If you want a hotel in downtown Florence, near the Uffizi Gallery and Ponte Vecchio, then look no further than Hotel Alessandra. Without doubt, Hotel Alessandra is one of the most centrally located hotels in Florence. Housed in a 1507 bulding, once home to local nobility, offers a friendly atmosphere, just a few steps away from the beautiful Piazza Signoria, with the replica statue of David by Michelangelo.
The hotel is halfway between Via dei Tornabuoni, a street lined with designer shops and boutiques, and Ponte Vecchio, a bridge filled with incredible gold shops; both are less than 50 meters away. The Uffizi, arguably one of the finest art galleries in the world, the famous Duomo and Bell Tower, Piazza Repubblica, and the Baptistery are all within a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel.
Hotel Alessandra offers modern amenities, including wireless Internet connection throughout the hotel, and an Internet Point is at guests' disposal in the lobby.

Upon our arrival we were shown to a much larger room with a wonderful view of the bell tower next door. The staff were gracious and gave us great recommendations for a small trattoria for a late lunch.

We had a great time in Florence and hotel Alessandra. The staff there were very friendly and very helpful; thank you Monti! We were there on our honeymoon and were given a bottle of complimentary champagne to celebrate, which was very thoughtful. We had a room that opened up onto the river. The rooms a very big and spacious, the only drawback being the private bathroom is just down the hallway which didn't bother us at all. Located only 7mins walk from train station, and in a great spot to explore the many sights of Firenze! Defiantly come back to stay

This was my first trip to Florence. The Hotel Alessandra was perfect! The location was just a short walk to Piazza Signori and the Uffizi Gallery. The room was nice and clean. The morning breakfast was excellent. The staff was helpful and courteous with reservations and dinner suggestions. When I return to Florence, I will stay here at Hotel Alesandra.

We were travelling with two children and rather than squash us into one room they gave us two rooms next to each other for a little extra cost. Service was excellent. Carried bags down to lift for an older couple. Called taxis for us and came down and waited to ensure we got the correct taxi and the correct destination. Excellent service.

The only comment I have about this hotel is the number of steps up before there is an elevator,

Our room was large and clean, but the wallpaper was stained and peeling. The bedspread was very old and tacky. It is not very well marked from the alley, and is dark. Once you go in the door, there are no signs as to which way to go. You have to go up 2 huge flights of stairs before you can even find their front door. The lift is so small, you can barely fit 2 people in it. With no luggage. It wasn't working the morning we checked out, so we had to carry our stuff manually down all those flights. The staff was all very good. The halls and eating areas and decorations were all pretty and well maintained. I wouldn't tell someone NOT to stay there, but it was a little disappointing in its decor, as I mentioned.

while promoted as a 3 star this hotel is a one-star hotel in a good location. You drag your luggage up multiple flights of stairs and the rooms are small, drab and noisy with poor quality linens. Would not stay here again.

My first time at this hotel, not my first time in Florence. PLUS: Andrea, Pietro & Cristiano were superbly helpful; Andrea helped us make reservations at all our desired museums beforehand, which is necessary at the Uffizi, not so necessary at the Academy. Monti worked reception in the evenings and super friendly & welcoming each night. Location of this hotel is superb -- steps away from practially everything except the Academy. Breakfast was extensive and served in a bright, sunny room. The many comments I have read here and there about the sour-faced breakfast lady was totally on the mark, though you could melt her iciness with persistent sweetness and attempts at Italian niceties. She *will* bring you a cappucino, if you as (nicely!). CONS: The lady at front desk was neither able to be helpful nor all that friendly, but she is only there some of the time. We could not sleep due to the parties that went on outside until 2am most nights -- not the hotel's fault, but I would not recommend room 20 to anyone for that reason. It sounded like a dozen people were shouting in the room while we tried to sleep. Also, the prior occupants of our room had smoked in it and the strong stink of cigarettes was still very evident when we checked out 3 days later, despite open windows and some terrible spray the hotel used in the room. We all got either mosquito bites (maybe from having to open the windows) or bed bug bites while here -- all of us received little red welts during our stay.

This is an excellent hotal for its location, value, and service. you can reach almost all the points of interest within 15 minutes of walk. The river is 60 yards away. It also site on a quite street so you are not bothered by the bar noise late at night. We have a quard room with a nice size bathroom high ceiling. The staff speak excellent English and are very helpful in all aspects of concern to tourists. We will definetely return in the future.

This was such a wonderful find! A delightful, small hotel tucked away but very centrally located, we had a lovely, spacious and very quiet room. The managers at the desk were all warm, friendly and made us feel like we were coming home every day after our excursions. Truly delightful in every way and it felt like a lucky find. Very good value. There is a small walk up to get to the lobby.

