Hotel Azzi - Florence
Via Faenza 56 - Florence
877-662-6988The property is the typographer Barbera's old building, originally part of a 14th century convent that used to host wayfarers and pilgrims: this mix of culture and hospitality remains in the friendly, excentric and charming atmosphere.
The hotel is decorated with paintings made by Florentine artists who have stayed there, and special soirées, exhibitions and concerts are often organized.
Very good location. 5-10 minutes by walk to central station and 15 min by walk to Santa Maria di Fiori. Clean room. Originally we had booked the room without a bath,...

Very good location. 5-10 minutes by walk to central station and 15 min by walk to Santa Maria di Fiori. Clean room. Originally we had booked the room without a bath, but the owner was so pleasant that kindly offered us room with shower for no extra cost. Staff are polite, friendly and helpful. We loved our stay in this hotel.

Only fly in the ointment was that the hotel failed to let us know that they couldn't get tickets to the Uffizi and Accademia for us. They had said they would try, but upon follow up on our part they did not respond to the email.

What a quaint hotel with warm staff and a funny owner. Room is a little small but that's Europe for you. Very clean and conveniently located. Just remember to wake up in a timely manner or an Italian woman will knock on your door and yell at you. Overall, both owner and front desk are so helpful and wonderful. Would definitely come back and stay here again.

It is a small and nice hotel for young people. The price is really good and the location is great. You can reach the central station in 5-10 minutes by walk and all the historical buildings can be reached by walk. The hotel is surrounded by good restaurants.

This was my favourite hotel in Italy. Luckily we booked a room with a bathroom so make sure you do that as others had a shared bathroom which was just basically a cupboard in the hall. Our room was gorgeous and had opening doors onto a small courtyard. The staff were always friendly and helpful and the hotel itself is quite lovely. The breakfasts were good. There is no lift but that wasn't a problem for us as we travel light and the room we had was only one floor up. The hotel location is very close to the train station and definitely within walking distance. We loved our stay in this hotel.

We booked a quadriple room and found ourselves in a very nice apartment with eat in kitchen and balcony ! The apartment was newly renovated, clean and comfortable. Location was great since it is only 5-10 minutes walk to San Lorenzo and Santa Maria di Fiori. However, there is no lift and Wi-fi was available only in the reception area and it kept breaking off.

Hotel Azzi has a good location and is surprisingly nice for the price. Its common areas are plentiful and nicely decorated, and the wifi is free! Our private-but-separate bathroom was a tiny toilet/shower combo - it was impossible to shower without getting the rest of the room wet, and had no hooks for keeping towels & clothes dry. Our room had aircon, but it was too noisy to leave on at night. The staff were competent but a bit too cool.

The room was clean and spacious. The breakfast typical of the hotels we stayed in. The folks at the front desk were not very friendly. Their internet connection was apparently down for most of our 4 days. Hotel location was very good, near the train station and within 10 min. of the Duomo. The toilet was difficult to flush.

This was our first trip to Florence and I honestly don't think we could have picked a better hotel for the price than the Azzi. The staff were all very attentive and pleasant and were always willing and able to help with any requests if asked, including a late request for a bouquet of flowers for my wife as I had almost forgotten it was our 25 wedding anniversary. The Azzi is located in a great spot. Just 50 yards or so on quieter side of the Via Natzionale. This meant that all the favourite tourist hotspots were within a few minutes walk along with the various bars and resturants. The Azzi is what you might call a boutique hotel, small and arty. Lovely old fashioned interior tastefully decorated with a various mixture of furniture and fittings. Being an old building and one that was not originally built as a hotel there are some compromises regarding space but I think that generally added to it's charm. I have seen many comments on the breakfast buffet and I have to agree with most reviewers. It was plentiful without being exessive. We would have liked to see or had the oppertunity to order an egg or two but that wouuld be knitpicking. We were very pleasantly suprised with the Tea. A well known British brand's breakfast tea that really hit the spot. Well done to the owner and his team it was a lovely stay.

The hotel was easy to find, the staff were excellent! I needed to go into the hospital and they called a taxi for me, and made sure I was ok on my return to the hotel. The room was huge, very rustic with lots of antiques. The bed was comfortable. The gentleman that checked us in was so pleasant, very helpful, he put us in a very nice room with a full bathtub, for no extra cost. The wifi is in the lobby. I felt like we had our own apartment. If I was well I would have enjoyed it more. I will stay here again anytime! Great location a short walk from the train station! Thanks for all your help, the Tanski's appreciate it.

