hotel lobby
Hotel Azzi is an ecological oasis in the very centre of Florence, in the picturesque pedestrian district of San Lorenzo. The property is a short walk from the central station and the Fortezza-Palaffari and only 5 minutes from Piazza Duomo.
The property is the typographer Barbera's old building, originally part of a 14th century convent that used to host wayfarers and pilgrims: this mix of culture and hospitality remains in the friendly, excentric and charming atmosphere.
The hotel is decorated with paintings made by Florentine artists who have stayed there, and special soirées, exhibitions and concerts are often organized.

Friendly, helpful, English-speaking staff. Large, comfortable, quiet suite of rooms. Great location. Breakfast okay, but you need to specially request a cappuccino or latte for a good cup of coffee.

very closed to the train station and the market. The employees are very friendly, they gave us the double room with the bathroom in stead of shared bathroom for free and recommened great restaurant zaza where we love so much!

The quality of breakfast was quite good in respect to the stamdard of a calssic italian breakfast. The coffee instead was absolutly undrinkable. Therefor everyone tried to get a cappuccino but as there was only one lady for up to 60 breakfasts (preparing the buffet, cleaning the tables, making the coffee and manual dishwashing) this was nearly impossible. One person is absolutely not enough for so many guests. A second lady who arrived every motning at 9 o'clock did nothing but drinking the cappuccino, that guests desperately desired for.

It's a nice place to stay during a quick journey in Florence. The rooms are quite good, but the real effort of Hotel Azzi is the location. It's close to the railway station and to the downtown.

Si no teneis problemas con dormir en habitaciones antiguas y sin mucho espacio, el hotel os gustara. Las zonas comunes estan reformadas y muy amplias. El desayuno un poco escaso. La zona estupenda.

everything is wonderful except for the coffee lady who actually refused to make coffee for us, telling us how busy she is! Only upon us helping her to clear up the table where we wanted to sit and telling her we can wait for the coffee, did she make us each a cup of cappucino. I don't find this customer friendly at all. What is she there for if she can actually say no to a guest?

We went with a group. Our room was very spacious, clean, and had terrific air conditioning. One room had no air conditioning, which was brutal in the heat. They didn't have a room available for three of the girls who were with us, so they put them at an adjacent hotel. This did not work out well at all, because the other hotel's room didn't lock, the caretaker there didn't care, there wasn't any air conditioning, etc. It was a very bad situation, especially since they had booked a room with Azzi. I wouldn't necessarily stay here again just because I want to make sure that everyone is getting a good, safe, cool place to stay. While our room was terrific, I just can't take a chance we might not be able to get "good, safe, and cool"

This room was very spacious however, the decor was very plain and dated. The photographs on the website did not reflect the room we were given which was rather disappointing. The breakfast was terrible - almost inedible. Breakfast aside, the balance between the cost and room was about right.

Just to warn you we did not stay at Azzi. Basically when Azzi is fully booked, management put you in one of their "sister" hotels in the same building, which IS NOT even comparable to Azzi - it was much worse. When we checked out we complained and got a decent discount because it was not what we had booked and quality of room is far worse. Otherwise, from viewing Azzi's rooms it was as the pictures online. Unfortunately we did not get the chance to experience this. Location was 5-7min walk to Train station + its nearby the street market - which was convenient! Breakfast was included, the choice was mundane but you can't expect much more with the price. Staff was helpful and for price it was overall decent if you literally just want a place to sleep!

The hotel has a very young, fresh energy. Common spaces are very nice! Room was nice though first impression (in day light) was affected by hummidity stains on the wall of the room and bathroom. Later, we loved it! The view from the window was not nice, but we just chose not to look out... Breakfast staff is not as warm as the hotel. Restaurant Nerone, 2 blocks away from the hotel, has very nice food, friendly staff and good prices.

Wish there was some hooks or somewhere to put towels in the bathroom because with no shower curtain water goes all over the floor. Also the tub in our room was a mini-tub with the bottom being round so you have to sit and take a shower, not the easiest thing to do.If you are not at breakfast at 8 exactly, don't expect to get any yogurt.

The people at Azzi were extremely helpful. They went above and beyond expectations - offering umbrellas to take with us when it rained, letting us pick our room, storing our luggage far past checkout time. I would definitely recommend Azzi - beautiful hotel, great price.
United Kingdom, Mar 2009
Hotel Azzi was a delight! Close to the station and easy to find, but in a quiet street within walking distance of Florence's main attractions. Full of character, our room was huge, as was the bathroom. My only slight niggle was the breakfast, which was barely adequate, (hard crusty rolls, and coffee not fresh enough) but for the price we were paying,it was an excellent choice. Also, the staff were exceptionally helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

Hotel Azzi is comfortable and clean. Both the price and the service are satisfying. It is also close to the central station. The only concern is that the wireless network sometimes does not work. I think I would like to choose this one if I will come to Florenze in the future.

