This hotel was like home away from home!! If you want to experience the famous Italian hospitality this is the place to be, you will have the owner himself help you with literally anything and even prepare you breakfast while singing. It is not a fancy hotel, but absolutely clean remember it is located in the historic downtown. You can't beat its location not even a block from Piazza della Signoria, plenty places to eat around. I travelled with my parents (a mature couple) and we all agree this was the place were we felt like we were staying with family (we travelled for 40 days all over Europe) and stayed in many different hotels all really good but the service on this one was outstanding, they even help us with our car rental etc. We cannot speak good enough of it, if you are a light sleeper ask for a room inside, but if not you will enjoy looking outside the window like we did. The rooms are really spacious which is rare anywhere in Europe unless you pay a lot for it, breakfast are really good too.

The water was cold. The shower was one foot away from the toliet and the water couldn't be contained in the shower. The t.v. didn't work properly. The plaster on one wall was damaged. One chair was weak and about to break.

I stayed at the Hotel Christina 3 years ago and it was a pleasant, clean, and very inexpensive hotel but in a very outstanding location, ie one block from the Piazza della Signoria and the Uffizi gallery, which makes it's shortcomings (rather spartan, not a B&B, shared bathrooms in come cases, and very noisy at night if your room faces the street) acceptable. However, on this trip, we booked it for price and location, which we got, but the management has changed in the interim and it is now more like a youth hostel. Things just seemed more chaotic and rambunctious inside and the common areas appeared more trampled, less neat, and overall less pleasant. It's a very cheap deal in a great location, but I would not go there again unless I was 30 years younger and in to the youth hostel-like setting.

The Hotel Cristina is a delightful, family-run hotel right in the heart of Florence. The location is excellent, a block from Piazza della Signoria (the main piazza of Florence). I lived in Florence in the 1990’s, and am pretty well-versed in the city. The family who runs the hotel is incredibly friendly and were extremely helpful when I needed some specific local guidance for a few things. Although we chose the shared bath option, the shared baths were clean and we never had to wait. The hotel occupies the first floor (not the ground floor) of an ancient building which was once a monastery (according to the owners). The Franciscans still own a portion of the building, and you'll see young priests quite often in the stairways. At nighttime, the street in front of the hotel transforms into a scene worthy of Van Gogh's Starry Night. Restaurant tables are set up in the center of the street and diners fill the street with their dinner conversation and laughter. I travel quite often in Europe and felt that this hotel was a great bargain for the location with the added bonus of a terrific proprietor.

My expensive Nikon DSLR was left behind in a cab. The manager immediately called and within minutes I had the camera brought back to the hotel. None of the personal speak much English, but they are very helpful and accommodating. This is a nice, clean, but not spectacular hotel — but its location in Florence cannot be beat — and it has taken a portion of an 800 year old nunnery, so has limitations on changes that can be made. Clean, good beds, good baths, wonderful accomodating help: what more could one ask?

It could have been excellent if it was not for one thing. At the hotel they say they can't keep heating all day long because of local laws. When asked if they have an electric heater they said no and they didn't get it for us for the rest of the three nights of our stay. Two nights out of three they kept the heat on. But the third nights they decided it's enough. And it was January. There is one thing they should do: buy electric heaters and put them in the rooms. Rent them out if you wish for extra euros but don't leave people freeze. But if you come when it's not so cold it's a very good place to stay. Location is unbeatable and the place itself has a spirit, and a very Florentine one, from very old antique tile floors in the public area to antique furniture in the rooms. Rooms are spacious with high ceilings. For the price that we've paid - E83 a night - the place was almost perfect.

Great location, a very short walk to Ufizzi. Owner was very warm and hospitable. The hotel used to be part of a 10th century monastery, which gives it beautiful character. Room was big but bathroom was a bit too small (although that wasn't a major problem). Breakfast is pastry and coffee/juice at the nearby cafe. Overall pleasant experience.

As a female who stayed alone, I felt very safe at the Cristina. The room was very clean and the sink in the room was much appreciated, since the common bathrooms were down the hall near the reception area (although this worked out fine). The location is perfect and close to everything, and although they don't have internet there are several internet points nearby.

