The credit card machine was damaged and they were happy to receve the payment in cash. I stayed in a triple room that had its privet bathroom but there were no bathtub. The shower just put the water in the floor of the bathroom and everything gets wet. A spill of water came out to the room.

The receiption is very helpful to help us using the long distant calling card. And their computer is free to use. But the environment is really bad there. The room is not enough lighting which makes the room looks dirty. The balcony can connect to other rooms which is quite dangerous. The hotel located in a poor building. The stairs was dark and horrible.

There was no hot water the last three nights, but the view was spectacular. Just be ready for the trade-off. Don't plan on showering. Also, there are mice in the rooms. The rooms get cold at night because the windows don't properly close. But for backpacking students it was fine.

When I booked the room, the web page stated that the room will have TV, but initially the hotel assigned me a very small room with no TV in it, after I protest, the hotel gave me a room with TV, but was filled with the stinky smell of cigarettes. The room was facing the street, and during the night, there were many crazy Africans down the street playing loud hip-hop music and do street dancing all night long! and I could not get any sleep at all. The next morning the hotel told me that I have to pay by cash and not credit card because they have had some problem with the system for two days, although it is not hotel's fault that the system broke down, they could at least inform me through e-mail before my arrival so I could bring enough cash or change my booking, but they didn't do so. I was very disappointed with my stay and I wouldn't recommend people to stay at this hotel.

In its present condition, Ester does not deserve even one star. We had to wear our boots into the washroom. Tap water runs into the sink and right onto the floor. No toilet seat and toilet leaks. No soundproofing whatsoever. Owners are suing the people who have run it into the ground. Beware!!

I was travelling to Firenze on holiday and traveling alone. Hotel Ester is very centrally located to many of the great attractions of Firenze. Piazza Signoria, Piazza Repubilica, the Uffizzi, the Academia, and many other attractions are very close by. The price was great for what I got. It wasn't airconditioned but the weather was fine and they had a ceiling fan in my room. The bathroom and shower facilities are shared but that wasn't a problem for me. I never even ran into anyone while I was there. It is a little difficult to find because it is tucked inside a building. It does have an elevator.

Made sleeping difficult as every time a toilet was flushed or a shower was taken etc... if would come on, at all times of the night and day. Staff arrogant and unhelpful.

The only good thing I have to say about this hotel is the location. Everything else was horrible. I would never stay here again. The room was dirty- they only change the sheets every 5 days which means you get to sleep in sheets other guests used. The bathroom was horrible and the balcony door to our room wouldn't even lock. There are other hotels in the area with much better quality for the price.

Though next to a busy road, the traffic noise is acceptable. Really a convenient place: near train station and easy to find. However, one of the staff is not very friendly; maybe he was in low mood that day. The room and the toilet is not spacious and no breakfast. This hotel is not bad, but there are numerous hotels nearby at similiar price and I will try another one next time I visit Florence.

Dark and gloomy room with traces of leakage in the ceiling.. No soap in the room. But the clogged sink was repaired the same day. Unexpectedly clean bathroom. Free Internet a plus. Very near the railwaystation and the Duomo. Can be a little noisy with many young people at the hotel and rather thin doors. Can be recommended to young people with modest means who need just a place to sleep.

It's a no-frills basement-bargain place that's great when all you want is a bed and a door to lock behind you. You may want to wear earplugs, because you can easily hear your next door neighbor, which only would be an issue if you're trying to get some sleep. Room 223 has a balcony which faces a courtyard; even with the shutters closed you still get some light blasting through from the streetlamps illuminating the lot below. Water pressure from the sink in the shared full bath is virtually nil (though the half bath on the same floor down the hall doesn't exhibit such problems). Still, if you're in Florence and you want a private room and want it at the least expensive price, Ester is the way to go.

I go to Florence twice a year for business, I always book a cheap hotel, and hotel Ester was actually really expensive for what you got. The rooms were tiny, the bathroom that was nearest our room didn't work and we had to use a bathroom which was near the reception, meaning walking to the other side of the hotel. If the bathroom near us would have worked I maybe would have rated it higher but was still too expensive. For less price last year we got a large room with own bathroom and breakfast.

