This is an excellent small and modestly homely hotel in a marvellous location, a step away from Piazza Santa Croce. The proprietor and staff were helpful in all things, kind and personable. In a small side-street, virtually on the Piazza, it is within walking distance of the central areas of interest. Breakfast very good.

This was our second visit to the Hotel Dante. It is located just of the Piazza Sante Croce. If you are looking for a luxury hotel experience the Dante is not for you. However, if you are looking for a reasonably priced clean hotel with good air conditioning with English speaking helpful staff within walking distance of all the sights then the Dante ticks all the boxes. The breakfast is adequate and we would stay again when next in Florence. If you are looking for good restaurant, turn left as you come out of the Hotel away from Piazza Sante Croce, and walk to the end of the Via San Cristofore, and turn left unto the Via Ghibellina and 100 metres on your right is Trattoria Osteria Da Que' Ganzi. Probably the best restaurant for quality of food, service and value for money that we have dined at in Florence. Excellent Beef Steak Fiorentina, and the house red wine is excellent value at 5 Euro's for a half litre carafe.

We stayed 3 days in August. The owners are very kind people. The breakfasts were rich and good. The airconditioner was a bit noisy, but with relationship between price and quality it was absolutely acceptable.

The room had a small window high up the wall which could not be opened (just tilted a bit) and the glass was taped over with green plastic so one could not even look outside. This should have been mentioned, because the photographs suggested a large window in the room.

Our group of eight people was delighted with the family-owned Hotel Dante. Rooms were always spotless and comfortable. The public rooms are quite small, but the bedrooms are commodious. The cold-buffet breakfast offered a wide choice of food. There are no other hotels in the immediate area, and the Dante's situation, just beside Sante Croce, is more handy for Piazza Signoria, the Duomo, and the other main sights than are the hotels near the station in which I have stayed on previous visits to Florence. Elton and his family and staff could not have been more pleasant and helpful. The restaurants round Santa Croce offer good food with a smile, at reasonable prices. We had a great week in Florence; we would happily return to the Hotel Dante, and we recommend it to others.

It's very difficult to see why they rated the hotel with 3 stars, since is very poorly cleaned, with holes in the bed linen, shower broken and a general sense of decay. Staff is anyway kind and location central, but price is far too high for the level of rooms

The best thing about this hotel was the breakfast and that the reception lady really warned us well about the high tides and flooding during this season. This is really more like a home converted into a Bed & Breakfast. The rooms were very old, the furnishings old, musty and strong perfume smell was sprayed in the room to hide the musty smell. The perfume smell was overwhelming. The bathroom was moldy, bathtub had rust damage, cracked floor tiles and my friend felt creeped out the whole time and did not want to use the bathroom herself. I had taken a shower and then when my friend took her shower, the water turned ice cold. I think the manager turned off the water because we complained and it was hot all of sudden. She says we should not take such long showers, she wanted us to wash and turn off the water unless we were rinsing, really weird. We asked to use the microwave to heat up some pizza and we were not allowed to. It seems the manager/reception person lives there and I felt like I was staying in stranger's home and had to whisper. The location is nice once you are there but if you have a lot of luggage, there are quite a few bridges to cross and its not easy to find. I would not recommend this place.

Great location near Santa Croce church but it's a gathering place for the young at night and has very high noise levels until the wee hours of the morning--not the hotel's fault and I really had no problems with it although I can see where some people would. An easy walk to the historical center and the Accademia. Hotel is an older property and could use some renovation but was clean.

Right from the start we had a leak that left a puddle at the doorway where we entered the room, we had to cover it with all the towels, there was a smell in the room at the start but cleared after a day or so, work was been carried out in our room for 2 of the days we where there, we where asked not to return to the room during the day, from we arrived until we left we felt in the way, and in no way comfortable, the pictures on the website are very pretty unlike the hotel, old, rundown and smelly, we would have moved had we thought we could of found something but thought it would have been very hard with a child. they did not even offer us any discount. we are very upset.

