This was our first time in Florence and the Hotel Giglio. The location is great for the downtown sites, museums and restaurants we wanted to see. The staff was excellent in all areas and breakfast was very very good. We would book at the Hotel Giglio again.

The staff were extremely friendly and hospitable. In fact, we arrived late, and the staff person was able to send us to a great trattoria which was open late. They served a lovely and hospitable breakfast. Our room was clean and very well air conditioned. It is not, however, a boutique hotel in the manner that Americans understand the concept. The decor is very plain and in need of updating. The bedding was all very plain as well (better pillows needed). ALSO, they assumed because we were two men we wanted separate twin beds, and even when we pushed them together, they would be made up separately when the maids came in. You have to go to the first floor from a very old and not updated entrance way, and the elevator only fits one person plus luggage. The location is not bad--it is near San Marco and Mercato but a good 20 minute walk from many other sites. On the other hand, that means it is quiet. All in all, it is a good value, but it is what I would call a tourist class hotel as opposed to a boutique hotel. With a little updating, it could easily be the latter. Still we enjoyed our stay and thought the hospitality as excellent.

I don't often stay in hotels, preferring a house or apartment. But Hotel Giglio is one of my treasured finds for those times when I need a hotel in Florence. The staff and owners are friendly, competent, and amazing. There was not one detail that they overlooked. One thing I notice when I check into a hotel are the faces of the other guests. Here they were all smiling!

We stayed for 3 days over the Labor Day (USA) weekend with our 2 teenage boys. Everything about our stay was great. This is a family-run small hotel. Marco greeted us with cold drinks and lots of helpful suggestions about sights and restaurants. They even called to make reservations and gave us cards for discounts. Every suggestion was great. Our room was large, clean, and comfortable. Everything was within walking distance. The breakfasts were simple, but satisfying. When we had to make an early morning train, Roberto drove us to the station in a rain storm and helped us with our luggage. Everyone at the Giglio was warm and welcoming and tried to do everything to make our stay a successful one. We highly recommend the Hotel Giglio and would definitely stay here again.

We returned to the hotel after a three year break and it was just as good as before. We had a flight cancellation and the staff were so supportive and helpful enabling us to stay longer and driving us to the station. They were always polite and ready to have a conversation. We had a really good time here.

The negative: 1. Via Camillo Cavour is a busy street and I could hear some traffic when trying to sleep at night. 2. There is a tourism tax of 1 euro per day per person per star (3 star hotel for 5 days for 3 people = 45E) and that was not clear when I booked. The positive: 1. The staff was amazing, very welcoming and helpful. 2. The breakfasts were very good. 3. The Hotel is well situated. 4. The room was elegant and everything was working. 5. Internet access was free and two computers were provided for the guests.

*Stayed 2 nights in Deluxe/Superior Double Room. PROS: VERY helpful, friendly, and accomodating staff. Luca and the rest of the front desk staff spoke English very well and were extremely considerate. The owner even drove us to meet our friends at another hotel (politely refusing compensation) on the day we left. The room and bathroom was very large and the hotel was within a 10 minute walk of the Duomo. CONS: Although the room was very clean, it was also fairly stark. Bathroom could've used a shower curtain. OVERALL: A wonderful place to stay. We would recommend this hotel.

Our stay at Hotel Giglio was the best! The location was in walking distance to almost all major sights in Firenza. The room was large by european standards. But the highlight of our 6 day stay here was the superb services provided by the front desk. Whoever was at the desk, was knowledgeable, pleasant and willing to go the extra yard to help you out. My husband had hurt in ankle during out stay and the staff made sure an ice bag was available for him whenever need. It was great.

It is no wonder that there were many guests, from all over the world...all very happy. I highly recommend Hotel Giglio.

The staff was very kind but... The floor was very old, there was a very old desk that needed to be replaced. And in the night a tedious acute sound started even during the night. The room space was tiny. The bathroom was fine, however the shower was full of a deposit of limestone and some faucet washers were broken. Not a three-stars for sure.

The staff at Giglio was amazing! The hotel as a whole is wonderful, however, it is a little farther away from the Duomo area than I had thought (~.5 mile). The walk is well-lite and easy if you don't mind a little walk. There was a great spread for breakfast. At the end of the stay the owner gave us a complimentary ride to teh airport. **The train station is walkable but takes about 15-20 minutes at a brisk pace.

Perfect place to stay - spotlessly clean with really fantastic friendly staff, who gave us great restaurant recommendations and tips. This is a gem of a hotel. We stayed in a triple room (actually quadruple) in which all the beds were proper ones and not cot-type as is usual. The room was extremely spacious and though the bathroom was a little on the small side it was perfectly adequate. Everything spotlessly clean. Breakfast was great with a wide choice. Apart from the usual cereals, cheese, ham, yogurts, croissants and pastries etc there was fresh seasonal fruit and also fresh fruit salad. Internet use was free, which was a real bonus. What makes this hotel exceptional however is the quality of service. From the minute you walk in Marco and his staff make you feel right at home: always with a smile and always ready to offer help and advice or just a little chat about your day. We'll be back! Highly recommended.

The staff is so friendly here! Those people are really worth to say a few words about and I would like to thank them! The hotel is 10 min walking from Duomo, and early morning I've reached Uffizi just in 15 minutes. It is very easy to find. For those who will arrive to the hotel from the railway station the taxi will cost about 6-8 euro. Taxi will serve only for the very first time, because you will easily find it ince you've been there. Thank you, shy girl on reception with beautiful eyes! Thank you all the staff!

