This hotel is close to the train station and to the Duomo Cathedral. We had 2 noisy rooms: one facing the street and the other one right by the elevator. The rooms are very very simple but sufficient if you are planning to stay in Florence for a few days. Their breakfast was excellent.

I needed a room for just one night while heading for Cinque Terre. I got absolutley no sleep at the Caravaggio. They gave me a room an elevator ride up to the next floor. It wasn't until after midnight when the hotels kitchen quit banging pots and pans and laughing while working. It was if my room was situated above the restraunts dishwashing sink and personel. It was horrible. I politely asked for another room, "but none were available". To make it worse, the room was adjacent to where the mornings breakfast is served at 7:00am. Florence is full of hotels. Why take a chance of getting stuck in a room on the first floor at the Caravaggio.

This hotel is excellent. Staffs are really kind, moreover, rooms and facilities are clean. Florence is a small town, so we could go to everywhere on foot from this hotel.

Walk from station is short but sidewalks are very narrow and crowded so make sure you have rolling luggage. 3 blocks from Mercato Centrale, excellent location, great service from the front desk. I felt safe as a single woman travelling alone. I won't stay anwhere else in Florence again, I found my jewel!

I loved this hotel and although it is not right at the major visitor sites, it is not far. It is not far from the train station either so it was well suited for our trip. The market is also close for some great shopping. The staff was wonderful.

The hotel was in a good distance from the historical sights. The only problem was via Nazionale, where the hotel is located. This road is too busy during rush hours and it is not easy to walk with heavy luggage. The room was very cosy and very clean. The breakfast was adequate, the personnel was friendly and very helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Spent three days in the hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very quiet, clean room, very quiet -- I was initially disappointed because we had no view; however, quickly realized that that was preferable to a room at the front of the building which would likely have been noisier. Perfectly set air-conditioning, comfortable beds, although our 25-yr old son thought his single bed was a bit small. Nice big bathroom. Great breakfasts. Also, absolutely no noise from the other rooms or from the hallway. Very central -- 10 minute walking distance from train station and a short walk to lots of major sites in Firenze, including the Duomo, the market, museums, etc. Really appreciate the "trip advisor" comments. We made all our hotel reservations based on them and found them to be true and very useful. I would stay at this hotel again and highly recommend it.

My first comment has to be that the staff, one man in particular was extremely helpful, pleasant, and patient with us as foreigners. There is a restaurant recommended to us by this man which was modestly priced good food and it is right next door. This hotel was a long walk to many sites. We ended up getting a cab a few times to help out. This hotel will always bring up fond memories.

Overall, the hotel was decent enough. We had a clean and larger-than-expected sized european room. The staff spoke English very well. The breakfast they had was typical: cereal/pastries/boiled eggs/juice/coffee. The area is convenient to the Accademia and rail station. There are also lots of places to eat around there, the most notable being Trattoria Mario. During check-in, I was told that I had incorrectly booked a "double room for single use." I guess in Italy, you need to book a "room for double use" if you are to have 2 people staying in the room. It was just 10euro more a night, so luckily it wasn't too much of a shock.

The entire staff at the Hotel Caravaggio was outstanding. Monica was exceptionally helpful upon checking in and making reservations for the Uffizi. She and the rest of the front desk staff were always available for answering questions on trains, scooter rentals, directions, reservations and recommendations. My original intent was to stay for two nights but found them so accommodating that I stayed on and did day trips from Florence for a total of five nights.

Great location - within walking distance to the bus and train stations, as well as major sights. Friendly staff made great recommendations for restaurants nearby, as well as booked museum tickets for us. And although the hotel is on a busy street, the rooms at the back open onto a quiet green space. We would stay there again if we find ourselves in Florence.

Hotel Caravaggio was surprisingly good. The rooms were quite spacious and very clean, including the bathroom. The breakfast was standard for Europe, the staff was nice and helpful. I reserved a double room, and they gave me one small bed (we were 2). The hotel page web indicated it was located 200 meters from the train station. Congratulations to Caravaggio!