We stayed in Hotel Azzi two nights. Our room was very large, cleaned and beatiful. The quality of the breakfast was excellent, the staff was competent and very kindly, the enviroment was really nice. The hotel is very closed at the main train station and you can reac the earth of Florence (Square San Lorenzo, the bridge Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi's museum, ..) walking in ten minutes. I would recommend you to follow the staff's suggestions about the restaurants near to the hotel where you can enjoy a good dinner at the right price.

The Azzi hotel was a great experience. It was very close to the rail station and the hotel staff was very helpful. But, their directions are terrible and the map is not readable and they don't have a very prominate sign outside. So, here is what you do. Come out of train station, look for church, turn to the left, keep going around left side of train station. In front of you is now bike parking area and bus entrance. Cross street, if you are in the middle of the block, go left to the end of the block and turn right. Turn right at second street. Azzi is on the left. Azzi is quaint, decore is pleasant, the room was quite large, the entire bathroom was a shower. We were in the 'Green' room, it is handicap accessible. They need to provide a coffee maker in the room. Florence is great and Azzi is within easy walking distance of everything. They wife took a cooking class and had a great time. The art is as good as advertized. Make sure you go see the Duomo at night. We felt very safe walking around at night. There were several excellent restaurantes within 5 minuts walk.

Hotel Azzi is extremely close to the Florence train station. it was only a 5 minute walk- and down the street are a whole bunch of restaurants and mini marts- very convenient for last minute snacks. The room was quite small and we had to walk down the corridor for the bathroom. It is very close to all the attractions// museums in Florence.

This was a lovely hotel. The rooms were very small and the restroom was down the hall, but everything was VERY clean AND it was airconditioned- a much desired characteristic when travelling in the summer in Italy. The rooms were furnished with antique furniture, which was quite charming. The hotel was located very close to the train station, but in a lovely student area. The hotel was a bargain compared to everyhwere else. I would definitely return.

Really nice hotel - our room was really clean and fresh linen and towels are provided each morning. The staff were really friendly and professional (and english-speaking). The location is fabulous, within 15 minutes walking distance are most of Florence's tourist attractions (Capelee Medicae, Duomo, Galleria, Uffizzi, Pallazo Vecchio, Ponte Vecchio...). It can get a bit noisy at night, but if you're not a very light sleeper, you'll be ok. Would definitely visit again & recommend.

The hotel is very pleasant, the room and also the breakfast area. The lobby is also a nice place to stay, if you want to read or wait for somebody. The staff is very friendly, you can also consume your own food in the breakfast room. The street is full of small hotels. For the count of the house numbers, there are two series of numbers, the lower one is the right one. If you come from the train station and hit the street (I forgot the name), turn left. The hotel is 500 m walk to the duomo, and you pass near to the central market, where you can buy all delicacies of the Italian cusine.

The hotel is very well situated, 5 minutes walk to the doume, 3 minutes to the railway station. Many small restuarants in the neighbourhood with good food, wine and prices. The hotel employees are very friendly and helpfull. The hotel is of simple standard, and have taken care of the athmosphere from the old apartment it once was with old furniture and details. Good beds. The bathroom was relatively newly restaured. A bit of painting in the rooms would do. For people who prefers local athmosphere and kindness before high standard and luxury, this is a good place to stay for some days, your can walk to all places you want to visit in Firenze.

To avoid absolutely! The hotel is just close to a destroyed closed down building, what an horrible view! The price is good on the net but the room we were given was decrepit and damp (the wall bathroom was dark with musty!!), so we asked to change and it was a very basic room but ok. None of the employees were welcoming at all , the buffet for breakfast was very bad (such a bad coffee for Italy....Basically, they don't care about clients.

Really nice room for the price, maybe because of the season, cool building, great for those who are arriving by train as it is a short walk from the station. The hotel upstairs seems to be more of a budget/hostel and hosted a throng of German kids who were trashing the place the first night I was there. The managment quickly put an end to it though.

Very pleasant staff, good breakfast and excellent location: right next to the market and a short walk to all the attractions. Parking is available very close to the hotel, which is very convenient. The rooms are very spacious and clean. This is an older building, so there is no elevator (only two floors, though). Bathroom was a bit peculiar: there was no standing shower and the bathtub is shaped like a chair and nowhere to attache the shower handle, so showering is a group activity - one has to hold the shower head while the other one is showering. Interesting...