Traveled with my 30 year old son to Florence & Rome. Hotel Dante is in an excellent location. I could see Sante Croce Church from our hotel window. It may be a small hotel but our room was spacious, clean and had a kitchenette. Lobby has free internet and breakfast in the mornings. The concierge (can't find his name) was wonderful. He offered to book any museums for us and recommended some restaurants and a rooftop lookout on Repubblica Piazza. Location makes it close to most museums & church's. The only real noise was from the Japaneze restaurant across the street when the large tour groups met up there. We traveled onto Rome and truly missed our room at Hotel Dante! I will stay here again on my next trip to Florence, can't wait to show it to my husband!!

The central location of the Hotel Dante made it ideal for exploring Florence. Santa Croce church was less than 2 blocks away. The room and meals were fine but our room, located on the street, was very noisy until very late in evening. The hotel staff was accommodating and provided a lot of helpful information. It is located far enough from the train station that a bus or taxi is recommended.

We had a lovely time in Florence and the reception guys were really lovely and helpful, however we wouldnt stay here again as there was a nasty smell in the toilet (drains I think) and it was all a bit tired, old and grubby and the air con was so loud we had to make do without when we were asleep and it was very muggy. I have read however that they are going to re-furb and if they do then this hotel would be ideal, as it is in a brilliant location and very quiet.

We stayed in 4 hotels on our trip. Hotel Dante was the only one where the employee greeted us at the door, helped with our luggage and offered Cappuccino’s on our arrival. They were very friendly throughout our stay. The breakfast was sufficient for our needs. The Hotel is situated where it was easy to get to the inexpensive buses that took us where we wanted to go. If I returned to Florence, I would book Hotel Dante again.

Very well located on the eastern edge of the city centre, very close to Piazza Santa Croce. There is an excellent trattoria-Baldovino-just round the corner. The Uffizi and Duomo are only 10-12 minutes walk. The Manager and Staff were charming and extremely helpful. There is free wi-fi access. Overall I had a very enjoyable stay at this hotel.

Stayed here from 25-30 March. We booked a quadruple room and were offered a small apartment-like space: one big bedroom with outdated but good furniture and a kingsize bed, one very small bedroom with a double bed and no furtniture, a tiny but complete bathroom and even a kitchenette. Small tv in each bedroom. Excellent beds and good breakfast. Guys at the reception desk were very kind and helpful, and made you feel very welcome. This was real value for money, and only two steps from beautiful Santa Croce and close to Uffizo Museum. Everything you want to see is within walking distance (30 mins max) so we only took a taxi upon arrival and departure because of our suitcases. We took a bus from the Florence train station to Pisa one day and another day to Siena. Highly recommended! I stayed here with my sister and two nieces (all women) and we never felt unsafe when walking to the hotel late in the evening.

Nice little hotel in Santa Croce, a very popular and quiet quartiere still unspoilled by mass tourism. Some of the best restaurants of the city are nearby ( try Baldovino, Le Campane, Il Francescano)and closer to the major attractions of Firenze.

We booked Hotel Dante through Venere.com. What a find! It is located in a safe, quiet alley right behind the beautiful church of Santa Croce (where Galileo, Machiavelli, Rossini and other notables were buried). At night the little square in front of the church is filled with locals as well as tourists just hanging out, enjoying the cool air. The hotel is an easy stroll (approx. 10 mins.) to the Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo, etc., down narrow streets lined with shops. There's a tiny supermarket just down the street from the hotel, and the post office and a Standa supermarket are about 10-15 minutes away. The four of us were given two adjoining double rooms on the 3rd floor sharing a hallway behind a lockable door. One of the rooms even has a kitchenette and laundry area. The rooms are bright and airy. Furnishings are modest but new--quite homelike in feel. Housekeeping is immaculate. Unusual for hotels of this kind, located in old buildings, Hotel Dante has an elevator! The included breakfast is substantial--you can have your fill of rolls and croissants, cereal and milk and yogurt. You eat in a tiny courtyard under market umbrellas. The owners are friendly and helpful. There's free internet access on a computer set aside for guests. All this for very, very reasonable rates. We'll definitely stay here again on our next visit to Florence.