We chose this hotel because we thought it was close to the train station. It actually was quite a bit of a walk and it was on skinny sidewalks with a lot of construction around the area. We had to actually step into the street at times rolling our luggage. The area is also not the best in the city as it was not the cleanest of streets. It was suppose to be located near all the churches and museums, but it actually was very confusing to find places. The hotel itself was very clean and the staff was helpful. We especially liked Joseph and Monica at the front desk who helped us out with directions and restaurant recommendations. Our room was quiet and we had a very nice view out our window. The breakfast room was pleasant and the food was good. Pastries, cereals and hard boiled eggs and good coffee. The hotel itself was not bad at all, I was more disappointed with the street it was on. If you take cabs it would probably be fine. I must say that Florence was not at all what I expected it to be. The romantic city of the Renaissance is just a busy crowded modern day city. I think if I did ever come back here again I would stay closer to the bridges where it seemed to be a nicer area. Better still if you are touring the area around Florence I would just stay in Sienna which was just like a city out of Romeo and Juliet, then you could just take a day trip to Florence to get in the important sights.

Further than expected from train station but close enough to walk to all sights. Didn't like the area at night but if in early as a single traveller you're ok. Breakfast & room were ok. If opened window at night could hear street noises but if window remained closed it blocked most of the noise from street.

The people at the registration desk were helpful and efficient. Our car was picked up and delivered without any problems. We also enjoyed the breakfast buffet and the pleasant demeanor of the staff. The view from our window of the Duomo was enjoyed. We would definitely consider staying at the Caravaggio if we return to Firenze The directions obtained on line were not sufficient for someone driving into Firenze. It would have been helpful to mark the exact location of the hotel on a map. A more accurate street map with traffic directions would have been helpful.

Our room was quiet and clean. We loved the breakfast, more than adequate. Staff on the front desk were always helpful and kind. Easy access from the hotel to the sights, central market, etc. Our request for reservations at the Uffizi and Academia was handled by the hotel with forethought on the hotel's part, i.e. Uffizi at 9:30 and Academia not till 4 pm, leaving us time to do both places justice. The proximity to the train station made it an easy walk.

We chose this hotel as it indicated it was a few meters from the train station. You can walk to the station but its a good mile and a half away down a very narrow, very busy street. Trying to manuever your way through the throngs of people with your luggage on their slim sidewalks is a challenge unless your traveling with a back pack. The staff seemed to tolerate its guest. They were not in anyway eager to help, you were made to feel more like you were interrupting them. The worst and I mean THE WORST part is that these folks have no idea what insulation is. I heard the couple in the room next door, pee, burp, shower, talk and you can guess the rest. They might as well have been in the same room with us. You hear every door on your floor slam, every footstep. Basically it adds up to no sleep at all while staying in this place.

This was a great stay within Florence. The rooms were large, internet available and breakfast wonderful. You should not go hungry here. It was a bit hard to find the front even when we were right outside in the square. Maybe we didn't look hard enough. The staff recommended great eating places and local stores just around the corner. Everything is close from markets, ATMs, trains and of course all the key spots. If ever back in Florence, I would stay again.

We stayed in the Caravaggio for 6 nights on our stay in Firenze. We were very pleased with the location of the hotel as it was in walking distance of everything. The maps make it look farther than it really is. The breakfast in the morning was great and provided us with our much needed energy to walk around the city. The only thing that was a surprise to us upon our arrival of the Caravaggio was the size of the room. We are familiar with European standards but it still felt small for two people. On the upside, our room did boast a view of the Duomo! I would definitely recommend this hotel. I would also recommend that if you are interested in viewing the art galleries to get a reservation through the hotel, it was easy and made our trip to the Uffizi more enjoyable knowing we did not have to wait in any lines.

Florence can be expensive, and there are many "questionable" tourist hotels. After doing lots of research, I picked "Caravaggio," and was not disappointed! While the staff can seem a bit brusk and the common areas of the hotel are a little "old," the overall quality of this place for the money is excellent. My room was small, but perfectly fine for a single traveller. It was in a good location at the back of the hotel far from the elevator and the street (so very quiet). The bed was comfortable, and there was a bedside table, large wardrobe, a desk, and a small refrigerator, which was perfect for storing food for lunch and snacks. The bathroom was HUGE and spotlessly clean, with a proper bathtub (which I enjoyed using). Breakfast was a generous "continental," with lots of bread, crackers, rolls, cheese, boiled eggs, etc. The location is GREAT ... walking distance from the main train station and to all the major sights in the city centre. It's on a major street, so street noise could be a problem for those with rooms at the front of the hotel. There is a somewhat seedy park across the road populated by large groups of gypsies (who are all over Florence); but this didn't really bother me.