All front desk personnel very helpful, courteous and available, this is of primary importance in my willingness to recommend this hotel to others. We (sister and I) found the Hotel very charming, the breakfast offerings and dining room pleasant and were very happy with the location and proximity to areas in town we enjoyed. Would stay here again and while this was the only place we stayed in Florence, find nothing to dissuade others from staying here.

Hotel & location were great. Only drawback was that it was a little noisy at times from the street and within the hotel. Nonetheless, would return if visiting Florence again.

This was one of the most pleasant hotels I experienced in Europe because of the people. The woman at the front desk was so very nice upon my arrival, and Andreas was very helpful and professional. I am from the US, but living in Switzerland for a work assignment. Andreas took the time to remind me to change my clock since I had a flight in the morning of the time change, made sure that there was breakfast waiting at 7 am in time for the taxi, which he graciously ordered for me, and was patient with directions and suggestions, and how to get back in the building. The room was comforable, clean, with a great shower & bathroom. 10s all around- for the price!! However,I did not fully realize what good people these were until I returned hoome to notice I lost my gold earring. They found it in the elevator & returned it to me!!!!!That is classy.

Location was a bit further than I thought from train so hauling luggage thru busy streets a bit more difficult. However, location was terrific- 2 blocks from Uffizi, around corner from Ponte Vecchio. And staff was outstanding...friendly and helpful. I'd do it again.

First time visitors to Alessandra. Have to carry cases up to the elevator, two levels, then it's fine. Street is tiny, and the horse-drawn carriages go by - a lovely clopping sound. Close to Ponte Vecchio, but no noise from there. In fact quiet (we had a street-side room). Everything was very clean and worked, the room was spacious. Breakfast adequate. Very nice and helpful staff. A good value all around - we would go again.

This has to be one of the best little secrets in Florence. We have already recommened other travellers to stay there. The staff are wonderful and very very friendly and helpful the rooms are large and even though we shared a bathroom there was never a problem with it as there are two to use and several of the rooms have their own facilities. Location is perfect with two excellent eateries very close by. The breakfast was also excellent...more than you could possibly eat and plenty of choise. We would recommend with no hesitation! Florence is a great city. Leaves Venice for dead!! So spend your days here 3 to 4 ideal.

Spent 4 nights at the Alessandra. We had Room 11 with a view of the Arno and a bell tower. Room was huge and furnished in accord with the age of the building. This hotel is not for the less abled-bodied - you have to carry suitcases up a full flight of stairs until you reach the lift. The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel is very central. An excellent stay.

My family of four visited Florence and stayed at the Hotel Alessandra July 12th thru July 18th. We loved the staff and the location! We had wonderful service from Andrea, Monti, and Anna! We were close to every aspect of the Historic center of Florence. We enjoyed the tour that the Hotel set up for us on Monday to the smaller Siena and other hill cities and a wine tour. We enjoyed the special extra care that the staff shows in small and big ways. Good advice and helping with ideas and information for good touring and getting the best possible recommendations to suit your group and interests. We needed some medical help and Monti was right there to assist us in every way. We enjoyed the Breakfast room and the relaxed breakfast time. This was our first time to Italy and the hotel but we will be back!

This is a very nice place to stay, but has issues in terms of access to reception (two stories up on an extremely tiny elevator or stairs - very tough with baggage in the summer heat). Once on the floor, the hotel is very pleasant and aesthetically pleasing. Decent breakfast. We had a very nice, large room. The hotel staff are exceptionally nice and helpful. Parking is a problem - costs about 26 Euro per day at an off-site garage.

The staff were wonderfully welcoming. I arrived early after taking the night train from Paris and they encouraged me to have breakfast while they finished getting my room ready. I was in my room by 9:30 am! The location is fabulous, just a block from the Uffizi, on a most picturesque street. Perfect for anyone staying in Florence.

The hotel's location is perfect for exploring Florence on foot, close to excellent restaurants, the historic sites, and shopping. Our triple room was comfortable, with a surprisingly large bathroom, and the shuttered windows opened onto a picturesque, if tiny, square. The staff was most accomodating and pleasant, and spoke excellent English. The building, dating from the 1500's (?) is literally attached to the oldest church in Florence, and the location, especially at night, walking down the dark quiet street, gives a sense of how little this piece of Florence may have changed over the last several hundred years or so... We would not hesitate to return to this hotel, and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an authentic atmosphere rather than luxury. A very good value, if carrying your luggage up 2 flights is not an obstacle!

I was upgraded (private bathroom instead of shared bathroom). The facilities are much better than one would expect for 2 stars. The location is very convenient in the old town. In the night there is noise from pedestrians (some of them drunken tourists) if you open the window but it is very quiet with closed windows. Very clean refurbished facilities in historic building. Much better than a cubicle in one of the 3-4 star hotel chains outside of the old town.