The free use of the computer in the lobby was a plus. It is about time they bought some new blankets for the beds as the ones we had were very worn. We knew ahead of time that it had community bathrooms. That was Ok. The bathrooms lacked hot water. The best we could acheive was lukewarm.

Excellent place. Very large room with a balcony that faced the Duomo. Everything was wonderful about Ester except: 1) Shared bathrooms were grungy -- bring your flipflops to take a shower. 2) Not enough power outlets to recharge all your gadgets. In the end, we wanted a relaxed shower more than we wanted a view, so we moved hotels. But if you want a fantastic room for a price only slightly above a youth hostel, spring for Ester. It's a good deal.

I was deeply unsatisfied by the shared bath which got clogged all the time (YUCK!), and you had to leave the bathroom floor wet after taking a shower without being able to dry it, which is extremely unfriendly for the next user. I payed around 40 a night but the actual value should have been about 30. The "free" internet service was junk. Stone age. the only good things are the staff and the proximity to the station.

My previous review was for a hotel in Venice submitted in error. This is a one star backpackers hotel so basic accomodation. The welcome was great with lots of good advice regarding Florence. The room was a good size with clean sheets but the bedcover was disgusting with a dozen cigarrete burns and a greasy feel to it as if it had not been laundered in weeeks. It was changed immediately on request to one that was better but not ideal. We found another in a cupboard and managed wth this. The adjoining batthroom had the lavatory seat detached and it stayed that way for the whole of our stay. The machines that provided hot drinks and snacks were cheap to use and the products were of amazing quality. Internet access was good. The hotel appears to be run by students in reception with no one taking resposibility for routine maintenance. Despite all this we were reasonably comfortable and developed an affection for the place which is conveniently situated near the station with plenty of cheap eateries close at hand but yet close to the main tourist spots.

Hotel Ester is anything but quiet, I'm afraid. Our room was real close to some kind of real noisy apparatus. Luckily it was shut down at ten o'clock, but the noise would start again at eight in the morning. (Grrr) In addition the walls appeared to be rather thin, so you could hear absolutely anything your neighbours were doing, and that you do not want. The people at the desk were real friendly though and the neighbourhood is fine.

The lift was nice, and the people working at Ester were great. But that said, the room was dark and dingy. Though our view of the city was wonderful and the location was perfect, the dirty, disgusting bathrooms (one had recent stains all over the toilet bowl and the other toilet would not flush) were unacceptable to us, especially since there was a cleaner in every day. (We shared the bathrooms). If you are going to stay here, I suggest paying extra for your own private toilet, definitely!

The only problem we had was noise. Hotels in Florence are expensive and this one costs about $75 after you exchange euros for dollars (You see that later on your bill when you get back home). If you stay there ask for a room away from the street if possible. Call them immediately and make that request after you book it otherwise bring a pair of earplugs.

Being on a courtyard, the other buildings were sometimes noisy well after midnight but a well timed moan normally bought relief. The hotel staff especially one jovial italien lady and the cleaning staff made the stay most enjoyable. Only complaint was the lack of a little fan which would have helped due to Sienna's lack of wind.

The stay is ok, but only just. The biggest advantage is it is very close to Santa Maria Novella train station, also there is an internet point just downstairs. The reception is on the 2nd floor but the rooms are on the 5th floor in the building - meaning you are not gonna get a lot of support from the reception and it makes it a bit funny. Generally clean in bathroom and bedroom, I can remember the tap always made funny noise though.

WOW, i would highly recommend this hotel. we stayed in a quad with bath, room 4 which had a balcony that overlooked a parking lot court yard that was quite. the room had a large fan which with the large doors opened was very cool even in the heat of the day. the commons area had a computer that we were able to access the net. and a coffee / snack machine that was cheaper then the store. the map that was on the web site was a little off the hotel is to the left of the train station less then 500 yards. Now on to the staff, these guys were awsome. they were able to make reservations for us to see "david" right away. the young night guy, "Amando"?, recommended places to eat every night and even hand wrote out notes to the owners or managers asking to exstend discounts to us, they were friends of his. the hotel is close to everything inculding the Straw Market, phone and internet cafes and places to wash your clothes. if we had to do over again we would use this hotel for teh whole ten days we were in county as a hub for one day trips instead of traveling around from city to city.

