Ambasciatori good hotel, few tweaks needed. Location across road from Florence train station and in front of Bus stations enables hotel to be excellent base for further trips to San Gimignano, Siena,Fiesole, Lucca and many others. We highly recommend this hotel for that. Staff very obliging and all hard working, especially staff on Breakfast room duties. A huge area with excellent supply and variety of food and outstanding attention to clearing tables, topping up food etc., They showed the patience of Saints dealing with tour groups during our stay. It was feeding time at the zoo but Ambasciatori staff were exemplary in their behavior often coping with very odd behavior from guests. Cleanliness of whole hotel and room excellent. Bedroom and bathroom spacious loved having a balcony, thankfully. Decor modern and efficient. Room had bar frig. Hotel had 2 lifts, all good. Minimalism of decor in Reception area ridiculous. Hotel turned air conditioning off for winter. In October, not cold, not winter. Had to leave balcony door open whenever in room and to cool room to enable sleep at night. Possibly not safe to do this in the Ferroveria area but hot as hell in room. I thought we would have to leave hotel because of this. Noticed other guests left balcony doors open too. Fortunately we were not robbed or worse. Noisy but at least we slept.

Ok, but not excellent. I had to ask to get a supply of mineral water and a tea and coffee maker, which it had been stated were to be provided in the room yet were not there. Air con effective but incredibly noisy and the carpets and wallpaper were very worn though clean. Staff nice and helpful. The hotel is very convenient for the airport, trains and buses and extremely quiet considering central location. So, considering price tag, only an OK overall and certainly not the best hotel we stayed at in Italy, though the most expensive room rate.

Upon registering, we were told that there had been a mix up in our reservations and the double room we had booked was not available and "if we wanted to stay in this hotel" we would have to take two single rooms for the night then would be put into a double room the next day. Apparently, if we had not taken the two singles,we would have been put into one of the other B&H hotels, although that wasn't stated and we were left with the feeling that we had to take the two singles or look for another place to stay. We took the two singles, which were very nice, extremely clean and quiet. The next day, we were told there was no space at that hotel, but were shown another room, next door, that I think was actually an upgrade, although that wasn't stated. The room was comfortable and again, extremely clean. It was however, very noisey and unbearably hot. When we called the front desk, the staff was VERY rude, we were abruptly told that the air conditioning had been turned off for the season and we should try opening the window. When we asked if there was a fan available the answer was a rude "no" and a hang up. The heat and noise were the only complaints of the room. The staff, regardless of which shift was on, we found to have no customer service skills and some of the rudest people we've found anywhere. The breakfast, while not awful, wasn't as described. The hotel is in a good location for sightseeing and other than hotel staff, we had a wonderful week in Florence.

We were upgraded to the Waldorf Suites section around the corner for the same price. This was all newly renovated and very modern. The balcony ran off both the bedroom and the bath. The train station is directly across the street and couldn't have been more convenient. Given that it's on a very busy street, it wasn't particularly noisy.

Very near from Santa Maria Novella station, which makes it perfect if you have to travel to/from Firenze. The building exterior is horrible but the new rooms are worth the money you are paying. The hall where you have the breakfast should be improved as it is noisy and the doing up is poor. Overall, I had a nice stay and had no problems at all

I have stayed at Ambasciatori three times now. It offers very good value for money in the winter months, and is excellently situated for the railway station and central Florence. We had to arrive a day early at short notice, and the staff were very helpful and accomodating. The rooms are spacious and the breakfast is generous. Recommended highly by me.

We booked this room last minute because of a flight cancelation - and decided to stay at a "nicer" place because we were exhausted and just wanted to relax and watch tv in the ac and take a bath and so on...upon arriving there, the staff at check-in was rude and didn't seem to care about us being there and our lack of italian seemed to irrate him further - they couldn't find our reservation but then finally put us in a room. it seemed nice at first - but then, and here's the clincher, with it being like 90 degrees outside the AC just did not work - we also had a tiny shower instead of the bathtub the room description said we would have - to make matters worse, after complaining about the AC, we found out that there were multiple other rooms that had the same problem. so in the end, we had to sleep with the window open, which normally wouldn't have been a big deal, except that the hotel is right across from the train station and on a busy road - all in all, it was a stressful and not relaxing extra night in florence - the only highlight was the breakfast in the morning