This is the 2nd hotel I've stayed at in Florence and it is excellent hotel for the price. The air-conditioning worked great, and the staff was friendly and assisted us with recommendations on sightseeing and restaurants. The breakfast offerings were very good, in fact, of 3 hotels we stayed at in 9 days in Tuscany, the Giglio breakfast offered the most. It is located in a quiet area but there is not much in the way of restaurants or shops near it. However, it is only a 10 minute walk to get into the Duomo main plaza. We would definitely stay here again, and highly recommend it.

Close to the Piazza San Marco, this hotel has a unique atmosphere that perfectly reflects the traditional florentine spirit! The rooms have antique furniture, high ceilings and modern bathrooms. Breakfast is excellent. The staff is incredibly helpful and nice (especially the two brothers, thank you!) about everything: sightseeing, outlets (25€ offered per customer), parking... And the hotel even provides books, guides and DVDs to watch in your room (where there's a DVD player) for free! The place to stay in Florence...

I was traveling with a friend from college and the Giglio was the perfect place to stay. It was on a quiet road, located about a 15 minute walk from the main attractions in Florence. When we first walked in the staff pointed out all the main attractions on a map, including a great place to overlook the whole city. They even have DVDs to watch for free if you want to stay in for the night, which I thought was great! The breakfast in the morning was great as well, they had a great variety of things to eat and everything was nicely prepared. For the price this is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. I chose this hotel because of reviews on this and other sites. Only 10 mins walk from the city centre, Hotel Giglio is located in a quiet street in a safe neighbourhood. Unusually, it occupies the first floor of a building used for other purposes but that posed no issues whatsoever. The proprietors' promise of good service, clean and functional rooms and unfailing courtesy turned out to be an understatement. Our hosts were eager to be of assistance in a whole range of ways: nothing is too much trouble. Room 7 was neat and spacious, with ample storage space and a sizeable en-suite. The buffet breakfast was typical of Italian hotels and offered plenty of variety, enough to fill you for the morning's excursions. At 74 euros for a double room, I felt we got superb value for money. If you want to stay in a hotel which offers a warm welcome, super room, wonderful staff at a price which belies its quality, try Hotel Giglio. I'm looking no further if I should return to Florence. The city itself is easlily navigated and compact. Nothing that matters is very far from anywhere, unless you have to be dragged to Fiorentina's football stadium by your 17 year old son. In 4 days I only scratched the surface of this renaissance gem. Go!

Pros: 1. Spacious triple bedroom for two adults and one child. The price is reasonable. 2. The breakfast and reception areas are warm and inviting. 3. The owner, Marco, is professional and very friendly. He will answer all of your miscellaneous questions about touring the city. 4. Breakfast is extremely satisfying. You can even have a cup of cappuccino for free. The fruit salad is also impressive. If it is not breakfast time, you can order a cappuccino for only 1.5 euros. 5. The museum with the famous statue of David is only 3 minutes’ walking distance away. 6. A small supermarket is next to the museum, where you may buy fruit, bottled water, beer and other things. Special thanks to Marco and his brother: They were very helpful, personally chauffeuring my whole family twice because my wife’s foot fracture was still healing. The brothers drove us to the newer Medici castle, the furthest scenic spot from the hotel we wanted to see, and to the train station when we were leaving Florence for Rome. Cons: The door of the room is rather thin so noise from the hallway travels to the bedroom. Overall: I strongly recommend this hotel to you.

This hotel is on the second floor of a multi-storied building. A business is on the first floor. It is decorated nicely and our room was a good size as was the bathroom. The breakfast was bread, pastries, cereals, etc., and very good cappuccinos. It is a short walk to the Accademia and the rest of the tourist attractions are a walkable distance, but we were told the buses went by frequently, if you don’t want to walk. There didn’t seem to be any restaurants, etc., in the immediate area around the hotel, which may bother some people. The big plus for this hotel was its pleasant and informative staff. Each one was very courteous and helpful. The desk clerk and the two of us were the only ones up at 5:30AM when she called a cab for us. The cab came in 5 minutes. Now that’s service!

Giglio provided us the best hotel service we've ever had to date. Everyone speaks excellent English and goes out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable in Florence. They gave us plenty of suggestions for things to do and places to eat and they all turned out to be excellent. They even offered to drop us at the train station - which was a very thoughtful touch. Hotel Giglio is housed on the first floor of a traditional Florentine building; our room was quite large, with a high coffered ceiling, air conditioning and a spotless ensuite with power shower. The king size bed was incredibly comfortable. Considering we only paid 90 euros a night and the hotel is less than 10 minutes' walk from the Piazza del Duomo, I think it was very good value. The staff were very friendly and spoke excellent English. The Continental breakfast provided each morning was above average, with fresh rolls or toast, cereal, fresh fruit & pastries - enough to set us up for a whole morning sight-seeing. The coffee's pretty good as well! Only negative I can think of is that there aren't any public areas in the hotel to relax in. Also there's not much to do immediately around the hotel and some of the buildings nearby are a little run down - but if you want to spend most of your time wandering the city and seeing all it has to offer (as we did) then that won't be too much of an issue! You're assured of a good night's sleep when you do stagger back in. Would definitely recommend the hotel. Incidentally, the owners also have an osteria (something like Del Cingiale) near the Ponte Vecchio - worth a visit and ask for the 'honeymoon' table if you're a couple :-)

Nice Place, Doors to room a little flimsy, giving a feeling of insecurity and doing little to filter out the noise of some of the louder guests. Nice Shower facility in room. Breakfast was good and the location was great. There was little explanation of some ofthe customs of the hotel such as leaving your room key at the desk, or how the (tiny) TV worked.
