Very clean and comfortable hotel. However, the elevator only goes to the first floor. If you have a big luggage and got a room on the third floor, you might be in for quite a bit of workout.

We booked a classic double room and ended up with a large spacious room that could probably fit 6 people (it was the most spacious on our trip). The bathroom could have fit another 3. We were obviously delighted by this. Hotel Montreal is located very near the Santa Maria Novella train station and SITA bus terminal, and a short walk to the city center. The staff was friendly and always smiling. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Although the web site says private parking is available it should mention the price which was E20 per day. The room was a little cramped but very clean, with most facilities provided. Less able people should ask for a room on the first floor as access to the other floors is by stairs only. The hotel is in a good location for access to most transport options and is within easy walking distance of the major galleries.

I've been to Florence four times. Elevator only goes up one floor. Then you must drag your luggage up the stairs. It is located next door to a bar. The noise went on until 3AM both nights I was there. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Although it was close to the train station, it was in a seedy area. Bed spread must have been there for 30 years. The hotel did nothing to enhance my stay in that beautiful city. I guess you get what you pay for.

The staff were very friendly and the continental breakfast was adequate. The room itself was a little cramped but was perfectly acceptable as far as comfort. The location was great. Only 2 blocks from the train station so we were able to wheel our luggage over ourselves. We were thrilled to see that they had an elevator.

Florence is now added 2 € per night. (September 2011) This hotel is the staff just good people. I have shared bathroom book, became a room with bathroom. I was fortunate After reviewing the staff was okay. Some rooms are clean! However, because the door of the room light, the noise is pretty. (Sound of the road outside, the sound of neighbors out of) Also, 5 € breakfast been removed from the book is higher than other hotels. Location is very close so easy to move from the station. Price, location, those wishing to travel from simple is recommended!

This is one of my favorite hotels among the 4 that booked in my stay in Italy. It may not be 5-star but I would say my stay was comfortable. Location is also good. It's near the bus stop where you can book your tours and near SMN train station plus the other tourist places. The hotel staff (front desk at least) were all very helpful. They all speak English as well. The rooms we got were both spacious enough. There's airconditioning in all rooms. The toilets are very neat. Plus there's free wifi for customers. I will definitely come back to this hotel if I get to visit Florence again.

The Hotel is located just a street across from the train station. The City of Florence is beautiful and this hotel is at walkable distance to all the major galleries and museums. This hotel is very close to the train station and about a 15 minute walk to the major attractions in Florence. Room was very small but the bathroom was large with a very nice shower. Room was clean. Staff was friendly and everyone we encountered spoke perfect english. Breakfast was horrible and not worth the 4 extra euro per person we had to pay. Hotel is right next to a bar so it was very loud and disturbing in the evenings. I would not stay at this hotel again.

My husband and i were on a vacation to Italy and we chose this hotel for its proximity to SM Novella station. Google maps gave us the wrong location of this hotel and we spent 2 hours scuttling around to locate this place. Please check the maps provided by Venere. The hotel wasnt great. The bathrooms were not very clean and the bathroom door had a big hole in the room we stayed. The only good thing about the hotel was its central location and thank god for its airconditioners were working. Since we needed the room only to crash the nights, we were fine with it. Not worth the cost charged

Rooms expensive for condition. We booked 2 'nice' double rooms for 2 couples, and only got one double and another small 2 single bed room, with no other option available. Only one staff person (the night person) could understand English, so found to difficult to express our concerns.

For the price I paid, I think this is really FANTASTIC. Its a decent single bedroom, everything is available. The staff at the counter can't really speak english but I checked in real late, so maybe the normal staff wasnt around. But he was friendly and was still able to communicate somehow. I recommend this for its price and quality relation. Location to the train station is superb!

We originally booked a superior double room which we stayed in for 2 nights. We decided to come back to the hotel a couple of nights later and booked a standard double room with private bathroom. This was more than sufficient, as the superior room was more than what we needed. The rate is very good and they are very close to the Train and Sita bus station. Within easy walking distance of all the sights and many restaurants just down the road. We had to go to Amalfi Coast from there and had no luck with the Sita bus company to find out what bus to catch from Naples. The receptionist went onto the internet and looked up train timetables and prices for us and then phoned our next hotel to find out where to catch the final bus and where to get off and did not charge us for the phone call or internet time. We will definitely recommend this hotel to anybody.

