The best part about this place is that its in the heart of Florence. You can actually see Duomo up close just as shown in the pics. Though it depends on the room you are staying in. The first one we got, which has smoke smell, had a good view but the second one didnt have any. They were very nice and changed our room due to the smoke smell. But there was no gracious welcoming and telling us about Florence or how to get to the attractions. If asked, they definitely assisted. The room was clean but the bath-tub didnt have any shower curtain which was a pain. The breakfast was average. There was cereal, bread, croissants etc but they were all old...not made on the same day. There were no fruits or eggs. You have internet service in the common area which is free for all. We had some difficulty in finding this place as there were no directions given other than its close to Duomo. We spent some time in searching for this place. Its in the heart of all the shopping area and Accademia and Uffizi are at a walkable distance. There are some very good restaurants nearby and you can spend your evening listening to budding artists near Palazzo Vecchio.

I was not able to book a single room on the website, as it was not an option. When I checked in, the older of the two men who worked at the reception, tried to find me a single room to save me money. He was very helpful and very nice, but could not find me a single. The room was not very attractive, but it was clean and comfortable enough. The breakfast was not very good. I guess Florence is just very expensive, and you don't always get what you pay for.

The location was EXCELLENT - close to the train station and even closer to the Duomo - the bells wake you in the morning if your window is open which was great to get our runs in early when the tourist were not on the streets! We will be back!

Good value for location. Free computer to check email was a nice surprise. Located steps from the Cathedral; reasonable walk to train station. Breakfast very modest,no fruit or hot items. Very convenient to walk to major attractions. Shopping & restaurants all nearby. Modern bathroom with shower. Elevator.

The room was large, but on the street and there was a lot of noise. The weather was cool, so we closed the windows and it was better. Couldn't ask for a better location. Staff was responsive. Hotel is a little difficult to find but was able to find it from the pictures, reviews, and descriptions on the website. I would stay there again.

we were given room 111 which smelt like an open sewer emanating from our toilet. there was some dodgy masking tape previous stuck on the floor over a drain presumably in an attempt to reduce the foul odour. when we approached the reception, the man said there was nothing he could do because his boss was home but that we should try again in the morning. the next day we approached the reception again and reported our concerns and another man (presumably the owner) told us that there was nothing they could do. and initially, after some firm negotiations, the man just turned around and walked away! surprisingly, he later called our room and told us that a new room was available. this room (room 126), which did not even have a number on the door(?) and had a cracked mirror in the toilet, was better in that at least it did not smell as bad. on check out, when we inquired about room 126, the man reluctantly old us that no one usually sleeps in room 126 but that it just gets locked up (spooky!). the only truly good thing about this hotel is the location. i would not be returning to this hotel anytime soon. not very romantic.

Reading other reviews made me a little worried as to how I would find this hotel. It was excellent. I loved the fact that I was lodging in the shadow of the Duomo, and the noise that other people complain of, was the peal of the bells, and the chatter of happy people. I look forward to a return visit to the Costantini.

only the location was good. we payed for parking for one night 24 euros and tha garage was 20 min. by walking. definitely not recommended
Sweden, Sep 2008
As written before. It´s all about location!! We had a wonderful view from our window overlooking parts of the Duomo. Knowing that you will realize that earplugs are necessary if you are a ligthsleeper. The windows don´t manage to shut the noise out. And noise it is practically all nigtht. But who cares, you´re not in the center of a city expecting quitness! There are rooms not facing the busy street Via Calzaioli, ask for those if it is a big deal for yor. Breakfast is adequate but nothing exciting. Staff is helpful in a quite manner. They don´t have a luggageroom but let us leave our bags in the receptionarea during the day of our late departure. What you get at Constantini is a small but very clean room with fantastic location. Not at all hard to find. Hotel Constantini and Aldini have the same entrance and you take a small elevator to reach the receptionarea. Don´t look for the reception at groundfloor level. If ever coming back to Florence I won´t bother surch for another hotel

