Hotel Reviews Bigallo
USA, Jan 2010
Location is outstanding. You are literally across the street from the Duomo, which made for a magnificent view out our window. Breakfast was okay, nothing extraordinary. Staff was pleasant and helpful. As a party of 3, the loft room worked perfectly, although you heard the epople next door everytime they walked up and down their steps. But the key feature of this hotel is it's location.

My husband and me have been in Florence four times untill now. This time we were with our friends (three couples). We were very satisfied with the hotel and especially with the location. We got beautiful rooms with beautiful view as we asked for. We had only one problem: car navigation did not find the hotel when we came. Anyway we will use this hotel also next time.

if you are french you must ask an expresso coffee cost just 1 euro if you like good coffee for breakfast otherwise the bread is not good as french boulangerie but for the price is good deal if you pay 78 euros . if you pay 140 euros in may june and july it is too expensive .

Staff friendly and helpful - could have communicated more about special ongoing events, i.e., weekend wine festival giving free access to State museums. In spite of being only yards from the duomo, the room was very quiet. Downside: a little mold up high in one corner; didn't bother us, but it may bother others. Would certainly recommend the Bigallo to others.

When we arrived at Bigallo, they were overbooked and sent us to their sister hotel (de Lanzi). The sister hotel was nice and they upgraded us to a room with a view of the Duomo. Very good price for the center of Florence.

We got a very good rate, which made the Bigallo seem fantastic value, given its unbeatable location and very comfortable, quiet rooms. The staff were very welcoming and showed great patience and tact in their dealings with my elderly parents.

We had a hard time with the noise in this place--leave your window open and there is a ton of street noise. Close the window and use the AC...the actual air conditioner was really really noisy too. So not a very restful sleep. The location was great however, and the breakfast was OK.

Directly across from Duomo. Incredible location. Staff very professional. Would definitely return! Ask for Donna Bella room -- directly overlooks Duomo...but, you will hear street noise.

The hotel has many positives - the location is EXCELLENT right near the Duomo and main square. There is a view of it all from the hotel foyer. Rooms are large and have everything needed. Breakfast is good however it was strange that they didnt refill anything after it was gone, so if you got there late and there wasnt much - too bad!! Most of the staff dont speak very much english but one of the reception staff is very good. Our huge negative with our stay was that they took a 'pre-authorisation' from my CC and it was never credited back, and I paid for the stay on top of it. I had to contact Visa which they told me it was their merchant that hadn't released the funds back to me. I let Hotel Bigallo know this however they wouldn't help me by contacting their merchant about this issue. Visa are now chasing them for my refund. Be aware of this!!

The location of the hotel is just perfect as it stands just next to the Duomo, even though they say that some rooms have the cathedral view, we didn;t get one and it looks like very few are lucky, rooms are not very clean, but bathroom is good +they provide a huge mountain of face towels + there was a landline phone on the wall in the bathroom for some unknown reasons ;)))

Payment only in cash not informed previously in the website. Invoice provided only by request. Spider webs on the room walls. Twin beds placed together in very poor conditions (horrible mattresses). Very poor breakfast with only one kind of bread. The most advantage is hotel location.

The room completely met our specified requests, and exceeded our expectations. Both view (if you get the right room) and location can hardly be any better in Florence. Among dozens of hotels experiences around Europe over the past years, this is definitely the best so far, price considered. If we would go back to Florence, we wouldn't stay anywhere else.

"Photographs","Location as indicated", "Type and number..." : I did not fill those items because when we arrived in Bigallo Hôtel, it was overbooked and we were sent to Lanzi Hôtel, very near from Bigallo, which belongs to the same owner. But it was all right and we were welcome and we enjoyed our stay in this hôtel. At least it was not a problem and we recommand Lanzi Hôtel even if we were surprised to be overbooked in Bigallo Hôtel.

Hotel is on the 3rd floor of an old apartment building, with only a tiny elevator. Yet the location is excellent -- literally bang in the middle of the city, steps away from the Duomo. Great base to discover Florence.

We were booked at the Bigallo but when we arrived the doors were locked. We rang the bell and someone came out and walked us over to the De'Lanzi. For the same price we were even closer to the Duomo and only a few feet away from the best gelatto in town. It was a perfect location for us since we could wander in any direction by foot or easily catch a taxi or bus. I would skip the coffee from the machine and buy it in any of the places close by.

It was great, with a beautiful view, but we did get one of the rooms facing the Duomo. The only problem we had was at night there was a lot of noise, but it was Halloween. I suggest ear plugs and it would be perfect. The room was very nice and big and comfortable. The door lock was great and the breakfast was continental. I would stay again.

Probably the best value for money in Florence. I am pretty picky when it comes to hotels and, for a city centre hotel right next to the Duomo, this was excellent. No other hotel has as good a location. The hotel was clean, smart and a good size. Breakfast was pretty good for Florence. I recommend this hotel to anyone. It's not obvious where reception is when you go in the front door! Take the lift up to the 3rd floor and there it is.

The outside appearance is not good but when we got to the 3rd and 4th floors where the hotel was located it was good. We had a room overlooking the Duomo which was lovely, some rooms did not have a view. The breakfast was good, and the waitress very friendly and helpful.

