We loved this little, very well located, hotel in Firenze. Roberto was a lovely host and very helpful. Would recommend this hotel to anyone. It contributed to our wonderful stay in the lovely city of Firenze. If possible, stay in the room on the top floor, this overlooks The Duomo and San Lorenzo.

Morning man at desk was excellant+++. One of the evening people...not so much. Overall a great value in a terrific location for train travelers. What's with the type and the # of available rooms question? They had what I wanted. I have no idea what else was available...why should I?

Our double room was plainly furnished but the bathroom was spacious and clean. The view was lovely as it was on the top floor by lift. The staff were helpful and eager to please. The location of the Lorena is perfect. Just a short walk gets you to all important "sights". We would definitely stay there again as the price was reasonable for a tourist city. We will also use Verere again as the booking went just as smoothly. Thanks for contributing to a great stay in Florence.

We booked a triple room for 2 adults and one child. Hotel reception is on the 2nd floor so it is needed to carry luggage from ground floor to 2nd floor. There is a very small semi-manual lift from 2nd floor. Luckily for us, we arrived in evening and receptionist was a strong young man who was eagered to help us without asking. I was very impressive. Hotel location is not far from railway station and is not far from from tourist attractions by walking. Even we left hotel next morning about 8 o'clock, I still had a chace to visit Duomo one more time. Breasfast was not included.

Lorena hotel in Florence is a very good place to stay while visiting Florence. It is very clean and although the rooms look out on to a busy tourist area,it is total quiet from the inside due to 2 double glazed windows that are sound proof. It is air-conditioned and there's a mini fridge as well. The bathroom looked new and was very clean. The hotel has an elevator from the first floor because from ground floor to 1st floor there are some steps. The breakfast comes at a price of 5 euro daily but I found it worth the price cause it's a buffet having fresh rolls, croissant, tea, coffee or hot chocolate, various jams, yoghurt, cornflakes and orange juice, cheese and butter. The hotel is 5 mins walk from the bus/train station and is right opposite Medici Chapels. One can go anywhere on foot from the hotel cause it's right in the historical centre. The staff are nice and I would use this hotel again.

Excellent value for money. The location puts you right in the middle of everything, including convenient walking distance to reasonably priced restaurants, markets, and a coin operated laundromat. Air conditioning was robust and welcome in the heat of summer. Staff were extremely helpful. The only problem was when our credit card was not accepted by their machine on leaving- which was not a problem with our card or account, but rather with the machine. One might want to have cash ready!

My room was shockingly cheap for the location. The staff had something of an over-it attitude, but it was still a great bargain for Florence. I'd definitely be willing to stay here again -- it was clean and felt safe -- but I might shop around a bit and spend a little more money for a friendlier place.

The room and the shared bathroom were spotless but the street below was really noisy and the lift doors and the other guest's rooms too. I only stayed one night and would advise for very short stays and if you don't mind the noise. Location is brilliant as it's very close to the train station and very handy if leaving town late and need to store your luggage.

well, if you travel by public transportation, it's a good choice for budget backpacker, you get what you paid for. Around ten minutes from train station, and near the church, it's definitely good for city trip. But if you travel with your own car, parking is a big headache because there is no parking space provided.

Incredibly friendly staff. I came with my dog and they treated him like a king, giving him pets and filling him up with tasty bread. Location is very central, really convenient to everything. Room was very clean, with tv, mini-fridge, closet, bath/shower, hairdryer, plenty of plugs. Wifi was hit and miss, but that may have been my device (ipod). Extremely good price (unbelievable, really). It was a bit noisy, but in central Florence this is to be expected at any hotel. I would definitely recommend, and certainly come again.

I must add to all the great reviews for the Lorena. The location is excellent, 5 min from train station right next to the Medici Chapel and a few minutes walk to the Duomo. It is very quiet as there are double glazed windows. The staff was welcoming, friendly and helpful with exception of one young girl who was only just civil and answered any questions as though she was bored. The only downside is that you must hall your luggage up one flight of stairs to get to reception and from there, elevators to all floors. Lorenzo from the desk, heard me lugging mine up one step at a time and rushed down to bring it up for me and he brought it down when I left. He is a real treasure, so helpful and always seems happy to do so. The Hotel Lorena is EXCELLENT value for money!