The hotel is 5 minutes walking from the train station, and its surrounding has quite a few good selections of restaurants. Upon arrival around noon time and the room was not ready. The receiption allowed us to leave our bags at the lobby as well as the day we checked out. Breakfast is not included which I was not awared of so I ended up paying $4 per head for breakfast.

Excellent central location, room cleanliness, polite and welcoming staff. The best price-quality rate ever experienced. We went in the dependance hotel, bath was in the room, tiny but extremely clean, beds comfortable. The dependance does not have a lift so i wouldnt suggest this to people who require help with the stairs. Access to the hotel at any time, possibility to leave the luggage in the main hotel reception during the last day after checkout.

Hotel Montreal is a very nice hotel for its range. It's our 3. stay here and if we go back to Firenze, this will be our preferred place to stay. It's rather quiet for such a central placing (near everything), and its nearest neighbour is a wonderfull pizzeria.

At 60 euros per night this must be one of the best deals in Florence. Beautiful, clean rooms, simply but tastefully decorated, very friendly staff. The location is good too, with the hotel very close to the station on a pleasant street (though a little noisy from about 10p until midnight with the nearby bars, though closing the shutters on the window took care of that)and within easy walking distance from the centre. At this price, and in Florence, this is one of the best deals I have ever found anywhere. I would certainly stay there again if I returned to Florence, and I will!

Due to a disaster with our flights, we arrived very late to the hotel. While we did let them know, the person on reception was very unfriendly when we arrived and demanded payment up front for a three-night stay in cash. This was somewhat inconvenient and we did think it was a bit insensitive. Thankfully the other staff were very plesant and helpful and for the price this is an excellent hotel in a beautiful city. We certainly would recommend it - just don't arrive late!

Clean and spacious room, good location. This was maybe fifth time in Florence but first at this hotel. Florence in general has become very dirty city during these seven years since my last visit maybe that´s why hotel surroundings were also smelly and dirty. And lots of refugees in that area.

The problems with the dependent room include the following: 1. About two blocks from the main building. 2. No lift!! this is very annoying... 3. No operator, no reception at night or in early morning. My family has no way to call me... 4. No internet. I think travellers should try to book rooms in the main building. There are lift, operator to direct your call, and free internet service. Anyway, the recptionists are very friendly and their instructions are clear, and suggestions are useful. BTW, the map provided by the hotel is rather rough, and traverllers should try to find an information center to find a more detailed map with all streets marked on the map.

Hotel location is close to the Train station, but since Florence is such a tiny city, location does not matter much really. I suggest anyone who stays in Florence focus more on other aspects than on location. The hotel is tiny, there isn't much public space in the main site nor the 2nd site. The room is clean and quiet, should meet the basic need to having a place to sleep, but nothing more. Service is the same deal, just enough to get by. Anyone who wants something beyond bare minimum should try somewhere else.

We stayed here for 5 nights then returned for 3 more after a trip to Venice. The hotel is located in a great spot for exploring Florence. If you request a quiet room they do their best to give you a room away from the street. AC worked GREAT, beds were typical Italian beds, not the most comfortable compared to what we are used to. Overall it was a nice hotel and we would stay there again.

The hotel is conveniently located near the Train Station, and an easy walk into the heart of Florence. The receptionist was so helpful and cheerful. She recommened a wonderful inexpensive restaurant near the hotel for great Tuscan food (Ostaria dei Centopoveri), and allowed us to keep our luggage in the room after checkout until our train departed. The room had 3 beds, 2 twin and 1 double, and was spacious. The room was clean, and the location of the hotel very convenient. The negatives were you had to climb stairs with luggage to get to the lobby, and the TV did not work.

The hotel has been renovated fairly recently with the addition of en suite facilities carved out of bedroom space In our bedroom not enough space had been allocated to the bathroom which was very narrow, and it would have been impossible for an overweight person to get into it, let alone use the loo! For us it was fine and there's not much can be done about it now except knock the wall down and try again! Also we were there on a Saturday night and the noise from the bar just round the corner was pretty bad (with the window closed it was tolerable) Florence is an expensive place but the Montreal on balance gave good value for money, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful

