Hotel Medici didn't meet my standard at all. Whilst I expected the room to be small, it was very cramped, barely enough room to move in, and the bathroom was a wet room with a shower which was absolutely tiny. There was no air conditioning, but a fan was provided. Having paid for breakfast, we went to be greeted by a sulky staff member who gave us 2 dry bread rolls and some jam. The coffee was awful. We didn't bother going for breakfast on the second day, as it was lacking. I'd rather have not paid for it at all. When we checked out, the receptionist barely even acknowledged us, and said neither Hello or Goodbye in any case. Just rude, unfriendly staff. Having stayed in Florence many times, even studying there, I was surprised at how awful this hotel was. The only good characteristic was the location…though I have stayed at other hotels with as good location, but much better standard for less money.

Hotel is 50m away from the Duomo and their terrasse offers an incredible view, that is true ! The beds are good and comfortable. But the price is very high, the room walls are dirty and probably deserve a fresh paint since 10 years, there was a water leak in the bathroom above ours since probably several weeks as the roof was black, with a big hole in the middle and water drops each time there was some activity above, furnitures are old and worn-out, the breakfast is terrible (awful coffee machine, bread, jam and fruit juice with 99% of water), the environment is noisy (yes, you're 50m away from Duomo !) which could be acceptable if the window would a bit attenuate the sound, but they don't ! As a summary, if you have more time than I had to select an hotel, I'm sure that, with the same budget (quad room 200€/night) you can find one as close to the Duomo as this one but with better services, less noise and a decent breakfast.

We stayed in Florence for 2 nights. The hotel is walking distance from the train station and is 2 minutes from the Duomo. I was a little surprised by this, but we stayed in the other building owned by the hotel in their apartment complex (2 minutes from the official "lobby"). The room was spacious and did resemble an apartment. We had AC here so that was nice. The bathroom was old school but clean so def no complaints. Breakfast was included and served in the main building. One minor issue is that wifi was only available in the lobby/breakfast area so that made it difficult to call home, but could be worked around. We called in the morning at breakfast and most restaurants have wifi if you ask them. Location was excellent, walking distance to all major attractions. Many high end stores around.

Best thing is the location right by il duomo, and the terrace on the 6th floor. The room was basic, but just about okay. Staff on reception were courteous, restaurant staff less so. Breakfast was very basic and thats putting it mildly. The problem was the noise from the surrounding area at night which meant sleep was a challenge to say the least, especially for small kids... Overall I would say that the hotel is best for couples w/o kids who can enjoy the local drinks and sleep through the din!

As a solo oldie travelling through Italy I had my reservations about a hotel so close to the centre of my favourite city Firenze at the price I paid. My three days there were 'perfecto'. Always a bonus to get a double room en-suite when travelling alone - well with bear of course - and this hotel ticked ALL the boxes. Continental breakfast not wide in variety but I'm fine with rolls, butter, jams and crisp bread with unlimited coffee and juice. DO NOT miss going up to the 6th floor and on to the balcony where you will find tables and chairs with a view of the Cuomo to write home about - in fact, if you have time, take a bottle of wine and a glass (paper cup probably) up there and spend an hour or three.

For the price and location the hotel was good. However the room was dull, and on arrival the toilet flush and one of the lights were defective. It took more than 12 hours for them to repair the toilet! I think they have a maintenance problem. Street noise was a problem, as were the Duomo bells at 7am every morning. Breakfast was unsatisfactory. Bread and jam with revolting coffee and juice. My stay was in their low season so prices were low. High season prices would make this hotel a bad deal.

Nice little hotel right in the center of Florence. 5 minutes from the central Station S.M. Novella. Near Taxi Station. Breakfast ok, beautifull view from the breakfastroom on central street of Florence. Nice cosy room. Lots of warm extra blanckets in the wardrobe. It was freezing outside... Bathroom could be better, too small. Staff very kind, they send me back the ipad powerpack, forgotten in the room. The day of check-out, I left my luggage in the hotel untill 6.pm while I attended the rest of my corporate meeting. Very usefull. Lots of small restaurants, bars and hangouts near the hotel... great pizza and great food (check the "dishes of the day") at the nearby Taverna Divina Commedia (Via dei Cimatori, 5)

The room was not actually in the hotel and there was no wireless as advertised. I was given an apartment instead which was about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. I actually liked it better, but some guests might be displeased about the switch and therefore it should be conveyed to them before their arrival. The staff was very nice and the room was cleaned daily.

The location is the only bonus going for this hotel. I suppose the price is relevant to what you get but I still think we paid too much for what we got. I don't know why they bother providing breakfast. The coffee was not drinkable and the breakfast lousy. The room was clean and this counts for a bit but extremely noisy.