After visiting Florence innumerable times and having stayed at the Bigallo twice the last year we can only say: this hotel is an absolute must! Professional and kind service, tasteful, clean and spacious rooms (each with a suitable name) at reasonable prices and all the great sights of this fantastic city within walking distance. Not to speak about the immediate surroundings (see the photo taken from our hotel window). We can hardly wait till next time.

Amazing location! Try to get a room with a view. Staff were nice, not friendly, no smiles, but good at their jobs. The breakfast room is quite dull, hardly any natural light and you don't want to stay in there for long, breakfast not great.Location wins though and overall fab hotel.

This was a very nice hotel and the location could not be better. The photos showing the Duomo just outside your window are very accurate, at least for the room we had. The property is beautifully decorated and pretty classy. The staff was helpful if not especially talkative. The entrance is tricky. It is located down a short alley off the main street. Once inside you have to know to enter the tiny elevator at which point you will see the third floor button labeled "Hotel Bigallo". The first two floors are something else, possibly residential. The location is incredible. You are right in the middle of everything. We walked everywhere.

The Bigallo is an excellent facility in the heart of Florence. It is literally a stones throw to the Duomo and is on a main pedestrian shopping street. The hotel is on the third floor of a charming building and a lift is provided. The rooms were exceptionally large considering its location and were spotless. As with most hotel accommodations in Italy, the breakfast was just mediocre. We would highly recommend this property to anyone travelling to Florence.

This hotel is definitely well located, the Duomo is right outside the front door. However, our room was very noisy at night and it was facing the alley. clean and nice, spacious 1 bedroom apartment, centrally located, but tricky to find due to strange system of building numbers in Venice. Toilett bowl was not secure to the floor and needs repair. we arrived very late and charge person was available to bring us the keys ( after midnight ) you just need to find a phone to call them upon arrival... altogether, it was a good experience. It was not an hotel so some questions were irrelevant for this location.

The airconditioning had apparently been deactivated prior to our stay (Sep 29-Oct 3); the weather was still warm, the window inadequate, and street noise abundant.

Best room we had on our trip through Italy. The view of the Duomo from our room was amazing. Request the Donatello room. The room was huge compared to rooms in Europe. The size of the room reminded me of a US hotel room. I would recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Florence. Centrally located and very clean.

Hotel was in a great location. Room was clean, but did kind of smell. The staff was not very friendly. At every hotel we stayed at in Italy we were always greeted in the morning at breakfast with, "Is there anything I can get you, coffee or capaccino?" Not here. The food was bad as well.

When we arrived at Hotel Bigallo it was closed. We were taken to Bigallo's sister hotel, Hotel De'Lanzi. At first we were a little concerned as nobody explained where we were going. However the hotel was clean and in a superb location for central Florence. The room was slightly on the narrow side but our view was onto the Duomo tower. No complaints from us at this price!

Canada, May 2006
The location of the hotel is very central, being in a corner building, which forms part of the Piazza del Duomo. The hotel is situated on the third floor of the building, accessed by a small elevator or the stairs (European third floor, meaning third floor above the ground floor) My room had a pleasant view of the 'backyard', looking towards the inside of the city block, where pleasant domestic (real) lives of the inhabitants can sometimes be heard. The room was clean and well outfitted with functional, yet tasteful furniture, including a firm, supportive mattress and a modernized bathroom. The bed cover was even fitted and coordinated with the curtains! (I don't recall such detail in other hotels of this classification.) The nicely furnished public sitting room, by the reception desk, has a superb view of the Duomo and the Via dei Calzaiuoli below, but the breakfast, a continental fare with the addition of cold-cut meats and cheese, is served in a view-less inner area, adjacent to the reception. (Understandably, the rentable hotel rooms are situated along the 'front', cutting off the breakfast room from the spectacular view. A window with a view to the 'backyard' would have made the breakfast room immensely more pleasant by giving it visual relief, as well as more natural light.) Having said that, the main reason to be in Florence, of course, is not to linger over breakfast in your hotel, but to experience the City. For that purpose, the hotel's location is perfect for urban tourists, who'd like a well outfitted place to stay at, which is centrally located. Highly recommended.

The location is almost surely the best in Firenze--literally at the edge of the piazza Duomo. The bell tower was directly across from our window. When the Duomo bells rang I was concerned about sleeping but they do not sound during the night.

Excellent rates for the location in Florence, the chimes at 07:00 in the morning make you get up for breakfast. the only downside (which is very small) I couldn’t get a iron for my clothes it might have been my Italian is still poor or the hotel hasn’t got any.

The hotel is in a great location-we had a spectacular view of the Duomo. It's about a 10 minute walk to the train station. We had a large triple room, with a loft. The room was updated, new bathroom, very clean. We were also asked if we could pay cash since we were quoted such a low rate (130.00 euros), but it wasn't a problem when we checked out and paid by credit card. The only noisy night was a Saturday night. The bells ring at 7AM...it was a great wake-up call. The breakfast wasn't very good-the coffee was horrible, some croissants, cereal, yogurt, fruit that wasn't that fresh. There is a small elevator to take you up to the 3rd floor to check-in. You cannot beat the location and the rate. I would definely return.