The hotel is situated in a great place, just a few steps from the Duomo and within easy walk of the train station, even with luggage. There was so much to see and do within walking distance, and being right next to such a major landmark makes it a lot harder to get lost while walking around the city. Location, location, location is what makes this hotel great for the money. The room was adequately sized, had a small refrigerator, and was very clean. The bathroom was bigger than many in Italy and while it was shower only (no tub) it did not feel cramped in the slightest. Breakfast is very simple and there is not much selection, but it is plentiful and everything is tasty except the coffee, which is horrible. Really horrible. The only downside to the hotel is, as other reviewers have said, the noise. You can hear the revelers on the street, street musicians, etc. very clearly. Neither of us had any trouble sleeping, but if you are noise sensitive you may have to look elsewhere. That, and the coffee is horrid.

The biggest problem was finding the hotel because it was on the second floor and the building only had a sign that said Hotel, and not the name of the hotel. The breakfast was minimal, but the location was great. All of the rooms in the hotel are on one floor and only two rooms have views of the duomo, but we managed to get one of them. All other aspects of the hotel were fine.

This is the second time I have stayed at the "Hotel Costantini," which is all about location, location, location. From my room, I could see the tip of the cupola of Santa Maria del Fiore! This is not a luxury accomodation by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a nice place to get a good night's sleep after a long day of walking around Florence. The receptionist can be a little grumpy but all in all is very helpful and understanding. The Costantini certainly is charming in its very own way, but one must know that it is the location one is paying for (not that that's not worth it).

Sister Vacation
USA, Jul 2008
Constanini was wonderful. I traveled to Florence with my sister, both of us in our early thirties, for five days during the third week in July. We had a wonderful stay and were VERY pleased with everything about the hotel. (We have been known to prefer hostels to hotels...) Constantini is clean, quiet and meets the basic needs of travelers who are more concerned with what they are visiting then where they are sleeping. Constantini is for the no frills, low maintenance traveler. The gentlemen at the front desk were very nice and helpful when we needed them to be. Breakfast was decent with coffee, juice, cereal, yogurt, and bread items. The bathrooom was basic, the towels were fluffy, the beds were firm, and the ac was on when it was needed. I cannot say how pleased we were with the location. Looking out our window to the left was the Duomo...we were able to walk to everything in Florence and the area felt very safe. If you plan on sleeping with the windows open,if it is cooler than 75, bring your ear plugs because people are outside the Duomo all hours of the night.

The hotel was pretty good, by Florence standards. Things not exactly as advertised: the AC definitely did not cool the room. The light near the bed didn't work. And despite the fact that it was labeled "no smoking" the room definitely smelled of cigarettes. But sheets and towels were crisp and bed comfy. and I felt very safe there.

I was amazed by how close the hotel is to all the interesting things in Florence, both at day and at night. The staff was very friendly, and the breakfast was more generous than the 2 stars hotel in Rome in which I was a weak before. The street was not always quiet, but when I closed the window it was fine. I'll surely go to this hotel next time I'm in Florence.

Incredible location. Very friendly staff. Clean rooms and great daily room cleaning service. I would definitley stay at this hotel again. Insider tips: MICHAEL ANGELO PLAZA You MUST see this city while looking down from a high vantage point. Visit the Michael Angelo plaza and sit on the steps and enjoy one of the most breath-taking views you will ever see while looking down over this entire city. Grab a quick sandwhich from the street vendor at the plaza and have an pic-nic on the steps. CITY TOUR BUS The Hop-On/Hop-Off tour bus is the best way to get to know the city in a short 1-2 hour window. If you are not sure how many of the world class sight-seeing destinations that you want to see or if you are trying to decide how many locations you should cross off your list then take this bus tour on your first day of arrival. In a very short timespan you will get to know the city and it will help you to decide which locations you absolutley can't miss. This buss will take you to a sight you may not have been aware of in visiting a town name Fiosole that sites above Florence. It is an incredible visit even if only by roaming tour bus. It is a pleasant surprise that nobody told us about. It's a must-see as far as I am concerned. Also, this Hop-on/Hop-off tour bus ticket is good for 24-hours and you can use this as your main mode of transportation if you wish.

