I really enjoyed my stay at the Colomba. It was close enough to my favourite sights in Florence but yet off the beaten path so it was quiet. The especially liked family like atmosphere including the staff's friendliness (most of whom were part of the family running the place and they spoke very good English), the breakfast area which encouraged the meeting with other guests, the computer available for internet. Overall a great experience

Within our first visit of Italy, we spent four days in this Florence hotel where we enjoyed very much the warm welcoming of the owners, the spacioussness and cleanliness of the room, the fantastic service provided, excellent coffee and variety of fresh food for breakfast. Thank you Rosanna, your husband and your son for everything. You're the best !

The service was amazing. The entire staff was helpful and they went out of their way to help. The room was huge, the breakfast was adequate and plentiful. The elevator was a pain, only fits 2 people and the stairs were a pain, but I was expecting this. Location was amazing: 2 blocks to the Dumo and San Lorenzo Market, about a 10 minuite walk to the train station.

Incredible hotel, close to everything. wonderfull family run hotel and accomodated all my needs. i felt totally safe and comfortable. for an american, the exterior was scary with only a sign on the wall showing it was on the 2nd floor. there was another hotel on the 3rd. ignore that, as i would go back again in a second.

Rooms are variable.... checked into a room where the noise from a restaurant below disturbed our sleep. We changed to a new one and were satisfied. One becomes more critical as the cost increases and for the high price we were charged in a fair period the quality of the room and wifi services should have been better. Nevertheless a well run little hotel.

Location was convenient, less than five minutes to the Duomo and reasonably close to the train station. Nothing special about the hotel or service, although it was certainly acceptable. Breakfast was better than most - decent quality and choice, and real cappuccino. We had a nice room which was easy to access.

We arrived earlier than official check-in time but were warmly greeted by staff and invited to have breakfast even after the hour for breakfast had passed. I had been sick from traveling and was offered tea for my stomach. Staff was very friendly, with a warm homey feeling. Our room was made ready early for us. Would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Florence, and we would surely stay there again if we visit Florence in the future.

Rosanna was fantastic, very helpful and friendly. Rooms were understated and entrance of building was dreary but very clean, would definitely stay there again. Breakfast was good as far as the European breakfasts go. Cappuccino was excellent. The lift was extremely helpful since I was traveling with my Mother.

There is not enough room to tell you how great this hotel and it's owner Rosanna are. The location was fantastic and so close to everything. Right in the heart of things and Rosanna is a complete dream of a hostess. She makes you feel at home and she seems to really care about her guests. She was a true joy to all of us. The hotel is on the 3rd floor of a building but that didn't bother us at all. I would definitely recommend you stay there anytime you are in Florence.

I felt like a part of the family from the minute I arrived. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms are larger than any other I stayed in Italy, and much quieter. I look forward to returning in the future.

Rosanna and Sabina were excellent and provided top notch service. They made us feel like we were in our own home. There were 6 of us travellng together and Rosanna/Sabina actually had a table for 6 set-up "outside" of the normal dining quarters that they allowed us to use each morning. The breakfasts were great and especially the homemade capuccino's that were always ready within one minute of our arrival. We had a very large bedroom and an adequate sized bathroom; both being very clean. The location was excellent to all of the main attractions and only a 10 minute walk to the main train and bus stations. There were many great restaurants; all within a short walking distance to the Hotel. You must try Za-Za's. Yes, I would definitely stay at the Columba upon our return to Florence. My only complaint was we had a very strong smoke odour in our room which was coming from around the corner (in the kitchen) from one of the staff. The only way to get rid of this continuous smell was to open the windows, however, this allowed in many mosquitos and the noise from the ductwork.

Great hotel. It's walkable to all the major tourist sites. Be sure to ask Rosanna for restaurant recommendations. The ones she provided were great. It's also just 1-2 blocks from the Accademia as well as the gelato bad - Carabe (better than Grom in my opinion)

Room was big and comfortable. Bathroom was small in comparison. Breakfast was wonderful, eating room was set very nicely, and service was excellent. This was a great experience and a hotel that met our every need. Roseanne and her husband were welcoming hosts; Sabina, the "day" host was wonderful. The location was incredible -- Medici Palace at the end of the block; Academia just two blocks away; central market arround the corner. The majority of Florence was within walking distance. And we always had a nice, clean, large room to come home to at night. This is a perfect hotel in which to stay; there is no entertainment, room service or robes -- but Florence is at your doorstep; and that's what we were there to see. Will recommend it to all of our friends; and will return on our next visit! Thank you, Hotel Colomba!