Domus Civica is a girls only school dorm rented to the public through the end of September. It is a 5 minute walk from the bus station, and a few minutes more from the train station, then a hour to find someone who knows exactly where it really is! <g> By far the hardest part is to spot the nearly transparent building letters etched into a glass panel over the front doors (which you can only barely see IF you turn around and look back the direction you came from as you're going past the street it is on the corner of. Took 4 local people, including 2 local police, to find it. I repeatedly missed the sign due to it being so blended into the building. There were at least 45 college age or younger girls who loved to chatter well past midnight. This would not have been a problem if the halls didn't echo and the doors weren't thin and the windows above the door's opened so that chatter echoed down the halls late at night. Mosquitos were an issue because the room was hot with no air conditioning and opening the window was the only choice because the halls were so noisy. Also, the hall lights glared into the room through the window above the door late into the night. The chair in the room made a lot of noise when moved even slightly across the floor. I understand the excitement (and thus noise generation) of being in a new place and the lack of appreciation that some folks get up early for various reasons. I don't understand the lack of arrangements to deal with lights into the room late into the night, noisy chairs, and mosquitos. Note that, as listed in the description, being unable to leave the building prior to 7 AM (front door locked both ways) could be a big problem for even a 9 AM flight. There was a frig and microwave, and even an ironing board. The wifi worked well at 1 euro/15 minutes. Everyone was quite friendly and helpful. I will stay at the 50 euro (vs 35 here) place I've stayed in the past next time so that I can get some sleep.

The hotel is directly across from the Medici Chapel and two blocks from the Duomo and the Market. Lorenzo was extremely helpful and gave great tips on what sites were open on Mondays, when many are closed. He directed us toward great restaurants, and mapped out specific sites & stores. You do need to go up one flight of stairs, but there is a lift for higher floors. And whatever time you plan to spend in Florence, add two more days.

It'a really very nice hotel, especially the rate relationship between price and quality. Share bathroom is not a problem at all. The batroom is right across the room and it's like a private bathroom and they put free towel in your room. AC and Wi-fi is awesome; staff is very helpful. The location is very central. I definetly suggest breakfast, they serve very good coffe and the whole breakfast is just 5 euro. It would not be any better for a low budget hotel.

My experience at the Lorena's hotel was just amazing. The warm welcome we received from the staff is not very usual in the hotels. As soon as we got there, he(Lorenzo) printed all the schedules for the main attractions in Florence, (including the cost), he provided us a map and showed us the entire city with it. Super clean and nice, in the center of the action in Florence, with an excellent staff, If you are lucky and get a room there, you are going to experience the best of that beautiful city, If, I come back to Florence I will be staying to Lorena's hotel again no doubts!

We loved our stay at Hotel Lorena. The family who run the hotel were very welcoming. Our room overlooked the Medici Chapel and was a good size. About 5 minutes walk to the station and the Duomo and surrounded by leather markets. There is a tiny lift, but you have to carry your bags to the first floor reception. Even with the extra 5 euros each for breakfast this hotel was excellent value.

Initially we were very disappointed with our room (no 33). Arrived at 4pm & it was the only one available. The 'bathroom' was tiny, the shower curtain closed onto the toilet & the ceiling ventilation grid was very thickly coated in dust. Wood panelling in the basically furnished, small, plain bedroom was battered. However, there was always hot water, working air con & double aspect windows in the room one of which overlooked rooftops & the spire & dome of the Duomo. Workmen were re-laying the paving outside so that view was like a building site. Thankfully the double glazing & shutters, once closed, kept out all noise. Bed was clean & comfortable but by far the best aspect of the hotel is its location. We came to appreciate this above all else & ended up not minding the quality of the accommodation at all. Friendly & helpful on reception. Didn't try 5 Euro breakfast, instead recommend "I Gelati Del Bondi', Triangolo Delle Bermuda", further up Via Faenza, towards the station, at the junction with Via Nazionale. Best Pizza across the Ponte Vecchia at Gusta Pizza, Via Maggio 46R & their nearby Osteria & Panini places also great.

Hotel Lorena has no pretensions of grandeur, but delivers all it promises. Visitors to Florence who don't mind sharing a bathroom will find it a well-priced and -located hotel. The family who run Lorena are very welcoming and, for the most part, competent. When we were moved from our room owing to a plumbing malfunction the staff were apologetic and helpful, moving all of our belongings to a new room with no fuss. Be aware that breakfast is not automatically included in the quoted price, and will cost an extra five euros per person, per breakfast. We had one breakfast and discovered it was not particularly worthwhile. Location is five minutes from the station (SMN) and five minutes from the Duomo, making this hotel very conveniently placed. Also, free wifi was available in every room. The hotel could be more comfortable, but if you want a straightforward stay with minimal costs, Hotel Lorena is hard to beat. CC+TV

We got a better welcome when we left than when we arrived. Hotel is near the San Lorenzo market, so good for shopping. The room is small. The floor wasn't clean. We had to ask from shampoo and soap everyday. The owner likes us to turn off the air conditioner when we leave the room; if we forgot, he would come in and turn it off. Therefore, the room can get very warm when we come back and it takes about 30 minutes to cool off the room. Good thing we did our research about Florence, Pisa and Sienna because we didn't get much information or help from the hotel's staff. Overall, it's an OK place to stay if you don't plan to stay much in the room, only need it to shower and sleep.

