Very good establishment. Price/quality ratio very correct during this period of time (March).(I have been offered a room in the recently revamped section of the hotel). The vicinity of the establishment from the famous historic locations is one of the advantages of this hotel.

Positive: very good location, relative cheap (compared to other hotels in the middle of Florence), nice breakfast, helpful english-speaking stuff. Negtive: Old house (some places need repair), small bathrooms, hot water comes only after 1-2 minutes, only italian TV, WiFi only in lobby

it was at the centre of the town! the common spaces were with impressive ceilings, the staff was nice and friendly, the only bad aspects were that the room was a little cold, that in order to go to the room i had to pass through a part of the hotel under constraction, the door of the room was with an old no safe lock. in general it was a good experience, my opinion for the hotel is positive

The best location you can dream of,with a common balcony on the Ponte Vecchio. A problem with the AC was fixed the next day.The single bed creaked. Breakfast was just uninteresting, nothing fresh except hard boiled eggs. But, the team is very pleasant and helpful, the rooms had nice colours, the lounge was great.

Some of the desk clerks did not speak English, so we had difficulty getting answers to our questions. The best part was the upgrade to a larger room with a view for no additional cost. The cost was what you would expect for Europe, who wouldn't like a better price? View was great, location great, continental breakfast good.

Liked the rooms in the hotel a lot. It can bee noisy if your neighbours like to talk in the middle of the night otherwise it´s ok, our room was quiet thinking about traffic from the street below. Breakfast was very nice. The hotelstaff was very nice.

Hotel Bretagna is in an excellent location in Florence. We chose a double room without bathroom which was quite suitable. We had use of an excellent bathroom, clean and large hot shower not far from our room. Our room rate was an excellent deal. Breakfast in all the hotels we stayed in in Italy was above usual hotel 'included' standard so in all the Hotel was good value.

My husband and I stayed in one of the double rooms without a bathroom. We never had to wait for the bathroom, and the facilities were clean. The elevator is now fully functioning. The room was NOT quiet-- you could hear talking, and they seemed to be cleaning out the remodeling waste at night (or at least it sounded like huge chunks of something being thrown down into the back of a truck!) This hotel has loads of character, and the common rooms are really amazing. Breakfast was fine for what we paid (very little) but if you have a nicer, newer room you will expect more!

Our room was very run-down - holes in the walls, dirty carpeting, cardboard-like mattress. I am impressed the people at the front desk could hand over a key to the room we stayed in with a straight face.

This hotel has bags of character, painted ceilings, and faded but lush traditional decor. The rooms were a little noisy and the shared bathroom could have been a bit cleaner, but copuldn't fault this hotel for its friendly and helpful staff, and its amazing central location. One thing to note though - the hotel is up a fair few stairs, though I believe there is a lift, disabled travellers would be wise to check with them first.

The position of the hotel on the river bank was excellent as you could never get lost in the maze of streets and gave easy access on foot to all the main sights. Breakfast was good and plentiful and the hotel provided a good sightseeing base.We would use it again should we return to Florence.

The location is superb. The service was top notch. Our party stayed in one triple and one double. The double was recently renovated and excellent in all furnishings and design. The triple was average and had difficulty with enough hot water and water pressure. We arrived later in the evening and found the gentleman at the front desk most helpful with our car (parking is a big issue in Florence) our multiple bags and tips on the area. We would all stay at this hotel again. We were in very close proximity to all we wanted to see and do. We had the garage come and pick up our car upon check in and did not need it again until our departure. Internet was available in the lounge area. Breakfast was excellent.

The hotel is similar with a palace. Is in the heart of Florence and is very quiet, spacious and clean. While the hotel itself is nice, the quality of the 'shared bathroom' was horrible. I've stayed in cheap hostels with nicer and cleaner bathrooms. It was dirty, poorly ventilated, and had a broken toilet seat, and broken shower head. The room itself was nice, but the walls were paper-thin. Also, the door lock/latch did not work well, requiring me to double check the door was properly shut. The location was fantastic, and the lobby, restaurant and lounge are very nice. Staff was friendly.