This hotel is for art-lover people who have a nostalgia for 18th and 19th century decoration but with modern facilities and modern touches. The room we stayed in was filled with light and very comfortable, which is not always the case in Italian hotels. I dare say it was quite romantic. :)

It was a good hotel, the public areas were really nice and the room was nie too. I dind't like too much the furniture, it's ok it's old but not because of that it has to be bad mantained. Even that service was good. They didn't clean too much during breakfast, when you eat they didn't pick up staff for next clients and then it was no room to sit. But breakfast was complete and good. They have no internet in rooms, just in the public areas. It's really well located, near the station and near the historical center. I was in a room without bathroom. The bathroom was clean but it didn't have curtains so when you took a bath it get all wet! And there were some things that were broken, they should repair that. I liked the hotel and it has a good price, I should go back.

The room had a sewage smell that, fortunately, went away after about a day and a half. It appeared to be in refurbished building, which may explain that. The building itself was pretty nice. The pillows on the bed were very flat and uncomfortable. They said all rooms had hairdryers, but ours did not. The shower was small and kind of annoying. The breakfast was pretty decent. Our double room was quite large and had a king and a twin bed. The staff was very helpful; they booked reservations at the Uffizi for us. The location was convenient to everything.

More than 4-star hotel! A very generous hotel gave us a great room upgrate from standard to luxury! Large space with an addition equipment of a dressing room, a massaging bath, and plenty of heaters. Many kinds of choices were served as a buffet for breakfast. Also with a very touching welcoming, a lounge bar is just there for every tourist. I really love it! We were in Italy for 15 days for honey moon and stayed 3 days in Firenze. We didn't expect 2-star hotel too much, but "AZZI HOTEL" is really more its grade and is the best hotel of 6 hotels during this journey in Venezia, Milano, Firenze, Roma. Very recommend!

The quality of breakfast was quite good in respect to the stamdard of a calssic italian breakfast. The coffee instead was absolutly undrinkable. Therefor everyone tried to get a cappuccino but as there was only one lady for up to 60 breakfasts (preparing the buffet, cleaning the tables, making the coffee and manual dishwashing) this was nearly impossible. One person is absolutely not enough for so many guests. A second lady who arrived every motning at 9 o'clock did nothing but drinking the cappuccino, that guests desperately desired for.

Only upon us helping her to clear up the table where we wanted to sit and telling her we can wait for the coffee, did she make us each a cup of cappucino. I don't find this customer friendly at all. We went with a group. Our room was very spacious, clean, and had terrific air conditioning. One room had no air conditioning, which was brutal in the heat. They didn't have a room available for three of the girls who were with us, so they put them at an adjacent hotel. This did not work out well at all, because the other hotel's room didn't lock, the caretaker there didn't care, there wasn't any air conditioning, etc. It was a very bad situation, especially since they had booked a room with Azzi. I wouldn't necessarily stay here again just because I want to make sure that everyone is getting a good, safe, cool place to stay. While our room was terrific, I just can't take a chance we might not be able to get "good, safe, and cool"

Just to warn you we did not stay at Azzi. Basically when Azzi is fully booked, management put you in one of their "sister" hotels in the same building, which IS NOT even comparable to Azzi - it was much worse. When we checked out we complained and got a decent discount because it was not what we had booked and quality of room is far worse. Otherwise, from viewing Azzi's rooms it was as the pictures online. Unfortunately we did not get the chance to experience this. Location was 5-7min walk to Train station + its nearby the street market - which was convenient! Breakfast was included, the choice was mundane but you can't expect much more with the price. Staff was helpful and for price it was overall decent if you literally just want a place to sleep!

The hotel has a very young, fresh energy. Common spaces are very nice! Room was nice though first impression (in day light) was affected by hummidity stains on the wall of the room and bathroom. Later, we loved it! The view from the window was not nice, but we just chose not to look out... Breakfast staff is not as warm as the hotel. Wish there was some hooks or somewhere to put towels in the bathroom because with no shower curtain water goes all over the floor. Also the tub in our room was a mini-tub with the bottom being round so you have to sit and take a shower, not the easiest thing to do.If you are not at breakfast at 8 exactly, don't expect to get any yogurt.

Hotel Azzi was a delight! Close to the station and easy to find, but in a quiet street within walking distance of Florence's main attractions. Full of character, our room was huge, as was the bathroom. My only slight niggle was the breakfast, which was barely adequate, (hard crusty rolls, and coffee not fresh enough) but for the price we were paying,it was an excellent choice. Also, the staff were exceptionally helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

Actually it was a shock for us when we entered the room, because a disgusting smell welcomed us. Windows could not be closed properly, and tha bathroom was not so clean So we do not suggest this hotel to anyone who is planning to stay in Florence.

Hotel Azzi is comfortable and clean. Both the price and the service are satisfying. It is also close to the central station. The only concern is that the wireless network sometimes does not work. I think I would like to choose this one if I will come to Florenze in the future.