We stayed at Hotel Azzi , in a triple room (Verde) from Dec 27, 2008 to Jan. 1, 2009. The room was large enough for 3, and very convenient to the train station, Santa Maria Novella. The bathroom was designed for wheel chair access, with no separation between the shower area and the rest of the room. One gets used to that. Breakfast was acceptable, with cold rolls and bread, sliced mortadella, cheese, cereals, milk and sometime pastries or cake, but no eggs. Via Faenza is a shopping street, so you will find grocery stores, wine stores, 1-euro stores (like dollar stores in the US), scarf stores, shoe stores etc. The staff were very helpful at arranging a hotel room for my son at the last minute. They spoke English well enough to communicate.

We stayed in a room with an attached private bath. It was great! We loved the dining area and the entry way... It was quaint and welcoming. We loved the location close to the train station-mainly because we had backpacks and I got sick on the train, so we were thrilled that it was easy to find and my husband didn't have to carry everything by himself for a long distance. We also liked the location compared to restaurants and the attractions. It was easy to walk to everything.

We were allocated the "Blue Room" which was spacious and at first appeared super, however the unusual bathroom with jacuzzi (jets didn't work)with overhead shower(no curtain)- had water pouring all over onto wooden bath surround. As mentioned on the website I'm sure this bathroom must be a health hazard as there is no ventilation at all and was always musty - I did not enjoy using it. The bedroom was spacious but noisy - the rest of the hotels toilets, bath water drained away outside our room. The staff were very helpful but I did not think there was much value for money at this hotel.

It would be very hard to criticise this hotel - in my opinion it is the hidden jewel of Florence (for the price). Only a small hotel tucked away in a narrow street near the train station (about 200 metres away) but the room we had (Blue Room) was fantastic. Very spacious with a huge ensuite with a spa (completely unexpected luxury) and really pleasant and helpful staff who all spoke good english. Breakfast was nice and included in the price. The only downside of this hotel was that the room did not have a fridge (which is quite typical for Europe) however staff allowed us to use the fridge in the breakfast buffet area which suited our needs fine. Would stay here again and recommend to others.

We loved it. It was very easy to get to from the train station and just a walk away from the centre. The hotel is very pleassant and the reception is cozy and has its own character. The room we had was huge. It was more like a studio apartment than a hotel room. It had a character as well. Nice simple breakfast. The staff was very welcoming and nice. AIr Conditioning was included in the price (unlike in Rome) and we had a hairdryer and tv. The bathroom was clean and a good size. Everything was working fine. All in all a very good experience. Great value for money. I would definitely recommend.

Hotel Azzi was easy to find, convenient to train station, close to several internet cafes, and a easy walk past marketplaces to the city center. Staff was friendly and helpful, especially when we needed a box to ship excess baggage we couldn't take on our Ryan Air flight (argh!). Cappucino was excellent, but other breakfast foods were only so-so. Room was very spacious for 1 adult and 2 children, ages 10 and 13. We enjoyed listening to guitar music coming from the neighboring hotel patio. Thumbs up.

We had a lovely room overlooking a garden but of a hostel where the occupants stayed up very late. However with windows shut and air conditioning on this was not a problem. It was wonderful having tea and coffee avaialable at all times and a nice balcony to drink it on.

We really enjoyed our stay in the "yellow room", a quad for our family of 4. At first we were a bit unsure as the room was slightly below ground level and a bit musty smelling, but opening the window fixed that. The hotel was hard to locate by car, but once we got there it was just perfect. The parking garage picked up our car from in front of the hotel and brought it back when we needed it. Very centrally located. The breakfast was fantastic with lots of choices. The front desk people were all very helpful. I had to work on my laptop and they have a wi-fi network that you can access from the lobby/breakfast area. Would definitely return!

Very convenient for the train station and mainsites in Florence. The property advertised is an Albergo and actually next door to the Hotel AZZI ! There are a number of residential establishments next door also, which makes the whole thing very confusing. The Albergo Azzi is situated on the ground and first floor (the one above ground). There is no lift, wasn't a problem. Staff were very good, as helpful as you would need. Property in a semi pedestrianised road. Good restuarant just down the road also. Main problem was the noise in the hotel. Floors uncarpeted and very strong door closing gadgets. The result was continuous door slamming from early hours and the sound of heels and luggage rolling reverberating about. Shame as the owners have made efforts to make the place interesting and the staff were great. Will not return.

This was an outstanding value in a very expensive Italian city. Would recommend without hesitation. Huge rooms. Must be a little open-minded with the bathroom setup, but we were very comfortable in these rooms. Very convenient to the train station in a quiet part of town. Great restaurants nearby. This is more like a hostel. The web totally flatters the property. Attitude at reception good until there is a problem. Faced with no breakfast at 9:30am we complained and the solution...go buy some and we will take 5 euro off your bill!!! They claim not to have a hotel manager which is probabaly true. The room smelled until the air conditioning came on. We walked into an unmanned reception one night and took our own key from an unlocked cabinet!!! Reality vs Perception is very poor!! When we queried the staff at reception regarding a safe we were told they dont have to provide one as it is 2 star hotel. We told them that 2 star hotel in Rome provided safes and were told well go and stay in Rome!!!!! Nice thing to say to tourists (NOT)!!!