This was a hotel with a lot of character. The room was spacious and clean, though the shared bathroom was a bit of a walk. The breakfast spread was amazing and the hotel was in an excellent location to explore the city. The map does not indicate the hotel's location very well, so best to look it up before you get there. Would definitely recommend this place.

This is a great hotel in a great location. They are in the process of renovating but even the rooms not yet renovated are ok. The renovated rooms are great - new furniture, beds, large bathrooms with jacuzzi, wood floors and great view of Arno River. Service was good - all at reception were very helpful. I would advise them that the cab driver they obtained for us to go the 5 blocks to the station charged us 20 Euro which I thought was outrageous.

We stayed at the Bretagna for 2 nights (but stayed elsewhere in between) the first night was fantastic. We had a huge room and we very impressed. When we returned to stay the next time we found there was no room for us (despite us pre-paying) they then offered to relocate us to a lesser quality hotel on the complete opposite side of town with the only compensation being to pay for a taxi! We were appalled- after complaining they essentially said we will give you your money back and see you later! We were very, very disappointed, and not only did we waste lots of time trying to sort it out, but it also put a dampner on our whole trip.

I thought this place was great for the price! The shared bathroom was quite nice and easily accessible. It also had free wi-fi (definitely a bonus) and free breakfast (which was substantial). The room was reasonably large and the staff was very friendly and knowledgable. The only negative comment I have is that the building was under construction and that the hotel was on the second floor and not clearly marked. Other than that, I would say it's a great deal. I would definitely return again!

We were fortunate enough to be accommodated in a newly renovated section of the hotel, which was on it's way to being 3 star at least. Our room was enormous with a view out over the river Arno. The Bretagna was a real suprise. A beautiful old palace which is in the process of being renovated. Don't let that put you off, no noise during the early morning or evening and your out all day! You can see in to the other public rooms and see how they will look which is very interesting. I think in a while you will have to pay a lot more to stay in this lovely building. Our room had been modernised and had lost a little character, but was very nicely done. Fantastic location, you can walk everywhere. The staff were very helpful especially Dodo. Would def go back for another visit. Worth more than a 1 star rating.

Very nice hotel, nice staff. We had a brand new room with whirlpool bathtub and a nice view of Arno river. The hotel is near to the historical center, 3-5 minutes to reach Uffizi, Ponte vecchio e Palazzo della Signoria. There's just a little problem: some rooms are not in the main floor, so you have to walk in a cold stairway. Everything but that was ok, and the breakfast room is simply gorgeous.

Very good location, near the Ponte Vecchio, one of the main attractions in Florence, and really close to the center. i had a good stay, the breakfast was acceptable, people nice. The only bad point goes to the room size, around 10 sq. meters, which is not much more than a double bed size, double bed which was actually 2 mattress together. For the price it is a nice choice, i would certainly go back there, excepted during summer because i find their max rate of 115 euros for such a room with bath overestimated.

We were welcomed by the very friendly front desk staff who spoke excellent English (despite our best try at sub-par Italian) and showed us to our room immediately. The lobby area is beautful - a great place to overlook the Arno and have an evening drink or afternoon macchiato. The breakfast they provided was big and had a lot of options but did not go very late into the morning (if you sleep in too late, you'll miss it). I have two complaints: not enough bathrooms and the walls are paper thin. There was one morning my boyfriend and I both waited for about 40 mins to shower before giving up - luckily there is a sink in the room to brush your teeth and wash your face, etc. Also, on our first night the 3 girls staying in the room next door came home at 4 a.m. and keep us up for a while (before I went over and asked them to quiet down - which they did immediately). The next night we could hear the person next door snoring. So I am sure they could hear us too. But overall, for the price and location of Hotel Bretagna, it suited me just fine and I would stay there again (but maybe get a room with a private bathroom inlcuded).