This is a wonderful hotel very close to the SMN train station and within walking distance of all the major sites in Florence. The room was very clean and comfortable with a great air conditioning unit that kept the temperature perfect and helped to block out the road noise, as our room overlooked the park across the street. The only downfall was the smell that came from the shower drain, but we covered it with a plastic bag and it solved the problem. The breakfast was excellent with a large selection of foods. The staff were great at providing information regarding local sights. It was very nice to sit and use the internet in the common area while enjoying a glass of wine.

Hotel is ideally placed for visitors. Easy walk from the railway station on arrival if tired. All the important tourist areas of Florence are walking distance. Stayed 4 days June '08 and never used bus or taxi. Nearby are some excellent restaurants - convenient after a long day. Small bar, lounge area and patio are perfectly adequate for size of hotel. Room size is typical of Italy. TV only small and all in Italian but if want television stay at home :-) Fully recommend this hotel.

Hotel Caravaggio was an excellent value in a perfect location. We enjoyed breakfast in the quaint breakfast area and there was a great park area across the street. We even received a free room upgrade when we arrived! Our first trip to Itlay for our 10 year anniversary was fantastic. We would definitely return to Hotel Caravaggio.

This was a great hotel and we had a wonderful stay. The hotel was clean and the staff were very polite and helpful. The small garden would be lovely to sit out in the warmer weather, a brief respite from the heat of the city.

The location of the hotel is convenient, about 7 minutes walking from the SMN train station. The hotel sits on a plaza and there are plenty of nearby restaurants, as well as a small supermarket and internet cafes. The room was clean and a good size (for European standards). The bathroom was nice and the shower was big. The TV was very small (13"), but did have two English channels. The breakfast had many choices and was one of the better breakfasts we had during our stay in Italy. Please note that there are room right outside the breakfast room, so I would recommend requesting not to stay in those because it would be loud starting at 7 am. The think this hotel was a good value for the price.

We found the Caravaggio to be a good choice for us. It is convienent to train station and tourist sights. Our room was clean and confortable. (don't expect large rooms in Italy) Our only disappointment was the size of the shower. What was oustanding about this hotel was the staff. Everyone was helpful and friendly. They went out of the way to help us with travel arrangements and answered all of our questions. This is a small hotel that was welcoming after along day of sight seeing.

This is the 2nd time we have stayed at this hotel the first in 2006 and again in April 2008. The location is excellent and the train station is (Santa Maria Novella) 5 minutes walk. The foyer area of the hotel is in need of painting as there are black marks all over the walls and it does detract from what is a nice entrance area. The first night we had a room at the front of the hotel overlooking the road and although noisy it was big with nice bathroom (with bath) The problem was we were awoken in the early hours by a drunken guest who had locked himself in the toilet and we had to get up and let him out. We requested to be moved and were given a room (203) at the back next to the lift. It had a view of a wall and you lookded down into the staff area full of bins and dirty towels. We again asked to be moved to a room with a bath and were told there was none available. The breakfast is typical of Italian hotels, yoghurt, buns etc. I must admit we were disappointed at our stay but would probably return as it does offer value for money in Florence and is a great location to explore this beautiful city.

Nice hotel, rooms ok for a short stay, not very spacious if staying for more than a couple of days. Very pleasant lounge area and terrace.

The hotel was lovely & the staff was very friendly & helpful. It is located with in blocks to the Cathedral & Campanile as open air markets. It is also close to the university & the second home of the Medici family, so there is much to see & do. The only thing that was a bit confusing was the directions to get there. It was indicated that it was close to the train station but not in which direction. And since I didn't know Florence at all, it was confusing as to which way to go once I got out of the station. I think it would be helpful for first time & solo travelers to include a map as well as directions that indicated North, South, East, and West. I would stay here again as it did have everything that I needed for my brief & first visit to Florence!

The hotel was clean, the breakfast very good and the people running the hotel were very helpful. The location puts you in walking distance of most everything you want to see in Florence. I recommend asking for a room in the back, because it is quiet there. Don't rent a car in Florence...to much traffic in very small streets. We walked and used the taxi to get from the airport. You can walk to the hotel from the train station.