The location was acurate and easily accessible from SMN train station. The check-in/check-out was quick and easy. The front desk staff was knowledgeble. This hotel has some very nice qualities -it is in a quiet area, close to all main attractions (museums, central market, Duomo).Unfortunately, the bathroom in our room("Blue"), while being very specious and recently renovated (painted in rather weird combo of bright colors), can be considered a serious health hazard. Due to complete absence of ventilation in a bathroom, all walls were covered with visible spores of mold, with stale moisture having no way to escape but into the living area. Unless this issue is addressed and ventilation is installed, this particular room must not be offered!

We were first time visitors to the Azzi. My wife, teenage daughter and I stayed in a comfortable, utilitarian room. This is a typical older property located on an alley like street so don't expect parking close by. We were on foot so it didn't matter. The staff was helpful and the room was clean. If you are used to typical small European hotels you will be fine with the Azzi. My wife and I didn't arrive at the hotel until weel into the evening. My daughter arrived at the hotel seperately much earlier in the day and the staff was kind enought to let my daughter check in on our behalf. I did email ahead to request the courtesy. The public spaces have an interesting charm and character to them as they are decorated with old pictures and furniture.

This was our first stay at Hotel Azzi and we stayed there just one night. But based on price, location, and quality of the rooms we'd gladly stay there again. The location provided easy access to the train station as well as the heart of the old city. It was also a relatively quiet location within proximity to nice restaurants and cafes. This was a plus. The hotel is in a good location in reguards to the train station, only about a 5 minute walk. This was the 3rd place my wife and I stayed while in Italy and was by far the quietest when it came time to sleep, we were there for 3 nights. Unfortunately, the bed in our room was quite small, I'd say a twin size at most, and sagged in towards the middle which we tried to correct by folding blankets and putting under the mattress. There also isn't an elevator, may be a consideration for carrying luggage up stairs, we were on the 3rd floor, which they call the 2nd, apparently the ground floor is zero, all over Italy, not just here. The breakfast was good. Florence is an easy city to walk,so as far as location to sights we thought it was fine. The staff was helpful when asked questions, but kind of standoffish? We stayed at 5 different places while in Italy and Azzi would be our lowest rating of those 5.

A curates egg. Some of the staff were friendly and helpful ( reception ) while some ( dining room and housekeeping staff ) were surly. Room was slightly down at heel with uncomfortable beds while the wash/shower room adjoining was in need of some repairs to fittings and lights. Breakfasts were quite good and reception area was pleasantly bohemian in decor, though the bar ( so called ) was inadequately stocked. Considering the price paid at the time of our stay - mid-February ( 40 euros p.n. double ) we considered that the Hotel Azzi was fair value for the money even if somewhat amateurish.

This is one of our favourite hotels during our trip around Italy. The entire hotel feels like a cosy home, from the moment you step into the reception area till you are in your room. Soft jazzy music fills the reception lounge whilst bright cheery yellow greets you every morning in the breakfast room. It is located very conveniently near the train station, but in a small lane, which is not easily located by first time travellers. Dont expect a view outside, but the view inside is great!!

There was a huge Breakfast room with a great selection of yogurts, breads, meat and cheese. We were given the "Green Room" which was huge. The only bad thing about the room is that our windows opened up to the back courtyard of a hostel. It was very noisy at night until about midnight. The room was very clean when we checked in, but they don't really clean the rooms during your stay. They didn't replace the towels and they only re-made the bed. The bathroom was also big, but we weren't expecting the lack of a shower cubicle. When you take a shower, the whole floor gets wet, but it wasn't a problem because I always bring flip flops with me when I travel. The location was great, walking distance from the train station and walking distance to restaurants.

First of all, the staffs in Azzi are very warm-hearted and helpful. Just like their beautiful city, always make you smile and feel good. Location is good, close to the railway station.it is a good option if you have limited travel budget.

I liked very much the idea that is very closed to the station and at the same time very closed to town center too. Our room was small but clean and quiet, we liked it. In general the hotel was very pretty and particular. I would raccomend it to friends.

Once we got there it was wonderful. Not easy to find. Liked the street and location. Big room with very good complimentary breakfast - good value considering the dollar vs. euro.

Reception (Carlos etc) were great. Breakfast staff very surly, and room staff too. Don't expect everyone to be friendly but this staff looked like you were an annoyance just because you were there. Showers were fantastic. Overall I would definitely stay again.

we enjoyed our stay at Azzi hotel. Staff was very welcoming and the room was big and clean. There were no noises around the room and the hotel leans in the city centre.

This must be one of the nicest hotels in the world. The staff were simply wonderful and the hotel had loads of character and charm. We could not imagine staying anywhere else if we were to go back to Florence.
