I've been in Florence for a night and a day. The hotel is clean, confortable, near the station and the most part of Florence's monuments. Especially, I found a good service: both pragmatic and polite.

The staff at Hotel Guelfa were warm and welcoming. It isn't a grand hotel, however, you shouldn't be spending much time in your hotel while visiting Florence. It was a perfect little room to come home to at the end of a busy day.
USA, Jul 2009
Very helpful young man working the desk when we arrived. He gave us a map and circled points of interest as well as carrying my bag to my room and showing us how to use the air conditioner. Good location within walkin distance of train station and city sights.

old, feels old, looks old from your room, slightly smells old. ac barely worked but appreciated it. no ice for the guest. main person only spoke italian, which is ok but it would have been nice to better communicate with him. tv was small but didnt spend much time in room.
USA, Jun 2005
Even though the front desk guy who was there at night didn't speak English, he seemed quite willing to help and we managed to communicate enough to call a taxi for the train station (which wound up costing too much, but that may not be the hotel's fault - just that the Italian taxi driver knew we were American.)

A old man in reception is nice but does not speak english, we still can managed. The room is old and the carpet smelling. No elevator. I would not expect too much because with this kind of price vs qality. Its better for single traveller.

Massimo and Enrico were both helpful (the hotel is family-owned)...at night, they have an old man who keeps an eye on the guests...he also prepares breakfast (though he only spoke Italian)...the room we had was clean and good for us four friends. It's got everything you need for a two-star hotel...the location is very good as it's right in the heart of everything...we walked to all the important places in Florence from the hotel! Magnifico!

Excellent location -- walking distance to historic center (dome, ponte vecchio), walking distance to railway station. The receptionist did not speak English, but we managed. I could not find an internet plug in my room, but Guelfa street anyway is full with cheap internet cafes, one of them right next door.

The hotel room was dirty, one of the cleaners used to clean the bedsheets every second day and never hoover the carpet. the smells were dreadful, also the air vent smelled after switching it on for 5 minutes. the breakfasts were boring the same thing everyday. the staff were friendlyish but they really need to work on the hotel, starting with a thorough clean of the all the rooms. the shower was busted and the man said he'd repaired it but it was still the same. overall i wouldnt recommend hotel guelfa to my worst enemy it sucks. good luck to anyone who steps through the gate of doom and gloom.

A simple but quite nice hotel with helpful English-speaking staff. The room was OK,clean enough, very calm and quiet but the shared bathroom had a funny smell. The location is perfect, very central but still in a rather quiet street. We wouldn't mind coming back.

- it's not really a hotel, it's a pension - breakfast: not fresh and not enough: for 1 person: 2 sandwiches and 1 croissant: you have to take the plastic off + : it's near the station, in the centre of florence it's ok if you just spend the night there

Hotel Guelfa staff memebers were nice and respectful. This hotel does not have an elevator, so be prepared to lug your luggage up three flights of stairs.

We stayed at the hotel only two days, but globally everything was ok. Guelfa is a familiar hotel, small and confortable enought to enjoy your visit to Florence. Our room was a little noisy, but we were so tired that it was nothing annoying to us.

It was really good, very clean, employees were very polite and nice. Breakfast wasn't very delicious but the coffee, chocolate and cappuccino were good enough (at least after what you normally have in Belgium). It's 10-15 min walk from the Firenze SMN and the same time to the Duomo. In general I was very happy with the price/quality combination.

Hotel Guelfa is very nice and in good location. Close to the train station and very central. We really enjoyed to stay there and if we some day return to Florence definitely stay there again. The staff were very friendly and made very good cappucino and gave good tips about the restaurants. Room was very clean (as all other areas in hotel) and air conditioned. All works well! Very nice recommendable Hotel!

This hotel is very dirty and over priced. Bathroom is dirty and there is not sound proof between rooms. Hotel picture are much better looking than the real hotel.

The room was just ok--very small and the walls were dirty. The shared bathroom smelled very strongly of urine, and the floor was sticky which led me to believe that there was urine all over the floor.

Good basic budget hotel with very helpful staff during the day!.The night porter was always pleasant but obviously did not understand the request for an early morning call despite much nodding that he did.The traffic noise could cause a problem for light sleepers with the rooms at the front of the hotel. On the whole an excellent base to explore the city from.

The hotel was ok, located not too far from the train station and the city center (10 minute walk from either). Room was ok. Breakfast was small, but sufficient. The only complaint is that the room was really cold. The heater was turned on only during nights and even then not very high. In summer this would not be a problem, but the weather during our visit in March was still quite cold, especially at night, so this hotel might not be the best place if you feel chilly easily. Other than that, we were happy with the hotel and would stay there again (but only in summer ;-)

I would chose this little Hotel again, because of it's good location! You can reach the Duomo and other things in 5min! We were really surprised about the nice room! They, at least ours, are much nicer than on the pics from the site! The aircondition was one of the main reasons we have chosen this hotel, with 40°C in Firenze i could'nt imagine sleeping without it!! Friendly staff!

