The Martelli Hotel, housed in an old palace which belonged to the Medici's, is situated in the historic center of Florence, just a short walk from the Duomo, the Uffizi Gallery, the city's most important museums and from the Santa Maria Novella railway station.
It is believed that Caterina de Medici (1519-1589) slept in room number 47 on her visits to Florence.
Some of the interior spaces, such as the lounges and breakfast room have maintained their original Florentine style with antique furniture and splendid wall frescos, others are instead furnished in a modern style respecting the traditional elegance of the hotel.
The property also offers a baby-sitting service subject to charges. Small dogs are welcome at an extra charge.

Very central location but also very loud neighbourhood. Almost unpossible to sleep with windows open at night. Room with a view directly to the wall of the next house. Sanitary installation in bad shape.

we paid for a 3 person room, the room was very old and simple. Hot water was never hot, we called down to the front desk and they said we need to wait a little for the hot water to come, we waited 20mins with only getting mild warm water, front desk said 'yes, is like that.....' Also i wonder if the heating system was working, room was never really warm, it just didn't get too cold because the room was basically air-tight with no air circulation. the only thing good was the location is 5 mins away from Duomo. But i heard they also have some nicer rooms also, so, depends on ur luck about what they give u, i guess.... For the amount of money paid, i m sure there's something better out there

This was the most expensive room we booked thru Venere on our trip and was the most disappointing. The room looked nothing like the rooms on the web site and needed a makeover. Wallpaper was peeling and fixtures were rusted. The staff was friendly and the common rooms were large and interesting, but we asked the clerk for a restaurant recommendation and he sent us down the block to Bocca don Giovanni and it was extremely expensive. Food was good, but not for the price. On the positive side, the location to the train station was very convenient and we were walking distance to all the sites. The Duomo was just a short walk from the hotel. It's too bad that the hotel did not represent itself honestly on the web site.

After a slightly rocky start (room wasn't ready despite checking in mid afternoon)I really appreciated the friendliness of most reception staff. With plenty of notice they organised a great baby-sitter for my son whilst I attended a conference. Slightly frosty breakfast room staff but the buffet selection was good.

It was just a very short stay but the hotel is very handy for the train station and also to have a look in the city. The room was comfortable and my overall stay very pleasant. I would go back again!

In general the hotel was very good, but noisy early in the morning. It is forbiding to circulate with the car near the hotel and in the hotel´s street and is it no specificated in web, because it is historic place. When we were at the hotel it was the birthday and the owner invieted as with a chanpagne bottle

Besides the rust coming out of the shower faucet when I first turned it on, the mildew on the tile in the shower/tub area and the bathroom fixtures were old and the gold plating partially rubbed off, the remaining stay was o.k.

Very good hotel in the center of Florence, having a a friendly classical atmosphere, nice public spaces (breakfeast room, parlor). The room was cosy and spacious. What I did not like: - When arriving by car it was not possible to get in front of the hotel even for downloading the luggage. I had to drive to a nearby garage and hand carry the luggages. - The 3 days I was staying there was not enough to replace the broken flexible pipe of the shower.

If you are looking for a modern, all-amenities, US-style hotel, the Martelli would disappoint. It is has a bizarre, labyrinthine layout, very limited breakfasts, an antiquated plumbing system, no bar, no pool, no business centre...and so on. On the other hand, it is a 15th Century palazzo (the Martelli family were some kind of friends or associates of the Medici - check out the Martelli Chapel in San Lorenzo), with frescos on the walls and ceilings, five minutes walk from the station at Santa Maria Novella, 5 minutes walk from the Cathedral square, full of quirky charm and oddness that gives you the experience of staying in Florence as a Renaissance city rather than Florence as Disneyland. Plus, for an Italian hotel, it is surprisingly quiet. We stayed four nights and I probably wouldn't do much longer. But for a great short break, reasonably priced (for Florence), great location, full of odd charm and character, I'd recommend it.

The room was good, but not the same that is ilustrated in the web page. By the actual times, it must have internet facilities. One of the days ,we have to wait because there were not tables abailables, the other, when the breakfast room opened, not were ready all the elements ( coffe, milk and juice)

Staff at check in was very aloof and not friendly. Room 27 was nice, and we loved waking up each day to the beautiful painted ceiling and chandelier over our bed. Very spacious room; bathroom small but still good for Europe. Street noise was a problem, but earplugs took care of that. Attractive public spaces but no breakfast. Conveniently located to train station and Duomo, but busy street took away from Florence ambience to me. Last trip to Florence, I stayed in Piazza de Republica area, and the atmosphere was much more inviting and laid-back. Given the price and the special decor of the room, however, I would definitely stay at Martelli again.

The hotel itself was beautiful! However, the service and attitude of the staff was very disappointing. When we arrived the reception clerk did not speak to us at all, he just grunted. The lady at reception that night was on her cell phone constantly and would not get off to help us or another party that was trying to check-in. Very poor customer service.

