Friendly and helpful staff. Room was spacious with fridge that enabled us to buy food instead of using restaurants all the time as eating out in Florence is very expensive.Breakfast provided was excellent. Room was quiet and air conditioned which was great in such a hot humid summer.Access to sites was good with a map from the Tourist office just opposite the main train station. We used bus or walked everywhere. I am a teacher and was unaware that if I had proof I could have got half price entry to museums. Florence is wonderful. It was a trip of a lifetime for art, food and culture. Hotel Bologna made it an extra good stay and was excellent value for money. Highly recommended

Excellent hotel. The receptionist was extremely helpful and super friendly. Highly recommend that you book to get reservations at L'Accademia (home of David) and Uffizi museums. The receptionist is extremely helpful but will need a couple days to get a reservation. A definite must if you want to avoid hours of lines. Also free internet and breakfast is decent.

The sound insulation of the rooms is insufficient, since people were very noisy at all time of the night. A small poster remaining people that they are not alone would be a good idea.

We found this room to be somewhat dark and dull. The staff were not overly friendly but would answer questions when needed. Be aware that it is outside the Florence downtown area and requires a good 15-20 minute walk to the sights. There is a bus that runs into the downtown quite close to the hotel.

I had a good stay at the hotel. It was a bit far from the centre of town - though that meant it was very quiet, and affordably priced, and it was nice to be out of the touristy areas and to walk in the mornings to get to the centre - plus there were great restaurants very close by. The only downside was that the first room I was put in was pretty bad - I could hear the plumbing from everywhere in the hotel, every time anyone turned on a tap or flushed the toilet. And it was tiny. But I let the hotel know, and they moved me to a beautiful room on a higher floor. So all in all a good visit.

Comfortable, clean, all amenities worked perfectly and excellent service. I enjoy walking, so the fact that this hotel is slightly away from the centre was not an issue for me. It is situated in a very nice part of Firenze which is residential. Excellent value for money, too.

Friendly family run hotel, very welcoming and comfortable. We found handy to most things, with bus just round the corner. As keen walkers we found it close enough for us to the main city centre and you could walk either along the Arno or along interesting streets to get to where we wanted. Close enough to walk up to Piazzo Michaelangelo to overlook the city at night.

Very happy with my stay! For a single room it was a good size - the biggest of all the single rooms I stayed in throughout france and Italy. Clean and comfortable and the staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel is away from the historic centre so I would catch a bus to get there. However, the bus stop is around the corner, I never waited more than 5mins for one to arrive and it takes approx 10min to get to the center. Also a block away from the hotel you can find lots of shops and cafe's as well as a supermarket. Would reccommend the hotel and would stay there again.

As first time travelers to Florence we found the Bologna fit our needs very well. We enjoyed being out of the core city hustle and bustle and yet within walking distance to same. Bus #14 fine outgoing too but beware returns. Added bonus: wonderful nearby restaurants with inexpensive mouthwatering food where the natives eat. Favorites include Fuori Piazza , La Lunna, La Stagioni for pizza, pasta, and antipastos and a gem for coffee drinks and pasteries Called Caffe Pasticeria Serafini. Friendly staffs and enough English to work with our very limited Italian

Even though the hotel is not directly in the center of town, it was still in a beautiful location. The people couldn't have been nicer! After a long flight and barely any knowledge of Italian, they were more than helpful and so kind and welcoming. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who has a low budget but is still looking for nice places to stay.

Bologna Hotel is neither great nor bad, I chose it because of the price. Its main inconvenience is that, although not far from downtown, it takes you at least 20min on foot to get to any interesting place, while the bus is always crowded and late.

This was my first trip to Italy and my husband's third, but first vacation. We chose the Bologna at the recommendation of a colleague who's had visitors stay there when he lives in Florence for 10 week stays. With good reason. They know how to treat guests. hotel outshines every horror story I read online in setting up this trip. Tastefully decorated, with a little reading area, small bar, and elevator. The charming and cheerful Antonella, hotel manager, is everything one could want in a welcoming tourist facilitator. She speaks fluent English and tells great stories. When we needed a cab to the train station or a bus map, she handled it smoothly. Those staffing the breakfast buffet are unobtrusive and provide very fine service. The eating area is lovely, convenient, and stocked with plenty of light fare. We were surprised to see people there, as the hotel was so quiet, it seemed we were the only guests--except for one who snored through the somewhat thin walls. Our room was well-lit, airy, very clean, offered good storage space, and included a good sized bathroom and full-sized shower. The neighborhood is delightful: urban-residential space, thus including all the basics plus restaurants, fashion shopping, coffee shops, and a bank. Housing there is more modern and sunny, striking a good balance to the medieval heart of Florence. Being near the river was lovely, with green space and mountains seeming close at hand. Travelers uninterested in the very pleasant 15-min walk to Piazza Santa Croce or 20 minute walk into the Uffizi square should get the map from Tourist Info at the train station which shows routes for the orange electric bus. I found Bologna a pleasant buffer zone after a day among my fellow tourists in the clogged art zone, where restaurants serve later, unlike Bologna's area. There, nights are quiet and safe to walk at 11:00 pm. A desk person was always available to let us in. All this for a reasonable 95 euro a night. You can't beat it. Bologn

