Hotel Cellai - Florence

The rooms were much smaller than I expected from the photos on the website and the breakfast experience was not pleasant- The quality of food was mediocre. However, the public areas including the restaurant, were very charming, except the outdoor veranda was a bit shabby.

I was traveling alone, but if I had been with someone else that room would have been way too small. It was small but clean so I can't complain. I think it should not have been $90 euros since it was so small. I think a better value would have been at $70 euros. It was very close to the airport which was important to me so that made up for the small size of the room. It was also close to restaurants and other things downtown so if I were looking for activities they would have been within walking distance which is another good factor as taxis can be expensive.

The hotel was hard to find by car. We drove up from Sienna, using the website directions and those e-mailed to us but they ended up being pretty worthless. If you are driving, I'd suggest mapping it yourself or using GPS to find the place. Once we got there, the hotel was nice. The common areas and the facility itself were great, the rooms and especially the bathrooms were very small, even by Italian standards. The staff was pleasant but not overly welcoming - hotel staffs where we stayed in Rome and Venice were much nicer. The included breakfast was OK, but not great (breads, cereals, yogurt, etc. but little fruit and nothing hot). The hotel's location is excellent - easy walking distance to all the sites. Overall, it was a fine but not exceptional property. I would probably stay someplace different next time but would not hesitate to go back to the Cellai if that was what was available.

The bathroom and the room were as cold as in a refrigerator! Even though we informed the personnel about the non-existent heating nothing happened during our 4 night stay. Really poor, they should have eliminated this problem at first notice. We had to sleep with under several blankets. Really poor customer service!!