I had the misfortune to have my wallet stolen within 10 minutes of arriving at Firenze. Your receptionist Adrienna could not have been more helpful. The hotel itself was excellent, and is in an ideal position. I have already booked two more hotels in Italy through Venere.

Worst hotel we ever stayed ! We will never stay here again ! - 20-30 mins walk from train station. not easy with luggage - hotel is a maze. to get to our room we daily navigated an elevator to first floor, a series of corridors and dining room to another elevator, which we took to third floor and yet another corridor to our room. - spacious but dusty dingy rooms as if left untouched since days of Leonardo da Vinci. Horrible sagging mattresses. Sparse dated furniture and not aesthetically so. Analog phone line and so no modem connection to internet. - No hot water. Complain brought a staff member to our room who fiddled with taps for 20-30 mins, threw up his arms and let loose a string of explanation in Italian. On telling him that we didnt understand Italian, he gestured that someone will call us to explain, which never happened and we were left with no hot water or explanation in cold weather as winter was just setting in. - We never dined in the dining room of the hotel, but as we had to navigate through it to get to our room daily, occasionally there was a fecal smell eminating from the dining room. - Construction at the hotel just ourside our room left us without proper sleep due to hammering and shouting - The rooms were very poorly insulated and noise from corridors and adjoining rooms was a constant distrubance.

We stayed in the Room 48. Generally satisfied. But we were disapointted with small and narrow bathroom. We cuuld not find space to walk. We could not move smoothly. We could not wash face without hitting hip against the wall. My friend stayed in he Room 46 which has normarl bathroom with bath tab and price was the same with us.

The room and bathroom was large. If the toilet would stop spitting up every time any type of plumbing was used (using the sink or shower would cause the toilet to gurgle and smell), the place would be clean too.

This hotel is OK only to spend the night. Don't have much expectations about breakfast, better have one in a nice bar in the city. Never the less, price/quality, the hotel is OK.

Compared to other cities visited, the room was poor value for money. Compared to other 3-star hotels, the bathroom, in particular, was poor quality. The original 1970's decorations and fittings are all intact to a greater, or lesser, extent. It was very convenient for both the train station and major attractions.

The property is overpriced for the services provided. There wasn't a phone available in the house in case of emergency.(I'd my own calling card). The breakfast was very bad, compared to the other 6, B&B we stayed at during are trip, at a comparable rate. The bed was saging. The owner was very friendly and helped out with valueable info.

Easy reach of all sites, station, galleries etc. We recommend this hotel as an ideal base for visiting the sites of beautiful Florence. Room 49 is traditional large and has a 70's style bathroom with hairdryer and all necessary bits. Room 48 had a tiny shower room, no bath or hairdryer but was large and lovely if somewhat noisey compared with 49 which was very quiet. Within earshot of all the cathedral bells - a lovely venue. Good Value for money - would visit again.

Frankly, there was a mix-up and the hotel did not have my internet reservation when I arrived. Luckily, there were rooms available which were offered to us at a reasonable (discounted) rate because of the confusion. The single rooms can be pretty small, but they're perfectly comfortable and within steps of both the Duomo and the train station. The hotel is rather labyrinthine, but once you figure out where you room is, the common areas are fun and spacious and beautiful.

This was our second stay at the Martelli. We chose the Martelli because of its location--about two blocks to the train station and two blocks to the Duomo. We had a single (room 42) and a double (room 47). The single was tiny; the double was enormous. Room 47 had almost 20 foot ceilings and original frescos on the walls and ceilings. The Martelli has hardwood floors throughout. The central air conditioning was down for repairs our entire three-night stay. When we opened the windows of room 47 to cool off, the noise outside kept us awake all night. The continental breakfast was only adequate. One of the two desk clerks we encountered, a young girl, was very cute, friendly, and helpful. The other desk clerk, an older lady, was not as fluent in English and appeared somewhat indifferent. The furnishings and amenities in the Martelli could use updating. Overall, however, I would rate the Martelli a pretty good value and might stay there again.

Dona Francesca the ownwer is a charmong womwan, but please dont to enfasize on your reserfvation that you would like a big room. There are difeerent sizes. The room I sayed was quite big , with beatiful furniture and painting on the ssilling. It is tru that the bathrroom wsa not very big, but nothing is totally perfect. Extremely well located.IT DOESN HAVE OWN PARKING,although a neraby parking comes ans deleveres the car , it is expensive. So i recommend if you are thinking to do the baeutiful trip in the toscana by car from rome to venize. Give the car back in Florence and rent anothet the day tyou go to venize

Good central location, convenient for station & sightseeing. Our room was spectacular (no. 47), like staying in a stately home. The downside was the road noise which was dreadful. The hotel does have quiet rooms around a courtyard so if you are a light sleeper then ask specifically for one. Room sizes vary - ours was enormous. Common areas are tastefully furnished. Amazing value at 100 euros. I'd recommend this hotel to others & would definitely use it again on a return visit.