March 2007 This was our first visit to Florence and we arrived from Pisa airport on the Terravision shuttle coach (bargain 8 Euro each). The hotel is opposite the coach stop outside the railway station (very ugly station building). The local buses all stop outside the hotel and the intercity bus depot is behind the hotel. Sounds rather ominous so far noisewise. I have to say though that I am really pleased we booked this hotel from recommendations on this site, as we had a wonderful stay in an upgraded junior suite at the back of the building with hardly any noise. It would have been different at a hotter time of year with windows open and a balcony overlooking the bus depot five floors below. The view over the rooftops to the hills beyond is nice but the early morning bus depot tannoys would be annoying. The staff were excellent, as were the breakfasts and snacks provided free late in the afternoon with reasonable priced drinks. Booking tickets for the major attractions though the front desk staff was easy. The local buses being just outside was a boon, cheap and frequent. A good tip I found on the net was to use the route 13 bus as a hop on hop off bus instead of the expensive sightseeing bus. As it is a circular route all you need is a day ticket and you can get on and off at all the sites and still use other buses on the same ticket. Another good trip is route 7 to Fiesole, a lovely village in the hills. It appears that a major part of life in Florence is food, food and more food. So much choice, so little time. We must go on a diet. Florence has some amazing sites, fantastic art (David WOW!) and very friendly people. We had a really good time and would love to go back and we would stay in the Ambasciatori again, depending on time of year. Within 50 metres from the hotel we boarded our train to Pisa Central (another bargain at 5 Euro 20 each). Despite the close proximity, all the time we were at the hotel we never heard a train.

Nice place but it's seriously understaffed. We couldn't check in on time as the rooms weren't ready. This was the experience of many other customers while we were there. Even when we were given our room, it hadn't been made up at all and the reception desk just told us to leave our things and go out(!) even though my partner was not well. Finally, we had to tip one of the cleaners to clean the room so that we could use it. The breakfast buffet also had almost no staff on hand, so it was difficult to get drinks and food items which needed replacing. Aside from this, the rooms were good and the hotel is ideally positioned.

This was my second time staying at the Ambasciatori and I was highly pleased with the rooms and service I received. The room was very clean and spacious, and the staff were very helpful. The only catch is the area around the hotel: it's across the road from the train station (great!), but the area is a little rundown in comparison to other areas of Florence. But saying that, Florence is very easy to walk around - and we had no trouble going places from the hotel. The breakfast was very good and with a very good selection. I would highly recommend this hotel.

I have used this hotel before, would readily do so again, and have no complaints at all about the hotel or the service. Value for money is excellent in winter, but the price rises steeply later in the season. Location is ideal, right next to the station, and a short walk from most sights. The rooms are very spacious.

I have stayed at this hotel before and have always found it very good value, however this time the only problem was we had a triple room and I felt the room should have been a double or single and was to cramped for a triple. Everything else was of a very good standard and service

GREAT!!! We paid 80 euros for a double room and would have never expected getting a 4-stars hotel, nice room, lovely spacious bathroom, private balcony, quietness and really kind stuff which eventually also provided us with indication, reservation and a bit of special treatment at a very good restaurant right in centre town. Easy to reach, sure to come back!! I'll surely never look around for another hotel next time I'll be in Florence!!

Italy is expensive - but this was the best deal as far as hotels - that I encountered. 1 double and 1 triple for 179 euros a night. It is a 20 second walk to the train station. Great if you want or need that convenience. I dropped my bags at the hotel and then took a day trip to Pisa and came back. They have a luggage room. Good breakfast from 7AM - 4 juices, coffee, tea, canned pears, canned peaches, salami, ham, cheese, bread, cereal, wienners, pastries. 4 star hotel at 3 star price - I would definitely stay here again. I would either walk or catch a taxi in this city. There is no subway and the bus system doesn't go where tourists want to go. - You need to make a timed entry for Uffizi and Accademia - don't need one for Borghese. Go to FlorenceArt for pre-paid timed entry. Spend 1 hour or less at Accademia - just to see David. Spend 2-3 hours at Uffizi. Pitti Palace and Boboli gardens - could take it or leave it.

A previous review had warned me about noisy heating so I was prepared - below my room at the back of the hotel was an enormous noisy thing running all the time, I presume to do with air conditioning - plus there's a bus station out back. But with the windows shut it wasn't a major issue. Room small but beautifully decorated. Breakfast was included. The location was brilliant for me, ariving and departing by train as I was, you simply can't miss the hotel and you don't have to lug your luggage any distance at all, plus it's so convenient for all the sights, not to mention the bus station if you're doing trips out of town eg Fiesole. And the breakfast room is very pleasant and sunny. There were lots of families there too.

Extremely convenient to the train station; you walk out of the station and it stares at you from across the street. A great relief when you're dragging several pieces of luggage (no need to spend money for taxi). We were able to store our luggage, but I was a bit concerned with its security (but nothing happened). Great central location; within walking distance to everything. Transportation for out of town excursions is right there! Beautiful room! Well appointed and clean. TV with many foreign channels. Expesnive in-lobby internet access but you can't print anything. Expensive, but the breakfast was plentiful, and considering the street prices for breakfast for 2 people, the hotel breakfast compensates well for the overall price. Most highly recommended!

This was the second time I stayed in this hotel. Location is optimal (main railway station, city center) and quality vs. price is about correct. Otherwise flawless stay, but one thing annoyed me a lot. I ordered breakfast to my room, but it never arrived. Nobody ever collected the order from the doorknob, as they should have. I didn't raise hell, although I complained about it to the quy in reception when leaving. He was polite and nice fellow, so I just mentioned it. But if the hotel means to take the business seriously, things like that should not happen.

Situated opposite the train station the immediate view is not pretty, but in the middle distance a typical Tuscan vista of treed hills, pencil pines and old houses.