Hotel Christina is fairly basic accomodation but spacious and clean. We loved being in an ancient building with frescos on the bedroom wall and hearing the musicians playing in the Piazza della Signoria in the evenings from our room! It did mean a climb up the stairs to the rooms and the streets outside were never silent but we did feel in the heart of Florence which is what we wanted. Not for those who want peace and quiet, modern facilities or those who can't do stairs. The owners were so friendly and welcoming and it was no problem that our Italian is limited. No breakfast being provided was not a problem as there are so many places to eat, even early. The fridge in the room was helpful. We took advice from other reviews and were ready to pay cash for our stay which was appreciated. The train station is about 15mins walk away but it was very easy to find the hotel. It looks just like the photos! We would love to return and have already recommended it to lots of friends.

Cristina is one of the least expensive hotels in Florence. Only 100m from the "Piazza della Signora" it could not be located more centrally. The rooms are clean, the beds of good quality and the sisters running the hotels do a good job. There is only one negative thing to mention: The windows wouldn't stop noise from coming in and so the rooms are quite loud.

I would recomend Cristina only for the excellent localization and I suppose you pay for it. You don´t need any transport as you are able to get everywhere by foot. Rather than a Hotel looks like a room renting private house , in a narrow street. There is no confort to stay in the room other than sleeping. The frontdoor is much smaller than the pictures display.

This hotel was nice and the staff did speak English. The only problem was that when we were ready to check out the lady wanted cash not a credit card. This was at the end of our trip and the American Express office was not open so I could not get my travelers checks cashed. She was not very pleasant when she found out I was paying with the credit card, even though the web site said they accepted cards. No lift, so people that would have trouble with stairs might want to stay somewhere else.

we complained about the noise from the street and from other guests in the late night. Our problem - we should not have selected a one star. The bed was unsatisfactory. With a bad back, one needs sufficient back support - not a cot with springs and a thin mattress. Also, the chair in the corner had a bad seat, so it was diffcult to sit on unless one put a pillow there.

Really nice room in a great location, super nice women who run it. The drawbacks are that there is no airconditiong, not even a cirlular fan. We had to leave the windows open or it was stiflingly hot, but then the noise was unbearable, actually it was loud even when we closed the windows, so not a decent wink of sleep our two nights there. In cooler weather and more off-season it might be OK.

Nice modest room and great for the price. I would return. On the downside, two flights of stairs with heavy luggage is a chore. Salvatore will try to take the luggage but don't let him! Only afterward, when he was huffing and puffing did he tell me that he has a pacemaker! The location for the hotel is terrific for the historical district. The hotel is farther from the train station then appears on the website and the directions definitely need to be clarified. Once you know where it is its OK but still some ways from the station.

Bathroom included a toilet, which, because of size of bathroom was actually in the shower. Shower curtain had to be pulled away from toilet and water splattered onto toilet. Because of location of hotel (near Uffizi Gallery and square) was noisy even with windows shut. Windows opened onto quaint narrow cobbled street which was nice. Hotel situated near lots of sites, but quite a distance from railway station if you walk. Expensive if you take a taxi.

When I booked this accomodation in Florence (through venere.com) I had heavily relied on the feedback provided by the previous travelers of their stay in Cristina. It turned out my stay at Cristina turned out be far beyond my expectations. I was traveling with my wife and two children (11 and 4 years) and everything was perfect, including an excellent location (next to Ufizi gallery) and very friendly owners (two sisters). The 15 minute walk from the Santa Maria Novella station was as described in their email directions, the street on which the hotel is located has excellent eating and shopping places and staying in the hotel was a truly trip down the Florence's rich cultural history. One minor downside is the bathroom. It is a little bit old fashioned but what the heck you are in Florence and getting ready in this quaint bathroom is an expierence in itself.

While the location of the hotel is perfect-- right in the center of the pedestrian zone-- if you are not a heavy sleeper and you end up in one of the rooms facing the street, you will be awakened every night by the sound of drunken students of a variety of nationalities. Still, this is a sweet place-- our bathroom had the remnants of a fresco on the ceiling-- and the two sisters that run it are welcoming. Just make sure to bring your earplugs.

The fact that the room was small was not a problem, as we were looking for clean and reasonably priced accommodations and the Christina fit the bill. The bed seemed old and the room was a bit run down. I thought the bathroom, although functional, could use a remodel. Perhaps the hotel is too close to the action. The noise outside of my room was loud (like an american frat party) until 3 or 4 AM. Probably shouldn't have visited Florence in July. At around 5 AM the street sweeper or sewage-sucker came by and a nasty odor came into my room. Good morning! Bottom line...very close to 'the action' but a pretty average place...

