is so small that there was not space for a wardrobe. We queried this with the front desk and were then offered room 103 which is a triple and spacious. There was no hassle about the change and we only paid for a double.Although the road outside was noisy this room had quadruple glazing so was very quiet. We found the staff friendly and helpful and the breakfast adequate. Anyone with mobility problems should be aware that lift only goes to the first floor. The hotel is situated within easy reach of all major attractions and - if you get the right room - good value for money.

My 12YO daughter and I stayed here for 2 nights. It was easily accessible from the train station which was important to us. The room was clean and the staff friendly. The area was a bit seedy but we didn't hang around after dark so it wasn't a bother to us. There was street noise, however the 2 sets of double glass certainly took the edge off the volume. We had a shared bathroom which did not cause any inconvenience. The restaurant 2-3 doors down (Lion Grotto or something) had very tasty and affordable meals and a large selection. If you are just looking for somewhere to rest your head at an affordable price the Montreal should suit your needs.

I had a single room. The hotel has all its single rooms in facing the street, it can be very noise at night because there is a bar next to it. Sometimes it was still noise like 4 in the morning. In general our stay was ok. The room was clean although a bit on the small side - aside from the bed there is not enough floor space to open 2 suitcases. The internal structure of the hotel is also a bit confusing as the elavator only goes up one floor and then you'll have to go through a maze of corridors to find stairs leading up to the floor higher. The service is ok but the internet access seems to be at too high rate and not sure about the 5 euro deposite for borrowing an adaptor to the power outlet. Having said all that, the room is very quiet being right behind the train station. And the location is excellent.

Montreal could not give us a smokefree room as asked and referred us to their Elite Hotel from the same group just 100 meters up the road. This rating is for Hotel Elite. Hotel is on the first floor, no lift - our room was at the top (3 flights of stairs) outlooking the back yard and overlooking the rooftops. Walking distance from all the historical buildings and sites. About 300 meters from the train station. No breakfast available at Elite but we could arrange breakfast at Montreal which was excellent,4 Euro per person. Leather markets were a shopper's dream and you can bargain the price!

I had a pleasant stay there - I was traveling alone, it was close from the station and quiet enough for me to catch sleep at night. It was a bonus they offer free WiFi access if you have a WiFi-enabled laptop (you have to register for either 1-hr or 12-hr pass at the front desk). My room was very small but enough for me to crash for two nights. Shared bathroom was clean enough, I rarely competed with my neighbors for the bathroom use. If you look for any additional comfort than a decent bed, tv and shared bath, then this is not for you, but if you just need a base for the stroll in town close from the train station, I'd highly recommend - bargain for the price, definitely.

We only stayed one night and looked for a cheaper hotel that was close to the train station as we had a early train out of Florence. The hotel was not the cleanest we came across, but it wasn't a pigsty either. The 7AM wake up call by the trash collectors outside in the alley was not helpful to the quietness rating. There is a bar next door that attracts people until the early AM hours, but the noise from their patrons in the alley surprisingly did not carry up to our room. I can see it being intimidating for foreigners to have to walk past that on a nightly basis though as the crowd spilled well into the street and adjoining alley. The room was on the small side and the bathroom was small as well, but if you are looking for a cheaper hotel that is relatively close to everything this is not a bad choice. We would probably look to stay somewhere else next time, but would not be bothered if we had to stay here again.

Stayed at the Montreal with friends - there room was huge, ours was tiny! Clean and adequate though, and convenient location.

La estancia en este hotel fue perfecta, la relación calidad precio esta por encima de lo que se podría pedir. Muy centrico, y de facil localización. He estado en varios hoteles económicos de Florencia y me quedaría con este. Gracias por una perfecta estancia...

Rooms small but fine for the price. Shared bathroom was big and clean. Simple but nicely decorated for a budget hotel. Nice staff. On request, I could get hot drinking water too. Enjoyed my stay !

Conveniently located less than 200 meters from main train station and central bus station. Close to Florence highlights. Helpful staff, easy to find, good for a transition/travel day or for exploring Florence.

We have stayed for just 1 night. The room was really nicely decorated and comfortable. We took a room with a shared bathroom and although the bathroom was very clean in future I would only book rooms with on-suite bathrooms (personal choice). There is a pub next to the hotel and it was a bit noisy at some stage but not too much to keep you awake all night. For the price and location (very close to train station - 5 minutes walking) I would recommend this hotel.

We really enjoyed our very short stay at the Montreal, after the dreadful ho(s)tel in Rome. The Montreal was a real great place. It is excellently located, we would recommend it and we would stay there again.

Imagine hearing a dinging noise going off every few minutes for hours straight, overhearing arguments in languages you cannot understand at 2 in the morning, having a light shining in through the windows as the curtains were not darkening the room, and having pillows that resembled rocks in their hardness? That is what this room was like. I booked the room four months before my arrival. I did not expect to be given a room by the elevator, an elevator which beeped every time the door was opened or shut, an elevator which was the only means of going upstairs as there was no stairs. I also did not expect to have a public phone, with no booth or anything to quieten it only 2 meters from the room, and to have a room facing the street. I was given the worst room in the place, a room which should be given to people who book at the last minute, or come in and ask for a room. I also expected a double shared bath to be shared between two rooms, not five. To separate it, and make the double mean the amount of people who can stay in the room, it should have been written with a comma between the two to mean two separate items, not together as the lack of a comma suggests. This is the rule for English, and also for Italian. (I teach English, so I asked a co worker who teaches Italian, and she said it was supposed to be there in Italian also to separate it). It should have read: double, shared bath, not double shared bath. It was the worst experience of all the places we stayed in for four weeks, even worse than staying at the youth hostel in Venice. It was quieter in the youth hostel, believe it or not.

A lovely accommodation located around the corner from the bus depot and walking distance to major sites. The inner courtyard room was quiet and the air conditioning was great. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. They directed us to some wonderful restaurants. My sister and I enjoyed the room.

I felt the rooms I booked thru Venere were unusually small, or on top floors, or on streets where the noise was intense. I looked at other rooms for 2 people and they were quite spacious. Do you get the tail end of rooms available?? I found that by booking once there, thru a TI, our rooms were larger, quieter, and just overall nicer and cheaper.