The hotel is just few blocks down the train station and 5 mins walk from the chruch. I chose Hotel Colomba because of the well-known hospitality of the owner Rosanna. She was kind enough to recommend some nice restaurants around the neighbourhood but when I asked for more adapters, (hotel has got only 2 I borrowed 1 and the other one was lent out) she said she didnt own an electrical appliance store. Apart from that, everything seemed fine. Breakfast wasnt surprising but adequate.

The service and quality of rooms at the Colomba was excellent. It was a little difficult to find the entrance at first but well worth finding. Rosana and her family and staff could not do enough for us. We only had to ask for something and it appeared. It was in an ideal position for visiting the sites and many are close enough to visit on foot. You do not need Tourist Information, just ask Rosana. We shall stay there again when we return to Firenze. A word of warning;do not have too much lunch if you have Tuscan food at dinner time!

Rosanna, the owner is an absolute delight. We got there on a sunday and there was some problem with our room. So she arranged for us to stay at a neighbor hotel for the night. She walked us there helping with the suitcases and transferred our suitcases the next day. The breakfast was delicious, her coffee to die for (very strong though) and she was very welcoming. She even arranged a booking to see the Academia. Overall, we absolutely loved the experience. The location is very central, maybe a 7 mins walk to the Duomo.

If we didn't feel that we were sleeping in the middle of a freeway, it would have been a wonderful hotel! The staff were very helpful, location was great, room was large, but couldn't sleep due to the noise level from traffic outside. There was also a lot of noise from other guests due to tile flooring in the common areas (suitcases with wheels rolling across tiles really echo).

We stayed here for 3 nights, and were extremely impressed by the service, location and quality of the room. It was a terrific value at a time when the dollar was hitting record lows against the euro. Breakfast was quite delicious and the espresso was outstanding. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. As others have commented, they will make museum reservations for you, which is really a necessity to avoid long lines. Our room was right near the front desk, but it was very quiet. The AC worked very well, and the bathroom was bright and clean. Our room had two beds and was quite large. The location, within about a block and a half from the duomo, was superb. We would absolutely stay here again.

The Hotel Operator - Rosanna - was by far the most pleasant and helpful for all of our stays in Venice , Rome and Florence. The accomodation was good and clean , and the breakfasts were again the best we had in Italy. The other staff at Colomba were also very friendly and helpful. Hotel was well situated for all the places we planned to vist. If I planned to visit Florence again, I would happily choose to stay at Hotel Colomba . One very big bonus for us was that Rosanna had lived in Australia , so was helpful in our needs for finding our way around . She made our stay a real pleasure.

We were given a very warm welcome & somewhere to get changed as we'd arrived early in the day. When we did get into our rooms we were pleasantly suprised at how spacious the bedrooms were & though the en suites were on the small side they were lovely & clean & fine for us. Breakfast was great - selection of cereal, warm pastries, rolls, cold meats, cheese & boiled eggs with coffees made to individual order - didn't need lunch! We only had 2 nights & wished we'd stayed longer. Location was handy for all the main sights & within easy walking distance of the central market (San Lorenzo) area where we ate. What a great city!

Our group of 5 couples were all very happy with the cleanliness of the hotel and the helpfulness of the staff, particularly Roseanna who speaks excellent English. She kindly provided extra chairs and glasses for our pre-dinner drinks meeting on the terrace leading from the room of our silver wedding couple. The breakfast was excellent, with plenty of choice: cereals, fresh fruit, ham, cheeses, yoghurts, pastries, bread, jam, fruit juices and freshly served individual coffee and tea. Don't be put off by the entrance, which is a bit dark and up several flights of stairs, but well worth the exercise! The lift is small and the door would be too narrow for wheelchair access. The hotel is well situated, on a busy road about 5 minutes stroll from the cathedral and the central city attractions. The road noise is not too bad in view of the new double glazed windows and shutters which block the sound and the bedrooms are air conditioned which means the windows can be closed for a good night's sleep. All in all a very pleasant stay. Thanks to previous guests for accurate reviews, allowing us to book with some confidence. ACME FRIENDS

This is the first time we have stayed here and hopefully we will come back again. Our plans changed and we had to change our booking from a triple room to 2 double rooms at the last minute and when I rang this was not a problem, in fact nothing was a problem. We were close to everything in Florence - in fact everything is just a walk away in Florence and then to come back to the hotel where the people were so helpful was a delight.