The location of this hotel couldn't be better. It's located right by the Duomo and sits on a cute street for shopping. I requested a double room for me and my husband but was given a room with three single beds-not exactly romantic! The hotel room had the feeling of a convent: no pictures on the wall, no fancy furnishings, no rugs. So if it's location you want, go for it. If you want a comfortable place to hang out, I'd suggest trying somewhere else.

We arrived on foot from the train station, which was considerably father than the 300 meters written on the hotel confirmation. The hotels sits on a pedestrian street steps away from the Duomo in what the web site calls a "beautiful Renaissance building". It may be old, but hardly beautiful. The shabby small entrance led to an equally shabby elevator to the hotel on the second floor. But things got better. Check in was in a tiny reception area by Ivo, a helpful gentleman, who continued to be helpful throughout our stay. As he walked us to our room through a non air conditioned hall, we passed through the lobby, a tiny space furnished with a computer, a wooden park bench, some un-upholstered chairs and a tattered upholstered chair; not a great first impression nor a place to hang out. Ivo opened the door to our room (109, possibly the largest) and we were very, very impressed! The room was huge, very clean. Furniture was basic (not the "antique furniture" listed on the site): 3 beds, wardrobe, desk and two desk chairs and two night tables. More drawer storage, upholstered chairs, and some color on the walls could have turned the room from basic into spectacular. The large windows had soundproof layers, which we usually kept closed because of the heat. Our room, which faced away from the main street, was quiet. Air conditioning was good. Bathroom was a good size. Towels were good size and quality. It took time for hot water to turn hot and the shower surround leaked a bit. Once hot, the shower was strong and hot water plentiful. Bed pillows were dreadful but a non-issue because we slept well after long days out. We had only coffee in the breakfast room. Because of its proximity to all major sites and shopping, the helpfulness of the staff, and the size of our particular room we were happy calling this hotel our home for our six days in Florence. We recommend it for budget travelers.

Unexpectedly good positioned hotel. Might be a problem with car travelers, but once settled in, your car left in near by garage - you find everything amazingly near and easy to reach. The only "problem" was poor wireless Internet signal in the rooms. The real disappointment might be a room without a view - looking into inner part of the building, so check what kind of room is reserved. Excellent choice of fast dining restaurants and gellateria's, specially "Gellato Festival" with the best tiramisu in the world

Our room in the front, on the street, for a party of 2 adults and two kids, was very loud long into the night -- but then it is truly a half block to the Duomo. Hotel was pretty, um, basic. They gave twin beds to my wife and I, and a slouchy cot as the 4th bed in the room.

The location of the Costantini is fantastic, right near the Duomo. The day staff is helpful. The room had an acrid odor stemming from the heating ventilation, I think, and it gave me a headache. The pillows need to be updated and we did get a better pillow after requesting one. The location is excellent and the free internet access is great.

We visited in October 07 and stayed for four nights as we wanted time to soak up Florence without rushing. We chose Costantini based on the right price and availability of a double room and a twin for our two children (14 & 11). It also looked well placed and had good reviews. We were well pleased with it. As other comments point out the location is outstanding. Couldn't be more convenient for the Duomo and we loved coming down the stairs around the lift (it's on the second floor) walking out of the door and being in the centre of everything. Friendly staff and a good breakfast went down well. We arrived by train from the UK early in the morning and were able to leave our bags in the lobby while we explored. It's interesting how they've fitted the modern rooms and en suite bathrooms into the larger old rooms by running the corridor down the side of the rooms. Sound weird but it's fine and they've kept the large painted ceilings of the whole room.

Our stay at this hotel was very disappointing as we were ignored when we first arrived as the man on the reception was too busy with his computer to even acknowledge our presence for a good 5 minutes after we arrived. He neglected to tell us that we had to leave the key behind when we went out the next day and we returned to find the room not cleaned and no clean towels, just the dirty ones where we left them. Would not recommend this hotel as it was very basic with the most uncomfortable beds I have even slept in, our room was on the small side as we had lost a large portion of our room to the hotel linen closet. The only good point was the location as it was a stones throw from the Duomo.

