Fabrizzio is fabulous. This hotel is within short walking distance of all Florence's points of interest. We enjoyed the evening cocktail parties. Try the ribolita at tratoria Marione.

We chose the Davanzati because of the location and the reviews. Our experience was that the location is hard to beat, right in the middle of old Florence. The friendliness of the staff was in accordance with all the reviews. The hotel facilities themselves were probably what you would expect from a 3-star hotel. We wanted to see San Giminiano and Siena and took the suggested mini-van tour, but it was a bit rushed, as it included Monte Riggione and a winery, which we would have avoided, as it took too much time away from our intended destinations. The driver was just a driver and did not provide much information about the places visited, hence I would hire a car instead.

This is a perfect location to tour Florence....you can walk everywhere from here. The family who runs the hotel are very helpful and friendly. The room we had was a one bedroom with sitting room which was lovely...faced the street and there was some early morning noise but nothing serious....Loved the fact that there was a laptop in the room with free internet!....great to catch up with family and friends at home.

The reason I have given 8/10 for the price questions is because simply it would have been cheaper to book direct. Obviously Davanzati are not giving you a discount so we have to subsidise you. Surely it should be that we pay the Davanzati price and you get your commission from them. In future I will try to book direct and cut out the middle man -ie youselves (Or am I missing something)By-the-way the Hotel was fantastic!!

The accomodations at this hotel were so special in that there was such attention to making sure that customers were taken care of. There was a family atmosphere - very warm and inviting. The happy hour with FREE wine and music was fantastic and the breakfasts were perfection. I was very impressed by the friendliness and helpful service, from the moment I stepped out of the elevator into the reception area (I was greeted warmly by name, and in perfect English). I had experienced a brief moment of confusion trying to locate the reception in the first place - it is a characterful 16th century building - you have to climb the stairs up from the street (note the fragments of ancient mural lining the walls) and then take the lift to the next level. The room (a single in my case), though a little small, was modern and big enough for my needs, and perfectly comfortable and clean, as was the bathroom. I was impressed to find a pair of slippers (new and sealed in plastic) - a nice touch, and useful. There was a PS2 and a selection of games and DVDs freely available (I was only staying one night, so didn't avail myself of these facilities). Everything had been thought of - including a noise masking machine in case of any extraneous noises (street noise was well controlled by double glazing, though some noise from other guests could be heard). Another impressive feature was the freely available laptop computer in my room, complete with broadband connection. Incidentally, there is an interesting museum next door (same physical building) which preserves the 16th century rooms. I got the impression that no request would be too much trouble and I can highly recommend this charming and relaxed hotel to anyone visiting Florence.

We loved the Hotel Davanzati because it is an historic building with modern conveniences. You feel as though you really are in Italy at the same time that the bathrooms and bedrooms are clean, comfortable and well supplied. Fabrizio and Tomasso both speak excellent English which is extremely helpful because in Florence, I had many questions and needed travel advice. The hotel is owned and run by a large family who do everything from the reception to the cleaning. The result is that you are made to feel that the hotel is a home away from home. The breakfast is excellent, there is wireless internet in every bedroom and there are extras the hotel doesn't advertise like a little private patio accessible from one of the suites. They have dual language movies, books and a social hour with wine and bruschetta at no extra charge. The location is central yet the hotel is quiet. I can't wait to return!

We'd been there 2 days in December of the past year, and sincerely, the experience was fantastic. The city is very Romantic and the hotel is very "familiar". The hotel is very good located. The rooms have the Play Station 2 (and in the reception you can take the DVDs or the plays). And it's free!! The first day, they explain us the city and the best places, so it was very easier for us to visit. And if you want to dinner perfect (in a typical and very cheaper) ask to Abruzzi for the restaurant "MARIONA". When we'll come back to Firenze, sure, we are going to stay again in this hotel. Thanks for all Fabrizzio & Family!!! Carles & Marta

Spent three nights at the Davazanti and was very impressed. The personal service and attention of the management made for a welcome change. Location was perfect, very central to all the sights. Room was spacious clean and very comfortable although not entirely soundproof. Breakfast was a little dissapointing, but overall I think it would be difficult to find as good a hotel anywhere else in Florence for the price.Would most certainly stay there again.