People at the front desk were very friendly and welcoming, giving us a map of the area and marking all of the important "must sees" on it. Hotel Lorena is in a great location, right next to the San Lorenzo Market (and Mercato Centrale) and maybe a 10 minute walk from the Santa Maria Novella train station (note: there are 3 stations in Florence). The room with shared bathroom was clean, with a sink, a desk, a wardrobe, and a pretty comfortable bed. The shared bathroom was clean, too. The only thing to note was that the front desk is located one flight of stairs up from the street and the rooms are located one, two, or three flights up from the front desk. There is a tiny elevator you can take upstairs from the front desk, but I wouldn't recommend this hotel for people with mobility issues. All in all, this is a great place to stay for people on a budget who still want to be in the middle of everything! I would definitely return!

Travelled on my own for 2 days (then my group came), perfect for this reason: great hotel, low price, clean rooms, warm atmosphere, located in the center of Firenze. Everytime I asked something at the reception, I was answered friendly. Bag deposit until evening, even after check out. Noise in the rooms depend of the side of the window - my one was to the little place in front of the building, therefore kind of loud until late. Breakfast ok (brioches, cornetto, yoghurt, fruit, tea, coffee, etc.), but if you like more choice, maybe go to one of the non- touristic bars in the area. Had a very pleasant stay, thank you!

My friend and I stayed in a twin, share bath room for 3 nights. Bathroom is clean but the shower head is not working very well. It's close to the main station and Duomo. The restaurant next by the hotel serves good food. Staff are willing to help and friendly. I recommand this hotel to poeple who want to stay in Firenze for one or more nights.

We really enjoyed our stay in Hotel Lorena. We were right in the centre of Florence, literally 1 minute away from San Lorenzo and 5 mins away from The Duomo. Our window was facing the Cappelle Medicee, a very nice sight to wake up to. The rooms were basics but spacious and clean, we were in Florence to visit the city and needed the hotel room just for sleeping and washing, and Hotel Lorena resulted in the perfect location. The staff were kind and helpful and I would certainly recommend this Hotel to all who wish a clean and basic hotel right in the centre of Florence

The service is a bit slow but very helpful. We got an upgrade in the room and a late check-out the day of departure, both for free.

I must admit that I was a little concerned to be put in a room overlooking the busy street market, fully expecting to be woken early in the morning by traders setting up for the day; but I did not need to fret as the windows provided excellent noise exclusion. The Hotel Lorena is clean and comfortable and the staff were welcoming and helpful. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel; and will be looking to book with them again on my next visit.

The area is not the most lovely area, but it is very convenient to all the tourist attractions. The hotel has a one-man elevator for luggage, although I still had to carry the luggage from the ground floor to the reception area on the second floor. I am a single traveler, staying in a room without bathroom. The shared bathroom was very clean and convenient. Two layers of windows were installed and minimized all the street noise. The room's decoration is hipped and clean. It has a sink inside. The owner Roberto and staffs were super helpful and friendly. Highly recommend this hotel for single travelers. Free WiFi was fast and convenient. I like the optional breakfast, that saves me a few bucks.

The hotel is perfectly located and within walking distance of most sights. Staff were super-helpful and friendly. My room had a nice view to the duomo and medici chapel. Rooms are nice and clean with good Wi-Fi. Beware if you are driving because the hotel is inside the restricted area, my tip is to park nearby and then walk.

What a fantastic city and an amazing hotel location for our stay. The hotel itself is a little tired looking but this is totally outweighed by the friendliness of the family who own it. They were helpful and extremely patient with us especially when we asked to change our 'room with a view' on the 4th floor, to a lower 'view' because of our fear of heights!!! - what whimps. For the price, we were amazed at the location - our room looked out on the front of the Cappelle de Medici, wow. A short walk through the leather market and we were at the Duomo etc, fantastic. There is no shortage of places to eat and facilities such as cheap supermarkets and a laundrette. There was no need to travel on public transport as everything is within walking distance.