I was very happy with the service at Hotel Costantini. The gentleman at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. My Italian is not very good but we conversed and he was very patient. There were quite a few snack bars nearby and I found one restaurant nearby that I had dinner at that was quite good. This hotel is a great find! It is just a few doors off of the Duomo and on the pedestrian street where everyone walks in the evenings. The hotel is on floor 2 (which is really floor 3 in the U.S.) but there is an elevator which only broke down once while we were there for the week. Room 112 was very spacious and extremely clean, a bit sparten (no pictures on the walls) but who cares about that. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom even had a bidet, and there was a small refrigerator too. We were on the inside (not street side) so we didn't here much street noise even though we had our windows wide open all of the time. The only downside was the Duomo church bells started ringing at 6:15 every morning. I actually started enjoying them and they would lull me back to sleep. It was very nice to also have a computer available 24/7 with internet access. The staff was very friendly and helped us with directions, taxi, wake-up calls, etc. Breakfast was okay, simply bread, jams, yogurt, one cereal, coffee, tea, and orange juice. I would stay here again and I would highly recommend this hotel.

The location of this hotel couldn't be better. Our room overlooked the Duomo and Campanile. The double glazing helped but couldn't block out the inevitable hub-bub and sirens that seems to be amplified by the tall buildings but I've encountered much worse. I thought the hotel was excellent value for money. Breakfast was fine. It's on the second floor and lift wasn't working when we arrived and broke a couple of times. Fortunately we didn't have much luggage. Only met 2 members of staff. Afternoon/evening man always smiling. Morning man polite, quiet but got very chatty when we were checking out. Perfectly walkable from station if able bodied. We'd definitely stay here again.

An outstanding place to stay! Central, just down from the Duomo, minutes from Piazza della Signoria, San Lorenzo, and about 15 minutes walk from the train station. Despite this, it was quiet at night. You do get awoken at 7 am, but it is by the bells from the Duomo's bell tower. Our room had a painted ceiling, just like being in a museum! Breakfast wasaverage by Italian hotel standards. There was internet available and apparently no charge. All this for 120 euros/night...excellent value for the location.

We were a bit put-off by the outside appearance (looked like a run-down apartment) and small lift to 2nd floor, but it improved as we reached our room. The hotel is in a terrific position (20 paces from the Duomo). Double-glazing and air-conditioning made it sound-proof. Breakfast was very simple ("continental+") but adequate and promptly served by the Manager (?)whose English was limited. The friendly night staff (we met 2) had no English at all - but we managed. Would suggest a shower curtain in bathroom to stop water spreading: though it didn't seem to spread. Would also have liked some hooks or place to hang (pyjamas?) when showering. Greatly appreciated the free use of internet.

This hotel is a great value. The property is on the second floor of an old building. You get to it via an old lift. But, don't let the somewhat unwelcoming entrance fool you - you can't beat this hotel for the price/quality. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. This is a great spot to stay in Florence. It's not salubrious, and it's not for you if you want to spend your time in the hotel taking advantages of hotel services, but we were so happy with the place for what we were after. It was clean, offered breakfast, we checked in after midnight with no problem (just push the door open off the street) and most importantly, it was RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF EVERYTHING. We could see the Duomo's campanile from our room. Only downside would be that depending on the night, you can get some street noise. Of the two nights we stayed, there was noise on one. But no real problem. If you're visiting Florence for the sake of the city, and not the hotel (but you don't want to gamble on getting a dive) then this is a great one for you. We'll definitely stay there again on our next visit.

Location was very good in relation to sights. We could walk to most of the sights from the hotel. The description of being only 300 metres from Santa Maria Novella railway station was not accurate - it was much further - and not an easy walk with luggage. The rooms were small but very clean and the breakfasts were adequate. Unfortunately, the lift was out of operation for two of our three days and we had to walk up three flights of stairs. We would probably check out alternative accommodation on another occasion.