This is a great clean little hotel a few minutes walk from the Duomo. Access to all the sites is great and the staff is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. It is by no means luxury, but it is clean and in a prime location with good solid rooms. Parking nearby is terrible, but they have an arrangement with a garage a few blocks away (which is rather expensive). I have no problem recommending staying here!

Almost perfect quality/price. One owner speaks perfect (australian) English; her husband with an italian accent. Bed is very comfortable. Breakfast has OJ and PROTEIN, not just the 'cornetto'. Owners are very helpful. Only negative: hotel ONLY exists on the 3rd floor of a building, small elevator; a problem for handicapped people, or those with a ton of luggage. We would return in a snap.

My husband had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Colomba during our very first visit to Florence. The hotel was very centrally located and very close to Duomo and The Accademia Gallery. We went on this wonderful Artviva One Day Tour of Florence and it was excellent! My husband and I fell in love with Florence. The owner of the hotel, Rosanna, was very helpful even willing to book in advance for us tickets for the Uffizi and the Accademia. Breakfast at the hotel, was by far the best. They have a wonderful spread to choose from. I really felt like we were living with a family for a short while, they were very attentive and warm. We will have lovely memories of Florence for years to come, and can't wait to go back!

Hotel Columba is run by a very nice couple. The staff was all very friendly and helpful. The location can not be beat (5 minute walk from Duomo, museums and restaurants ). In the morning we would go see some sites, have some lunch and in 5 minutes be back at the hotel for a rest. The only draw back is that there is only one very small and slow elevator so if you can't climb stairs you might be inconvenienced. If you drive into Florence the hotel can arrange for a parking garage to come to the hotel and pickup/deliver your car for 23 Euro per day. In Florence this is a wonderful option because streets are one way, narrow and parking spaces tight.

The owner/manager was SO helpful. She always had a smile and was willing to help with just about anything to make your stay more comfortable. We were only there from about 8:30 PM to noon the next day but we felt like we were family. It was a nice refreshing change coming from France.

Extremely nice staff working there. The Junior suite was large and very clean. We were very close to the central market and most sites -- we walked everywhere with no problems. We had 2 kids and they both commented that they really like the place.

Fantastic location; friendly host; great breakfast (included with room), and spacious room (small bathroom) especially when compared with the closet we stayed in in Rome. this is a definite "come-backer".

We were very satisfied with our stay and would stay there again. This hotel is probably most appropriate for a traveler who is not intending to spend a lot of time at the hotel itself.

We had an excellent stay. The rooms are modern, clean and spacious. The staff are friendly and warm. Breakfast exceeded my expectations. The location is very near the city highlights. Would definitely stay here on our next visit to Florence.

Highly recommended. I don't usually give "10s" when rating anything. But, my stay at this hotel was most enjoyable. It was perfect for a small group of friends travelling. The staff is friendly, most helpful when recommending eateries, and available. I will stay here again on my next trip to Florence.

Staff is great. THey try to help in any way possible. EXCELLENT VALUE. Centrally located. The hotel is not easy to find because it is tucked away on the 3rd floor of a generic building that is NOT (to U.S. eyes) obviously a hotel building.

Aside from having a hard time finding the hotel (outside COLOMBA sign is very small) we found the hotel to be very good. Rooms were very clean and spacious, breakfast was very good, Rosanna the owner extremely helpful, free internet very convenient (although closing it at 10;30 WAS TOO EARLY)Conveniently located to get everywhere. Parking was a downside. Because of our car we had to pay 30 euros per night to get a nearby parking. But over all a very good hotel, would definitely stay again.