The hotel managers are fiendly and sincere. This is a good hotel with reasonable price and good location.
Heterosexual Couple
USA, May 2005
For the price, this "hotel" should be rated below a youth hostel. First, it is located a block away from the marketplace, which you have to cross whenever you want to get to restaurants and important landmarks. The air conditioning was a joke, it could hardly work due to a broken electric outlet. A grumpy old manager will sit beside the shared bathroom you choose, probably to count how many minutes you take on the shower. Finally, no credit cards are accepted, so make sure you bring cash before you check out.

Great location! Nice family oriented hotel. with cute cats! A little bit arabian and african neighborhood but Firenze is overall a safe town at anytime. (They just looked scary to us specially at night) We got double room with bath and it was pretty clean and so as bathroom. oh, with air condition machien too! but was noisy :(( Just be careful when you take shower in this room. my friend loves shower with lots of water.... she made a lake in the bathroom!! We asked a mop to clean the water. oops. Don't get excited with water. open it slow and your bathroom is safe. and for the breadfast, perhaps it is better to take them outside bar. recircled unopened biscket packs with hair ecc... ewww. Anyway, this hotel was really cute and good priced! good location! have fun all!

After checking into the hotel we were given a room that is obviously reserved for the local wildlife. Cats had sprayed in the room, the bedding was ripped, the sheets and pillows were covered in cat hair and mud and my party left the hotel with a variety of flea bites (after only 20 minutes)that were particularly unpleasant. The paint had peeled off the wall and was painted over in a different colour. The room opened onto a terraced balcony that can only be described as a refuse collection site. stay here at your peril!

Overall no complains with the price I paid which came with basic breakfast too (coffee and croissant). Room was spacious and clean, TV with CNN and BBC. Bathroom was clean, although water pressure was quite poor. The hot water only lasted for one quick shower. You can ask to use the shared bathroom outside. Staff was very friendly and helpful. About 5-7 walk to the main station.

Great Hotel for the price. It has one star but it is a very clean hotel with brand new furnitures, and very close to the center. I had a very spacious room. The employees were very kind. I am extremely happy I spent my night in Florence at Guelfa Hotel. Cons:The sight from my balcony was pretty ugly, but it did not bother me. The brekfast was very poor. There is not a buffet breakfast (the common area is too small for that), but you are served and you have a coffe (or similar), a glass of orange juice, 2 slices of toasted bread with jam, and a pastry (definitively too poor for a breakfast lover as me)

Guelfa is in a great location, close to the train station and very central. Breakfast (coffee, juice, roll and sweet croissant) was included in the price. The place had a lot of character and I really enjoyed my stay there and would definitely stay there again. The staff were super nice and the common areas were very stylish and elegant, and the rooms were very clean. A great little hotel!

The guy who welcomed us was good, directed to the room and helped with the luggage. But the room was terrible. The lock doesnt open easily and we had to learn some tricks to open the lock from them. And the second guy, who stayed at the night was breaking in to the room for no reason few minutes after we returned to the room. Reason told was nothing, but he pretended as if he is checking the lock. Heard lot of noices and loud voices all night long, disturbing the sleep. Toilets are not clean. Breakfast was too little, just a croissant and a bread, one glass of orange juice. The old man who stayed in the night duty served the breakfast and he insisted delivering only cappucino to everyone, and that was full of water and nothing else. Overall, only good advantage I see is that the hotel is centrally located, but need to sacrifice a lot for it.

The worst hotel we stayed in on our trip. The room was worth about half of what we paid. The walls in the room were FILTHY, as if some kid had decided to smash a dirty pair of sneakers against the wall about 50 times. There was a generally mildew/musky kind of smell whenever we returned to the room, and the "shower" was disasterous. Basically the shower was a shower head attached to the wall and not seperated from the rest of the bathroom. There was a drain, although whenever one took a shower the entire bathroom would get flooded. However, it seemed like this occurred by design, so on some level I guess the bathroom functioned as intended. When we arrived at the hotel, there was no one there to greet us, and all of the room keys were out in the open for pretty much any streetgoer to have their way with. Finally, someone arrived to help us after 15 minutes. The staff was nice, but I can't believe their proud of the establishment they run. Generally, not a good deal by any stretch of the imagination.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Guefla. It was a very clean and spacious room and the price could not be beat. The hotel was very easy to find and it is centrally located. I think the breakfast we had there, which is included, was one of the best during our whole trip. My only complaints were that you cannot depend on a wake up call, and the man who works at night speaks little English. Aside from that, it was a great stay. We would book Guefla again that next time we're in Florence.