The hotel was just as described in previous reviews. It is pretty basic, but very clean and welcoming, and excellently located just across from the Duomo, handy for all the major sights, as well as the bus and train stations. The breakfast buffet was adequate with a choice of fresh coffee and teas available. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would happily stay there again

The location was superb, and considering you could see the Duomo from the front door, was surprisingly quiet. Bells don't start till 7 am. The front desk were helpful, and there was free internet. Breakfast adequate but uninspiring. Keep your windows shut to keep out mosquitos (Florentine general problem!).

Our trip to Florence was to tour Italy and visit our daughter, an exchange student in Florence. We picked the hotel because of the price, location, and previous ratings by users. The hotel is as convenient as one can get in Florence. Our room had a view of the Duomo (over the adjacent buildings) and was excellent in size, and cleanliness. Upon arrival the air conditioning was not working, the outside noise was irritating, and the room was "stuffy" with the windows closed. We were advised that the air conditioning was not scheduled to be turned on until June 1st. I said since we were paying for "high" season rates the hotel should supply air conditioning when the rate change from low to high occurred. The owner agreed and air conditioning was supplied within three hours of my request. The room was VERY quiet with the windows closed and the sound of the bells that start at 7:00 am was delightful and a good reason to wake up to start touring. Breakfast was ample and spending time meeting and talking to other guests was a delight. Service (overall) was excellent with the exception the nighttime clerks could not speak English so any questions had to be held until the daytime but this was not a problem. The entrance and elevator was typical for a 2 star hotel and not pretty but also, not a problem. I would definitely stay again and recommend this hotel highly.

It was the first time that we stayed in this hotel, and in general was very well. We stayed 4 nights and the employees were very kind, friendly, and in general the atention which we received was excellent. Maybe, the breakfast wasn't very extense

Excellant location. Would only consider this a place to sleep. Not for the discerning traveler. The gentleman working the front desk had a extremly odd/uncomfortable personality.

Terrific location and unbeatable price in central Florence. However, the spacy rooms are really noisy (bring your earplugs), and the hotel owner is too pushing. If you can look past this, it's a great place to stay for budget travelers.

Location excellent. But there it stops. First impressions at entrence off the street is "WHAT HAVE WE LET OURSELVES INTO". It was dirty and uninviting. Inside it was better, but of the 7 reservations with Venere this was the most dissapointing stay and for our budget the most expensive.

Well there is no doubt, it is a very well situated hotel, 30meters from the Duomo, in a walking street, though you can enter with your car to take out your luggages (it was an experience to make our way between all the tourists in the street...), so difficult to find better. The hotel is in flat on the 2nd floor. Rooms are very small, simply furnished, but clean. The price is quite high for a 2star hotel, due to the location and you can add an extra fee of 24euro/day for the car valet parking. Gloups... The hotel is

The hotel location is outstanding. As might be expected considering the price for hotels in Florence, a very good value. The rooms are basic but quiet and clean. Breakfast is simple but adequate. The campanile chimes only at 7:00am and later so it is not a problem. Definitely stay there again

The location of the hotel was perfect for sightseeing. Right on the doorstep of the Duomo, 5 mins to Uffizi, 7 mins to Santa Croce, even the Piazzale Michelangelo was doable and WELL worth the view. hotel was clean, friendly, and really helpful. The bells of the Duomo were an excellent alarm clock because who wants to sleep late in a city of so much beauty to see.

March 7th & 8th 2007: The Costantini is close to the Duomo, but with all the road works & detours around, it took us almost 2 hours to reach this hotel by car, once within the city limits. A better way to reach the hotel is to reach the "Giglio" parking lot, and ask one of the parking attendant to drive you to the hotel. The rooms are very clean and quiet. There is no locked room to leave your luggage at check-in/check-out. We were offered to leave our luggage near the manager's desk, but it is unattended quite often. Overall it is a good place to stay (centrally located).

The hotel surrounding are the only reason that I would suggest the hotel to others. Me and my boyfriend are college students, and I think because of our age, they treated us very badly. There was only one hotel employee that was even remotely nice to us. The other hotel staff was rude and didn't try to do much to make us feel welcome. The rooms were large and the beds were fine, but the problem came when we tried to check out. They denied my credit card, but when I looked on my online banking site they had actually charged me for the room twice. Which this may not have been their fault, but the guy was not helpful, as that was my only method of payment, and there was absolutley no reason why there should have been a problem with my card. But besides that, the hotel surrounding and the area where unbeatable.