This was a flying visit so Rosanna who runs this hotel was an absolute godsend. She is bilingual in English and Italian and the map she gives you is invaluable. The location of the hotel is brilliant - just far enough back to be quiet enough but five minutes stroll from the main attractions. Having said that a Medici Palace on the corner of the street does add a certain something! We found the room to be pleasantly adequate, clean and the beds were comfortable. What do you want on a quick trip? Breakfast was more than adequate and Rosanna could recommend good eating places for evening meals around and about. I would go back here and intend to do so in the near future.

Hotel offers a great location, reasonable rates and basic accommodations (impeccably clean) that included a nice breakfast. Staff were very helpful! A bit on the noisy side, but only because the cleaning staff were up early!

Location is good. Breakfast is good. Free internet is good. A bit pricey for very plain accomodations, but very clean. Owner, Rosanna, is not Italian (NZ?) and so speaks English, though we just didn't find her too overall friendly, though not in our business.

The hotel's location was perfect. Close to the Duomo, Academia, and Central Market. Also, the hotel staff (runs by a family) were very nice and helpful. We loved their cappccino at the breakfast. Just for your info, we had troubles withdrawing cash from ATM in Florence since our ATM card did not have "Cirrus". Then, we ended up getting cash at Exchange place (there are a lot in town), we had to pay too much of fee there.

When you first arrive at Colomba it is a bit off putting because it is in a bit of a dingy arcade and you have to get your bags up in the tinniest lift in the world but once you get to the hotel itself it is really lovely. The lady who runs it, Rosana or something like that, is just delightful. She got us into the room early as we had been on an overnight train and were dying for showers. She got maps out and marked all the places of interest on them for us without us even asking. The breakfast was included in the room rate and was a treat after having Croissants and rolls for about a week. We had boiled eggs, cereals, proscuittio, fruit, yoghurt with the usual Croissants and rolls. The coffee was delicious and a choice of juices. Would most definitely recommend it to anyone and in fact I have to my mother who is going over next year.

The lady at the front desk was wonderful. She was friendly, welcoming, and helpful. She was the only thing we liked about our stay at the Hotel Colomba. The rooms were not carpeted and the furniture was old and ugly. The rooms reminded me of my horrible, depressing freshman college dorm room. The bathroom was extremely small and our toilet seat was broken. Although the location was great, the hotel was hidious! The tiny rickety elevator was like something out of a horror flick. I was definitely disappointed! The website makes it look pretty nice but it truly was the most disgusting place I've ever stayed. Although we were supposed to stay three nights, we stayed only one night and cancelled the other two. This place should be at bargain-basement prices since it to me, is barely one step up from a hostile. DO NOT STAY HERE! The Fenice Hotel right up the street was much, much nicer for less money.

Rosanna and Michaela were really helpful in all aspects of being hosts to strangers. The breakfast selection was perfect , personal coffee, latte, capuchino service was incomparable. Free access to the internet also made our stay the best in all of our 3 weeks of travel throughout Italy.

We asked for a double room and were placed in what could be used as a triple. The room size was good - we did not feel cramped. The rooms were very clean and kept up daily. Despite the fact that this was on a busy street, the rooms were very quiet. Rosanna and her family were very friendly and helpful. Rosanna speaks excellent english which was very helpful to us. The hotel was very close to everything in the old part of Florence and we were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. I would recommend this hotel highly and would stay there again without any qualms. It is in a > 300 year old building and does have a small lift to help with the bags and with tired people. (The hotel is on the second floor.) There was a computer with internet links to allow people to check e-mail, etc.

Warm and eager to help managers/owners. Great central location. Everything in the room worked! For quiet - ask for rooms facing inside. Only points to correct - uninviting building entrance (hotel on 2nd fl) and half broken toilet seat (yet clean!). Recommended!

This was our second time staying at the Columba and well worth it. The hotel is in the perfect place to see Florence. You walk right outside the doorway and everything is right there. Coffee shops, clothes stores, restaurants, bus stops, hop on hop off bus stops and the best.....right around the corner from the streets that turn into a flea market every day. The Duomo is 50 steps away,,what else could you want? The people that run the hotel are the best. Rosana ( who speaks perfect english) and her husband make you feel like part of the family. We travelled with a group of 8 people and no one had any complaints. The best !!!!!

Very good location in Lido(50 mts from vaporetto stop). Very good breakfast. I´ll recommend this hotel if you do not need to sleep in Venice. Only one thing negative, the bus stop just in front of the rooms, a litle bit noisy in the morning.
