Always stay here when I am in Florence. The square in front of the hotel has been finally finished and is planted now with grass and flowers and looks beautiful. Great rooms, clean and while they're not huge I find them very nice. Peaceful. The square can be a little noisy some nights but the windows keep most of the noise out. The staff are excellent and respond quickly to all requests. Breakfast buffet is huge and plentiful. Very close to the Duomo and all the major sights are in easy walking distance. Small pool on the roof is ideal for cooling off in summer. Seats on the terrace where the pool is where you can seat and read or sunbathe. I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. Highly recommended

Excellent and warm reception, Nice rooms, wonderful sheets!, excellent breakfast, good location despite the neighborhood not so classy, you could be anywhere in Florence in a five minutes' walking. Wonderful Santa Maria Novella's views. Corridors a little bit noisy but overall, a good choice I would repeat'.

We had a suite, with two newly renovated bathrooms. The decor is modern, and the only complaint is that there were not enough drawers for unpacking clothes. Breakfast in the lovely Cloister restaurant was bountiful and excellent. Staff very helpful in recommending excellent restaurants in the area ( Da Giovanni on Via Moro; Buca Mario; Marino). Hotel is ideally situated, adjacent to Santa Maria Novella Basicilica and on the quiet piazza of that name. Couldn't be easier to go to the train station, which you are unaware of while staying at the Minerva. Right near the fashionable Via Tornabuoni, a short walk to the Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio. Internet access excellent (not always the case in Italy); two slowish computers available to guests for printing out ticket vouchers etc. ordered online while you are there.

The position of the hotel is excellent as was the decor and reception staff. Every request for help was completed with a smile. Our only complaint was the bathroom sink had not been properly cleaned and stayed that way the whole 3 days. A small issue compared to the excellent, friendly staff and great location. It was a fellow companions birthday and when we mentioned it they put a happy birthday voucher for 4 free drinks at the bar - a lovely gesture and a great stay!

I love this hotel. Fourth time staying there. Superb location, five minutes walk from the train station and five minutes to the Doumo. Close to just about everything. Grand buffet breakfast in the morning, tea/coffee making facilities in rooms. Excellent staff who are courteous and speak a variety of languages. Roof top terrace lovely for a swim or to sit and read or talk. Also free wireless internet, unlike a lot of hotels in Florence! I'll be back and could not recommend highly enough.

Only problem found was that the aircon would not go more than 22 degrees (reception told us it was automatically adjusted that way...). As the room was quite big, with high ceiling, it was pretty cold during the night, specially in mid December.

This is an outstanding hotel, well located in a very nice part of Florence. The hotel was full and we were offered a family suite along with a single who was traveling with us. It proved to be a great value to us but not to our single traveler who had to sleep on a pull out bed. She was charged the same rate as the 2 of us (though we did not find this out untill after we left). She should have been given a reduced rate.

The staff were excellent & v helpful, faultless. We had one problem on the first 2 nights which was noise from the room above, we could hear everey footstep so got woken up befopre 7am which was awful for us. Spoke to Martin and he offered to help. We also asked to move to a room with terrace as we have a baby so wanted to be able to sit outside without leaving room. We were moved to a lovely room for our last night. Breakfast could be better, pastries & friut juices poor but enough to eat. More carpets on floors would be helpful, otherwise, lovely.

Rooms facing the Piazza are very noisy but you have a beautiful view. AC is not up to standard and you therefore have to open the windows during summer. The Piazza is very popular and you have all sorts of people hanging out in the piazza, which makes the room even more noisy. It is something you have to put up with unless they improve the AC. The swimming pool is a super plus bonus in summer and it is very private with a stunning view. However I will definitely recommend this hotel, within walking distance of most historical places and close to Trattoria's which serves lovely food.

We loved this hotel! We stayed for only 2 nights, but had a great experience. At first, they did not have a non-smoking room available, but they found one for us and it was a beautiful room! Spacious, great A.C., great view, and great bathroom. They had a mini refridgerator in the room as well. I would definitely stay again. The pool at the rooftop was great. Also all of the staff were very friendly. Great location as well, right by the train station and walking distance to everything.

Decent location to access the city on foot. Parking is 28 Euro's a night. Beware if you own a 'luxury' model car or SUV... (there is a select list of makes and models at reception) - you will be charged 40 Euro to have your car parked overnight. I could get no satisfactory explanation why it should cost more for me to park my sports car than for my friend to park his Ford in the same garage. Great breakfast choices. High end evening meals.