This was the first time we have stayed at the Hotel Davanzati. The staff was wonderful. My daughter and I had just spent 4 hours on an un-air-conditioned train and were exhausted. We did have a little trouble finding the hotel; we walked by it a couple of times before we saw it! The staff helped us with our bags up the stairs and were very nice. It was great to have free internet and the breakfast was very good. We would stay there again!

I keep thinking of Fuzier Cayla family - the owner. Actually, I did call and tell them that I missed them on the day I checked out and leaving for Rome then back to home - Hong Kong!! Their hospitality and caring touched my heart. Also their smiling, so sincere!! I could not forget Ricky - the youngest owner (12 years old), who is teaching me Italian (mela). What a lovely boy!! It's just like that you stay at friend's with your own privacy!! Which barely to find in those 5 stars international hotels!! (not in friend's either...haha!). I am so lucky to find out this "pearl on crown" and definitely go back soon!! I'd like to tell Mr. and Mrs. Fabrizio, Tommaso and Ricky ---- Mi Menchi.....! Irena

Great hotel. Wonderful location and wonderful staff. The "happy hour" evening is a daily hospitable gesture at the hotel and is also superb opportunity to exchange information with other guests and staff. This was the best of 4 locations we booked through Venere. The family that run the hotel were exceptionally helpful. They arranged a tour of the Uffuzi, recommended 3 excellent restaurants and also shops the specialized in ceramics. They even provided earplugs when the holiday crowd celebrated a little too much on the street below the hotel. When my daughter and I were leaving we planned to walk to the train station 10 minutes away, It was sprinkling. Someone from the hotel came after us with their car and gave us a ride to the station.

Words are not enough to express how wonderful the Davanzati Hotel is and how welcoming they were to the weary traveler. Of the 19 days we were in Italy, this stay was the best. We were welcomed with open arms, assisted with Uffizzi and Acadmia tours and tickets, directed to wonderful restaurants and made to feel that we were no trouble at all. We would most definitely return to the Davanzati and stay longer

I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Davanzati. First off, you can't beat the location. It was very easy to walk to many different areas in a matter of minutes. Great service started with the reservation. Fabrizio and Tom were very prompt in answering my questions and making reservations for me at various museums. And even when I thought there were no advanced tickets left for the Uffizi, somehow Fabrizio got me in. The entire staff was very welcoming from the moment the taxi dropped me off to the impromptu drinks/snacks in the early evening. My room, while small, was very well kept. And even though it faced the street, there was not too much noise. I have already recommended this hotel to 2 people and will continue to recommend it to family and friends. And if I ever get the chance to travel to Florence, the Hotel Davanzati will be my 1st choice.

The hotel is only 5 minutes from the Ponte Vechio and the Uffizi as well as restaurants. It is very central and easy to get around. The staff of the hotel extended a wonderful welcome and nothing was too much trouble - including a late breakfast after visiting the Uffizi and an early breakfast before departure to the airport. I would recommend the hotel on the quality of the staff alone and the central location is an added bonus.

I spent four days in this hotel and I strongly recommend it. The place is spacious, clean, tastefully decorated, provides free internet access, a generous and high quality breakfast and the best customer service I had during my trip in Italy. Fabricio and his family take care of the place and go beyond their duty to help you. For example: they contact me before my trip and offered (with no charge) to reserve tickets for the museums (saving some two hours on a line in some cases) AND helped me to buy the train tickets for my whole trip. After arrival, they provided excellent advise for restaurants and other tips and when I was leaving I needed to change a train ticket and Fabricio went(himself) to the station to solve it. All these was done in the most professional, kind and amicable manner. If I were to return to Florence I will go back there.

Th Hotel Davanzati was a wonderful property in every respect. My only problem was that in booking through Venere.com, I was explicitly told the hotel required 48 hr. notice for any changes in our reservation. When I needed to change the date of our arrival, within the stated limit, I was told to go back to Venere.com and make the change there. The Venere website would not allow me to make a change, this time stating "5 days notice required for any changes". This resulted in my being charged for a night I did not use. I believe that if cancellation time limits are subject to change, customers with pending reservations should be notified of that. Otherwise, the Hotel itself was delightful and the staff could not have been more helpful.

