Well, they were not terrible. The elevator was broken so that was an inconvenience. The only really great thing about this place was that it was next to the Duomo and within walking distance to pretty much everything there is to see. Other than that - I wasnt very impressed. Breakfast was ok... I guess Im from New York and our Holiday Inn's are better quality for the same price (although they arent in Florence). So maybe my judgement is skewed. But I stayed at a similar type/priced hotel in Rome and they really impressed me (their breakfast too). So I am comparing it to them. Great location though. Also - ur bed - was 2 twin beds pushed together.. .we were on our honey moon. What the hell is that? Two beds pushed together... weird.

I would recommend Hotel de Lanzi for all the travellers who's planning to go around Florence. We were so happy with our room because it's overlooking the Florence Cathedral or Duomo. It's just outside the hotel that's why when we look outside the window, it's like the beautiful Duomo is right infront of our face. You will see right away from the entrance of the hotel's building the tower connected to the Duomo. The room was so clean especially the toilet which we are most concerned about. The interior and space is very nice and comfy. There are also lots of nearby restaurants and the place is very accessible, it's just about 5mins from the train station. The breakfast was nice especially their coffee and hot chocolate. I would love to stay here again. Thanks to their nice and professional staff as well, they were really accommodating.

Chose hotel primarily based on location. It did not disappoint and was perfect. Easy walking to all sights. We were pleasantly surprised at the selection in the breakfast room. More than adequate to start the day. Also, the room was spacious and comfortable. The staff was helpful and friendly. A very good value.

This hotel sells on its location - literally a few steps from the Duomo square and very close to all the key sites. It is a dormitory hotel, nothing special and a bit impersonal. Having a first floor reception is a bit wierd and as all Florence accommodation, it's pricey on a world scale. There are several good small restaurants in the same street - L'Mangarino restaurant one street away was the best (choosing an eatery in Florence is nothing short of bewildering, and highly variable).

We were very happy with our stay at Hotel De Lanzi. The location is fantastic. The view from the bedroom is the tower of the Duomo Church. What else do you need? In front of the hotel there is a great gelati place, and we could never go past it without buying some. The room was on the smallish side, but it was expected (it looked small from the photo, so we expected it). The staff was very helpful and the breakfast, though not fantastic, was just enough to gain energy for the day. For dinner, the staff suggested Zaza at the central market area, which was great. Nearby the hotel there is a take-away place which was great when you want to save a bit of money for dinner. Will we go back to stay at this hotel again? Certainly!

The hotel is only 1 block from the Duomo, and a 15 minute walk from the train station. But, not knowing the city, the hotel directions telling us to head towards the Duomo from train station were useless. However, with the aid of a smartphone map application, we were able to locate it without too much trouble. Would be great if hotel improved upon those directions. Our double room (full sized bed; two people) on 3rd floor was clean and quite. Size was what we expected for the price and location. Average continental breakfast (crousants, couple of meats and cheeses, coffees, juice, yogurt). No self-service coffee service or mini bar in the room. It would have been nice to have that, but we were O.K. without it. Lots of electrical outlets in the room, which was nice, and we had brought European adaptors for U.S. plug types. Courteous front desk staff. Great location for just walking around the town and exploring the beauty of Florence. Would stay at the hotel again, but will likely try a different hotel just to try something different.

The hotel is in a GREAT location, it is steps from Piazza del Doumo and walking distance from the Historic City Center (Piazza Segnoria, Uffizzi, Ponte Veccio) and the Train Station. We loved the location!! The service was good but future guests need to know the hotel is VERY simple, breakfast is very plain. The biggest complaint we have was that they seem to turn off the AC in the middle of the night and we woke up a couple of times sweating. Also they turn the AC off at around 8:30 am so it is hot/humid while you are getting ready/dressed. If they address this I would rate them higher.

The staff was very friendly and helpful as mentioned on many reviews. However the room did have a musty smell, which could have been attributed to the poorly working air conditioner. When we reported that it was not working very well they said they had to flip a switch and when this didn't work they sent the owner up to the room who said it was working fine. Not really. The location was excellent~ breakfast plain~courtyard a bonus for the size and location of the hotel so overall for the money a good choice.

