Hotel Montebello Splendid - Florence

For a hotel that claims to be a 5 star property, the service and the staff suck. The AC in my room did not work. When I called Reception, they sent a waiter masquerading as an 'Engineer' to take a look at the AC. He very brusquely told me that the ac was working, and if I felt hot I shouldnt use a blanket at night, which I wasn't given the heat. When I went downstairs to complain, the night manager on duty, Dario, told me I could file a written complaint or check out if I couldn't deal with it. He was rude and threatening. After a pleasant week at the Westin Excelsior in Rome where the staff went out of the way to make us feel at home, this was by far an awful experience in an otherwise magical city. I wouldn't recommend staying at the Montebello Splendid. Dario should be sacked without further ado.

A rather tiny bathroom prevented us from giving a higher mark. The breakfast table was somptuous.

We are very satisfied with our stay at Montebello Splendid. Due to the flight cancellations before christmas 2010, we arrived one night after we had booked, but we were not charged for the night we did not show. Also, we were upgraded to a superior room with no charge. The room was beatiful and spaceous, wonderful bathroom with jacuzzi. The bar area in the hotel is very pleasant, like a beautiful italian livingroom. The staff were all very nice. Staying at Montebello makes you feel like you are a valued guest in a beautiful home. In the restaurant the food is not splendid. It´s ok, but eating out in Florence is more interesting. But the service was exellent. We will return to Montebello Splendid, and would recommend it with all our hearth! If you go there, do remember to end a long day out with a glass of Brunello in the wonderful bar! That is a must at Montebello! And the Bloddy Mary is perfect!

Really had a great stay! We had exactly what we deserve from small luxury hotel: intimacy and friendly staff. Restaurant is a must!

Location is not very central (10 min walking), but is a very quite and safe area. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms are terrific, including the bathrooms. The electronics are a little bit complicated at first sight, but then they work properly Food at the restaurant is excellent, it really worth a visit. Recommended for honeymoon.

A hotel where I will return to. And I do not say this very often!

Splendid is the perfect name for this property. The room, linens, service, technology and decor are terrific. After 2 weeks in various hotels, I was thrilled to be at this property. The river and all major sights are near, but the crowds are not. I recommend Montebello Splendid highly!

Para nosotros el Hotel Montebello Splendid fue excelente en todos los conceptos y servicios:las habitaciones, los desayunos, los servicios y la atención del personal. La situación del Hotel es buena, pues aunque no está en el centro de Florencia, la calidad del Hotel lo compensa ampliamente. Mil gracias al servicio de VENERE¡.

Very nice place, and my first 5-star hotel. The bar was great, although pricey, and the breakfast was good. Location was alright with most sights within walking distance (although 10-15 mins of walking).

I had booked one double room but switched upon arival to 2 single rooms. The rooms were beautiful. The staff was extremely friendly. This hotel is located a block away from the American Embassy or Consulate I'm not sure which and just steps away from the massive amounts of tourists. I would stay here again on my next trip to Florence. Every employee spoke english. Please note I've selected gay couple. I'm gay but was traveling with my Dad. We both had a pleasurable stay.

Great hotel...5 star rooms and service. Staff is amazing....especially the front desk team!! Breakfast buffet is extensive by Italian standards. The only downside is that it is not as central to the tourist sites as other hotels, but far more reasonably priced and just as nice (if not nicer!) than the Savoy. Will definitely stay there again.

I enjoyed my stay at the Montebello hotel very much. As I like walking I did not mind the rather long distance to the main museums. On the other hand the theater is just two blocks away.

This is just a fabulous, beautiful boutique hotel. I would highly recommend it. The price is very good for the quality that you will receive. I will caution you that it is a 10-15 minute walk to the Pont De Vecchio and the Duomo, but the walk is along the Arno River and it is a lovey stroll. This hotel is in a very nice area. They had a dinner special when we were there which was a bottle of wine and a 3 or 4 course dinner at a fixed prix for the first night we were there. The dinner was suprisingly good for hotel food and we had the dinner outside on the patio, not too expensive for a 5-star hotel. The breakfast, included in the price, was excellent.

The hotel was very nice but we were disappointed by how far it is located from the center of the city and proximity to the main attractions. A taxi ride is necessary unless you want to walk a long hike. Also the air conditioner was very loud.

Very nice hotel overall. Beautiful lobby. Breakfast was somewhat below average compared to the 6 other Italian hotels we stayed at during this trip. Hotel is considerably further from the Duomo and the main tourist areas of Florence than is apparent from the maps. Tradeoff is clearly quality versus distance.

Lovely hotel albeit a bit of a walk to the centre of Florence (20 mins leisurely pace). Staff very friendly and helpful. Would recommend but take a full wallet!

A little outside of main area, but very enjoyable.

We found everything about the hotel delightful from the silk lined walls to the welcoming staff, we would certainly make a point of, when we return to Florence, staying again

This is a new hotel with some of the usual problems that there are working out, the staff was good and the location is perfect for any sight seeing.

The room itself was very nice. The public areas are in need of refurbishment{carpet, paint). No one would help us with our bags. The breakfast was 38 Euro!

The staff was very accommodating and it was centrally located where we could walk to almost everything around Florence. If ever I return..and I plan to..I will definitely stay at the Montebello Splendid again and also recommend it to my friends and family.