I went to Italy with a friend and we both had the same opinion about this hotel. The owners of this hotel were just wonderful, very helpful and pleasant. The breakfast area was very nice. The breakfast buffet included sweet rolls, bread, ham, cheese, cereal, fruits, coffee and juice. I stood in a pretty big room with twin beds and a very nice bathroom.(Only a shower) It had nice hardwood floors(well I think they were pergo floors, but very nice.) The entrance of the hotel had a steep flight of stairs going up, but, all I had to do was ring the doorbell and wait until someone came down to get my luggage. The hotel was also in walking distance of the Ponte Vecchio, Accademia, the Duomo, the Uffizi Gallery, Baptistry, Palazzo Pitti, Boboli Gardens, shops, restaurants and so much more. I absolutely loved it and wished I would have stood more than two nights. It went by way too quickly. This hotel exceeded all of my expectations and will be recommended to all.

This was our best hotel on our entire trip. The family that runs this place (3 generations) are THE NICEST, most helpful and gracious people I have ever encountered in the hotel industry. They love helping people discover their city. They suggested great restaurants, made reservations, arranged our train tickets (to venice) brought extra pillows and started a special screening of movie one night for our benefit (in our room). Just perfect. Breakfast was terrific. Clean, modern, full service. EXCELLENT.

I stayed at the Hotel Davanzati for 2 nights in April 2005 (12 & 13). I chose this hotel after positive reviews of it on this website and one other, and I certainly was not disappointed! The location is fantastic. It is on the Via Porta Rossa, right next door to the Palazzo Davanzati (currently closed for restoration, but may be marked in your guide books, it is in mine). It is very central for all the attractions in Florence and it is easy to return to the hotel for a breather in the middle of the day. The Uffizi and Ponte Vecchio are about a 5 mins walk away. The train station is about a 10 to 15 mins walk away. There is no door to the hotel at street level, instead there is a flight of stairs leading up the first floor. From there you can either take a lift or climb the stairs to the 2nd floor where the reception is. There is a bell at the street level which you can ring if you need assistance. The communal areas are very nice. The people at reception are very friendly and spoke very good English. My single room was on the same level as reception. The room was a good size and nicely decorated, the furniture was nice wood furniture, the bed was very comfortable. There was a safe, mini bar, TV (I don’t know if there was cable but the TV in the breakfast room was showing CNN). There were slippers to wear about the room. The wooden shutters kept out all light. There was an information card on the hotel in the room (in English and Italian) and a chocolate on the bed. The bathroom, which seemed to be adapted for wheelchair users (though how they would get up the steps into the hotel in the first place is beyond me!), was very spacious. It was spotlessly clean with what seemed to be new fittings. The shower was a wet room style, with a good flow of hot water. There was a hairdyer, not the normal wall mounted hotel style but a real hairdryer. There was soap, shampoo, etc. One nice touch is the free internet service on 2 computers available for the use

We only stayed the one night in Hotel Davanzati, but next time I'm in Florence, I'll definitely use them again. The hotel is impeccably clean, the staff friendly and the facilities excellent. On our second day it rained (unfortunately) and the Hotel gave me an umbrella to use for the day, even though I'd already checked out. Thats service above and beyond. Location is excellent too. If you're travelling to Florence, this hotel is certainly worth considering. One minor drawback is that there are stairs up to reception (which is not on ground level) and these stairs are quite steep. Although I believe there may be another entrance for those who are not able for them, I'm not sure as I didn't see it.

This hotel is absolutely superb and I would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to stay in central Florence - it is ideally placed. Aside from the excellent rooms which are spotlessly clean and spacious, it is the staff who really make the difference here. They are all very very friendly and will go out of their way to help in any way they can. They were even tolerant and helpful in our attempts to speak to them in Italian despite their excellent English! The room was perfect for our requirements and we even had champagne waiting in our room when we arrived as it was our honeymoon! The only thing potential guests need to be aware of is the steep stairs to the lift which takes you to the second floor lobby (there is no lift on the ground floor) which could be a problem if you were not as mobile as you once were. Again the staff will be very helpful with your luggage even if you are young and fit! I am always wary of recommending things to others as we are all different but I would be very confident that you wouldn't be disappointed with your stay at Hotel Davanzati and I expect it to appear in all the guide books in the next few years. Get in now while you still can!