What a wonderful way to spend a few days in Florence! In an impecably clean hotel, clean sheets, comfortable bed, soft large bath towels, gracious host, new window and shutters to block the window's light. However,Room 101 is a gorgeous room with a view of the Duomo and the street below and of course, the noise level which always accompanies a street view. We rolled with the small disturbances, laughed about it and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Our thanks to the hotel and to venere.com.

we had a wonderful time in Florence and the accomodation provided at the Constantini was excellent. The rooms were spotlessly clean, the courtesy and friendliness of the staff to be commended. And that,s before you take the location into account, right next to the magnificent Duomo! Sure we heard the bells at 7am but that was all part of the experience of a fabulous weekend, and on my next trip to Florence, I will most definatley be returning to the Constantini. excellent value for money

The hotel was everything we expected from our research and we enjoyed our stay very much. The only problem was not the hotel's fault. Staying here at New Year was a mistake, because its proximity to the centre meant that it was unbelievably noisy on NY's Eve and Jan. 1. It was quite deafening because of the fireworks and crowds and sleep was almost impossible. Otherwise, all was fine. Rooms were spacious and comfortable, even if the bathroom was snug. Breakfast was simple and a bit bland, but quite adequate.

Great location - one block from the Duomo. Only problem was the noisey street sweepers - no fault of the hotels. They run EVERY night for several hours. Nice breakfast. This is an old hotel in an old building.

Pictures do not do it justice. Fantastic location, incredible service, spotless and large rooms, we could not have had a better experience. One night we found that we were out of shampoo and asked for more. They gave us 3 packs of it!Plenty of breakfast was offered: yogurt, 2 types of juice, cereal, croissants jams, butter, chocolate spread coffee and tea. A computer is available (for a small fee of 2 euro per 1/2 hour. Hairdryer in the rooms. The hotel is located kiddy corner to the main church square. Late sleepers beware of the bells at 7:45 AM but why sleep in while in Florence?? The staff could not do enough for us truly even called Restaurants for hours of operation and helped us go to Fiesole. Kept our luggage after check out at no charge. We recommended it to my sister who lives in Milan and she could not believe the rate we paid for such a great location and service. Thank you Constantini we will be back!!!!

We visited in early November. The room was great. It faced the street, loved the view and by bedtime was very quiet. Only 20 yards from the Duomo! Hard to find if your driving but the valet parking is a definite plus and priced great. Centrally located in the city; ease of walking to everything was great. Front desk personnel very helpful. Breakfast needed some meats and cheeses but was good to get you thru to lunch. Would definitely go back in a heartbeat!

We would definitely stay here again. Although the rooms were near the Duomo (bells ringing) and busy street, the room was quiet, spacious, clean. Pillows on beds were very hard. Breakfast room and breakfast was very good, staff (1 man) was friendly, competent and accommodating.

The staff was extremely helpful, the room clean and modernized. The Hotel is charming. The location was excellent. However, finding the hotel was very difficult. Florence has a series of one-way streets around the Doumo, making it almost impossible to actually drive to the hotel. The sign on the Hotel is simply a plaque on the side of the building. The hotel occupies one floor of the building (2nd floor). There is a small lift. Parking is an extra $24 Euro/day and off site. An attendant will pick up the car and drive it away. Once we found the hotel we were pleased. It is within walking distance of everything. Breakfast is mostly packaged products, but adequate. We would stay there again, but probably not try to drive.

Steps away from the duomo, in fact, you could see it from our window. Right in the heart of town, with restaurants and shops beneath us. However, the duomo rings its bells every hour on the hour, so if you go to bed early, or sleep late, this is not the place for you. We go to bed fairly late, and get up very early, so it was not an issue for us. It was a great "alarm clock" at 7AM in the morning. Otherwise, you can't get any closer to the center of town than this place.