The manager is very friendly and service-minded; he even carried our suitcases to the street when we left and we didn't have to pay our drinks. It's a shame the coffee (oploskoffie) is disgusting (unless you drink it with the excellent frotted milk provided). The coffee at the entrance, on the other hand, is excellent. The beds are great, although maybe a little bit short for some tall Europeans; I managed quite well for my 1.77 meter. They gave us a double bed upon arrival, thought we had requested single beds, but we slept ok anyway and we got our single beds the next day. Once I was too late for breakfast, but got some anyway (with excellent coffee even!). Overall: great stay!

Nice hotel. Good price. Outside of the city center. Not handicap accessible, the pictures of the hotel miss the dozen stairs that one must to go up to enter the hotel lobby and get to the elevator, which is also not large enough for a wheelchair. The owner of the hotel was very helpful, and most of the staff was helpful as well, although no one at the hotel spoke English well enough to really answer most of my questions. The breakfast was really nice and a great start to the day. The time for the breakfast was really open. I spent a over a week there and it was nice. The room was the largest that I have seen in Europe and the bathroom was the cleanest. Heated towel racks are a nice touch. The TV is tiny and only has a few channels in Italian and French. Internet is not included in the rate even though it looks like it is. Be prepared to do a lot of walking, taxis are really expensive. Nice hotel, comfy bed.

As a solo traveler who enjoyes being off the beaten path this hotel was a great match. It's about a 20min. walk to the center, through an Italian neighborhood. Not only do you see locals going about their everyday you also have the benefit of avoiding the high food prices that you'll find in the center. This hotel was well worth the price, the room was a small, simple, single and very clean. One night I did have a loud group in the room beside me but over all it was very quiet. The morning brought the chime of church bells and a local preparing for the opera which was a real treat! Breakfast was standard croissant, bread, boiled eggs, cheese, cold meats and cereal with juice and coffee. The hotel is 2-3 blocks from the Arno river where there's a park the locals meet in the afternoon for coffee and chit-chat if you like people watching or have kids. If you enjoy simplicity and quiet and don't mind a bit of a walk I highly recommend this hotel. If you're looking for glamour and everything at your feet it's not the place for you. I was there in August of 2008 I can't remember what bus they said on the site but it wasn't right and I was able to get on another so don't be shy to ask any of the bus drivers they're very helpful.

It's a very nice hotel to stay in Florence. It's situated in quiet area and still it's pretty close to the city center (about 20 minutes to Duomo, e.g.). If you travel by train, there is a station near the hotel (Firenze Campo Di Marte, one stop before the final station Firenze S. M. Novella), it's just 10 minutes on foot. The staff is really helpful and friendly (thanks for everything!). The breakfast is very good with cereals, yogurt and fruits, it's not just a coffee and a croissant. They also have wi-fi Internet connection, just ask for password at the reception. The only thing that wasn't so nice was heating, it makes the air dry when turned on. If we go back to Florence we will definitely stay there again. And the city is worth going back:)

I stayed with my mother for 4 days over the Christmas period and we loved it! The staff were very friendly and incredibly helpful, the breakfast was good and the location was brilliant - it's about a 20 minute walk to the medieval centre but that's via some interesting bits or along the waterfront so it's not arduous. The location is quiet and the rooms very clean, a good size and with everything provided. We loved it and would recommend it to others - especially for the price.

Located on the outskirts of the old city, close to the Arno River and a block away from a buzzing shopping district, this is an great hotel, at a great price. The staff were all very accommodating and friendly, and dealth with an unforeseen problem of leaving a handbag behind in the room with speed, efficiency and real empathy. Wer booked a family room (two kids aged 8 and 11) and we got what we expected in terms of a crowded room. We enjoyed the breakfasts, and felt the hotel was great value for money, and a great base to explore Firenze. We will return!