This hotel is well located and has some nice features - most specifically a nice patio in the back where we ate lunch after buying food at the markets only a few blocks away. We were in three separate rooms, and our experiences were very different. The people on the third floor were very happy with the hotel. I was in room 110 which is across from the kitchen and literally in the breakfast room, very noisy starting very early. If they only have rooms available on the first floor, go somewhere else. We had no problem with the walk from the station with luggage, as some others have commented.

Spacious and impeccably clean rooms. Bathroom was spotless. Location is convenient to all major tourist sites given the small size of the city. The included breakfast was very good, saved us a lot of money from having to buy outside. Our room faced the street front so there was some traffic noise, but we were so tired we slept soundly. Would definitely stay here again!

There was a problem with a dreadful smell in the bedroom and we were told that we should not have opened the windows as the cause was a septic tank underneath. We were however offered a change of room on the second night. The only real irritation was caused by lack of access to any stairways ,as one lift for the whole hotel resulted in time spent waiting!

This was my second stay at the Caravaggio, this time on my own. Staff as friendly and helpful as ever. Single room adequte space. Will stay here on my next visit to Florence. Recommend restuarant- I Brincello small and friendly. Nice food and decent price 1/2 way between hotel and station on left hand side of street.

we notified the staff of the fact that our door to our room would not lock, but after four nights it still was not fixed! simply pushing it would open the door. we could not use our phone card from our room to call home, but were able to do so at our next hotels. we were concerned of our safety in that the door would not engage, and this was shown to one of the desk managers to no avail. Also never had english tv, inspite of the fact that we were told that we woul.

The hotel was great for a three star. Only issue was the lack of a shower curtain. It is very close the main market, the train station, and the Duomo.

The hotel was just a short walk (10 minutes) to the main attractions and the local parking garage was close. The rooms were clean and spacious enough to move around in. I currently live in Italy and took a trip to Florence with visitors. The hotel organized a taxi for them to get to the airport on their last day. The taxi showed up on time and it all went smoothly. I would recommend this hotel for anyone that is willing to walk 10 min. to the attractions. I will stay here again.

This was our first visit to Hotel Caravaggio and we were delighted to find that it delivers everything the web page says it will. What you read is what you get. The desk staff are very friendly and courteous and the cleaning is performed almost invisibly to a very high standard. Breakfast is basic but there's lots of it in nice surroundings. Our room was at the back and quiet enough for us notwithstanding close proximity to the Duomo and its bells. One small point: The hotel is approximately 300 metres from the main station on Via Nazionale - which is very narrow and busy at most hours of the day. Standing at the train/ bus station you need to take the first street to your left (there's a MacDonalds on the corner) and walk a few metres on an unmarked street which leads directly on to Via Nazionale. It is initially very confusing especially after a tiring days travel to get there. A most enjoyable visit. We intend to return to this hotel as soon as we can.

Very good hotel overall. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Very convenient for seeing Florence. Getting there by car quite hard but let the hotel park the car for you. One negative was a restaurant they recommended which was quite the most appalling meal we have ever had

Very good value for the money in all respects. Extremely helpful staff, very convenient location, and nice big clean rooms. What more could you ask for? The only (very minor) complaint would be that it's a pretty big room and has tile floors and no heater in the room other than the towel dryer rack in the bathroom. We stayed in Mid-January and when we checked in the window (with an awesome view of the city) was open so the room was definitely on the cool side that night trying to catch up. Took a hot bath in the Jacuzzi tub though and crawled under the covers and life was good! Close walking distance to the DeMedichi Museum, the outdoor market place, and all of the other touristy sites that anyone typically wants to see. My wife has MS and is handicapped, yet even in the Middle of January we walked to everything and it was very conveniently located. All in all a very pleasant stay and a very good value. Highly recommend to anyone else.

Hotel is rather far from train station. It is a questionable walk and we opted for taxi on return. Hotel is within walking distance of most landmarks but is not centrally located.

The room was clean and the hotel staff were friendly. However, the hotel is more than 200m away from the S.M.N train station, as indicated in the directions/location. It's quite a far walk, approx. 400m and the pedestrain walking from station to hotel is rather narrow. Hence, not very convenient for tourists with bulky luggages.