I would recommend staying here, however ask for a room away from the main road as the rubbish trucks come through at 4.30am and are extremely loud. The rooms are a little small but for the location and the fact that the place is clean is worth the price. I stayed at another hotel while in Florence just around the corner and definitely preferred this hotel. The wifi is also very fast which was awesome.

We were actually moved into one of the apartments near Hotel Medici that is owned by the hotel and is very nice: mini-kitchen, lofted log-rafter ceiling, a sitting area and in-unit bathroom. The hotel breakfast is a joke (a stale roll with butter and jam) and gross juice and coffee from machines. They need to upgrade it, but in the meantime, go to Roberto Cavalli's Cafe (yes, seriously), for amazing cream-filled croissants and cappucinos. Both Hotel Medici and the apartment, which was two blocks from the hotel, are very centrally located near all the major sites and piazzas. The hotel has wifi but the apartment does not. I'd stay again!

Very unique visit for us. They have a hotel with 6 floors of room but we were placed in an off site apartment. We were about a 5 minute walk from the hotel in a building situated somewhere between the Duomo and the train station. The hotel itself is situated just South of the Duomo. Our off site apartment was great. Spacious, clean, and appealing. I would highly recommend this hotel for your stay. Also they have a roof terrace on the 6th floor of the hotel which has an AMAZING view of the Duomo which you can use as hotel guests until 11 pm. Sorry I cannot elaborate on the main hotel rooms since we didnt stay in one, but I would highly recommend this hotel.

First time in any central hotel in Florence. (Stayed at Camping Michelangelo twice before long time ago.) Went for cental hotel giving simple bed and breakfast at budget price. This is what we got. We were very pleased. At night the street noise goes on a long time. I guess in central Florence this is bound to be so and does not really affect sleep, at least not for me. The bed was very comfortable for us both and we both have 'difficult' backs. I would recommend it and go again. It was lovely sitting on the simple 6th floor veranda with that wonderful view of the cathedral, tower and baptistry.

The location of the hotel it could no be better, you have the Doumo just one street, the Academia about four streets, the Uffizi aslo very near, a lot of restaurants and stores in the souroundings, a great place to stay. The clean is good, no TV on the room but as we were out all the day we dont care, the only bad thing if you could named in that terms, is that as its very close to the Doumo the bells sounds in the mourning are very loud and wake you up, but if you manage to get some ear plugs you will not have any problems, if you want a good view go the terraza at the seven floor.

The hotel is good deal for the money. The view from the roof is so beautiful. I would recomend this hotel to young people or single travellers. The only thing that I did not like was the bathroom. It is very small and the shower is not separated from the rest of the room. So, when you shower, everything gets wet. But the room was cleaned every day, so it did not get wet and dirty. And also, the streets are quite noisy. But who wants to sleep while staying in beautiful Florence? From the hotel you can reach everything by walking. I really loved my Florence vacantion :-)

Absolutely abysmal hotel. Not clean by any standards. No air con so very very noisy when trying to sleep with windows open. Staff indifferent - public area totally lacking in any useful tourist information. The breakfast was the worst I have ever had in 5 visits to Italy as was the hotel generally. If the view of the Duomo is the be all and end all for your stay in Florence then book but if not stay well clear. Staying at an hotel as bad as this could almost put you off Florence and that really takes some doing. Other than being very close to the Duomo and having an impressive view of the same from the rooftop there was absolutely no other redeeming feature whatsoever. Avoid at all costs.

I had a little trouble convincing the guy at the front desk I had reserved two rooms. Other than that they were ver helpful. Decour and furniture is beyond minimalist: a bed, a night table barely able to withstand the weight of a lamp a small desk and a chair. No mirror. The shower was inadequate, measuring some 40 cm by 60 cm. One of our rooms was between the kitchen and the (very ample!) breakfast room, making it impossible to sleep beyond 7 am. Still it is unexpensive and perfectly located a few steps away from the Piaza della Republica. Good option if you are traveling cheap, else its beast avoided.

The Medici offers a great feature, which is what attracted me to this hotel: their rooftop terrace. The city view is breathtaking, the terrace itself is very welcoming with tables and chairs and plants. Very nice. Our room had a window to the street, so it was extremely noise, specially on Sat. night when all the people were out and about until 3-4am. If you are looking for a quiet place to stay, this is not it, but if you don't mind the city noisy. The hotel has an elevator, which is very helpful with the luggage. The room was spacious, bathroom was also large and clean. No t.v. or phone (ok with us!) Overall, very pleasant stay. Location of hotel is great!! close proximity to most mayor attractions.

Roof terrace has huge potential and great view across Florence but untidy & unattractive .... with a clean up and a rooftop bar would be fabulous. Rooms were clean & spacious bathroom compact but serviceable.