USA, Feb 2008
The hotel is very centrally located. Major attractions such as Il Duomo are within a 10 minute walk. However, the hotel's recommended parking garage ("Europa") is a 20 minute walk away! Also, the hotel entry is strange -- the entrance is obscure with only a small placard, and it has a tiny button you press to unlock the door. Then, you must climb 2 flights of stairs to reach the elevator. The reception is on the 3rd or 4th floor. Your room may be up at least one more flight of stairs. This would not be a good hotel for someone that has a hard time with walking up steps. It does has in-room Internet access for about 4€ per hour, and the hotel staff speaks English well.

Location was absolutly the best. The hotel is only a block from the Ponte Vecchio and a two minute walk to Piazza della Signoria a few more minutes to the Duomo. It is close to everything but being down a side street it is not close to the noise of the city. Other guests did mention the flight of steps you need to climb to get to the smallest elevator, I have ever seen, that brings you to the reception area, I can see where this might not be for everyone. Thankfully, at 61 years old I had no problems climbing the stairs and looked upon the elevator as an adventure each time I went up.

This hotel was horrific. We stayed for 2 nights. The first night, we had purchased a premium room and found we had a huge, time-worn room that was directly across from a bell tower that rang every half hour from 9am to 9pm! When we requested a room change, the concierge treated us like we were ridiculously picky. We had to stay in that room the first night, where we were also attacked by mosquitos. With no AC, the room required an open window and it was swarming with bugs. The second night, in our new room, which was still time-worn, they provided us with a small, electronic, "bug repeller" that actually attracted the bugs to it and we had to smash them manually. It was disgusting in every way. The cramped stairway and the lack of help to get luggage up and down was ridiculous. I travel in Europe frequently and am used to small hotels there and don't expect US service levels. This hotel would not meet Mexican standards! They tried to make us pay for the full four nights until I showed them all the welts from mosquitoes and refused to pay. This hotel should be dropped from your offerings.

This is a very cute hotel with nice original features in a good location that is easy to find. But if you have heavy bags look for the lift after the first flight of stairs. Hotel on 3rd floor. I told them I was coming late morning, but my room wasn't ready. They did have a room with bath available which I took and was worth the extra cost.

The shared bathroom should be your priority in terms of cleanliness, infrastructure and cosmetics provided. Seems to be quite a room for improvement. All the rest was OK, however the reception on the second floor was not a nice surprise for me.

Amazing location right near all the sights. HUGE room and sharing a bathroom was never a problem. Dont even think any other guests were using them.
USA, Aug 2007
We've been to Florence on several occasions, and this is the best hotel we've stayed in once price is taken into consideration. The hotel and the rooms had a lot of character, the staff was wonderful and the location could not have been better. When we first arrived, I couldn't understand why it was rated 2 stars, because we've stayed in much worse 3 and 4 star hotels in Europe. Then the hotel operators told us that they listed themselves as 2 stars on purpose, because they want to be the very best 2 star hotel instead of a meodicre 3 star hotel. They succeeded. We'll definitely stay here again. The only negative is that you have to climb a flight of stairs prior to reaching an elevator that will take you to the hotel. This wasn't a problem for us, but it could be if you have a lot of bags, children, etc.

This was our favorite hotel of our recent European Holiday. The rooms and public spaces were spacious and charming. The ensuite bath was roomy by European tourist-class hotel standards. The staff, the owners themselves in most cases, could not have been more gracious or helpful. Our every wish, from a restaurant recommendation, a location for a scooter rental, a diet coke with ice at 1:00 AM, were all fulfilled with efficiency and charm. We received the best tip of our trip, when it was suggested that we visit the David statue on the one night of the week that the gallery is open in the evening. In the evening, there were perhaps 30 people in the gallery, as opposed to during the day time when the line to get in stretched around the block. We felt like we had the statue almost to ourselves. The breakfast room was light and airy, and the included breakfast itself was very nice. There is a charming reading room that also has an internet terminal. The WIFI in the hotel actually works. Both the wired and the WIFI are accessed via the same reasonably priced passes that can be purchased at the desk. The hotel's location is outstanding. It is located on a narrow street just a five minute walk from the Ponte Vecchio, 10 minutes from the Ufitzi Gallery. The only negative thing about Hotel Allesandra is the 30 steps you must climb at the entry. My 72 year old mother, no fan of stairs, nonetheless proclaimed this her favorite hotel of our holiday. Mine too. I highly recommend Hotel Allesandra.

We were a bit cautious when we first arrived - having to press a button to open the door, having to climb two flights of stone steps, etc, but we were very pleasantly surprised on entering the hotel. Perfect location in the centre of town, and an very good price. Friendly and helpful staff. The rooms were huge and nicely decorated. Good hotel in ideal location with one severe drawback. We were not aware that the hotel entrance was three floors up with a claustrophobic lift starting at the first level. My partner dose not really like lifts and found this one of the worst. It was only uses once and the rest of the stay kept us fit.

A mediocre hotel but a convenient location. Poor access through small elevator that could only be reached after walking flight of stairs. Hotel staff not always at desk, pretty unhelpful.
