Hotel Il Granduca - Florence

Unfortunately, family rooms are on the street side and you get a feeling that cars or bikes are crossing your room during all night. Windows have to be changed and the rooms should be refreshed - ours was not at the level of the pictures on the web site. For the rest, the staff is very nice, the breakfast excellent and the location convenient. The private parking at 18 Euros is good option if you do not need it at all during your stay which is very likely in Florence.

The room was quite dark and bare and looked like it hadn't been decorated for a long time, but it was clean and everything worked. Bed was uncomfortable - two single beds pushed together to make a double. The lift was ancient and tiny. Breakfast was very good with a large selection and fresh bread etc. Location was perhaps a bit too far from the central area, but that's reflected in the price.

Generally speaking, we were not welcome at this hotel. The woman at the counter was rude and completely incompetent and uncommunicative. Although the hotel has three stars, she did not speak English. Her bevahior did not correspond to either the Italian or European concept of good manners. Her boss was even worse: very agressive and insisting on leaving him the keys to our car although we were going to park in their pre-booked garage only overnight. They both humiliated us, and forced us to use accommodation services different than offered in their advertisement. When we returned around midnight we had to wait a while because the receptionist was asleep. The elevator and the air-conditioning system were out of order despite high temperature outside so the windows had to be kept open. Noise from the street was unbearable. Beware of this hotel if you do not want to hate Florence for the rest of your life.

Walking distance to the City center 15 min in pedestrian zone

Hotel staff were helpful to recommend places to dine - EDI House Restaurant close, reasonably priced and food was very good!

All fine. Weather prevented use of back terrace. Bummer.

Friendly staff, comfortable room but a good walk from the center

Excellent value in Florence. Rooms spacious and clean and the service is charming. However, location is not where indicated on the map -- it is about 3 blocks north.

Although our room at Il Granduca was small, it was very comfortable and clean and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Sergio the manager went out of his way to be helpful, curteous, and pleasant. We would stay here again if we get back to Florence.

The location as indicated on the map is incorrect as the property is about three blocks down the road, as indicated on the map. We had a warm welcome and the staffmembers were friendly and very helpful in matters like car parking, tourist attractions and restaurant recommendation (even booked a table for dinner). The room was clean, quiet, airconditioned, and the bed comfortable. Bathroom was standard with toilet, handbasin and a spacious shower. The hotel is central, located in a quiet area and within easy walking distance to the tourist attractions (10 minute walk to the Cathedral Duomo). We will stay here again when visiting Florence.

The hotel was fine. We had a car and were able to park in front. The hotel is within walking distance but a long walk to the centro. The main problem we had was a window in the front of the hotel with traffic noise keeping us up at night.

Planned to stay for three nights, left after one. Location is a lot farther out than you realize. In our one night there, many of us were ravaged by mosquitoes. Our bathroom sink was inside the shower stall. Our friends in another room said the air conditioning didn't work in their rooms and they ended up sweating the entire night. You're expected to be extremely quiet when in the hotel, almost as if you're staying in a library. There are better places to stay. Inexpensive rates, but even still, not a lot of value for what little money you pay.

Relaxing, good breakfest that was included, ok location for touring, parking on the street, would stay there again

We were impressed with the Il Granduca. It was a five minute walk from the important sites in Florence, and the staff was wonderful. It was a typical European offering: the suites were basic, but clean, and the breakfast was included. If we were to return to Florence, we would again stay there. One problem was the difficulty that we experienced in trying to find the hotel after exiting the autostrada, but this was a problem that we experienced throughout Italy.

The map referring to the location of the hotel is wrong. It shows Via G. Capponi whereas the hotel is located in Via P. Capponi. It was with great difficulties and help of local people that we at last arrived at the proper place. We mentioned the wrong map to the hoteldesk but no correction have yet been made. In general we found hotel prices in Italy very high.