The staff spoke excellent English and were very helpful with someone on staff 24 hours a day. The breakfast was fantastic with both meat and cheese and home brewed coffees. We found the location to be very good as well and the staff directed us as to the public transit when necessary. Fine hotel, approx 15-20 minutes walking from Piazza della Signoria. This way you'll see more of Florence, compared with a stay in one or the other tourist trap hostel in the city centre. Nice busy district around the corner (Via Vincenzo Gioberti). Go visit the pizzeria Fuori Piazza around the corner. Fantastic atmosphere, excellent down to earth food, very good prices. You'll only find the Florentines themselves over there. And me of course, when I'm around. :-)

We very much enjoyed our time at the Hotel bologna. we had room 24 with a large balcony, the linen and towels were changed every third day and the room was cleaned daily. The bar frig was very well stock and reasonable priced. The hotel had a lift, the staff were well versed in English and extremely helpful. The breakfast was very good, well serviced with a wide variety of selections, cereal, meat, juice, fresh fruit ,yogurt, cheese, bread, the coffee was excellent. Le Stagioni Pizzeria Spaghetteria restaurant was just down the street, great food and very good prices. Pay euro 1.20 at the train station get on bus number 14, it is probably more then three stops to the hotel. When we return to Firenze, we certainly will stay at Hotel Bologna

Great little hotel. Rooms are very nice, and more spacious than our hotel in Venice, which cost 3 times as much. Gracious front staff, spoke very good English. Hotel is located away from the toursit area, which made for a quiet and pleasant stay. It was a very nice walk to the city center, along the river (15 to 20 minutes). Breakfast could be improved, but by Italian standards it is good. I would definately stay at Hotel Bologna again.

This was a very nice place to stay. About 15-20 min walk from the core of Florence (i.e Duomo etc.) but in a quieter and more residential neighbourhood. So the walks in the morning and evening to and from the hotel allowed you to "re-group". The quality was excellent for the price and the price for drinks in mini-fridge was very reasonable. Overall, I was glad because it allowed me to spend money elsewhere for travels. The staff were all very friendly too.

Its a great hotel! Ive come to the conclusion over the years that a hotel is a hotel if its clean ,safe area(especially for children) and gives good breakfast and nice to you. Location is also important. This little hotel has it all. From reading the previous reviews I decided to book it as they were 90% positive. I wasnt disappointed. It is in a quite neighbourhood with friendly staff who give good instructions and speak english well (I cant speak italian!!! SHAME) Food is good and of the two resturants they recommended - 4pizza is best. I felt a bit ripped off in the other one , cant think of its name but it starts with T Tranoni or something like that. Make sure you get bottled water as they will stil charge you for 'Tap water' Back to the hotel - they left us leave our bags in the hotel while we browsed the city on the day we were leaving. i really cant praise it enough. Suffient to say if I owned a hotel this is the standard I,d aspire to. ***** five star and high fives!!! Great for a family room.

We were on our honeymoon in Florence in mid June 2008. The hotel is not far from the Firenze SMN station but you need to take a 20 minutes' bus ride (bus route 14) from the station when you carry a backpack / luggage. Stephen, the staff is very nice and friendly, he could provide the exact information about travelling Firenze and Pisa. The room we had is on the 2nd floor, facing the street and with a balcony, air-con, bathroom, 14" TV, about 200 sq feet. It's clean but when we open the balcony window, several mosquitoes you will find in the room. The location of the hotel is quite quiet and easily to be reached. It's only take 25 minutes' walk from Duomo. The breakfast is common. I will stay again if I come back because the price is reasonable and the area is much quiet than the centre. Apart from carrying the backpack, we chose walking to the Firenze centre.

This hotel is really nice to stay in Florence. We stayed there for three days. And we were well pleased. The hotel do not equip a small refrigerator in each room. But beer, wine and cold beverages are available in the tea room next to reception for reasonable price all the day. So we did not complain about this point. The hotel is located near bus stop, big super market (Coop) and fine restaurant (pizzeria). Breakfast was also nice. We strongly recommend all of economy tourists to use this hotel.

We had a great stay. We were only there for two nights, but we enjoyed our time. The hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They had a shelf with lots of travel books on the area that guests could borrow. We had a quad room that was very spacious by European standards. The bathroom was clean with a shower that had good pressure. The breakfast was typical for Italy with a few extras. The hotel is a little outside of the core, but that is what I liked the most about it. We could walk in to town everyday in 15min with 2 kids age 6 & 7. The walk was filled with little shops and restaurants to enjoy. It was in a residential neighborhood so you felt like a local. Good bakery around the corner too.

We stayed for two nights in a double and a triple room. We were extremely satisfied. The hotel is in a quiet area about 15 min walk from city center and 1 or 2 blocks from a bus stop (depending on direction), giving the advantage of good access to the city without the noise and crowds. The hotel is also close to the river, the Campo di Marte train station, and several local restaurants. The rooms were quiet and comfortable. The lobby had wifi internet access(extending to one of our rooms). The breakfast was fine, with a variety of choices. The staff was very helpful, although the night staff didn't speak English well.