No surprise with this beautiful hotel ideally located in front of Santa Maria Novella church and close to the main railway station. I knew going in that there was construction going on with the church, and it did not affect our stay at all. The piazza is now also under construction. Our room, 423, was lovely and just as pictured on the website. It was a junior suite overlooking the church cloister. The room was big enough, with a sitting area with a TV in both the bedroom and sitting areas. The decor was very calming, with golds and white, a small couch and side chair, and a desk. My husband does not go for the ornate decoration seen in some hotels, so he was pleased with the simple, but elegant decor here. There were two sets of French doors opening to a balcony, but it was quite small and not even deep enough for a chair. However, it was very nice to have such large windows with views of the church next door and the hills beyond. The air conditioning worked well and was quite welcome after walking all day in town during humid days. The bed was a very comfortable king (two twins pushed together) and the room was quiet when the windows were closed. The church bells rang about 7 am. The rooftop terrace was lovely with potted trees, tables and chairs, and a small pool. The pool closes on October 1, so we could not use it. The breakfast buffet offered plenty of choice, including some hot dishes such as scrambled eggs and bacon. Cappucino was served on request. I emailed the hotel in advance to book our museum reservations. I think we paid about 3 euros for a service charge. It was nice having that set up and paid for in advance and we were able to get the morning slots we requested. Another nice thing was the complementary internet access. They had two terminals off the lobby, but one computer was out of order while we were there, and the other one was in use nearly the entire time we were there. I finally got on to check my email on our last day. It is an easy walk from the train station. Don't forget to visit the church and museum next door- beautiful frescoes!

We were a bit concerned about the Piazza at first but the groups are not threatening or noisy or disruptive, just using the Piazza as a meeting place. Our suite was very comfortable. The staff, from housekeeping to reception, were friendly, helpful and efficient. The breakfast buffet was the best we've seen in Europe. Although we did not see any of the other rooms, we were very impressed with our suite and the hotel overall.

Review by 2 families the Drakes & McFaddens: We were pleasantly surprised at the accommodations. This was a cute little boutique hotel right next to the Santa Maria Novella church. The rooms and bathroom were spacious. The staff were very helpful. They operated the hotel using standards you would find in a four star hotel in Europe. The only disappointment was the restaurant referred to us by Marzia at the front desk. We were two couples with little children (total six folks) and I asked for an affordable, family friendly restaurant that was close by. She sent us to Ristorante Buca Mario and we wound up spending almost E200 and we didn't have anything to drink other than two bottles of water (no wine) with our food!!! The food was extremely expensive and was okay quality wise. We were very disappointed at the price on the menu but worse, the service was extremely lacking. All other restaurants in Italy gave us great service because we had the kids and they made sure the little bambinos were fed quickly. Not so here. After we complained to the owner, he did speed up the food but he didn't offer any concessions (such as a discount on the food or anything). Marzia, our hotel contact, was horrified when she heard how much we spent and even more so when she heard about the service. Restaurant review by the Drakes: We ate at the Ristorante La Spada which is only a couple of blocks from the hotel. They specialize in roasted food. We ate 3 course meal,bread,1 bottle water, under 35 euros. They except credit cards. Food was delicious! large servings. Service was excellent! Restuarant review by the McFaddens: We ate dinner at the acclaimed Il Latini. Recommendation from Rachel Ray on her show "40 Dollars a Day". Food was delicious, service was great! 2 adults 1 child ate a 4 course meal with 1 bottled water 4 less than E50 ( don't accept credit cards). We would recommend to Il Latini to everyone. It is family run and a must have experience for Flor

This time was the third that I utilized this accomodation. When we arrived and maked a check-in I received an impression that the receptionists might be blunt and rough. Our room, a junior suite was so smaller than I expected. I booked also a single room for my sister, which was also very small. I rated that relationship between quality and price is not so good even taking into consideration that the property exists nearby the centre of great Florence. We utilized their restaurant and was enjoying Tuscun cuisine. But the women of the italian family that sat next to us was so offended and blamed a waitress for their some failure. The atmosphere of the restaurant was uneasy. Although the impression about this accomodation was obviously worse than one of the first visit, when I checked out, the attitude of the receptionist was so friendly and candid. I felt vaguely that it might be italian way.