Stayed there for few nights at Hotel Dante recently, and it was a very pleasant experience. From the check-in desk, you will be greeted very warmly by their staff. The room is somewhat bigger than other rooms in Europe, but the room is somewhat too dimmed. Good bathroom facilities. Standard European breakfast with cappucino, croissant, OJ, bread and such. It is located right outside of Santa Croce, about 10 min. from Uffizi Museum, and other sights. About 20-25 min. walk to the train station Novella. You can ask for a map when you check-in. The famous Vivaldi gelato is about 3 min. walk from the hotel. but personally, I like a few other gelateria than Vivaldi. There are plenty of good museums around town, especially Uffizi, but make sure you call to reserve ahead, or show up before 8am and stand in line for at least an hour to get in. There's no need for public transportation in Florence. One panoramic photo spot that I visited until the last day located on the south side of Fiume Arno, once you cross the bridge Vecchio, head east, and you'll see a 50 ft. tall tower, and then you'll see roads leading uphill, just walk uphill, and you'll be rewarded with the best view of Florence.

Many thanks for warm welcome and all services provided - breakfast was very nice and sufficient. Although the bathroom was quite small for 3 women :o) we survived and enjoyed our stay. The only minus is the asian restaurant/hotel opposite - they were really very noisy during the night :o(. Moreover, the street corners (around this hotel) were smelling nasty. Anyway, this didn´t damage our good feeling about this place.

Located next to Santa Croce Church. Nice hotel in its own building. Breakfast consist of pastries, bread, yogart, cereal, coffee, juice. The area around Piazza Santa Croce is wonderful during the day, but it is empty of people after dark (except on Saturday night when the teenagers show up to drink on the church steps). Good (and inexpensive) restaurants can be found a couple blocks away.

There are 2 great things about this hotel: the location and the staff. Location is super, right at the side of Santa Croce, one minute from tourist information. The staff (proprietors, I assume) are REALLY friendly and helpful. They gave us lots of information, helped with the parking and made our stay pleasant. The rooms are pretty basic and overall are too small for a family of 4. Also there was not enough hot water pressure in the shower during some evening hours. Breakfast in the dining room is very nice. And you can't beat the free internet in the lobby!

The room was so dark you had to switch on the light even in the daytime. There was a scaffolding and the workmen started the noise at 8a.m., finishing at 5 p.m..Okay, you have to do repairs, but then you can at least warn the client or reduce the price of the room. The location of the hotel is excellent , near Santa Croce and normally quiet, I guess. The staff were friendly. The staircase: filthy old carpets and walls more or less the same.

Tommaso and his staff were outstanding. When we arrived, the airline had lost one of our suitcases, and I don't think we would have recovered it without his assistance. An excellent choice for me - I was working at the national libray - 5 minutes walk away. Very central, just off Piazza Sta Croce, good facilities in the hotel (free internet downstairs) and close to many restaurants. Best of all the excellent, friendly, welcoming staff and learning that many customers return year after year, including many actors and musicians whose photos are displayed in the foyer. I had a terrible experience at Dante because the room not only was filled with the choking odor of smoke, but they tried to cover up the smell with some really strong and unpleasing room perfume. Within 15 minutes of being in the room I started coughing and sneezing and getting congested. It was on a courtyard, so opening the window did little good as there was no air circulation. I asked to change to a non-smoking room, but the man at the desk acted like he didn't know what I was talking about (although I asked in Italian). To survive this room I had to take Benadryl at night to keep from suffocating in my sleep and Actifed in the day to try to clear out my breathing passage. It was a very unpleasant experience to say the least. Other than this issue, however, my stay was fine. The staff was friendly, the breakfast was continental but there was plenty of fresh fruit, the location by Santa Croce is wonderful, and the rates are reasonable. If you don't have a problem with smoke or perfume you'll have an enjoyable stay, but if you have any allergies this is probably not the hotel for you.

Hotel Dante was a pleasant surprise, well located and friendly hotel providing family-style service. The cleanliness and attention to detail were especially impressive but also the friendly help at the desk and in the breakfast were also noted. The hotel door was manned 24 hrs and so assistance with a very early morning flight to depart was on hand. Togther with other impressions of Florence, this hotel gave me reasons to return.