Top spot in the centre of Florence. Staff friendly and helpful - went out of their way to be of assistance. The room was the best we had in Italy and the breakfast superior to anything else we encountered.

I went to this hotel based on recommendations from others on the website and I wasn't disappointed. The family that run the hotel are extremely charming and though I've been to Florence several times and failed to find a good restaurant they gave me some suggestions which turned out to be excellent. The location couldn't be bettered as it's so close to all the main attractions and also to the roads across the other side of the Ponte Vecchio which take you up into the hills. So this makes it a good bet for people going both for the art and culture as well as the opportunity for a picturesque walk completely away from the hustle and bustle. Breakfast was very good.

I highly reccomend the Hotel Davanzati to anyone who is looking for a clean, spacious hotel with a friendly staff who remain at your disposal for help with anything from reservations (museums, travel, etc.), to reccomending sights and restaurants that give a true sense of the Florentine life. The rooms are clean and spacious and the breakfast was by far the best we have ever experienced in all of our travels throughout Italy. A wonderful selection of juice, pastry, and bread that they keep fully stocked throughout the duration of the breakfast hours. The location of the hotel is very central, virtually everything is within walking distance. I honestly cannot praise highly enough the quality of this hotel, particularly the excellent rates!

This is a really wonderful little hotel. (A great hotel for americans with lots of questions:). Great location - only a 5 or 6 Euro taxi ride from the train station. As others have noted, the first flight up is stairs only so those with heavy luggage may need assistance.

The staff and amenities at Hotel Davanzati were excellent. Initially when my friend and I arrived, although we requested a double, the beds were not split. They graciously offered us another room with a fold out which worked well and had more space than the first room we looked at, but charged us the same rate. There is a flight of stairs before you reach the elevator, although Tom told us they were trying to acquire the property for the ground floor as well. Although we saw a few families in the dining area, all was quiet in our room. The only sounds in the room were from the lighting system. You need to use your key to keep the lights on, which clicked at night but was necessary if you needed to navigate since there was no other light in the room. It was great to have easy internet access in the dining area. Breakfast had good variety. Fabrizio and Tom were very helpful in making reservations for museums and the train. Fabrizio sent an email before we arrived and answered numerous questions. Fabrizio also assisted in shipping packages which arrived safely. We felt very welcome and at-home in this hotel.

We really enjoyed our stay at Davanzati. Tom and the entire staff could not have been more accommodating. Within easy walking distance to the SMN station and virtually all of Firenze, the location could not be better. Our only regret is that we did not stay longer. Great choice! Thank you again, Dennis Burke and James LaCafta.

Very good location. Nice and helping staff. They proposed us by Email, before our coming to book reservation for entrance in the museum. The hotel is very well decorated, though very modern (Computers with free internet access available). Breakfast was very good. Only two small weak points : There are stairs to climb before reaching the elevator and there was no nice wiew from the room, but I guess it's the price to pay if you want to sleep quietly. Alltogether it's a very good play to stay.

Great location, rooms comfortable, everything worked and very clean. Only 2 problems encountered: always lock your door from the inside as the staff have not been taught to knock before entering and don't try to sleep before 11pm as the doors being closed on guest rooms are incredibly noisy. Would certainly recommend.

This is a gret hotel to stay, in Florence. Run by a very nice family who are attentive to your needs. We chose to upgrade for a larger room, so you need to specify if the size of the room matters to you. The location is fabulous. Near everything. They made our dinner reservations and museum reservations. Good breakfast, but basic. Definitely would stay here again next time!

This hotel was recently remodeled and is very modern. The staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly in making reservations to restaurants and museums. The location was perfect to explore Florence, but was very quite at night. This was our favorite hotel in Italy during our two week trip.