The Grand Hotel Minerva is without a doubt one of the best hotels in Florence. We have stayed in many hotels in Italy and this hotel is by far our favorite hotel. The rooms are great, quiet, and the breakfast is tops. The location is perfect for walking to everything. There is one young man at the front desk that is exceptional. I had just stayed at Hotel Minerva in Rome (great hotel, read my review) and expected something similar, but should have known better because Minerva in Florence is a much better price. The truth is, for the price you pay, Minerva in Florence is a pretty good deal. Florence in general is very expensive, and this hotel offers good value. The Piazza it occupies (translated to the "New St. Mary Square") has fallen a bit into dissary. OUtside it is a popular place for drinking at night by some youths and local immigrant workers. Empty bottles around in the morning, every morning. The pigeons are a nice diversion for kids. But if you expecting flowers in the square (like in post cards) dont count on it. The city is apprently considering various ways of fixing up the square but have not yet decided on anything yet. It is open and well patrolled, so we never felt unsafe, even at 1AM strolling around, but it is something to consider. The Church in the square in magnificent, and an important part of historical significance of local artists (like Michalangelo). The good news is that, you walk one block away from the square and you are in in a very, very high end area of Florence. 2-3 blocks in the Piazza Republica, and one block is Piazza Signoria. The roof pool and terrace is very nice and offers a great view of the city. The restaurant in the hotel on bottom floor is good, but there are so many more with better views that it makes no sense to eat there. Staff are attentive and nice. All in all, for the price, not a bad choice.

The biggest disappointment was to have a park / square full of drunks right in front of the hotel every night !!!

The Minerva hotel is a good hotel : we taked a very nice suite. The thing we didn't understand is a mistake : when we left the hotel and were going to pay the room the personal had surestimated own consommations in the bar... We certifated the truth and pay the hotel but at the end the personnal didn't say goodbye ! I think when you pay a suite for more 500 € for two night you can have a better welcoming...

Great hotel and wonderful location. After my stay I've concluded that a rooftop pool is an absolute must in the summer. Only downside was the food served at the pool which was expensive and inedible. Bar drinks were fab though!!!!! Perfect hotel for summer visit.

Hotel room was a bit smaller than expected considering its rating. Best breakfast of 6 hotels throughout Italy, including fresh squeezed OJ.

These were wonderful accomodations. The location was convenient. As per a recommendation from a friend we asked for a room overlooking the basilica courtyard. They obliged with onlay a minimal change in fee. It was a beautiful view by day and night. I would highly recommend this hotel. The front desk could have been a little more accomodationg to help out with touring questions, etc.

The rate is too high for the room and services we've got. Everything was OK at Minerva but nothing was excellent. The hotel staff was also OK but not willing to help. We would look for another hotel the next time we go to Florence.

We stayed in 2 rooms at 2 different times, both were OK, but there were problems as well. The first was on an inner courtyard where the drycleaning shop vented and we had trouble with fumes in our room when the plant was in operation. The second room, on the main courtyard overlooking the dining room was nicer, but a loud party in the courtyard nextdoor made sleep problematic. The staff was very helpful and acknowledged the problems, but we felt this shouldn't have been an issue if they had had the air conditioning system working (it was during the transition from spring/cool to summer/warm), so unless we wanted to suffocate it was essential that we had our window open. All in all it didn't seriously detract from our enjoyment at Minerva.

Excellent. At first, I planned to stay 3 nights . But I was very comfortable in this hotel and Florence, so I extended to stay more 3 nights(totally 6 nights as same price). Every person was friendly but not superfluous, and they completely cleaned the room every day. Weakness is that:- - it is not bad hot water running but not fully - no high-speed internet in the room But I recommend to stay this hotel.

The room offered was the Presidential Suite. Fantastic. The hotel staff was charming. Location is fine. The hotel seems well suited for business meetings and conventions. It does not have an intimate, personal or warm feeling. The breakfast offered had something for everyone and anyone. Very good.

This is an excellent hotel. I have no hesitation in recommending. It's close to the train station and the centre of the city, It's very modern, clean and has a wonderful roof top swimming pool with great views of Florence. This would be a superior 4 star hotel compared to other 4 stars in Florence.

The Grand Hotel Minerva in Florence is really a good place to stay. It has a good location not only because of the proximity of the train station, but actually most of the main shops, restaurants and sights (monuments and bridges) are within walking distance. The hotel has a good service; although we encountered two equipment failures (electricity and elevator), they were remedied immediately. The rooftop swimming pool is small but nice and panoramic. Overall we do recommend this hotel for Florence visitors.

My family enjoyed our stay at the Minerva immensely. The staff was very professional, helpful and friendly. The family suite was very comfort for the four of us. The hotel's location near the train station was good for us. I would definitely recommend the Minerva!

We found the Hotel Minerva to be an excellent place to stay. The staff were very polite, and helpful. We had a deluxe room and it was as quoted: spacious and clean. It was exactly the room the hotel told us we'd have. The only problem is the piazza in front of the hotel as it was ahuge gathering place with lots of undesirable type people hanging out there at night. Some nights the police were there.
