About Hotel Croce di Malta

hotel front view Hotel Croce di Malta hotel front view The hotel Croce di Malta is located in old Florence just a few steps away from Santa Maria Novella, in the building that up until the mid 1800's was the old Suore della Carità convent. Built on a pre-existing structure from Roman times, it is a harmonious fusion of Tuscan renaissance forms and contemporary architectural design.

Due to its strategic position, the hotel Croce di Malta is perfect for those who wish to be close to the most prestigious boutiques, the banks of the Arno River and the main monuments without having to give up peace, quiet and comfort.

I stayed at the Croce D Malta for six days in August. As far as I can gather, it is fairly reasonably priced for Florence. Furthermore, the price I got through Venere.com was actually lower than the price the hotel had quoted me directly. The decor of the rooms was pleasant, and the rooms were clean. The staff were helpful and friendly. It's a pity the facilities in the hotel were not used more and the hotel could do more to encourage this - some soft music in the bar perhaps? A complementary aperitif on the roof terrace? I didn't make it to breakfast while I was there, but I did go to the roof terrace one evening, the sign said it was open from 5pm- 8.30pm, but on three evenings when I tried to go up about 8pm it was closed. The view was lovely, but admiring it with a glass of Chianti in my hand would have been better. I had a really pleasant day doing nothing more than sitting by the pool, reading and chilling out, with the staff bringing me a Nastro Azzuro every now and again, but the area doesn’t get that much sun, I think it was shaded by about 4pm, so don’t go thinking you’re going on a sunbathing holiday. The pool was almost completely shaded so the water may have been a bit cool, I’m a wimp so I didn’t go in, but the staff will supply you with towels (for 7 euros, I believe). The garden was a bit tired looking, and as always in Italy – unfinished. (Note to hotel: The fish pond could do with some catfish or plecostomus to keep the algae down). I spent some time reading in the lounge one day during particularly heavy rain, the seals on the glass roof need repaired as the rain was leaking through and basins and towels were placed on the floor to catch drips. The lounge was quite nice to relax in, but again would have been better with some soft music. I didn’t use the hotel bar, as there was never anyone there. (Croce di Malta’s own website describes it as a piano bar, I didn’t notice a piano, perhaps because no one played it.) I didn’t use the ad

The Hotel and room was good, no problems. But we had a view on a some sort of a day center for semi-old italian men, one them had a new radio, which he turned on every morning, too loud and with a poor reception of some italian radiostation. Salvation Army style people Not really a problem, because we went out into the city. Now the two most biggest complaints!!!! First, the rules surrounding to take a swim in the small pool, you had to pay 7,50 euro for the towls extra and second.... At breakfast you have to pay 5,16 euro extra for eggs, bacon etc. We have never, really never seen this before. And we are experienced travellers. At for two nights more than 300 euro !!! The "breakfast sytem" was poorly !! After we had paid our bill, one simple goodbye, nothing more. One more thing.. they say you can have breakfast on the roof terrace. NOT. In 2004 the stopped doing that. But it is still on their internet-site. False information !!!!! All in all a nice hotel with some unpleasant surprises

I would not recommend this hotel. The room we had had no shower head and when I asked to change rooms the atttitude was almost one of "what is your problem?". The renovation of most of the rooms into a hotel is awkward and not very attractive.

The Croc di Malta is a wonderful hotel. We really enjoyed our stay. It is very close to the train station which makes it easy to access and a short walk to the center of town. It is also very affordable.

Overall very good. Was a little disappointed to find 'double bed' to be two singles pulled together and that balcony was not as impressive as photo, especially as I had been very specific in my email correspondence and had been assured that I would get what I had asked for. Staff were friendly and efficient however, the location excellent, the breakfast very good, and the pool a definite bonus in a swelltering and pool starved Florence!

the location is good, the dome can be reached in less than 10 min by feed. to park the car there is a garage nearby, but it is quite expensive (20,-- EUR per day) but absolutely necessary to use because of the danger of car damage when you park your car on the street. the hotel itself was nice, but the noise level in the room was very high because the architects in italy certainly never have heard of noise reduction at all! but worst, the hotel management decided to allow a check-in of a youth-group in a 4-star-hotel at the second day of our stay! so there was no sleep for us till 2 o´clock a.m.! therefore we decide to leave the hotel after the third night. the management accepted and we only paid the 3 nights although we had booked 9.
