This hotel is the perfect location for anyone taking the train in. It is a 5 minute walk to the hotel and the area has great places to eat and shop. We had a triple room which was very spacious and looked just like the pictures posted on the website. The staff wasn't overly friendly but did answer our questions and helped us map out our destinations. Breakfast was very good. I'd stay at the Machiavelli again.

Our room was quite spacious and had several windows infact, in different directions that you could open wide but had no means of propping open so that they would allow in -what one hoped- was fresh outside air. The rooms across the alley way were visible from ours and you could hear everything all neighbors were shouting. But worse was the putrid smelling all pervasive odor in these rooms which was nothing short of disgusting. We used both the ac units but that seemed to make things worse. I sprayed a lavender organic something I had brought on our sheets hoping that would "kill" the odor. It didnt. Then, I pulled back the tatty orange bedspread in the evening and it reveals big brown stains on the underside. I would never rank this three star and cannot imagine how it got this status. A little gilt in the lobby when you walked in and some nice ornate touches? There are a plethora of adorable and immaculately clean if not luxurious three star hotels in Florence we later spied. Unfortunately, not in time for this trip.

An excellent Hotel with beautiful surroundings. The staff were polite and helpful - a request for extra pillows was met with great speed. The breakfasts were plentiful and extremely edible :o) A dog friendly hotel - there was at least one dog staying with its owner. In walking distance from the Railway Station - be careful to get off at Firenza Santa Maria N and not before. Hotel is very central for all sights, and Pisa is just an hours train ride away.

THE HOTEL PROVIDED A CLEAN ROOM.NOT AT ALL WHAT WE EXPECTED THROUGH THE PHOTOS ON THE WEB SITE.BREAKFAST WAS SERVED IN A VERY ANXIOUS WAY AS IF NOONE WOULD HAVE THE TIME TO CATCH THE BRIOCHES THAT WERE COMING ON A HOT PLATE AND THE SERVICE LADY WAS SCREAMING "PERMESSO" ALL THE TIME.THE SERVICE WAS NOT READY FOR THE CUSTOMERS THAT WERE STAYING AT THE HOTEL.

Quality hotel for the cost. We had a 4th floor double room overlooking the road in front of the hotel, so unfortunately no view of the historic centre, but the balcony terrace was a welcome place to relax in the cooler evening air. The bedroom was well appointed and spacious, the bathroom rather small but clean with cubicle shower rather than a bath. The location is ideal for the main Santa Maria Novella train station, just about 300m away, and close enough to the main centre to walk to most of the main sights - ideal for culture vultures & shopaholics alike. Our only concern was on check-out, as it appears the hotel had run a pre-authorisation on the card used for the booking, something worth taking into account as this effectively 'froze' part of my available balance prior to paying the bill. (Mercifully, the matter was soon resolved thanks largely to the professionalism of the staff.) I would have no qualms about returning to this hotel or recommending it to others.

I was a single travelor. The room was clean and comfortable. The shower is adaequate for an average person, if you are very tall or wide, I would suggest you get a larger bath. Personnel was kind and helpful with suggestions for restaurants, etc. I would recommend and/or stay there again.

We had a great room for 4; two sets of twin beds. The room was large. Bathroom was big/clean. Hotel staff was delightful, helpful and professional. We would love to be back with them right this minute. The hotel is perfectly located; within walking distances to everything in Florence. Near the train station, but we never heard the train. On a main shopping street but at night there wasn't any noise (places close early). Great bargain shopping around the corner and at the main market a block away. Superb restaurants nearby and hotel recommendations were always good and exactly as stated. El porcospino is a fabulous restaurant nearby, with charming English speaking staff.

This is an excellent location, walking distance from the train station and to everything else in Florence. For such a small price you get all of the essentials, we had a fantastic view from our balcony which was unexpected. Beds are not very comfortable but for one or two nights doable.