I chose this hotel because it was close to the main train station and the price. The building and facility tend to be old side but everything was working. The staff were very friendly and know how to deal with international visitors and the need. The location was in very centre of the city where could be noisy. That is always is. Breakfast was not included in my deal. It cost 5 euro. However cafes are plenty in this area if you prefer. One big plus was free wifi internet connection provided in rooms for your own laptop. I enjoyed the stay and would recommend this hotel for budgeted travelers who is NOT a light sleeper. Because of some noise from the outside or hallway.

Pros 1) Thank you price - 40 Euro per night without breakfast 2) Location - 5 mins walk from SMN train station / We could see the top of Duomo from the hotel. 3) Friendly staff - They were very supportive for us. Cons 1) Outside noise during night - quite huge so we were woken due to the noise.

We were totally pleased with hotel Lorena and the very warm and helpful staff. The room was comfortable and the breakfast was very good. If you are walking from the train be aware that like many hotels in Florence, the hotel is located in a no traffic side street so get good directions. There are stairs to climb but the staff is right there to help with luggage. We enjoyed our stay very much!

Great location, great hotel. The woman who owns the hotel with her husband is extremely friendly and polite. We were treated very kindly. This hotel is right in downtown near the duomo and within walking distance to anything you need. Buon posto, buon'albergo. La donna che e' il padrone insieme al marito era gentilissima! Ci hanno trattati molto bene. Quest'albergo e' proprio in centro vicino al duomo e si puo' camminare a tutto facilmente

I had a very pleasant stay at Lorena. The hotel is not very difficult to locate if you have the street map. About 10 mins walk from the main train station. I reached there some 3 hours earlier than the check-in time but my room was ready and I was allowed in. My room was on the street side but not too noisy. It looked fresh and clean. The hotel offers free wi-fi and will give you the username and password if requested. The staff at the reception were very helpful and friendly and gave me a city map and marked the locations I wanted to visit. Also helped me with train timetable etc. There's a decent breakfast at additional 5 Euros. Lorena is located at a very convenient location and all important sites can be navigated easily on foot. There's a flight of stairs that you may have to lug your bags up one floor, as there is no elevator up from the street level. Overall, I had a great stay at Lorena.

Check in desk open late into the night. at the cost of 5 euro you get a very good breakfast. The staff is amazing, especially the night shift staff. Bathroom looked newly refurbished and was most spacious out of all the hotels we stayed in in Italy. Public areas are small but nice. Location is excellent. Easy walk to the Duomo. I loved staying there and will definitely visit again.

The owners are extremely hospitable. I also recommend the breakfast that they offer for 5 euro each - for that price you get a continental breakfast with a yummy cappacino. It's a bargain. The only thing that could be improved is the showers as they are difficult to stand in.

Very friendly and helpful staff. This hotel is in the heart of Florence, an ideal location for all tourist sights and the main train station. Rooms were spacious, clean, double glazed windows to keep the night noise out as there was a bar underneath and had air conditioning. Breakfast was an additional €5 per person. all in all the hotel was excellent value for money.

Located very close to the Duomo and within an easy 5 minutes walk to all the citys major attractions. The only downside was that the reception is on the first floor and so is the lift! The staff were very helpful and speak good English.Breakfast basic but filling for 5 euros. Air conditioning in room, bed made daily and towels changed every two days. All in all a good budget hotel and would go again.

The Hotel is on a great location, 5 minutes walk from the train station, and probably 3 minutes walk from the Duome. It's a simple hotel, but we got an upgrade to a "presidential" suite, which was very spacious and very quiet. The price was fair, we call in advance and Lavinia made us reservations for the Accademia and Uffizzi, which saved us hours of waiting line. We paid straight at the museuns, and got right in w/o delay. The breakfast is not included, but there's a wonderful cafe just few steps down the road with great cappuccino, omelete among other italian great treats. Internet access available, very clean. Overall, we loved it. Debora

Excellent location, 5 minutes from main railway station, also 5 mins from the Dome. Street market (famous San Lorenzo)and many restaurants, shops nearby. The hotel is tidy, the staff is very friendly and helpful. My room was on the top floor facing the Medici chapel and the street market (booked a single but got an airy double, MANY THANKS!) in the far distance the Dome and Bell tower, so the view was very nice, exactly like on the photos. The hotel room was perfectly clean, with comfortable bed and furnitures.Even hair drier in the bathroom. I have never stayed in such a good 2* hotel before (would quote as 3*), I really recommend it to anyone. I loved to stay there and would come again!