This is a wonderful place to stay, it is full of old world charm and I cannot recommend it highly enough. This hotel is rated as 1 star but is better than many 2-3 star hotels I have stayed in. We had a very large room with private bathroom. Our room was exceptionally large, clean and bright. The staff were very helpful and polite and understanding of our terrible Italian and spoke very good English. The location of this hotel is excellent, right in the centre of the old town, the Uffizi is within 3-5 minutes walk as were most of the major sights. There are also plenty of food options in close proximity and the train abnd bus stations are about 20 minutes walk (without a back pack!) away for any day trips. This hotel is in a great location and would be totally worth the money if they invested in the individual A/C units other hotels have. The heat was unbearable and we were traveling with two 12 year old girls who really had a hard time. The staff had a big fan/cooling unit they used so we asked to have that put in our room so the girls and my husband and I could sleep at night. That is my only complaint. We stayed for 4 nights in a very spacious triple. The beds were a bit creaky but the service was attentive and welcoming. The sisters were very helpful with information about Florence. Our room overlooked the street, which made for some noisy evenings & mornings (bring ear plugs), but I consider that a fair trade-off for an excellent, extremely central location just steps away from the Piazza della Signorina. FYI: no air conditioning, but a fan was provided--room was quite cool despite the heat while we were there, & reception is on first floor (no elevator) and you'll need to carry your luggage up a long flight of stairs. Overall, we were very satisfied with Cristina and would return if we're lucky enough to go back to Florence.

We had a quad room for four adults. The room was very spacious even by American standards and very clean. It is in a great central location, but it is a little hard to find. The map on the website is not quite exact. It was a challenge to get to by car. They said they had a garage but that only means that they know the location of a private one a couple of blocks away. When I got to the garage it was full and I had to drive around for a about 1/2 an hour to find a "blue" metered parking area by the river. At that point I was about a km away but it was still closer and cheaper than parking at the Train Station (the closest puplic garage). Driving in Florence in this area is very difficult. The streets are mostly one way, very narrow and street names are not well marked. But, once we got settled in everything else was fine. The bathroom was good size but like many small Italian hotels the shower had a curtain but no base. The water simply drains to the middle of the bathroom. It's not a real problem when you allow for it.

The location of this hotel is fantastic. Close (two blocks)to the main square, museums, shopping and the Duomo. Walking distance to the train station. It's a great budget hotel and I would definitely recommend it. The only down side was the street noise but that ended around midnight...and the staff did not speak any English but that was not a problem.

Overall, we found the room quite satisfactory. Clean and well located. However, we found the room rather noisy especially at night because of the restaurants outside. Ask for a courtyard facing room.

The location was amazing! The price was fantastic! Definitely the nicest 2-star I've stayed in. I think it's listed as a 1-star, but it should be a 2-star. It had the rustic qualities of a pensione, but nicer. The shower was terrific. No noise from above, but the walls are a tad thin (only shower noise). The street noise is there, but I didn't notice since I'm a heavy sleeper, while my wife was woken up a few times. Clean sheets and towels and everything. No TV, but why would you want one? Overall, for the money, a 4.5 out of 5!

Although there was much foot traffic at early hours of the morning outside our window, which overlooked the street, that is beyond the hotel's ability to control. Otherwise, we found the hotel to be charming, the staff friendly and helpful, and the price reasonable and affordable.

This is a great hotel - especially for the value. It's not fancy, but it is very clean and nicely decorated. When we got to the hotel, it wasn't full, so they offered us an en-suite room for the same price. They were very accomodating in all of our requests and had great restaurant recommendations. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff was kind and helpful. We reserved a "Triple" with a private bath and our room was huge. It was clean and we really had no complaints. The area that the hotel is in is wonderful for walking and seeing so much of what you want to see in Florence. We will deffinately stay here again. Thanks so much!!

I loved the location of this hotel in relation to major sights. The map makes it look closer to the train station than it is, but really, Florence is so small that it doesn't matter. Our rooms didn't have an attached bathroom, but the bathroom in the hall was only shared between a couple of rooms, and it was clean. I would definitely stay there again, because I was right in the middle of everything.

The location was very convenient. The host very friendly & helpful. The rooms are clean, simple & reasonably priced. The street is charming & the over all experience was very positive! There was an active restaurant down the street that added to the late night noise...kind of added to the European charm. A very good value...