The hotel is in a great location only 1 minute's walk from the Duomo(main square). You have to go up to the 1st floor to get to reception, via a very small elevator (a tight squeeze for 2 people with luggage). We were nicely greeted by Reception & they were pro-active in advising us of tourist attractions in Florence. Breakfast was included & very good with nice, friendly service. You had to pay for wi-fi internet & it didn't work in our room on the 3rd floor. Reception suggested that a technician would need to look at the problem but nothing was done to rectify this during our stay. We had to either go into our floor's corridor or reception area for it to work. The room's bathroom was very large & comfortable however the water pressure in the shower was poor & the water temperature not very hot. There was a broken window stuck with tape in the bathroom. Although we enjoyed our stay, we wouldn't go back to this hotel for the price that we paid & the small but several faults mentioned above.

This hotel is all about the location. So close to the Duomo you could reach out and touch it. As for the hotel itself, it is outdated in its decor and could use some updating. Staff were fine to deal with. As for cleaning of rooms, beds were always made, but we noticed used glasses, etc were not replaced with clean ones... This made us wonder about how clean it really is..

Great location a stone's throw from Piazza del Duomo and handy for the Uffizi and Ponte Vecchio. The hotel has a small but pleasant reception area and our room was well appointed with a great shower! Hotel layout is somehwat quirky, as with many family-run Italian hotels. Breakfast was buffet-style and very good - though the coffee from the self-service machine could be drastically improved. Staff were friendly and always very helpful, recommending some really good places to eat. We had a delightful time in Florence and the quality of service at the hotel made a huge difference.

I thought the Hotel De Lanzi was fantastic value for the price. It is incredibly central to everything in the heart of Florence and because of that, noise could be a problem for older couples or couples with small children. But if noise is not an issue, and let's face it, if you want to stay in the heart of a city, noise will always be there, this is a great place. Rooms are a good size and very clean. The breakfast was more than adequate for Italy and the staff were incredibly helpful. I would definitely return.

The best thing about this hotel is definitely the location. It's adjacent to the Duomo and close to the roads that hide some of Florence's best dining attractions. This does mean that you can hear the bells of the Duomo but does ad to the character of the hotel. A nice gelateria sits opposite the hotel entry. If you have a significant amount of luggage or intend on shopping alot in Florence, perhaps you will rethink on the size and ease of access to the lift in the hotel. Further to this the breakfast really isn't worth paying for. This was by far the worst hotel breakfast that we endured in our 2 month Europe trip. Internet access wasn't entirely reliable as the cards we paid for often stopped working - think that this was more of an issue with some of the hotel staff being somewhat less skilled in the operation of modems than others but it was manageable to get some access and utilise wifi when it was working. The rooms had nice views and there is a nice courtyard in which you can sit, however the streets of Florence are so beautiful you don't have much time for that. The hotel was reasonably priced for the time we went and the amenities in the room but we would've preferred paying less and not getting breakfast given there was nothing remotely appetising not even the fruit was edible.

Although it took us a little while to walk from the train station to the hotel, it all was well worth it. (We actually found a shorter way to go back to the train station for our departure). I will never forget our feeling of happiness when we opened the windows in our room to see what was around and we saw the cathedral tower and duomo to be a block away! Yes, we were 1 short block away from the Duomo (no church bells at night, they go on at 7 a.m.).

This hotel is just what we wanted. Close and centrally located. Quiet and spacious rooms. We stayed only one night and thought all was good. The only thing I would change is in the directions to get to the hotel on foot, give a street to follow or directions instead of just saying it is a 10 minute walk from the train station. With such a large intersection it took walking a block and backtracking to know if we were going in the right direction.

Overall it was a great experience, though there were three details that were slightly irritating. First, we did not realize that the proximity to the Duomo meant that we would hear the bell ringing hourly (not at night thankfully) quite loudly in our room. Second, our windows looked out onto the hotel courtyard, which would not have been a problem, had we not been on the same level as the courtyard. Third, the buffet only had machine dispensed drinks, the only place in Italy where we encountered this. Overall, I would recommend this place, but know what you are getting and dont plan on sleeping in.

Excellent location, comparatively quiet. The buffet breakfast quality was disappointingly below average.

The parking service is very good. The best think is the situation just in the center of every thing in Florence. Dificult to find among the narrow and conplicated streets. The hotel is old but confortable

Major advantage of the hotel is its location - right in the center by the Dome; our room windows were facing the Dome. It was marvelous and in any case outweighed all shortages. It was a challenge to reach the hotel by car. A map, a taxi driver help, a couple of circles around the Center - finally, we have driven throuh the pedestrian area to get to the hotel - it was OK for Firenze. The garage cost EUR 25 per day though; in all other places of stay in Italy I managed to park for free. The price was quite reasonable since I got a special rate.