Fantastic hotel. Great service, clean and quiet. In a great location for acessing sights in Florence. I had a room on the 5th floor and the views were fantastic out over the roof tops. The hotel is very nice, but not as much as pics showed on the website. Rooms are big and cleaned, the only problem was with the toilet, which was really small and stinky! The location is great (very close to the station and the centre), also because Firenze is pretty small so it's easy to move around. Although I think that rates could be lower, my final rating is GOOD.

As travelers on foot, it was really convenient that this hotel was located just 200 m from the main station, where we were delivered by bus from the airport. It's on what seemed like "hotel avenue" -- since the entire street was lined with hotels, which made finding the sign challenging among all the others. The front desk staff was courteous and helpful, and was very nice to get reservations for museums for us -- even at practically the last minute. Because we arrived late, we were so grateful that restaurants are open later in Italy (than in some other countries), and we can highly recommend the Trattoria Anitchi Cancelli down a couple of small streets and around the corner. There are street markets close by during the day. From our balcony (we were on the top floor) we could look around the corner and see the Duomo -- which was marvelous, and it was a pleasant way to spend a night resting. There were 2 things that were less than ideal for us: 1. TINY shower - it was about 1/2 size of a standard single shower in the US. When you close the according curtain, you can barely turn around -- and there is no chance of bending to wash your legs. Although we are both over 6 feet tall - this would be true even for smaller people. So we made due by showering with the curtain open. Good thing there was a drain in the floor. 2. Inadequate A/C: Even in May you will want A/C. But even turned up all the way, it was 3 days until the room was finally cooled enough to be comfortable. We would sleep with the door open, which was tolerable -- except that because we were on "hotel avenue" it was rather noisy into some of the later hours. While most of the tourist sites are within relative walking distance, if you want to be near those, I would choose a different area of town for accommodations. We liked the proximity to main station.

Location good for site seeing. Room small for a Superior. Shower tiny and not really acceptable for a so-called 'superior room'. Pleasant hotel situated on very busy road 5 or so minutes from railway station. Our bedroom on 4th floor had a balcony with a view of the Duomo ( I think only the 4th and 5th floor rooms have balconies ). The shower cubicle was very cramped but overall the room was pretty good. Breakfast was no better than ok but having stayed in a number of hotels in Italy it was no worse than most. Very friendly, helpful reception staff.

Excellent location, only metres from central market area. Lots of places to eat nearby. Good location to walk to all the main sights. Parking is at a different location, so is best to park out front of hotel, and they arrange for it to be parked, it's not far away, but somewhat expensive. Room was not very big, and the shower was extremely tiny and awkward. OK to put up with for a short time, but it was pretty irritating.

This hotel was exactly as described. The only thing that spoiled it slightly was the early morning noise from market traders hauling their stalls to the market on the cobbled streets around the hotel. The hotel was ideally located for both the sights (10 minute amble to the Duomo) and the station as we were travelling around by train this was useful. But this area of town is a bit 'grubby' and not quite as well kept as others, though several main sights and tourist info within 5 mins walk and essentials shops and restaurants on your doorstep. The hotel had good amenities i.e. internet, safes in room, museum booking service and staff always on hand to help, all very clean. I would recommend to anyone for 4-5 days but if you are going for longer and want something a bit more florentine I would go south of the river or east

This is an excellent hotel! The only thing that needs some help is the shower curtain in our guest room. The Machiavelli was a disappointment, due in large part to the neighborhood and age of the renovation. The room and bathroom were clean and and roomy, so that was not the problem. For the price we paid, we expected the facility to be a bit more charming and the neighborhood to be not so rundown. Of our ten nights in Europe, the two spent here were the least value for the money spent.

In case of double room, it's good to stay. But single room is quite poor. Room is too small with bed smell. The wardrobe in the single room is also too small and short to use. If you are a single traveler, I don't recommand this hotel but it's good to stay who use twin or double rooms.

This hotel is located close to the railway terminal which is what we required. Overall, the hotel lived up. This was the best looking hotel in our stay in Italy and the room was clean and the A/C worked well.