We stayed at Hotel Azzi , in a triple room (Verde) from Dec 27, 2008 to Jan. 1, 2009. The room was large enough for 3, and very convenient to the train station, Santa Maria Novella. The bathroom was designed for wheel chair access, with no separation between the shower area and the rest of the room. One gets used to that. Breakfast was acceptable, with cold rolls and bread, sliced mortadella, cheese, cereals, milk and sometime pastries or cake, but no eggs. Via Faenza is a shopping street, so you will find grocery stores, wine stores, 1-euro stores (like dollar stores in the US), scarf stores, shoe stores etc. The staff were very helpful at arranging a hotel room for my son at the last minute. They spoke English well enough to communicate.

Great hotel value! Super close to train station, without actually being so close it's a liability. Carlos (employee) was especially helpful and had fantastic restaurant recommendations!

The hotel is very charming. We recommend you to take a room not directly near the street. Althought it is a pedestrian street, people kept on shouting all through the night, which was very unpleasant.

We stayed in a room with an attached private bath. It was great! We loved the dining area and the entry way... It was quaint and welcoming. We loved the location close to the train station-mainly because we had backpacks and I got sick on the train, so we were thrilled that it was easy to find and my husband didn't have to carry everything by himself for a long distance. We also liked the location compared to restaurants and the attractions. It was easy to walk to everything.

Hotel is very old. Bathrooms are remodeled probably about 5-10 years ago. Furniture is very old. In some rooms it is look likes taken from the garage sale. Brakfest is good enough. Location of the hotel is exelent, close to the train station and to turist sites.

We were allocated the "Blue Room" which was spacious and at first appeared super, however the unusual bathroom with jacuzzi (jets didn't work)with overhead shower(no curtain)- had water pouring all over onto wooden bath surround. As mentioned on the website I'm sure this bathroom must be a health hazard as there is no ventilation at all and was always musty - I did not enjoy using it. The bedroom was spacious but noisy - the rest of the hotels toilets, bath water drained away outside our room. The staff were very helpful but I did not think there was much value for money at this hotel.

The room was very quiet. Breakfast is good. The employees are helpful and friendly. There is no elevator but we were on the first floor. The rooms are really big.

It would be very hard to criticise this hotel - in my opinion it is the hidden jewel of Florence (for the price). Only a small hotel tucked away in a narrow street near the train station (about 200 metres away) but the room we had (Blue Room) was fantastic. Very spacious with a huge ensuite with a spa (completely unexpected luxury) and really pleasant and helpful staff who all spoke good english. Breakfast was nice and included in the price. The only downside of this hotel was that the room did not have a fridge (which is quite typical for Europe) however staff allowed us to use the fridge in the breakfast buffet area which suited our needs fine. Would stay here again and recommend to others.

We loved it. It was very easy to get to from the train station and just a walk away from the centre. The hotel is very pleassant and the reception is cozy and has its own character. The room we had was huge. It was more like a studio apartment than a hotel room. It had a character as well. Nice simple breakfast. The staff was very welcoming and nice. AIr Conditioning was included in the price (unlike in Rome) and we had a hairdryer and tv. The bathroom was clean and a good size. Everything was working fine. All in all a very good experience. Great value for money. I would definitely recommend.

A large room, clean but not very light (window on a covered yard). Nice breakfeast and staff. Close to the station. Small price. Convenient and reasonable quality over price.

A few hundred meters from the train station and the Duomo. About 50 euros voor a double room including breakfast. No airco though (and it is hot in Florence in August). Nice breakfast room. Shower/toilet in room. Great value for money!

Hotel Azzi was easy to find, convenient to train station, close to several internet cafes, and a easy walk past marketplaces to the city center. Staff was friendly and helpful, especially when we needed a box to ship excess baggage we couldn't take on our Ryan Air flight (argh!). Cappucino was excellent, but other breakfast foods were only so-so. Room was very spacious for 1 adult and 2 children, ages 10 and 13. We enjoyed listening to guitar music coming from the neighboring hotel patio. Thumbs up.

I won't recommend this hotel/hostel. It is kind of clean but the neighborhood is not good. The air conditioning is extremely noisy and the washroom very small and very difficult to set up the shower temperature. Maybe that's all you can get for the price.

We had a lovely room overlooking a garden but of a hostel where the occupants stayed up very late. However with windows shut and air conditioning on this was not a problem. We had the most wonderful huge fluffy towels, better than any other hotel we have stayed in, and the bed linen was lovely and crisp. It was wonderful having tea and coffee avaialable at all times and a nice balcony to drink it on.