I had a wonderful 8 day stay at this hotel. It was in a nice quiet neighborhood, just a 30 min walk from downtown or you could take the bus. They were very helpful. Spotlessly clean. Very nice bathroom. My bed was a little saggy for my big frame, and some sound carried through the wall, but the breakfasts were the best I've ever had in Italy in my 4 weeks of travel. A buffet of cheeses, meats, yogurt, whole grain cereals, fruit, hot crosants ect. An incredible value.

Very good hotel. Clean and large rooms. A litle far from the city center, but for the price is OK.

Excellent hotel. One of the best I stayed in during my trip to Italy. The staff was very professional and accomodating. They even loaned me an umbrella when it rained one day! They also recommended a pizzeria about one block away that served one of the best meals I had while there. The antipasto was out of this world.

Quite a simple room but the hotel was clean and good value. Staff were very helpful and the area was very good. A bit away from the centre but the buses were good and the many pubs and restaurants in the area where excellent; not only good value but offered much better quality than same price in the centre.

We've spend only one night but we found fully satisfaction.1 room 4 persons and breakfast for 80 euros. If you're a looking for a good place to stay in Florence, Hotel "Bologna" is the right place. We had no problem to find a parking place for our car close to the hotel and we made it to the historicalal center in less than 15 minutes by feet along the river. De plus la chambre ainsi que la salle de bain étaient trés propres, l'hôtel calme.

The hotel is far from the train station, but if you like to walk and have a map it's fine. Also you can take the bus but i didn't. The room it's good and the breakfast too.

This is the second time I have stayed at the Hotel Bologna. I returned because my first stay was so nice. I was not disappointed this time. The same staff, very nice and accommodating. This may not be an ideal location for a first time visitor to Firenze since the hotel is a little outside of the center. However, for someone who is adventurous and likes the quiet of a residential ares, Hotel Bologna is a gem.

It was a bit difficult to find the hotel, since we were driving from Rome w/o the Navigation system. But the staff at the hotel, (esp. Anatella)was extremely helpful in assisting us. The other staff were also helpful, esp. with information and providing a parking lot. Breakfast was great & ample. The bathroom was clean & the shower bigger than the other hotels. Though you need to walk a little more than 15 - 20 mins to the various tourist sites, it is well worth it. Wonderful pastry / bakery & ice- cream shops round the corner, wonderful market a little further down and also a super market. For those who want "Indian-like" food, try the little kebab store, just past the Beccaria, and don't forget to pop into the 1 Euro store. Try the "tripe" with bread as well - only to be found in firenze. We would definitely recommend this place to others, and stay here again.

Very nice staff gave me useful and time-saving tips, including ticket reservations. Great breakfast as well. It worked fine for me as I was able to park right at the door of the hotel (no private park though) and get quickly to city center.

The hotel is close to the river Arno, which make a beautiful walk to and from the centre of Firenze. The hotel is situated further up Via Orcagna than indicated on the map on the Venere web-site. The shortest way to the centre is by Via V Gioberti and Piazza Beccaria, you can reach the Duomo in 15 min. The surroundings of the hotel is quiet, but I could easily hear the guests in the neighbouring rooms. The staff was great, and the breakfast very good.

Why I gave an excellent score? I just didn't put 10 at everything for finished the evaluation quickly, I remembered every single aspect when I was reading the question, and everything was wonderful. Can I evaluate the personnel with an 11+ ? They were AMAZING giving addresses and tips, nice nice people. The rooms where very cozy and clean, and the breakfast was super too. Just take the bus 14 for going anywhere of interest (as the train station and baptistery) and back to the hotel. Nice restaurants, parks and walks around it. Completly safe sorroundings. The pics of the hotel doesn't make any justice to it. I found wonderful hotels through venere.com, just read the traveleres comments and you'll find a good hotel.

We were very lucky to get a parking space outside the Hotel, well untill the street needed cleaning. Make sure you find out about this when you arrive (as we were told) otherwise you'll end up with a fine.

Very nice hotel. Clean, nice rooms, nice staff and good prices. Might be considered a little bit far from everythng central. You have to walk for like 10-15 minutes but we didn't mind it at all.

Great hotel and a very familiar staff. Hotel Bologna was confortable and very nice. Perhaps my room was a little bit dark and the bath too little, but relationship between price/quality is really great.

An excellent place to stay,if you're looking for a quiet and safe neighbourhood, 15' from the centre. As we were travelling with a motorbike, we felt very safe leaving it right outside the hotel, thus we didn't have to pay for a private parking. Excellent value for money, clean and super-super breakfast! Super tip: get a bike from hotel Orcagna, just opposite for 5 euros per day; THE perfect way to see Firenze!!