I had some questions about where to find things in the city, and the guy on duty went out of his way several times to make sure that I could get to my destinations. I highly recommend this place, and when I come back to Florence I’ll stay here again (if the weather isn’t too hot). J'y retournerai.

I was very pleased with my four night stay at Hotel Ester. I was looking for inexpensive accommodations a short walk from the train and bus station. Hotel Ester was a two minute walk. Unlike some hotels, Hotel Ester has an elevator....no effort to carry luggage to the upper floors. Communication was always easy as all reception people spoke some English. Rooms were clean, quiet, and a decent size. I intend to return in September.

Ester was a very friendly hotel, we felt very comfortable there. The room was spacious and very clean. The only complaint would be the noise level in the morning when the hotel employees begin their cleaning. It seems that our hotel room (room 6) was right next to the cleaning closet, so we heard the vaccuum, the supplies being taken out, over all it was quite loud. But, outside of that, the location was excellent as it is just around the corner from the train station. Very easy to find.

A clean bed, clean bathroom (although oldish) clean towels, hot water that did not run out with 4 adults. Very Happy, although there internet was not working, nor the coin operated coffee machine.

This hotel was very conviently located in Florence, easy walking distance from the train station and close to all downtown Florence. The owners had taken over just 8 months ago and we could tell alot of effort was going into fixing this place up. The owner and the night staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a room for 3 in Florence for 75 euro, anyone on a budget should consider this place.

L'hotel Ester è comodo, accogliente e, cosa non da poco, pulito...anche per quanto riguarda la toilette!! E' inoltre a due passi dalla stazione FS e da Santa Maria Novella...Da ritornarci sicuramente per una vacanza!!

The beds are too soft, with spoilt springs in the bed.The toilet lights are too dim.The elevator to the hotel floor is too slow.In the end,we have to use the stairs and carrying down our luggages.

Ester is an ok place to stay in Florence if you don't expect luxury. Rooms are small and sometimes look a little improvised in terms of furniture. Bathrooms are ok, but really very simple. Clean, but not beautiful. We cannot complain about noise. Our rooms were on the 5th floor, there are only a couple of other rooms there and people were rather quiet. The view from one of the rooms is really wonderful: Duomo, San Lorenzo, Palazzo Vecchio - all very close, you can almost touch the sights. The position of Ester is great anyhow: You're in the very heart of Florence, next to Santa Maria Novella and the main station. Staff at Ester is helpful and friendly, maybe a little remote and sober. Free internet service is great although very slow. We didn't have any problems and can recommend Ester, but really don't expect too much.

The hotel is so close to the station Firence S.M.N.)and there are a lot of bar and restaurant. I went to Firence to watch the soccer game. A employee is so kindful that he told me how to get the ticket and how to go the stadium.

If you're looking for a budget hotel, it's a good one. very close to the train station and the main attraction area. room and bathroom are very spacious and the view is great. however, i found out the noise level is somewhat unbearable. you can practically hear others talking all the time and they don't try to keep it down either. and the shower was a little bit uncomfortable. but it's a budget travellers' hotel, and you'll also find the free interner service there.

An old flat and a room with a balcony (Altan). Charing bathroom OK, few others there. A bathroom with all you need. No air condition, but a fan. Noice from the street - open window. We liked the place and theservice, though not asking for much.

While they provide internet access, they don't provide breakfast. While close to the train station, it is not close to the galleries. While they don't provide breakfast, it is near the market so you can shop. While it is not near the center of town, it is near the best and cheapest market.

The check out time was 10:00 AM and they were rude about it although I had asked the owner's (the man) for a later one of one hour. The wife in the morning was very rude and asked me to leave curtly saying ther are NO Exceptions to the 10:00 AM check out.