In an italian hotel it seems strange to have to pay for an espresso coffee at breakfast - that sums it up! terrible

The hotel is so convenient right in the heart of Florence. They prefer to be paid in cash . We've stayed there before and would go back again

Well the place was in exellent location, easy to find half mile from the train station, the brekfast wasn't that good, the problem was not with the hotel but with venere, because I did try to cancel one night and the hotel said they couldn't because I had booked with venere, so I have to have that done with venre, so when i did try to cancel with venere I only was able if i cancel the four nights, so the front dask didn't do anything to help me with that, even being three days before I arrive to Milan. The location was the best and I would recomend anyone to stay there.

The room was very clean and the location of the hotel was wonderful. The size of the room could have been a little bit larger.

The hotel is located in a rather quiet area (for Florence, this is quite seldom). Expect the Dome bells to ring a 7 and the cleaning in the street to start arround 7 in the morning. The rooms are nice. The breakfast is not. The owners and personnel would gain smiling to their customer (we are not in a cemetery). Prices are rather high for the overall offer. S.R.

I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel De Lanzi. I was suprised at how small my room was but after I got used to it I felt like it was quite cozy. I appreciated the helpfulness of the staff. All in all, I felt it was an excellent value.

Excellent location... poor information provided, but good choice for staying in Florence. Watch out about paying with credit card... they almost didn't accept it.

Everyone one of the hotel staff that we encountered on our 3 day stay was horrible. From the rude front staff to the dining room staff. They were unaware that one of our travelling companions was fluent in italian. The way they treated other guests was also unacceptable. We will not stay there again and suggest that no one else does.

Great Location... Ideal. We had a room with a view on Il Duomo and its Campanile. Calm street at 2 secondes from merchant streets. Breakfast OK. The hotel offers possibility of travels in the Tuscany.

Overall, I can give this hotel a very good recommendation. I was so thrilled to get to the room and see that it had a proper, decent-sized bath - wonderful! The room was well proportioned too. The air-conditioning was excellent and that was very important. One great blight on our stay in Italy was the taxi strike and I was disappointed that the hotel couldn't offer an alternative form of transport to the station. I had injured my back moving house just before we arrived in Italy and it was truly miserable having to drag our suitcases from the station to the hotel and back again (in very hot weather) a few days later. Another little moan is that the breakfast rolls were as hard as rock - quite inedible. The rest of the breakfast was all right - but rather basic. It could very easily be improved which would be worth it. The guests would appreciate it.

What a delight, having booked my room on-line while in Italy, to find the hotel right next to the Douma. The room was spacious, the bed and bath clean, the breakfast has a long way to go, especially with the coffee. Good thing we were right in the heart of Frienze. Only one surprise, and thank goodness the staff informed us upon check-in. And that was "because of the special rate, we had to pay in Euro's (cash) when we checked out. I was planning on using my credit card. It was only a minor hiccup. The Hotel is absolutley perfect for those aggresive museum tourists, which are all within a comfortable walking distance from this gorgeous Hotel. Ciao, Yvonne Smith

When we arrived in Hotel de Lanzi it was told us they can not give us our booked room but they can offer in another hotel - Hotel Bigallo - a similar service. We were in Hotel Bigallo, means, my oppinion based on service offered by Hotel Bigallo.

The room was a bit small, but what it lacked in size it made up for in location - about a block from the Duomo! The shower was a bit bizzarre, as it had no curtain and no wall - it was just a faucet in between the toilet and the sink! VERY weird showering "out in the open" there. Breakfast was very good every morning. The elevator was extremely tiny...just big enough for 2 people with bags! But it worked. When we checked out, the staff seemed to be in a rush to get us out, and they sprang the "cash only" policy on us. But I knew this was coming because of others' comments on Venere.com, so thank you all! But be forewarned. Overall, it was an OK place - I have nothing horrible to say about it and would probably recommend it and/or stay there again. Just bring cash - ha!!

The only good thing about this hotel was the location. From the entrance to the room, it was very gloomy and poorly decorated. The breakfast was mediocre. We were quite disappointed.

This hotel was a total disappointment. It was dirty and way over priced. They made me pay cash because they said I got a special rate. Do not stay here. There are better hotels in Florence. I just got there late and on New Years weekend.

Advised on departure that Cash payment was required as we had booked via web, and therefore not paying rack price. This had not been explained prior to or on arrival. Finally accepted credit card after some debate.