I don't think I have ever stayed in a hotel like this before. It is in part of one of the old Florence palaces. Over breakfast you can look into (through a glass screen) two of the state rooms with gold leaf everywhere, chandeliers and frescos on the ceilings. It felt like quite a privilege to being staying there. It is all quite old and full of character. The lay out was quite complex - they had obviously made the best use of the sapce that has been given to them. Our room was round the back and had its own balcony - inside the room! It lead up to the high window from which you could see the top of the Doumo and the hills at the back of Florence. Really very unusual. Bath room was clean if a little small and oddly laid out. Getting into the bath was quite a task and the shower hose didn't reach up to teh top so showers were taken slightly crouched. When we arrived there were no plugs in either the bath or sink but they went out immediately and bought a selection. Lots of stairs but there is a rather small lift. Breakfast was adequate although nothing special. Location is wonderful. it's an easy walk from here to all of central Florence. As they say in there adverts, it seems pretty safe here. The building next door is the British Consulate which has a 24/7 armed guard of two officers. Overall a quirky place with some short comings, but we loved it.

We were two mature female friends, who visited Florence for the first time. The hotel location was very good- could walk to all the places, we wanted to see. The staff in reception was friendly and helpful- told us which places we should visit and helped us to find some good restaurants.Got a very tiny room the first night, but had a bigger one for the next three nights. Breakfast was good, and served in a beatyful decorated room, and in general the hotel has a good spirit with old furniture and great chandeliers.

The hotel is on the 2nd floor of a building that is currently encased in scaffolding and thus a little hard to find. There is construction happening and things are kind of dusty and noisy in the building in general. We stayed for two nights in room 25, which is without bathroom, but there was a sink. The bed was comfortable and the room very spacious. Complaints include that the window opened into a space where the surrounding buildings abutted and a strong aroma of rotting garbage would come through, except in the morning where the overwhelming smell of baking bread wafted in. There was no air conditioning, but I believe it was advertised that there was. There was a ceiling fan, and another fan too though. The shared bathrooms (there are two) were incredibly small, (and I've stayed in a lot of European hotels) and the shower head was sort of broken. However, the common areas were nice and the breakfast was simple and good. There is a bar, but the person behind the desk is also the bartender and will act extremely busy and exasperated if you ask for a drink. Also, they do not sell wine by the glass, only by the bottle and their low end Chianti is crap. Sitting by the window at sunset enjoying a drink pre-dinner, however was very pleasant. Additional note: I asked the desk receptionist for some help changing a reservation at a different hotel since I don't speak Italian and was met with, "How do I know who you are? Are you even my guest here?" She was no help whatsoever and her basic response was that they were a one star hotel, so go find tourist information. Gee, thanks.

This hotel was very good (basic) for the price. The location with a view of the bridges was excellent and its central location were excellent. Our stay was marred by the fact that we encountered the 'receptionist from hell' on our first day. She was overbearing, treated us like children, never stopped rabitting about minor issues, insulting and altogether too much to take. Additionally we had some difficulty locating the hotel due to the fact that the building is hidden by a scaffold and this could have been advised through the website.

Position - couldn't be much better. No plug in sink. Breakfast is good. Staff generally extremely helpful (with the exception of the sink plug). Has only been open a short time and the entrance on the ground floor which is used by other was dirty. Directions to get there were very poor. We would definitely stay there again. It was once a palace and the general rooms are fantastically decorated. We had a 4 bedroomed room for us and 2 kids which was plenty big enough for us.

1) One of the employees (Martina) was absolutely excellent: she even mailed back to me in Milan the cell phone charger I had forgotten in the room--at no charge. Other emplyees from whom I had requested this favor had been sort of difficult. 2) I was traveling with a colleague, another woman, and we wanted to share a room. The room we were given, in a newly renovated wing, was very nice. The only thing was that it had only one bed (allbeit king size). Not a big problem, but we would have been more comfortable with two twin beds. On the other hand, we did not ask them to change room at the beginning.

We stayed in Room #11 and there was an overwhelming nauseating odor in the room- we believe it was coming from the curtains and bedding. When we tried to change rooms- they said it was too late. Bathroom outside the room was awful. The only good part of the stay was that the person who served breakfast was very nice. I can't say the same thing for the people at the reception desk. NEVER stay here. NEVER.