We had 3 requirements when choosing a hotel in Florence: 1) near to train station and car rental, 2) relatively inexpensive, 3) clean and quiet. The Hotel Montreal appeared to fit all 3 requirements and we were not disappointed in our choice. The hotel is a short 5 minute walk from the train station and was the same distance to our car rental (for traveling to the Chianti area - you do not want/need a rental for Florence). The hotel met all expectations. The only thing that was a bit disappointing was how small the bathroom was. On the positive side, it was the most comfortable bed/pillows I saw for 2 weeks in 5 different places. The area immediately surrounding the hotel is not what you came to Florence to see. Good news is, you are a 15 minute walk to the Ponte Vecchio, Uffuzi and "old" Florence that you came to see. I would recommend the Hotel for a quick stay in Florence, if longer stay, you may want to upgrade a bit and get closer to the sights. Personnally, I would recommend no more than 2 days in Florence to get the history and art education. Do not try to discover Florence on your own. You must book a tour in order to really appreciate the history and art in the area. Yes it costs more than aimlessly wandering around, but it gives you a much deeper appreciation of what you are seeing. After that, get in a car and spend 4-5 days in Tuscany/Chianti. What a beautiful and relaxing area - of course the wine helps with the relaxing atmosphere.

I was stayed in the independet room, which is a little hotel named "Elite". This is the best hotel I've stayed in Italy(I travelled in Italy for 1 month). The room is big, clean, and the receptionist--Nadya is very helpful. I would recommend it to everyone.

Definitaly the best hotel in Florence if you search a cheap hotel with a good location! We were really satisfied! Air condition is included in the price, rooms are clean and reception helped us in every case. Only thing is that the hotel closes at 2 am. but believe me, after a city tour, you just won't have energy to go out longer ;)

La reserva la hicimos en el Montreal, pero nos alojaron en el ELITE. Un hotel limpio, cómodo, tranquilo. La señora que atiende es extraordinaria. Conoce bien los sitios importantes y da consejos sobre dónde comer bien.

As I was directed to stay at an affiliated hotel 'down the road' the pics and location did not match that on the web pages. That said, the staff member who was sporadically present was very pleasant and helpful and the room was clean and air-conditioned. It is located quite centrally to both transport and attractions. There is an internet point next door and reasonable restuarants and bars quite close by.

Great place for a low price! The rooms were clean, the front desk was very helpful. Overall I rate Hotel Montreal a 10. If you're looking for a place to stay and you're on a budget, this place is for you.

The staff was one of the friendliest out of all the hotels I stayed at during my trip. So helpful and willing to go above and beyond. The only bummer was that the internet wasn't always reliable. Other than that, I would definitely stay here again. Clean and spacious rooms with a rustic Italian feel.

The Montreal is close to the Rail and Bus stations, so was very convenient for us as rail travellers. We walked to all the city centre sights and took buses to Fiesole and Siena. Accomodation was comfortable though our room (110) was on the small side. Air conditioning was essential - there was little natural ventilation. Breakfast was better than average, though not included in the price. Staff were helpful and friendly. We booked 4 days initially then extended by two days. The price for these two was less than half the first two! I felt the price overall was high for a one star hotel, but the central location meant we were living in historic Florence rather than just visiting it.

Although a good price, this place had the feel of being a "flashpackers" rather than a hotel. While there was some sound proofing, the neighbourhood (and some of the hotel clientale) was very noisy and meant earplugs becoming a necessity... The location was convenient (near the train station etc. but a little dodgy at times.

One of the best hotels we experienced in Italy. It is much better than the the one star standard it is given. We had a clean spacious room, but we noticed that some other rooms were not as large. We may have been given a larger room for booking for 6 nights. Ensuite was smallish but modern and clean. Convenient location near the railway station and the tourist information centre. Breakfast was good as was the service. The breakfast area is a bit cramped though. The receptionists spoke fluent English and were helpful. We would stay at the Montreal again without hesitation.

I stayed in the dependency (Hotel Elite) about a block away from the 'mother' Hotel Montreal (which the sites' pics correspond to). It was great! The room was cheerful and clean. The receptionist (Nadya) was so helpful and welcoming. The place was quiet. THe room I had overlooked the street which could be a bit noisy at times but it's a city, you deal. It was air-conditioned, a definite plus. The location was convenient to the train station (without being dodgy) and about a 10 minute walk from the city center. THere was a shower in the room which was great. THe WC was shared but it was clean and never an issue; it was almost like staying in a house with other guests rather than in a hotel. There were only about 10 rooms so not really that stark hotel feel. Very quiet (which of course depends on who is staying there as well). I would absolutely stay there again, especially for the price. I was a woman travelling alone and felt very safe.