Location- The hotel is in an excellent location by the Duomo and so close to other attractions/areas of the city. It was great to be able to walk to what we wanted to do. Accomodations - The room we stayed in was very spacious and clean and had a great view of Florence. Also, the bathroom was HUGE and had great facilities. The only draw back of this hotel is that they insisted on a cash payment for the stay when we checked out. We could not pay cash and they eventually accepted a credit card. I am not sure why they have this policy, especially since you are reserving the room(s) online with a credit card. Besides the payment issue, the stay was great and I would recommend their hotel for future visitors to Florence.

This is really a review of the Hotel De Lanzi as the Bigallo was closed when I arrived due to some sort of "problem". I was met at the hotel by a staff member and taken to another hotel run by the same family just around the corner (Hotel De Lanzi). The hotel was also listed as a 3-star accomodation and was within 1 block of Il Duomo, so the location was awesome. The room was spacious, though somewhat dark- the windows looked out upon two narrow paasageways and the adjoining buildings. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was typical European continental, but I was not pleased with the 2-3 day old rolls that were provided on my last day. Overall, a great location and decent hotel for the price.

The location is unbeatable. The rooms were lovely and even spacious by European standards. Be aware of your promixity to the bell tower - it rings for several mnutes every morning at 7am. Anna, the afternoon receptionist, was very helpful. My only negative comment would be that just as we were checking in, we were asked if we could pay in cash as we had been quoted such a low rate through Venere. We ended up paying by credit card which they begrudgingly accepted.

First of all: go to the top floor for check in! That might help if added to the sign. We had no problems finding the hotel, just the front desk. Anna was very helpful with directions by email and directions and ideas for dinner once we got there. The room was bigger than I expected, nice clean bathroom. Breakfast was fine to get you going. And the location was amazing! I would highly recommend this hotel.

Excellent location, however, rooms on third/fourth floor and although there was a small lift there were some steps to climb initially. Rooms facing the dome had great views, not so sure about the others. Breakfast was edible, but would have been so much better had the bread rolls been fresh every morning. With not too much luggage hotel is within walking distance from station, just head for the dome.

This Hotel is so Perfect it will be hard to put everything into words!!!! To Start with I must say that the Hotel Desk Person (Anna) went out of her way to make our stay in Florence magical. She went the extra mile to help us do things in and around florence, along with a trip to Sienna with a private driver. Thanks Anna... The room we got was a Loft type room that was great, clean, and modern. But the best was the view...I opend the window and I was directly infront of the Duomo. I felt so close I could touch it! Breakfast was nice and simple...Fresh. And the room is clean and friendly. As for Food try to go to Trotteria Armondo ( One of the top 5 Resturants on my list of best food) you must though make a reservation! Price for two people with everything 100 euros, but trust me it's the best! When I go back to Florence I will stay here no questions asked it was that good!

we got an unbelievable rate of 150 euros a night, and bigallo is literally right outside of the duomo. i would recommend this place to everyone. the staff was pretty good, some of them didnt speak too great english, but for the price, forgetaboutit. Also, they attempted to make us pay cash for the room to get the special rate, but our reservation said nothing about a special rate, so we said here's a credit card, take it or leave it.....they took it. all in all i would easily give this place B+ or A- for location, cleanliness and especially price. any questions? celeroo at gmail.com

It was my first time in Florence. Hotel Bigalo was under renovation but the hotel we stayed at was I guess the sister hotel, Hotel Di Lanzi(??). It was the the best hotel I stayed at in Italy. Very clean, big, spacious bathroom, nice view of the Duomo, right in the heart of the city. I am very impressed overall, with this website: venere.com. Their prices are the cheapest among the other websites. I will use this web site again.

Beautiful room overlooking the Duomo. Charming public areas. Building entrance is scruffy. Have to take the elevator to third floor to find hotel. But that's okay. My only complaint was they asked me to pay cash instead of using a credit card. I would have much prefered to be told this before having the reservation confirmed. Get a room with a view of the Cathedral. It will be worth paying cash.

I recently re-visited Florence with my boyfriend who had never been before. I am always slightly hesitant to book hotels online but we were both really pleased with Bigallo. I requested a room with a view which we got and our windows opened out directly onto a fantastic view of the Duomo square - fantastic!! The location was great, right in the centre and considering this, other than the ringing of the bells from the cathedral (which i felt added to the experience rather than take away from it), you couldn't hear the hustle and bustle of the passers-by outside. A really lovely hotel - I would definately go back!

The location of this hotel could not be beaten. You walk out the door and you are at the Duomo which is the center of florence. It was very easy to walk to other places. When we arrived at Hotel Bigallo, the above mentioned hotel did not actually exist, as we later on discovered, and we were told that they had problems with the hotel's plumbing and as a result the hotel was closed. When we tried to contact the hotel by phone, we were told to go to another hotel owned by the same company, something which came to us as a surprise! Fortunately the other hotel was not very bad, it was centrally located but the whole experience was very unpleasant for us.
