My only complaint about the stay is that the beautiful shower fixtures were all clogged with lime deposits and worked very poorly. However, the hotel was otherwise very nice and deserves its 4 star designation. Florence's main attractions were about 15-20 minutes away by foot.

Probably the price we paid was an offer, since 90 Euro per night in a 4 stars hotel in Florence is not the average price. By the way the hotel is excellent and worth more than 90 euros. We were in Florence just to see some friends and the location, just above the city center, was perfect both for our destination and for sightseeing.

We found hotel Lorenzo il Magnifico to be an excellent establishment with large, clean, and quiet rooms, functioning air conditioning, and a helpful staff. The hotel serves a full breakfast with a wide selection of breads, fresh fruit, cereals, eggs, etc. It is about a 15-minute walk to attractions such as the Academy Gallery with another 5-10 minutes to the Duomo. We would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone planninga visit to Florence.

All in all, its a wonderful hotel, the concierge told me that originally it was a private parochial school for wealthy girls, so the building itself reflects that grace. It has a definite old world quality about it and the staff was very helpful. My only complaint is that it is a rather long distance to the center of Florence. The staff told me that at most it was a 15 minute walk, but my walking days are not as vigorous as they once were, and it took nearly an hour for me to reach the Piazza della Republica. It became so frustrating that I found a smaller hotel only a blosck away from the Duomo and one and a half blocks from the Uffizi. I regreteed checking out of the Lorenzo, but the closeness of the other hotel made all the difference for my stay in Florence. I recommend the Lorenzo if you have ready transportation, or if you are extrememly hearty and ready for a long walk.

Take the Firenze Nord exit of the A1 motorway and follow the indications to centro. Then follow signs to Fortezza da Basso and proceed until you reach Piazza della Libertà.

By train
The hotel lies about 1 km/0.62 miles from the Santa Maria Novella railway station and is best reached by taxi in a few minutes.

By airplane
The Florence Amerigo Vespucci airport lies approximately 6 km/3.7 miles from the hotel and is easy to reach by taxi in about 15 minutes. The airport is well-connected to the city centre by highway and public shuttle bus service running every 30 minutes to the Santa Maria Novella railway station.