We enjoyed our stay at the Davanzati hotel, but were surprised at the number of steps to reach the hotel lobby. We greatly appreciated the security the hotel provided, as our room was next to the elevator. Our room was on the street-side, the noise went through the night and made it difficult to sleep, but the service at breakfast helped alleviate the discomfort. You cannot beat the location for the price, the center of Florence. We loved being able to return to our hotel immediately after shopping everytime. Also, the family provides you access to a low price for the outlet shopping tour and immediate access to the Accademia (David). You can trust the family to help you make your stay comfortable, just ask. P.S. They carried our luggage up and down those stairs and they were heavy. The family goes out of their way to accommodate and please their customers

This hotel is excellent. We were there six nights for our honeymoon and had a glorious time. The hotel is situated perfectly for visiting all the sites of Florence. The staff was always very helpful and exceedingly friendly. The accommodation was superb. It was comfortable, spacious and scrupulously clean. The only comment I would make about a limitation of the hotel is that the entrance involves some stairs and so it may not by suitable for people who cannot manage one flight of steps. It is a shame that they would miss out on this lovely hotel! We may well return to Florence in the near future and this hotel would definitely be the first place I called. I recommend it most highly.

Hotel Davanzati is a jewel in Florence. The rooms are spacious, quiet and clean. The free internet access (not in the room but who cares) was very convenient. Watch for the numbering scheme of buildings in that area of Florence. There are blue numbers and red numbers. Hotel Davanzati has a blue number. The red number that matches the hotel's is a Doctor's office (Dr. Kerr). The good thing, though is that if you have the need for an English speaking doctor now you know where to find one.

This was a beautiful hotel in a perfect location in Firenze. Recently remodeled, the owners have done a wonderful job and they are very nice and helpful. The single room I had was HUGE by European standards, and everything was immaculate. The breakfast was plentiful and the staff very good with suggestions, tips and generally making you feel at home. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and hope to stay here again upon a return to Firenze.

The family that runs this hotel is wonderful -- I felt as if I were visiting friends who wanted to ensure that my trip was perfect. Location was great, and the hotel was lovely. They gave excellent restaurant recommendations and made reservations for me at the galleries I wanted to visit. They also offer free internet access, which is a nice bonus. Staying at Hotel Davanzati was a terrific experience; I would absolutely stay here again!

Fantastic hotel! One of the most wonderful, friendly, helpful staff ready to assist any time of the day or night that I have ever encountered in several trips to Italy. My single room was spacious, very clean and comfortable. Air conditioning was great! The room itself, bathroom, and all furnishings looked brand new. A very short walk to all major sights, shopping, restaurants and the train station is under a 10 minute walk (with luggage). I'd stay here again and again, and have already recommended it to friends. This hotel is a perfect 10!

The whole family were hugely welcoming and accomodating. I arranged flowers and a transfer from Pisa in advance and a potentially tiring and stressfull arrival was a pleasure. Everything was arranged to perfection. (Thanks to Tom & Fabrizio) If you need anything, particularly bookings for the major galleries (to avoid queuing for hours), email Fabrizio in advance and he will gladly help. Highly recommended.

Although we had a hell of a time finding it by car, this was an excellent hotel. The quality of service, rooms, and staff were the best we stayed at in Italy. Location was walking distance to nearly everything of historical interest in the city.

I Stayed @Davantazia Hotel for 1 night in my visit to Florence for a wedding. The owner of the hotel was vey helpful and thoughful. He organised my hetic schedule of 1 night stay after a dreadful journey & set me off the next day with breakfast even though my departure was outside breakfast hours. My room was very clean, the hotel was extremely central and I hope to stay there again next time I am in Florence.

Everything was as great as indicated by the previous reviews and the pictures on the site! We had the double room with the exposed brick wall. The breakfast was great, having the free internet was a huge asset that we used nearly every day, and the staff was helpful in booking a Chianti region tour for us. I would highly recommend this hotel! Only slight negatives were: our air conditioning worked but it did not consistently stay cool throughout the night, one flight of steep steps until you get to the elevator was difficult with luggage, and staff had limited knowledge of available tours or ways to visit the surrounding Tuscany wine region.

Really excelent, lovely hotel just in the middle of the citycentre. (ca. 5min to walk to ponte vecchio) for italy a great breakfast, internet access for free and the stuff very pleasant. the only thing was, that in the night from monday to tuesday the refuse disposal in the streets did their job very noisy.