Location was fantastic. Very good value for money - I would definitely recommend it. We had a room without bathroom, but the share showers were clean, and we never had to wait. You really feel like you are staying in Florence - the rooms have atmosphere and character, not a standard, sterile hostel/hotel. Window alcove with desk was great, rooms are spacious and clean. Great restaurants and bars in street and surrounds.

Location of the hotel was #1 quality. We changed upgraded our room upon arrival. The room we booked was so small, we could barely open the door and not fall on the bed. We were offered a larger nicer room incl bathroom for 28euros more per night with a window overlooking the street. The room was fairly clean, but the walls and bathroom needed to be painted and cleaned. The beds in both room were like roll away beds, thin mattresses that sagged and squeeked. It was hard to sleep in the beds, plus it was noisy at night from the street traffic. The owners and help were very accomidating. I probably would not stay there again-too noisy, no shower curtain-bathroom floor and toilet were soaked every time you took a shower, poor quality beds. Guess it depends on what you want, but after 10-12 hours of walking, shopping, and touring, I want to sleep at night so I am refreshed for the next day activities.

The hotel Cristina has excellent location in Florence. The hostess is one of the most wonderful ladies in the whole world. The only downside is that most rooms face the street and kids are permitted to scream and howl on the street all night long. We can't say enough about the hostess, the nice room, the location and the price.

I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a budget option in the center of town. We only had 2 days in Florence and wanted to be close to the museums, shops and the Duomo, etc. When we first rang the buzzer to be let in and saw the dank, dark entry with only a set of stairs, we both looked at eachother and kind of half laughed but I honestly half thought my wife was going to kill me. We had been staying in a villa in tuscany for a week and before that an apartment in Varnazza and the tiny but extremely clean hotel in Rome seemed like a distant memory. When we got to the top of the stairs we were greeted by one of the two, kindly sisters who run the pension. Both were very nice and offered great insight into Florence's culture. Our room was huge for Italy standards about (20ftx20ft) with private bath. It was exterely clean. I accidentally flooded the area outside of the bathroom door. I sopped up the tile floor with a white towel and I was amazed to see that the towel was just as white as it was when it was before the job. The furniture was atypical for us as in America you know how the bed spread matches the drapes and the furniture looks like it was bought of the set of 'The Price is Right.' The wooden shutters opened on to their front street. Across the street were 3 wine bars with some shops, markets and cafes within 25 meters. I'm sure that there are plenty of good, budget places to stay in Florence but we'd both reccomend this one.

My family's stay at Cristina's was a real success!! My mother being 87 years of age was kindly met by the owner- a real nice lady.Even though there were some stairs to climb to come to the reception, my mother didn't complain as the lady always met us with a smile. My sister and her family, we were all together 8 persons staying at Cristina's,are also very satisfied with their stay. The Hotel couldn't be situated in a better place. We had a nice coffee-bar just round the corner where we had our breakfast. Thank You again Hotel Cristina!!! Siv Hellman

This is a real gem of a hotel. It is basic in terms of facilities but for the price paid it was the best value hotel we stayed in in Italy. The staff are lovely, the room was clean and had real character about it and the location could not be better. If there was one thing they could add it would be breakfast facilities but apart from that we were delighted with it. If we go back to Florence we will definitely stay here again.

The only reason why I did not give a maximum rating under "General Review" has nothing to do with the hotel itself: the only time the street (via della Condotta) is calm is between 1am and 6am. I guess it is the price to pay for such a perfect location (for example, Palazio Vecchio is only 75m away, and its belfry celebrates midnight with a carillon...) Cristina will be my recommendation for young people who themselves will enjoy reveling on this joyful town until all hours. Please forward my appreciation and thanks to Ms Feresh Fery and her staff for their kindness and competence.

The staff were very welcoming and friendly. We didn't spend a whole lot of time there because we were there to visit the city and not the hotel, but I would definitely stay there the next time I go to Florence. It is an excellent location, right next to pretty much everything. If you are looking for a decent hotel, right in the center of Florence you couldn't ask for anything more.

Immediately upon checking into the Hotel Cristina, we felt comfortable and at home. Everyone was very nice, helpful and more than willing to answer our questions or call us a taxi. The rooms were sparkling and had an authentic Italian charm. They even came in and made the beds every day! We didn't have a bathroom in our room, but the public ones were never a cause for concern. They were clean and we never had to wait for a shower. Overall, our stay there was fantastic and we would certainly book there again on a return trip.