Excellent location in the heart of Florence with a fabulous view of the Duomo from the terrace. Although the rooms on the 5th floor were comfortable, during the night there was some noise coming from the HVAC of the building across the street. The food offered for breakfast was limited to bread rolls and jelly. Next time I will be in Florence, I will definitely return to the Hotel and I will recommend it to my friends.

My overall review is good for the Medici Hotel...The things I would like to highlight is that there was no central heating...(there was hot water fortunately) and that towels, linens and duvets provided by the hotel were old and of bad quality. But, the location is so central and helps you to forget all the above small problems.

This is a very reasonable hotel for the price. The room was very basic, but spacious. No TV. Lovely view of the Doumo, while you’re on the toilet! :) There was a very odd shower in that it was just the faucet coming out of the wall - tiles noted the shower “area” but there were no doors or anything. And there was another odd faucet coming out of the wall by the toilet. A European thing that we’re not familiar with perhaps? Our door did not lock properly and the dead lock did not work. We made our own security system out of an empty Bellini bottle. Breakfast was the most basic we had in Europe – 1 roll each, packet of hard toast, American coffee, tea or juice. That’s it. Staff at breakfast was not friendly, but the breakfast room was nice. There is an elevator, location is great! Front desk staff was helpful when we needed them, otherwise they stayed to themselves. Overall, good value for the money. Inexpensive and very basic and best for the low-maintenance traveler.

In reference to the Hotel Medici, we were immediately underwhelmed by the rather cold, smug reception at the front desk. However, other front-desk attendants were incredibly warm and helpful. The breakfast was abysmal: meager, served grudgingly, lacking in general. In fact, I had to go after it in order to be served. The rooftop space is spectacular, however. The room was quite small, understood, but without the recourse of even a television during days of pouring rain, its smallness was claustrophobic and stifling. The surroundings are corporate-commercial, not what one would expect of Florence, just off the Duomo. This is not the hotel's fault, but soured our expectations nevertheless. I would not recommend the place in general, unless you plan to only sleep there, nothing else.

The hotel was fine for our one night stay, but I will mention things that others may want to know. In the lobby and elevator it smelled like sourkraut or sewage. But the rooms did not smell. We had 2 crying babies next to us, walls are thin. There is not a TV in the room and the towels are like tabelcloth material. We joked that it was like a monastary becasue there wasn't much to the room. Staff answered all questions although they weren't always happy to do it. Breakfast was the night before's dinner rolls. But it was clean, safe, and also in an EXCELLENT location within walking distance of everything you would want to see or do.

On holiday in Firenze for 2 nights/3 days, location was much more than expected, room had view overlooking the Duomo & one block from Piazza del Republica, 2 blocks from Uffizi Gallery, Town Square, Ponte Vecchio etc, very central to all tourist spots. Florence streets can sometimes be diffucult for transporting luggage & you can easily get disoriented with directions. Would ALWAYS recommend friends & family to Hotel Medici!

The hotel has been completely refurbished since I was last there four years ago, and they have done a good job. The location, in the city centre near the cathedral, is the outstanding feature. The terrace has superb views. Try to get a 5th or 6th floor room with a cathedral view. The only drawback is that the hotel can be a bit noisy with sounds from the street and from neighbouring buildings.

LA UBICACION ES EXCELENTE. hOTEL TOTALMENTE RENOVADO CON ALGUNOS DESAJUSTES AUN A NIVEL EDILICIO PERO NADA IMPORTANTE. NO MUY BUENA LA ATENCION DURANTE EL DESAYUNO Y ALGUNAS DIFICULTADES CON LOS CERRAMIENTOS POR LOS QUE SE FILTRA EL RUIDO QUE PRODUCE POR LA MAÑANA TEMPRANO DE LA ACTIVIDAD COMERCIAL.

Great location, right of republicana square, 2 blocks to duomo, 2 blocks to point de vechio. Ask for 5 or 6 floor rooms. 6 Floor has balcony and chairs/tables for relaxing. 5 has some private balconies. Great views, great location. Problems with evevator a few times unavailable. Continental breakfast, terrible coffee and mostly bread. Better grab a cappacion on the street.

This was a wonderful hotel in a terrific location with amazing views from the rooftop. The bathrooms were particularly spacious. My only frustration was that the phone in the room didn't work and there were no other phones to use in the building. Overall, an excellent hotel for the price.

It seems to be common practice in Europe to over book the Hotels in convinent locations and then send you over to other one. in our case they send us over another Hotel ( Fenrando de medici) 2 blocks away , with very good location but the original hotel was 2 stars while the one given to us was 1 star.
