Love, love, love this place. We were in Florence for 3 days and wish we could have stayed longer. Best wifi service we had on our trip. Great location, helpful staff/24 hour desk, great breakfast, rooftop seating w/view of entire city. This hotel does have a lift to the lobby (it's on the second floor but not difficult to find.) Must check out Angie's Bar if visiting Florence, great music (soul, R&B, mowtown, etc, cute bartender :D ), reasonable prices. Can't wait to go back and will surely stay at La Scaletta when we do.

Only real complaint is that the room could have been vacuumed better. Floor was not as clean as it should have been. Otherwise we were very happy: Pleasant and nice staff. Photos do not make it clear that the hotel is on second floor.

We stayed for 3 nights. The staff was very welcoming and very helpful - they got us reservations to the major museums even when the museum's website was telling us that we couldn't make reservations. Don't miss the Pitti Palace nearby, and the wine bar "Pitti Gola e Cantina" just in front of the palace. All of Florence's major sites are within walking distance (if you don't mind walking 20 minutes for the sites that are the furthest). Very close to the Uffisi and the Ponte Vecchio. The room was huge, bright, airy, lovely! Only negative point: bathroom may be in need of a visit from the maintenance crew. A lot of mold around the recessed window which is in the shower stall.

We had a great stay here. It was two blocks from the Ponte Vecchio and a fantastic central location for all the sightseeing we did. Very safe neighborhood even coming home late from the bars and restaurants. VERY small elevator.

We had a very pleasant experience. The elevator worked all of the time (unlike in other reviewers' experiences). The staff was friendly and helpful especially with shopping and dining recommendations. We went to the roof terrace at dawn to take photographs and it seemed as though we had Florence all to ourselves! The air conditioning was wonderful, at no extra charge, especially as it was in the mid to high 80s. My room was clean, quiet and huge! The mini bar offered complimentary welcome bottles of water, beer and juice. At breakfast, be sure to order the toast. I know, it seems silly, but the bread must have been home made and it was very tasty with great jams and butter. Great coffee, and there were plenty of other breakfast choices, too.

I am a single, male traveler and I stayed at Hotel La Scaletta for one night in October 2009. Room was great. Staff was great. Location couldn't be beat, as it is located halfway between Ponte Vecchio and the Pitti Palace. Breakfast was typical, perfectly adequate. For a single traveler on a quick stay in Florence, you can't go wrong with Hotel La Scaletta.

Convenient location close to the "ponte vecchio". from the terrasse you have a wonderfull view of Firenze. Unfortunately the terrasse is not accessable in the evening. A restaurant is running the place and there is no access unless you have a diner there.

The hotel was quiet, cheap, central, welcoming, with a great view from our room and an amazing huge terrasse. NOthing else to add that was THE one place to stay in Florence

We had stayed at La Scalletta in 2008 and we had a very nice large room for a modest amount of money. We therefore decided to return in 2009 however with the £ exchange rate to the euro the room was more expensive but we felt for the room type that we had last time that it was a resonable price to pay. We were wrong. The room was advertised as a double economy with a high window. It was like a priests cell very dark with a window touching the ceiling and was only about 2 feet long and 2 feet wide. Consequently it was dark. The room was also half the size of the one we had in 2008 and more money! The bathroom was as big as our double standard wardrobe at home and the bed - the springs could be felt through the mattress. The location was good but as regular Florence visitors we will find another hotel for 2010 and this will not be La Scalletta.

Outstanding location at a good price. 150 steps to the Ponte Vecchio and about the same in the other direction to the Palazzo Pitti.

We visited the Scaletta last year and I gave it ten out of ten which was perhaps slightly over generous due to being overwhelmed by Florence and the views from the terrace. All these factors still obviously apply but with two qualifications. The hotel is non-smoking and this should in fairness be made clear in publicity. The staff cover the entire spectrum from friendly through cool efficiency to appalling rudeness and incompetence. The breakfast staff offer extras to Italians and treat English speakers with barely disguised contempt and distain. If you are a non-smoking Italian it is a great hotel. If, however, you are English (speaking)buyer beware, either develop a thick skin or attempt to see it as an Italian Fawlty Towers. The hotel is very good of its type and I am sad that I will never be going back there.

We were very impressed with the Hotel La Scaletta. The reception staff spoke good English and were very helpful. The room was very clean and spacious with cable TV and air conditioning (both of which worked). The location was fantastic, being a minute's walk from the Ponte Vecchio, but amazingly quiet considering it was right in the centre of a tourist area. Our only complaint was that the breakfast was dreadful (horrible coffee, pre packed croissants and juice from a machine) and the one member of staff who appeared to be on breakfast room duty was slow to respond to requests and at one point verged on rude. If we had been staying more than one night we would have looked elsewhere for breakfast on subsequent days. Otherwise we had a very pleasant stay and would highly recommend it.

Great location - lots of good restaurants and shops on your doorstep. Away from the madding crowds although a stones throw from the Ponte Vecchio bridge. The roof top bar is an absolute treasure and there is no better place to have a sundowner. We had a quiet room overlooking the Boboli Gardens and the staff were friendly and relaxed.

I was not very happy with my stay at your hotel. First of all, the staff at the desk were not very friendly. They greeted us on arrival and during our stay with a stern look. The beds were very hard. We had requested a matrimonial bed instead we got 2 doubles that were put together as one bed. I will not stay at this hotel again.

This is the first time we had stayed at Hotel La Scaletta however we have been to Florence about 5 times over the past 8 years and stayed in a variety of hotels and rented accomodation - some not so good. The hotel is located on the Altarno - on the side of the Pitti Palace which is an excellent location as you do not have the noise of the main area of Florence yet you are are only a few hundred metres away from the main activity in Florence. The only disadvantage of this hotel is that it is on the 2nd Floor which is accessed by a small lift - the lift will only take 2 people or one person and 1 large suitcase at a time. However the lift is new and my wife, not liking lifts too much, was fine with this one. Once in the hotel the room we had was downstairs from the reception with no lift therefore you need to be comfortable carrying your cases down and up the stairs as necessary. The room we had was room 24 and a lovely clean large room with a large bathroom. The only disadvantage of the room was that it did not have a safe. The room was quiet and extremely clean and comfortable. The breakfast was of no great merit however the views on the terraces is amazing and well worth just being in the hotel to see it. All in all having stayed in many hotels and rented accomodations in Florence and Italy this is one that we would return to without hesitation on our next visit to Florence.

Excellent hotel. Great view from the terrace, good breakfast, helpful front desk, free internet (good for planning your train connections). Location is great. There are many restaurants around but overpriced and of poor quality. Better find something in Santa Croce area (15 min walk). Would come back without second thought.

Excellent value, quality and location. Situated a hundred yards south of the Ponte Vecchio in a 15th century pallazzo, the hotel is on the third floor, accessed by a small caged lift. The room was large and stylish. Stairs from the breakfast room lead to a roof terrace with a wonderful 360 degree view of the city. The staff were all professional and helpful. Very near the Piazza di Santo Spirito with fine reasonably priced Rough guide reccommended resturants. As first-time visitors to Firenze, I feel we landed on our feet thanks to Venere's excellent website.
